X-Files Basement Office
FBI Headquarters
August 1998

"Mulder? It's me," Dana Scully inquired, as she peered into the basement office.

"I figured that out, Scully," Fox Mulder said, as he looked up from the stack of paperwork that they had to finish for AD Skinner as he watched Scully enter the basement office. "I'm glad that you're here."

Scully sat down on her chair. "When are you going to get me that desk, Mulder?"

"What desk?" Mulder asked, innocently. He looked at Scully's melancholy expression, and he knew something was bothering her. "What's wrong?"

"I'm fine."

"No, you're not."

"It's just that today's the anniversary of my abduction," Scully said, with a sigh. "I wish that it had never happened."

"I wish that it had never happened either," Mulder said. "I would have done anything to save you...if I could."

Scully drew a deep breath as she knew that Mulder was blaming himself again. "What happened to me wasn't your fault. You couldn't have prevented it."

"I know..."

"I know what you're thinking of. Everything that I'd gone through--my cancer, my ova being harvested, and finding Emily--was a result of my abduction. I'd thought of that so many times, Mulder..."

"I wish that it never happened, Scully..."

En Route to Scully's Apartment
Annapolis, MD
August 7, 1994

"Scully, I don't think that we're in Kansas anymore," Mulder said, as he glanced at Scully as they were sitting in their blue Ford Taurus. He gazed towards the road, and knew where they were headed. "I think that we're near where you used to live before you moved to Georgetown, Scully."

"You don't think that we actually," Scully said, as she trailed off. "It's not possible."

"May I remind you what you said in your senior thesis?"

"No," Scully said, with a sigh. All she cared about was why they were headed towards her old apartment. "There's got to be a reasonable explanation for this..." She saw her younger version getting out of her car. "Mulder, how should we handle this?"

"I have some ideas. We could talk to her."

"And scare her?"

"We're not going to scare her. We're gonna tell her everything so she can her abduction from happening."

"How are we going to do that?" Scully asked, skeptically. "We also need to talk to *your* younger self."

"I know. That's why you're going to talk to her. Alone," Mulder said. He parked the car, and turned off the engine. He was climbing out of the drivers' seat until he heard Scully's voice.

"Mulder?"

"Yes?"

"There's something on my mind..."

"What is it?"

"What happens if Duane Barry abducts her before I even have a chance to talk to her?"

"He won't. Remember that Kill Switch case?"

Scully nodded. "What about it?"

Mulder suddenly had a vision of what he wanted Scully to do. "I want to you to kick his ass, Scully. He deserves it after what he did to you." He paused. "I love your moves..."

"That's your fantasy, Mulder."

"Oh, come on, Scully. I'd seen you do that move before..."

Scully gave him a small smile, and laughed. "You enjoyed *that* move?" She paused. "You're not coming on to me, are you?"

"Yes, I am," Mulder said, with a smile. He loved it when Scully flirted with him, which was a rarity in itself. "I think that you should talk to her now... Meanwhile, I'll go find my younger self..." He paused again. He had no idea what to call him. "Scully, what should I call him? 'Fox' or 'Mulder'..."

Scully laughed. "I'm having the same problem with my younger self. Should I call her 'Scully' or 'Dana'..?"

"See you later, Scully," Mulder said, with hope that he'll see her again. He watched her nod and she smiled at him as she walked toward her old apartment to warn Young Scully.

Dana Scully's apartment
Annapolis, MD
August 7, 1994

Scully walked near her old apartment, and rang the bell. For a few seconds, she waited for her younger self to answer it. She could tell from her facial expression that she was startled to see her older self. "I understand that it's shocking to see your thesis coming true, but I need to warn you."

"Are you really from the future?" Young Scully's blue eyes were a mixture of disbelief and wonder. Although she'd written about it in her senior thesis, she never seen anything like this before. She led her older self into her apartment. Her older self was standing before, and she can find out all the answers to questions that Mulder and herself had been seeking out for quite sometime.

"Yes, I am," Scully said. She gave her younger self a warm, friendly smile. "I can't get over how you look. You look so young...so innocent. I wish that I was like that." She paused. "Of course, I don't have my hair like that anymore..."

"Why not?"

"I don't know," Scully said, with a shrug. "I guess that I wanted to look more sophisticated."

Although Young Scully had yet to tell Fox Mulder about how much she loved him, she could tell that her older self hadn't any opportunity. She knew how much she loves him. "To impress Mulder?"

"Not really, Dana. I need to give you a warning..."

Young Scully looked alarmed. "I know that Mulder has always done something crazy a few times... Is the warning about him?"

