Praise God that you've been freed from the legalistic environment you describe. God is so much more than legalities! He is Almighty Creator w/ a Personality. He loves His creation and promises that if we seek HIM & only Him w/ our whole heart, He will ear and He will deliver us into His good will. God Bless You! Shelby Hedrick p.s. I'm going to unschool my girls and your information has been appreciated!!

Hello Kath, I came to your site through your email via the TCS list. I have found it very informative, especially about unschooling and religion in the US. Also I thought your ADD article was great. The URL I entered above is our page on the Allsopps who re also into Hartmann's Hunter/Farmer distinction. There are ADD links there too and I'll add a link to your page. A great website generally. And it looks like you run a very healthy happy family as well! Best wishes to you! And God Bless! (this from an "un"-religious person)

I just finished looking at your page and it's great! I especially enjoyed the unschooling information, as I was homeschooled myself for a few years. I'm glad to know that there are now good Christian homeschooling sites that are non-fundamentalist. Keep u the good work!

Hey, ya'll got the bull by the horns out there in 'ol Mojave. Very handsome family--and homeschooled, yet! Wow, big job for the Mom and Daddy. I spent some weekends there in my youth (we lived in Los Angeles). Dad loved such places, and took his two so 's there to plink with the 22 and M-1 carbine, and to explore abandoned mine shafts, and search 'ol desert roadside western-style galleries/curiosities (this was, let's see... 40 years ago?!) I'll never forget my time there. But he always took us there i summer...man, are you kid'n? The warmth was beyond refreshing, but there was something so otherworldly and fascinating about the Mojave, especially as the sun dipped, and finally, as the STARS popped out in earnest, everywhere. And the deafening silenc --holy mackeral. Such silence. This is a place for introspection and for getting in tune with one's own being. A mystical place which I have powerful, very powerful memories of. I've lived in Massachusetts for most of my adult life, and I'm an older 1st-time parent, with a two-year old (the love of my life). We're planning to visit with my folks in L.A. next year. And we'll drive through Mojave, so my son can sense the vast exp nse of that brutal but painfully surreal and beautiful spot of earth. I enjoyed your site immensely. By the way, thanks Kathy, for your reply to AOL's Homeschooling Coffeebreak/"Glenn Doman Videotape will make you weep". This is Nick, the guy who initi ted that discussion. Your thoughts were memorable.

I absolutely love your website!! I loved the article about ADD. I have a son with this "disorder" and you described him to the letter. He IS a HUNTER! It gave me a lot of comfort and understanding. It also gave me some insight in the best ways for him to earn. Thank you!

I'm sending your page to a friend who was sure I was nuts. "How can Catholics unschool?" she said in relation to what I'm doing. Now she knows, I'm not the only one! Could I use your work on unschooling for our assoc.'s newsletter? Great site!

I am very interested in the homesteading "philosophy". I have several things holding me back at this point, job, bills, boy, etc., you know what I mean. Yet I am still only 20 and hope to be at one with my mother before I am 23, that's my goal at least. I am reaching the point in my life of the female wishing state, children, home life, etc. but I need to get away from the city first. Maybe I just need some encouragement, I guess that's why I am visiting these sites. I have my real estate liscense, and now it is possible for me to devote myself to something more important to me and my being but have not quite had the courage to make the adjustment yet. I would favor living within a community to start out; beings because of the montary situation. So if ou guys can help me at all, please, I know I do not belong in my society, I need to be raising children and sowing the grains of the earch and need to meet people with similar feelings, especially those who have beaten what I am now experiencing. Any mot vation at all would be appreciated. Love to you all and peace to you, very excited to hear back. Thank for your time and love.

Hi, Just surfing around looking for information on the high desert habitat and ran across your site. I am a third grade teacher developing an integrated (science based)unit for learning about the plants/animals/insects/birds/etc. that inhabit our area. Our class is in the foothills/high desert of Wyoming. I enjoyed reading your philosophy and outlook on ducation. I feel much the same way, but am in a position of trying to extend it beyond the family structure. Your children are fortunate. If any of you would like to write to our class we would enjoy sharing information about the area and the creatures that live here. Sincerely, Teresa N. johnbn@trib.com

Kathy: I really enjoyed this site. Love the desert and wildlife. We are in Corona, CA and although we are in the "Suburbs", we still get lots of beautiful birds and the occasional skunk, squirrel or mouse. So much of our unschooling is outside. Isn't t lovely to be able to ENJOY life?

Thank you for the wonderful information about unschooling. I have been wondering how to do it. I didn't want the children to think that my allowing them do what they enjoyed meant playing Nintendo and watching TV all day. I have some new insight now int going about this.

Thank you for this wonderful site. We moved to 5 1/2 acres 9 months ago so we could have this kind of life too. Even after 3 years of unschooling...the kids flourished even more being able to be outside & freely (without watching neighbors) explore thei new world.
