Why Ascension?

Have you ever seen a kid let go of the string tied to a helium balloon, and then you watched the balloon go up into the clear blue sky until you could not see it anymore?

Better yet, did you ever see a NASA rocket blast off with massive fiery splendor and a deafening noise from the launching pad, then slowly rise higher and higher until it was out of sight?

The ascension of Christ Jesus was of a quiet type similar to the balloon.

It was not unusual for Christ to be so buoyant. Remember the Scriptural record of Him walking on the sea during a lakestorm (Matthew 14:25-26, Mark 6:48-49, John 6:19). Keep in mind that that levitational-like water-walk floatation occurred before His resurrection, as did His lightning-bright transfiguration (Matthew 17:2 and Mark 9:2). Saint Peter did not convey the details of his own Christ-commanded divinely-empowered temporary-but-finally-faltering water-walk (Matthew 14:29), and it is too bad we can not ask him how it felt.

Be that as it was, why did Christ Jesus ascend? What if He had not ascended? He had previously mentioned that if He left, the Holy-Spirit Comforter would come and live within His believers. But did the Lord have to leave to enable the Spirit to come and stay? Was not the Spirit already present - here and there, now and then? Consider the following Bible verses and the plainly-understandable chronological order of their occurrences:

John 1:33 = I myself did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'
John 14:26 = But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
John 20:22 = And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:5 = for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
Acts 1:8 = But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth."
Acts 2:4 = And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Had Jesus stayed around here on Earth with His glorified resurrected body - [which body apparently had no problem materializing into and out of our finite and measurable natural-physical-laws environment and thus perceivable and detectable to our natural-physical-laws five senses] it probably would have gotten quite complicated for Him to only appear to His believing disciples and their similarly-believing progenie/offspring frequently intermingling with hostile disbeliving worldly people around them. Moreover, it would have been quite scary for Him to suddently appear within a room in which His temporarily-succombing-to-occasional-temptations followers were briefly doing something quite naughty at the time - resulting in significant embarrassment to either or both the offenders and the Lord.

Suffice it to say that the Triune God had a [strange but acceptable?] Plan from the beginning up until now and beyond for his faltering human creatures. Him putting the Forbidden Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil into The Garden was His questionable choice to install an obviously-potential stumbling-block to (and against?) the free-willed totally-nude couple, upon which stumbling-block it was only a matter of time for them to screw up because of that. To compensate, God provided (or imposed, depending upon your point of view) a rectification procedure of Old-Testament bloody sacrifices involving penitence and The Ultimate Bloody Sacrifice on a New-Testament cross a.k.a. the Atonement-by-being-murdered Redeemer and Savior [Jesus] known as God's Son (involved with human belief in and acceptance of such). Thus it is not that bizarre for the Almighty to do another weird thing such as have a bodily ascension of that Son, reminiscent of Elijah being whisked up to heaven in a fiery chariot by fiery heavenly horses.

Anything else would have violated God's plan for us to now "walk by faith, not by sight" (II Corinthians 5:7) with Christ up and out of sight (but not out of mind) until His future descent back down to Earth as prophesied in predicted awesomely-Earth-shaking glory and power.

Thank God we have his [66-book] Holy Bible to enlighten us as to what the duce He has in mind pertaining to all this. With only phenomena of nature to observe and contemplate, which phenomena both we and our human-history-recalling ancestors were all born into, we would not have a clue about what is going on and what it is all about.