"No, Dana. It's about me. You see, in fifteen minutes from now, you're about to be abducted by Duane Barry. The abduction will change your life forever..."

With determination, Young Scully gave her older self a small smile. "I can handle him." She paused. "I know I can."

"I couldn't. He was too quick and powerful. Very dangerous for me to handle since he was a former FBI agent," Scully said, with a sigh. "I could take him now since I learned some...ah...new moves."

"Like what?"

"Karate. Kung fu. Mulder likes the new moves," Scully said, with a grin. "Anyway, at the time, I couldn't take him down like I really wanted to. The thing is that he had taken me to *them* and my ova was stolen from me. Not only that, I had an inoperable form of cancer."

"Oh my God," Young Scully said, with a groan. "If I change this, all of that would go away." She was beginning to understand a bit more clearly. "How would this affect your relationship with Fox Mulder?"

"I don't know."

"I know you want him..."

"What?"

"You want him. I know you do. You haven't made any progress with him?"

"Well, we almost kissed in the hallway at the hospital when I was being "treated" for cancer..."

"I'm sure that he wants you too. It sounds that way to me," Young Scully said, with a smile. She loved talking with her future older self, and she knew what she wanted to do. "I'll change the abduction if you promise me that you'll tell Mulder how much you love him."

"All right. It's a deal," Scully said. "Dana, I want you to go out of the apartment now."

"Why?"

Scully waved her hand towards the window. "Duane Barry broke the glass while I was on the phone to Mulder."

"I was just going to call him."

"Don't. Go see Mulder yourself, and tell him what you found in person," Scully said, with determination. She had an another thought. "Why don't tell him how you feel?"

"Ok. Where's Mulder?"

"He's at Casey's Bar."

Both Scully and Young Scully walked out of the apartment a few minutes later. She watched Young Scully locking her apartment, and they walked towards her car. "I have a question, Scully," Young Scully said. She paused. "Is that all right if I call you that?" Scully nodded. "Do I have a desk yet?"

"No," Scully said, with a sigh. "Mulder said that he'll get me one, but I think that's a big step for him to take in our relationship."

"I see. If I reveal my love to him, what will happen to us?"

"That's for the both of you to decide."

Casey's Bar
Washington DC
Same day, same time.

Mulder had a clear view on his younger self sitting at the bar, drinking a vodka. He remembered how exhausted he was after interrogating Duane Barry. *If I had been at my apartment, I would have saved Scully. I have to make sure that things would be different this time,* Mulder thought, as he sat down on the barstool beside his younger self. "Exhausting day?"

"Yes," Young Mulder said, with a sigh.

"We need to talk... I'm here because your partner's in serious jeopardy."

"Krycek?"

"No---your "real" partner, Dana Scully. Mulder, she needs you..."

"How did you know our names, especially mine?" Young Mulder asked, curious.

"Can we go outside to talk in private?" Mulder asked, as his younger self nodded. He sighed. "I don't want others to eavesdrop."

"I can't believe how paranoid you are," Young Mulder said, in awe.

Mulder shrugged. He wasn't sure what to say to that. "I hope that you'd never become as paranoid as I am." He paused. "This is a matter of life and death."

Young Mulder nodded, and he looked at Mulder. "You're me," he whispered. "Aren't you?" They walked outside near the garbage dumps, and he watched Mulder nod.

"Yes. I'm from the future," Mulder said, simply. He hoped that Young Mulder wouldn't ask him questions about Samantha for he had no clue about where she is.

No such luck.

"What happened to Samantha?" Young Mulder asked, as his hazel eyes widened with a burst of hope.

Mulder forgot how idealistic he was before Scully's abduction and before he learned the government's role in the conspiracy. He didn't want his younger self to ever lose that idealism. If he can help Scully to stop her abduction, maybe he wouldn't become so cynical? "I can't tell you, but yes, she's alive." He paused. "You've got to keep looking for the truth, but Scully's the one that you care about the most. Don't deny your feelings towards her..."

"What do you mean?"

"You know about Duane Barry, don't you?"

Young Mulder nodded as his hazel eyes narrowed at his older self. "What about him? What does he have to do with Scully?" He spoke in a demanding voice, and Mulder knew he had to tell him what happened to her.

"He abducted Scully to *them*," Mulder said, as he paused for a second. He wanted to make certain that his younger self knew the serious nature of what he was trying to say. Scully's future depended on it. "They gave her cancer when they took her ova..."

"I heard what aliens can do to a woman's female organs," Young Mulder said, as he nod with understanding. "Why would they do that to Scully?"

