It's only a hobby!

14-5-05

I have, of course, updated the site since 2002, but I haven't put anything on this section because I haven't bothered telling the "news" section if it was just more car rambling.

But the site has had a long-overdue makeover... well, let's just say clear lamp clusters and more streamlined bumpers! I've realised that in the last four years or so the site has concentrated almost entirely on cars - and almost all readers have been interested in the cars - so I've changed the front page accordingly and deleted all the old stuff about computers and Fidonet, and old photos of friends. I couldn't quite bring myself to delete the stuff on my year abroad in Saint Dizier so that's still there, but now the site is basically a car website with a small French annexe... appropriate, given the amount of French cars.

As a point of curiousity, close reading of this site will tell you that in the eight years I've been driving, I've owned seven cars - and none of them less than twenty years old. Does anyone else think I need a new hobby?

2-10-02

Oh dear, it looks like I haven't done anything for a year! I've added some more rants, and lots more about the Arsemobile resto - just didn't mention it on here. Today I shifted the Saab links up to reflect the fact that I have one :-) Added a section on it the other day too. Photos to follow soon.

14-10-01

Yet more ramblings about cars. I got to know that ZX pretty well, having spent over an hour sitting in it waiting as a German group's coach had broken down. Who says the Germans get everything right! Shame I couldn't drive it a bit more, but it didn't have much petrol left.

7-10-01

More new ramblings in the cars section, including a little bit of Sally stuff.

12-9-01

Due to popular demand (demanding an end to my recent laziness on this site), some new material on Sally! Includes the collected Diaries of Sally - that she's written while she's been with me. For earlier ones, when she lived with the Hannam's, you'll have to join the Citroen Car Club and buy some back issues of the Citroenian.

19-8-01

Added "Rants" link to the main index, in an attempt to get some people reading the articles that I've written. They were a bit too well-hidden before.

28-5-01

Finally, some photos of the new car! Thanks to my dad for use of his digital camera, and driveway. And roofbox. And dinner.

23-5-01

Whoops! Just noticed that I never got round to putting up what I wrote about Dijon when I went there back in February. All done now. I don't even live in France any more (more's the pity).

22-5-01

More new stuff in the Cars section - three new articles, and hopefully more soon.

22-4-01

Lots of new stuff in the Cars section as I've just bought a Citroën GS.

8-4-01

Added some photos to the Cars section. Thanks Tim!

7-4-01

Mucked about with the intros in the Cars section. More photos promised very soon.

19-3-01

New picture of the Rover. Thanks Tim!

18-3-01

Mucked about with the Cars section a bit more.

Decided to get rid of the navigation bars at the top of the pages - it's too annoying to keep them up-to-date and working as I add new stuff. Sorry.

15-3-01

Completely reorganised the Cars section - the Rover's probably going to be laid up pending restoration while I get something else to actually drive (probably) so I thought some expansion of that section was in order. Also added something there on Mum's Peugeot - I probably do as many miles in that as I do in the Rover so it deserves a mention! Don't expect details, but I will at least put a photo up.

Changed the look of the Index a bit as well. I think I preferred it how it was though... I'll wait and see if I get used to it.

14-3-01

Organised the links in the cars section a bit - they were getting very confusing because I keep adding more!

I've been offered a cheap-but-good Citroen GS - shall I or shan't I? Only problem is, it's in Hereford and I'm in Haute-Marne...

12-3-01

Decided, finally, and for real, that the Arsemobile has to go. This leads me to think about a replacement - added some links under Cars which reflect my thoughts... see if you can guess what I end up with!

6-3-01

All your base are belong to us!!

5-3-01

Removed University of Kent at Canterbury and Students' Union links since I decided to drop my degree and go and be a bum instead.

Car acted weird.

4-3-01

Added some pictures (thanks for use of the scanner Dad!). Also, someone this week told me that my homepage actually had some content, which made me very proud. Car broke down again as well.

22-2-01

Can I have another whinge at Parcelforce please? Have a look at today's entry on the Rover page for details.

13-2-01

Fixed the Guestbook, which apparently hasn't worked since 1999. Whoops. Thanks to the kind folk on GuardianUnlimited Talk for pointing it out to me - I just assumed that no-one had signed the thing for two years!

11-2-01

Two new links. Worth the effort, wasn't it?

7-2-01

Added accents to the one page which is written in French, so it is actually legible now.

Added Xfm link.

4-2-01

Got rid of "Built with Amiga" logo on index.htm since I haven't worked on this site with an Amiga since about 1999, and added Yahoo headlines instead.

31-1-01

Added section on the Monte Carlo historic rally, which started in Reims on Saturday. What it doesn't say in the article is that I went straight from the rally to a party in someone's flat with a load of Irish people (of whom there are hundreds in Reims at the moment) and got really really trolleyed!

24-1-01

Added more to the Year Abroad section, after a lovely weekend in Paris. One piece of useful, factual information for you, despite saying I hadn't recorded any - the Hotel de Nevers can be reached on +33(0)1 47 00 56 18. They're dirt cheap, and extremely good value for money.

19-1-01

Added to the Year abroad page, after a trip to Bar-le-Duc this afternoon.

Stuck copyright notices everywhere - who knows, this stuff might even get published one day!

16-1-01

Added some new links, you lucky people.

7-1-01

Corrected my French (thanks to native-speaker Sandra Wundele). Added link to Will Masters' Drinkers' Journal.

14-12-00

Added some more stuff about my time here in France. Text only atm, but photos will follow soon!

