EVERYTHING

Dana Scully was walking down the long hallway
towards Skinner's office. She wanted to
request a transfer to either back to Quantico
or to the San Diego Field Office where her
brothers reside.
She wanted to be faraway from Fox Mulder.
And she didn't care what he thought.
She was through with him.
*How did we come to this breaking point?* Scully
thought, as she opened the door to Skinner's
office. *Why did we let this happen?*
Kimberly looked up at the auburn haired woman
coming in. She noticed that Scully's were red
from crying and knew something happened by the
way she sat down. She pressed her intercom
button and said, "Sir, Agent Dana Scully's here
to see you."
Scully heard Skinner's voice. "Send her in."
"Assistant Director Skinner will see you now,"
Kimberly said, cheerfully.
Scully walked into Skinner's office and she
sat down on her chair. She didn't want to
glance at the empty chair--Mulder's
chair--beside her.
"What's this about, Agent Scully?" Skinner
asked as he looked up from a case file he
was reading.
Scully took a deep breath. "Sir, I would
like to request a transfer to either back
to Quantico or a field office in San Diego."
Skinner was puzzled. He looked at his agent
for reasons behind the transfer and didn't
understand why she wanted to leave the X-Files.
Most of all, why would she want to leave
Mulder?
"Are you sure you want this transfer, Scully?
Are you *really* sure?"
Scully nodded with a determined look in her
clear, blue eyes. She remembered the recent
fight about Diana Fowley she had with Mulder.
"I want to be faraway from him as much as
possible."
He sighed. "Please tell me what's wrong, Scully.
What happened to the two of you?"
That was the question she kept trying to answer
for the past few days. "I don't know, Sir. I
kept asking myself the same question. All I
know is this: we've been having some problems
dealing with each other. I think its better if
we...if I transfer. I don't care where. I can
go back to Quantico as a forensic instructor
or to a field office somewhere."
"Are you sure about this, Scully? I'm reluctant
to grant this request considering how Mulder
doesn't want to be separated from you."
"Sir, I *need* this transfer. I don't care what
*Mulder* thinks. He doesn't trust me anymore; he
trusts Diana Fowley more."
Normally Skinner would grant a transfer request,
but with Scully, he wasn't so sure if it's a good
idea. He wanted to find out more about their
problems, if any, before he would grant it. "Wait a few
days. I want you and Mulder to discuss your
problems before jumping into a rash decision on
your future."
Scully nodded. "All right, I'll wait for a few
days."
Skinner watched Scully leave his office and
then he asked his secretary to page Mulder.
* * *
Mulder walked into the office. "Sir, you
wanted to speak with me?"
Skinner nodded. He directed him to the chair.
"Sit down, Mulder. You're going to hear this
sooner or later..."
"Is it about Scully?" Mulder asked.
"She wants a transfer."
"I can't let her leave, Sir. She means
so much to me." He paused. "I love her."
"Have you ever told her this."
"Not in so many words, but I thought
she knew."
Skinner took a deep breath, and looked
at his young agent. "You have to
tell her, Mulder. Tell her everything."
He paused. "You're going to lose her
if you don't reveal your feelings."
"I'm afraid."
"Afraid of what?"
"I'm afraid of losing her."
"You're going to lose her if you don't
reveal your true feelings. She didn't
say this in so many words, but I have
this feeling Diana Fowley's the root
to the problem." He paused. "You have
to tell Scully how you feel."
"And if I don't?"
"You'll lose her."
With a determined look in his eyes, Mulder nodded
vigorously.
He knew what he had to do.
Fight for Scully.
* * *
Mulder walked into Scully's apartment using the
key she'd given him. As he walked towards her
living room, he called out her name a few times.
For a brief moment, Mulder thought something
might have happened to her. *Don't worry.*
"Scully!" Mulder called out as he walked near
her window. His mind flashed visions of Duane
Barry abducting Scully.
He blamed himself for her abduction that night.
It pained him, tremendously, that he couldn't
have helped her then.
He called out her name a few times.
No response. Mulder took out his cell phone out of
his jacket, and then punched her number. He let
it ring a few times, but it did nothing to assuage
his feelings of worry for her.
Mulder knew Scully wanted nothing from him, but he
wanted to make up for everything. He knew what he
needed to do: tell her how much he loves her. He
looked around at her apartment and saw a lot of
missed opportunities for them to be a couple.
He decided to stay at her apartment to wait for
her.
Mulder noticed a key turn, and watched Scully
open the door. "Scully, we need to talk."
Scully took off her black jacket, and put it in
her closet. "I think everything's been said, Mulder."
"No," Mulder whispered. "Not everything." He paused
for a second, and then continued. "I don't love Diana
Fowley, Scully. I used to like her in the past, but
she's not the one for me now."
"Then who?"
Mulder pulled her into a warm embrace. "Who do you
think? You're everything to me, Scully. It's you who
I love. Not Diana. Not Phoebe. Not Bambi. Not Karin.
It's always been you."
Scully gazed in Mulder's hazel eyes, and knew he
loved her. She thought she was in a dream, and then
going to face a terrible reality. For a few seconds,
she didn't say anything. "You love me? How?"
"I don't know *how* I had fallen in love with you,
Scully. It just happened," Mulder said as he brushed
a loose auburn hair from her face. "I don't want to
sound like a Hallmark greeting card, but I think I'd
fallen in love with you at first sight." He stroked her
her hair, gently, and then he whispered. "Scully?"
"Yes?"
"Do you love me?" Mulder asked gently.
Scully gave him a warm smile and nodded. "I'd
always loved you, Mulder. I wanted to tell you
but I was so afraid to let you know." She gave
a rueful sigh. "I thought you loved Diana, not
me."
"I told you - "
"I know," Scully said with assurance. She was
thinking of something else on her mind. Her
transfer request which was sitting on Skinner's
desk. "I guess I should tell Skinner to rip
up the transfer request."
"I guess so," Mulder said with a laugh. His
hazel eyes became serious as he wondered why
she wanted to leave him in the first place. "Why
were you gonna transfer, Scully?"
"I thought you wanted Diana to be your partner,
and you didn't want me. I decided to transfer
to Quantico or to some other field office."
"I didn't want you as my partner," Mulder
repeated. He couldn't believe she thought
that. "I told you how I feel."
"I know, but that's how I felt."
"Scully, you're my everything," Mulder
said with a sigh. "Please believe me."
"I do believe you," Scully said with a
smile. "Mulder?"
"Yeah?"
"Mulder, you're my everything."
End of Story
Author's Notes: There has been a trend of
stories where Scully or Mulder requests a
transfer to leave the other one over Diana
Fowley. Anyway, this story is my tribute
to the recent trend. It's angsty, shippy,
and I hope you'll like it.
Dedication: I would like to thank Joey,
Tanya, Lisa, Exfilia, and Rotem for their
support. You're all great!
Feedback: Only nice, constructive criticism
please. Flames would be used to line my cat,
Mischief's litter box and will laugh at your
expense. As Mulder said in "Arcadia": "Bring
it on!" Send to: eblair@sonic.net
