Kathryn Fleming, the daughter of an Assumption veternarian, attended calls with her father as a

young child. Her father, James, eventually bought young Kate one of his patients.

Stormy, a Quarter horse owned by Joyce Cooling, was perfect for the seven year old

Fleming. Cooling, also from Decatur, paired Fleming with her first dressage mount

Webel's Lacey Lady, as well as introducing her to Alice Martin.

Martin aided the Fleming family in finding Kate her current horse LA Baltic Mariner.

Aboard Mariner with less than a year together, Kate attended the Junior Champion-

ships in 1999 at Devon, Pennsylvania. In that year Kate also received her USDF Bronze

and Silver medals.

Fleming was a member of the Bronze winning Region 2 North American Young Rider Team

in 2001. Kate clinics with Gerhard Politz while she continues to study under the tutelage of

Alice Martin. Fleming clinics with Conrad Schumacher and Col. Christian Carde when able.

Fleming continues her responsibilities at StarWest while attending Illinois College, looking

toward a degree in Accounting and Business Administration.