"I don't know. That doesn't matter to me, but Scully does. I want to stop her abduction from occurring. If I had known what I told you, I could've saved her from being abducted. I'd always blamed myself for this just like I'd blamed myself for Samantha's abduction," Mulder said, with a sigh. He watched his younger self nod with compassion.

It took a few seconds for Young Mulder to grasp the information that Mulder gave him, but he finally spoke. When he did, Mulder could tell that he had feelings for Scully even then. "I'll do anything for Scully."

"I know that you'll do anything to save her," Mulder said, with assurance. He paused. "I know how much you care about Scully."

"It's more than that, Fox. I know how much I---we---hate that name, but I think that I can call you that. Fox, it's more than caring. In fact, I love her."

"I love Scully too. I'd never stopped."

"Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"Would she say yes?"

Mulder looked at his idealistic, younger self with puzzlement. "What do you ask?"

"Scully," Young Mulder said, simply. "I think that I should finally tell her how much I love her." He paused. "Do you think that I should tell her?"

Mulder looked at Young Mulder, and he gave him a smile. "You know what I say. Just go with it." They walked back inside, and Mulder was startled to see Scully talking with her younger self. He nodded to Young Mulder, as he walked towards a booth while Mulder approached Scully. Mulder leaned in close to Scully, and he motioned her over to farther end of the bar. "How did it go?"

"You mean how much I loved to talk to my younger, skeptical self? Mulder, I can appeciate what *you* go through with me."

He laughed at Scully's comment. "I'm glad that you finally understand." He calmed down a bit, and then, looked at her seriously. "Did she?"

"Don't worry, Mulder. She understood. I told her that we had to find *you* so that Duane Barry couldn't find her." She paused. "I meant---"

"I know what you mean," Mulder said, as he gazed into Scully's blue eyes. He watched their younger selves sat beside each other at a booth. "Look, Scully."

Scully glanced at Young Scully and Young Mulder looking at each other. "It looks like we're changing the past."

Casey's Bar
Washington DC
Same time, same day

Young Scully walked to the bar, and found her partner. She knew some vital information regarding the chip from Duane Barry's stomach. "Mulder?"

"Scully, what are you doing here?"

Young Scully sat down beside him at the bar, and she gave Young Mulder a thoughtful look. "I had a feeling you'd be here." She remembered her conversation with her older self, and knew what she had to do. "Mulder, you wouldn't believe who I saw." She turned towards their older selves, and still had a hard time believing that this really occurred. "I had an interesting conversation that you would believe."

"Scully, I had an *interesting* conversation that *you* wouldn't believe," Young Mulder said, as he remembered his conversation with his older self. "It was about how you were abducted..."

"Abducted?" Young Scully inquired, skeptically. "My older self said the same thing." She paused. "What did your older self told you?"

"I should do everything in my power to save you."

"Really? My older self told me that I was experiment upon. My ova was being harvested and having an inoperable brain tumor... Nasopharyngeal mass." She paused. "They're trying to prevent that." She caught sight of their older selves at an another booth. "Mulder, look."

Young Mulder glanced behind him and he smiled softly. "You're right, Scully." He remembered something else what Mulder told him. "I take it that you can't stay at your apartment tonight."

"No. It's either staying at my Mom's or staying with you."

"I prefer that you stay with me," Young Mulder said, gently. He smiled at Young Scully, and he knew that he has enough courage to finally tell her how much she means to him.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

Meanwhile, Mulder and Scully watched their younger selves walk out of the bar. "Scully, do you think that we've got some sense into them?"

"Maybe. Maybe not," Scully said, as she glanced at them. "Wanna continue our stakeout?"

"Sure," Mulder replied. He paused. "Do you think that it'll change us?" He got up and he followed Scully to the door. They could smell the fresh, cool air.

Scully faced him. "In what way?" She smiled as she thought of another idea. "I just had a thought. Do you think that we're closer in the new timeline?"

"How closer?"

"I think that you have an idea," Scully said, as she opened the car door to climb into the passenger seat. She watched as Mulder sat in the driver's seat of their blue Ford Taurus.

"No, I don't."

"Come on, Mulder, I know you."

Mulder inwardly smiled at himself. Scully was right. He *did* have an idea of how close they're going to be. "I think that we have to get them to break down their walls."

"I agree," Scully said, with a sigh. She looked out of the window, and she noticed her younger self enter Young Mulder's apartment. "Mulder, look."

"This is going to be interesting."

Scully looked at her watch. "Pretty soon, the abduction took place."

"I know. Is it time?"

Scully nodded. "But the younger me hasn't come out yet. Therefore---"

"Therefore, the abduction never took place." Mulder paused. "This time, we warned our younger selves. They know something was going to happen to you. Our younger selves stopped it from happening."