13-12-00

Updated the music section to reflect the vast amount of CDs I buy, and to remove some old links that didn't work any more - specifically, Morcheeba and Pulp. I still don't have links for quite a lot of the bands, even some quite big ones. Let me know if you can help.

16-11-00

Removed Bromley Pageant of Motoring link because it's dead. Preserved here for you because who knows, they might use the same web address next year.

25-10-00

Okay, I know it's been a long time; I haven't had much access to decent computers! Finally added something - the section on my year abroad in France. I'm here on my year abroad, as part of my degree in French, working as an English assistant in a French school. Well, lycee.

22-5-00

Oops! Managed to delete most of the friends section by accident. Trying to re-do it from memory (and from the cache on my browser - you'd better be grateful...), so it'll probably be pretty limited for a while...

6-5-00

Added other links section. Some silly stuff in there.

28-4-00

Put the car up for sale. I'll miss it, but I can't afford to keep it :-( Bloody Geocities have changed their site again, so it takes even more clicks to get to editing my site.

10-3-00

Removed Red Cross link from the Index, as they don't seem to want me any more. Fixed some broken links.

5-3-00

Added Multimap link.

6-2-00

Added a navigation bar. I know it's a bit cheap-and-cheerful, but it works - and avoids using frames.

14-1-00

Happy New Year! Did a bit of work on the Amiga page, to reflect the fact that my 1200T's finally working, and to tidy up some links - and sadly remove a couple because they've closed down :-(

13-12-99

Added Steve's Third Thought.

6-12-99

Added IAM link.

Added "Links" links. Sounds dumb, but I know what I mean.

4-11-99

Some little tiny cosmetic changes...

26-10-99

At last! After nearly a year the Guestbook works exactly how I wanted it to all along! Not only that, but they've got rid of the popups even for browsers below version 4.0! Thank you Geocities, all is forgiven!

25-10-99

Geocities have buggered up the GeoGuide situation even more than they had before, in an attempt to reply to peoples' "feedback." This meant that no-one at all could sign my guestbook, so I've made some small changes to compensate. Now, still only people with version 4.0+ browsers can sign, but at least people with lower versions of their browsers will only get annoying popups on the index page. Sometime soon I'll add a navigation bar to every page so that you can get around without going to the main index, and therefore not get the popups at all! On the other hand, my webcounter seems to have started working again.

Added Steve's Second Thought, and jazzed up that page a (very) little.

19-10-99

Suddenly realised that only people with version 4.0+ browsers (which doesn't include me, incidentally) can sign my guestbook through the Adsquare and made some changes to index.html to make that clear. I am NOT amused and will be complaining to Geocities.

13-10-99

Return of the popups for people using older browsers, and new advertising stuff appearing on newer ones. Sorry guys; they're extremely irritating and there's nothing I can do about them. Email Geocities and complain, I'm going to. Oh, my webcounter seems to have died as well - don't believe that there have been 000 visitors since 1998!

10-10-99

Added some car-related links (the rallying ones) and some info on work done on the Rover.

3-10-99

Added photo (using Dad's new digital camera) of and information about the Rover (I've actually had it over a week now but never had time to update the site).

Put a Geoguide onto Steve's Thoughts - sorry if the popups have annoyed anyone in the meantime.

7-9-99

Sorry this update has taken so long - I've been home for the summer, and my A1200 has spent the summer dying so I've been unable to make any changes to the site. Anyway, I'm back at Uni now, and I've added Steve's First Thought after badgering him to give me something for my website for months. Was it worth it?

Major changes to the section on my tour of the country, since it's now sadly never going to happen. Not this year, anyway.

Changes to the computer section to reflect some new additions to the collection.

2-7-99

Changed the look of the index a bit, to make the guestbook more visible. Finally admitted to myself that I was never going to write anything about cycling and got rid of the link.

28-6-99

Tidied up the photos a bit.

26-6-99

Bloody hell! Why do Geocities have to keep changing their page? I don't care about their merger with Yahoo!

24-6-99

Added last photo to University friends page. Why don't the backdrops on the photo pages work under Netscape?

Added some more car links (Mark I VW Passats).

23-6-99

Had a bit of a moan at ParcelForce for throwing my Amiga 600 over a gate.

22-6-99

Failed a French Literature exam. Updated some broken links. Added some car links.

19-6-99

Removed superfluous World of Amiga Show link from the Amiga section and added my soon-to-be-delivered A600 to the collection.

Added Saint Etienne and Beth Orton to the music section.

Kinda bodged guestbook, but I wouldn't actually call it fixed. At least people can sign now.

Updated Student Union link after its move when Alethea closed down. I liked the old site better.

13-6-99

Added Jack link to music section.

9-6-99

Put projected route onto the map of Great Britain.

7-6-99

Put map of Great Britain up on the "tour" page. Added AMIGA_UK link.

6-6-99

Corrected some more mistakes. Tried and failed to figure out why the guestbook isn't working.

3-6-99

Added links to other peoples' sites on the photo pages. Corrected a couple of little mistakes. Had a hideous hangover. Why will Netscape still not display the backdrop on the photo pages?

1-6-99

Did a bit of an overhaul of the whole site, keeping links updated and so on, changed the look of the Index.htm. Removed reference to my old job (Wine Cellar cafe, if anyone's interested).

Updated computer pages to reflect new additions to and finds for my family of elderly computers.

Added some links to the friends' page.

Got rid of all the boring crap about Mum's car, and added my plans for a tour of the country in September.

Added text about scrolling down at the top of the index.htm entirely so that people will scroll down and sign my guestbook - it's embarassing that I've got even fewer entries than Westi!

Decided to add this news section. Exciting, isn't it?
