Quisiera agradecerles por su participación en la novena (17 – 25 marzo) Además de las oraciones que hicimos en las misas, muchos rezaron la novena individualmente, con familiares o en la escuela parroquial. Mientras la intención original fue para los problemas económicos de la parroquia y familias que tienen dificultades financieras, eventos mayores nos abrumaron. Seguimos rezando insistentemente por una resolución rápida a la guerra en Irak, por nuestros soldados y por niños, ancianos, enfermos que son los más vulnerables.

En cuanto a la intención original de la novena hay indicaciones que Dios nos escucha. Además de las primeras y segundas colectas del domingo pasado, una feligresa donó $1,500 para la reducción de la deuda. También los planes para la subasta parroquia están avanzando bien. Los organizadores están trabajando duro y han recibido unas 700 cosas para las subastas del 5 y 12 de abril. Favor de rezar por el éxito de las subastas porque es vital para alcanzar las necesidades de nuestra escuela y parroquia.

Estoy contento que hay también otros esfuerzos para generar ingresos para la parroquia. Por ejemplo este domingo, nueve grupos de la comunidad hispana van a vender comida, etc. Tenemos que trabajar juntos para edificar una parroquia viable.

Mientras trabajamos para enfrentar nuestras necesidades económicas, no podemos olvidarnos de otros en el mundo. Este domingo nuestra segunda colecta es para Llamado de los Obispos de EE.UU. para el Exterior (American Bishops Overseas Appeal) que apoya Catholic Relief Services y otras agencias. En mi homilía del domingo pasado mencioné que CRS esta trabajando con la Iglesia Católica de Irak para proveer comida, agua potable, medicinas y entrenamiento vocacional. Favor de usar el sobre en su paquete o caja de arroz (Rice Bowl) para su contribución a esta obra importante.

I want to thank you for your participation in the parish novena (March 17-25). Besides the special prayers which we said in our Masses, many others made the novena individually, with family members or at our parish school. While the original intention was for parish financial problems and for families who are facing economic difficulties, bigger events overtook us. We continue to pray ardently for a speedy resolution to the war in Iraq, for our own soldiers and for children, elderly, infirm who are most vulnerable.

Regarding the original intention of the novena, there are some signs that God hears and answers our prayers. In addition to the sacrificial giving and two-bit collections last Sunday, a parishioner donated $1,500 for debt reduction. Also the plans for the parish auction are going well. The organizers have been working very hard and have received over seven hundred items for the silent auction (Family Night, April 5) and the Live Auction on April 12. Please pray for the success of the auction, as it is vital to meeting the needs of our school and parish.

I am encouraged by other efforts to generate income for the parish. For example, this Sunday, nine different groups from our Hispanic community will be selling food and other items. We must work together to build a viable parish.

While we work to address our own financial needs, we cannot forget others in our world. This Sunday our second collection is for the American Bishops Overseas Appeal which supports Catholic Relief Services and other agencies. As I mentioned in last Sunday’s homily, CRS is working closely with the Catholic Church in Iraq to provide supplemental feeding, potable water, medicines, as well as vocational training. Please use the envelope in your packet or your Rice Bowl to make your contribution to this important work.
