The player in "the world", a MMPORPG, who can't log out. In the real world he is a she in a coma with her mind directly linked to the world. Tsukasa in the game is a wavemaster. At first Tsukasa just wants to be alone and not go into parties or to fight. He is a loner until he meets Subaru, Mimiru and others. Tsukasa rarley ever fights. He is trapped in the world so he can feel the pain of fighting since he isn't at a terminal. On the first episode of .hack//sign Tsukasa meets Mimiru and gets a guardian. This guardian is very powerful and comes out when Tsukasa gets in a fight. When the guardian attacks he kills the character player in the world and deals real damage to the person at the computer terminal. Most of the time the damage of the attack is a headache or tempoary memory loss. But sometimes the guardian can put people in a coma. Tsukasa can warp to his own secret place with Aura lying on a bed and a teddy bear. Along with the illegal cat player character named Maha. Tsukasa is trapped in the game until he can log out, but Maha and Morganna, an evil omni-present being in the world, want Tsukasa never to log out or else Tsukasa would awaken Aura.
