JUST SMILE
Written by: Erin M. Blair

I thought that my life was an utter mess because two women that I loved so much was gone from my life.

The first woman to leave me was my mother. She was apparently abducted by forces unknown. Forces unknown, Jeff? You know that your mother were abducted by aliens.

The second woman to leave me was my lover for three years, Melanie Alomar. She was transferred to the Salt Lake City Field Office. We were partners before she accepted that transfer. She was devastated to leave me, and I wished her well.

Now I have them back into my life.

My existence revolves around that old saying, "If you love her, set her free. If she returns to you, then its meant to be." They both returned to me.

My life has some meaning now. It's great to feel loved. I'm happy. I'm satisfied of how my life turned out to be.

As I watch the birds fly, I can see their beauty now. It's all because Melanie returned to me.

I'm in love with her. I want to shout to the world that I'm in love with Special Agent Melanie Rose Alomar. She's the best thing to ever happen to me.

I'm sitting on our bench, waiting for her. There's something that I have to ask her.

From a distance, I can see the sun beaming down on her auburn hair. Her red highlights sparkle like rubies.

"Jeff, what are you smiling about?" Melanie asked as she sat down beside me.

"I was just smiling about how happy I've been for the last few weeks."

Melanie smiled. "I know how that feels. I'm glad that I'm back here in D.C. with you."

"Like your job teaching forensic medicine at Quantico?"

"That too," she said softly, turning to face me. I wrapped my arms around her neck, slidding my hands through her thick auburn enjoying the soft sensual feel of it. "I love you."

"I love you too." I look into her warm blue eyes, and I know how much I love her. She makes me feel so alive. When I first saw her, I knew that she was the one for me.

I'm going to ask her to marry me. I reached into my coat pocket, and took out the diamond engagement ring. "Melanie?"

"Yes?

"Will you marry me?"

*There I said it!*
*Will she say yes?*

"Yes! I'll marry you!" Melanie exclaimed, as she excitedly kissed me. I put the ring on her finger, and watched how it sparkled against her creamy skin.

If I was happy before, I'm thrilled now!

Melanie said "yes" to my marriage proposal, and I'm now engaged to the most beautiful woman in my life.

I'm just smiling of how everything in my life seems to be perfect now.

End of Vignette

Author's Notes: This was a challenge from the Spenderfic Mailing List to write about a happy Jeffrey Spender. I hope you like it!

I thought that it'll be a good idea to have this story as a sequel to my first Spender story entitled "Spender's Surprise."