"I know," Scully said, as she murmured. "Mulder?"

"Yes?" Mulder asked. "What are you talking about?" He paused. "Is it about us?"

"Yes, it is. You know that I had a talk with my younger self?"

Mulder nodded. "And?"

"She wanted me to tell you how much I want you. That's not an exact quote. Mulder, I'd always loved you. I still love you. I've been afraid to tell you, Mulder. I felt insecure when I saw Diana in the hallway with you, but I wanted to tell you how much you made me feel whole," Scully said, as she gazed into Mulder's hazel eyes.

Mulder smiled. "I'm glad that you've told me. I love you, Scully. Ever since you walked into my life, I've felt this way about you." He leaned towards her, and he felt her warm lips on his. With great passion, he kissed her. "I want you, Scully."

"And I want you."

Young Mulder's Apartment
Alexandria, VA
August 7, 1994
7:00 p.m.

Young Scully walked towards Young Mulder, and they sat together on the couch. She could feel his hand on her neck, caressing it. "That feels good, Mulder."

"I thought so," Young Mulder said, with a smile. He looked into her eyes. "Scully, what's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong. I just want to thank you..."

"For what?"

"For letting me to stay here," Young Scully said, with a sigh.

"You're welcome," Young Mulder said, with a smile. He remembered his conversation with his older self and he knew that he should tell Scully about how much he loves her. "Scully?"

"Yes?" Young Scully inquired, as she gazed into his hazel eyes. "What is it?"

"Scully, there's something that I've got to tell you. I've been scared..."

"Scared of what? Mulder?"

"I've been scared of losing you, Scully. When Skinner shut us down, I thought that I'd lost everything. The X-Files. The search for the truth. Samantha. The one thing that kept me constant was you."

Young Scully grasped his fingers with a firm, gentle squeeze to give him enough pressure to show him about how much she was touched by his words. "Mulder, you'll never lose me."

"I know. In fact, the reason why I hadn't let you call me Fox was because I didn't want to lose you. I build up these walls out of fear for what could happen to you."

"I'm not going anywhere," Young Scully said, reassuringly. "I hope you know that."

"Scully, I would like for you to call me Fox."

"Mul--Fox, I don't know what to say..."

Young Mulder placed his lips onto hers, and he kissed her passionately. "I want you, Dana."

Young Scully was startled by Young Mulder's revelation, and it took sometime to get her thoughts together. "I had always wanted you, Mul---"

"Fox," Young Mulder said, with a grin. He pulled her closer to him for an embrace. He kissed her again with passion, and he couldn't hold it any longer. He wanted her to be his forever. He decided to unbutton Scully's blouse, and she did the same.

She felt warm in his embrace, and she knew that she had his whole heart while he undressed her to make love for the first time. Their kisses were getting even more passionate, and she could him caressing her body. She could feel the warmth of his lips on her as she could feel the ejaculation of the sperm entering her vagina to inseminate her. "Mulder, we're not protected."

"I know," Young Mulder replied, his voice low with emotion. "I'm sure that I impregnated you."

"Mommy! Daddy!"

Scully turned over to her side, and waken to see a four year old girl in front of her. She noticed that the little girl had shoulder-length auburn hair and blue eyes. It was the same looks as her own. "Who're you?" she asked, in a hushed tone.

"Mommy, don't you remember me? I'm Dana. Dana Katherine Mulder."

Scully looked at her hands, and saw the engagement and wedding rings. She was---indeed---married to Fox Mulder. She saw Mulder laying next to her, and tapped him on the shoulder. She smiled as he started to wake. "Mulder?"

"What's wrong, Scully?" Mulder asked, as he was still tired from lack of sleep. He opened up his hazel eyes and it focused at Scully and a little girl.

"Mulder, we have a little girl. Her name is Dana Katherine Mulder," Scully said, with a smile. "We're married."

End of Story

NEXT UP: Changing the Past II
Will Mulder and Scully find out what happened in the new timeline?

Author's Notes:

This story is set *before* the X-Files movie in the current X-Files universe, but the office hadn't burned and they still have the X-Files. The End hadn't happened at all. Mulder and Scully will go back in time to Season 2. What they'll change will be a "new" universe... Got that? =)

For Season 2 Mulder and Scully, they will be known as "Young Mulder" and "Young Scully". Why? To avoid confusion with the current season Mulder and Scully who'll still be called "Mulder" and "Scully" through out the story.

I thought that this was an interesting concept to find out what would happen to Mulder and Scully if she was never abducted by Duane Barry. I enjoyed writing this story, and I hope that you had enjoyed reading it.
