Where Is Alice?
    Where Is Alice?

Oh, young Alice, where-ever have you gone? Into Sedona's backwoods, hiding and hiking. Fleeing the ridicule, over what you'd never do! Not with those local boys, not ever with the prizes all green and white in little plastic bags! Another barefooted child scraping feet away until they are nothing but prideful calluses. Building rock dams across the creek alongside La Cresha and Tiana, La Cresha and Tiana, "Tiana with love". Would your ghost be adding to that maze, a labyrinth, all ropes to climb and swings to swing upon. Fly into the morning as a rye kite. As a hopeful bird. Always playing soldiers, critters and soldiers. A wild animal. "Untouched and alive." "Untouched and alive." Unsullied and willful, getting ready for that blanket party. That promised blanket party as you smiled too much, as you dared say no, as they couldn't defile you, as they were defiled. Is it night once again for you. Where you sit before the great fire, your blue eyes glowing to green. A deep endless pool of forest green. A dancing mystery, "Untouched and alive" unfolded in times tides. Within that cabin. Did they call it Robin's Roost? The roosting place of all those non-conformers, non-conformers gathering together. Playing with flames, burning sly messages into planks of pine, planks of pine and mattresses too. Alice, La Cresha, Lisa, one other who's names faded into that space, and Tiana too. "Tiana with love," which remains unwritten as we thought it would. As we'd never admit to that frailty which would crumble us into mere dust, someday, "ashes to ashes and dust to dust." We just never knew it would come so soon. When Alice died there and thereafter we learned our lesson. Beauty cannot survive under the onslaughts forever. And "don’t look back, something may be gaining on you." And it was, and it did, quicker than licks given to defiant cheeks in Grandfather's home.
