Fading
      "Fading"

    Someone called her
      The name fading
    Into redrock canyons
      Near the creek
     Footsteps crunching
       Over pine branches
     Someone steps there
   The sounds dissipating
     Beyond time's tide
   Until no one remembers
     What it sounded like
   Someone took a picture
     Kept it traveling
     Far away from her
   She tried to find them
       But never could
        The image is lost
      Someone wrote her
       Name upon pages
     Characters on paper
    All the way from Japan
        He's gone now
      Whatever happened
       To Alice's memories
         Time's a thief
       More poignant ----
    More callously cold ----
     Than death itself.
