Interview with Bob Woods
December, 1997
Tallahassee Tiger Sharks

Hockey Stick -- Don't get CHECKED!

Bob woods with Amber

By Amber Grow

1) How do you guys know when to switch out?

Well, either when the coach tells us or [when] we get tired, we switch out. We usually stay in 50 to 60 seconds.

Is there a signal or something?

Nope, no signal.

2) How long do you plan on playing hockey? What do you plan on doing when your hockey career ends?

Well, I plan on playing hockey for a couple of years longer, but you never know. I might get injured really bad and, might have to quit playing hockey. But, when it's all over, I want to go into I coaching a little bit, you know, spend some time with the wife and kids.

3) Do you carry anything around for good luck? Why or why not?

No, I don't carry anything around for good luck. Maybe wear the same clothes or socks or something, but I don't carry any good luck charms.

4) How and when did you first get interested in hockey?

Well, I'm from Canada and hockey is a big thing there, so I guess that's how. I got into it when I was about 5 or 6.

5) In your leisure time, what do you enjoy doing?

Well, I have a wife and two children, so I like to spend time with them, have a little fun. You know, I like to go down to the golf course sometimes and play golf.

6) Besides hockey, what is your favorite sport and why?

I played a lot of I baseball, too, when I was growing up. You (know you can't do it professionally 'cause the season is a lot colder up there and it is hard to play all year round. But, that's a sport I really enjoy playing.

7) When you win a game, what do you do to celebrate?

Well, you know, we like to get together and pat each other on the back. When I we win the game I like to go around and shake everybody's hand and tell them "good game".

8) Do you have a favorite NHL player?

Well, Bobby (Orr), he's retired now, but he always was my favorite. There are quite a few players I like, but he was always my favorite.

9) Is there anything you dislike about hockey and why?

I guess the travel is tough. It's just the moving and stuff like that you know, especially when you have a wife and kids. We ride the buses a lot, practicing and practicing, and the other rinks are so far away.

10) Who would you say has the best rink in the league? Why?

Um, there's a lot of good rinks you know, but just to be safe, I'll go with Tallahassee because it's our home rink and we got a lot of good fans and we really have a lot of fun playing here. So, I have to say Tallahassee.

11) How does the crowd effect the way you play?

Well, it's a big boost when you get five or six thousand people cheering for you like they were here tonight (Thursday, November 20). So just to hear them and the support that they give you, you know, helps out a lot.

12) Do you have any comments?

I'd just like to say that I'm glad to be here and that I love it here. I like all the nice people and fans. I'd like to say thanks to the fans for supporting us and I just really enjoy being here!

My interview with Bob Woods went great! I would just like to say that the T -Sharks have started a wonderful season.

GOOD LUCK TIGER SHARKS!
