Miss poppy is me. 2) Who are the children within this poem? This is in reference to my inner child through life phases. 3) What age is this distress expressed within this poem occurring within your life? During adulthood. 4) Why are the children referred to as, "nothings"? Due to personal adult experiences at that time where my inner being was not being respected or allowed any dignity. These experiences were adult issues between adults. If you remember that pop song that was popular about an eon ago -- it went something like….. How did it go? Hmm, Ok, "Turn your love around, I want the lady but I need the girl (something or another) inside… It was referring to the inner child of that woman. 5) Why are the children plural? Due to the collision of life phases. Meaning we are all different at different ages. When we grow up we are a collection of all those phases. The girl that learns to smile and tip her head or shake her curls a certain way to look cute when she's five still remembers that and holds onto it when she matures. The teen who charms her friends or others by certain expressions or form of poise likewise remembers this and carries it with her. In this we are a collection of all these attributes. We all have an inner child and the inner child is not one fixed age (if it were we'd be stuck and one-dimensional) -- in a sense the inner child, although only one singular being, is a mix of what's experienced through life. Anyway, severe adult problems can create a collision of shorts as nothing works to resolve them -- no phase behavior, quality (modified and matured to adult appropriateness), attribute, whatever stops the problem. This is the collision. The individual who experiences this is left trying to rescue all those precious life phases dignity as well as current dignity -- in one package. The past creates who we are when combined correctly with the diversity factors noted within resilience theory. Yet the past remains with us and we tend to dislike it (understatement) when this and every other portion of our being is in the process of being defiled. Even in adulthood, it is impossible for the person to accept being treated in such a negative manner as to cause a collision (into a brick wall) of every single moment (valuable, treasured or otherwise) of their life. It's a lot like an experience of having your life flash before your eyes but for an extended period of time. ** Questions by Gunther S. Vanludwick.
