In Hindu mythology, Brahma (God the Creator) rides upon a swan -- the symbol of spiritual discrimination. The Indian ecclesiastic title of "Paramahansa" means "highest swan" and indicates the greatest level of self-mastery possible. Only very rarely is the mantle bestowed by a true God-realized guru to a qualified disciple, one who has similarly attained this ultimate grace of soul freedom.
