The Tides
"The Tides"

She sat quietly --
On the night bridge
Listening to the wind
Listening to the water
Lapping beneath her
Watching those dark --
Swirling waves dance
Covered with shadows
    Of jelly fish
Floating on the surface
Hundreds of them
They'd sparkle --
In the morning sun
Almost reflective
In transparent hues
Her eyes scanned --
The distant horizon
Where the island rose
Reminiscing over --
The look of that land
In a lightening storm
Remembering her youth
Swimming that distance
Daring those tides --
The tides never won --
       Back then.
