R้al Andrews Yahoo Chat Transcript; October 12, 1998

TVGEN: Welcome everyone....We're here with General Hospital's Real Andrews, who plays Detective Taggert. Welcome, Real, thanks for joining us tonight.

Real Andrews: I just want to say hi to everybody, peace and God bless, good to be talking to you.

Faith1985: Where were you born?

Andrews: North Vancouver, BC, in Canada.

Faith1985: Are you married?

Andrews: No, negative.

Dawn_GHfan: What kind of jobs did you have before you became an actor?

Andrews: Pizza delivery boy was the last job I had, but it was nothing like the movie. I washed floors, I cleaned windows, I did whatever I had to do, basically, just like all of us.

Ccornel998: Hello, Real. What input, if any, do you have with your GH character — script? actions?

Andrews: I leave most of it up to the writers. We have an incredible writing team, headed by Bob Guza, and they are always amazing me with the scripts, and I really have no suggestions or complaints, I'm just happy with the material they give me.

Lakin83: What personality traits do you and your character share?

Andrews: Stubbornness, discipline, the brattiness of him...you know, the bald head!!

madtaz_98: Is this the first soap you've ever done? And how do you like working with the cast of GH?

Andrews: No, and it's a dream come true. I, too, was a GH fan from the age of 11. And we used to have GH parties every Friday night. And for me to be on a show with people I grew up with is a dream come true, like I said.

Krazyme2: Will there be a exciting storyline coming up for Taggert during November sweeps?

Andrews: Yes there is, and of course I'm not allowed to talk about it, but yes.

Ccornel998: What kind of responses did you get, if any, after the love scene with Vanitta (Dara)?

Andrews: Very hot, positive, a lot of date requests, some kissing, how do you say, some kissing requests — it was very positive!

greekspice98: Will Justis get in the way of Taggert and Dara's blooming romance?

Andrews: I'm going to kick his butt!!

lavenberry: I loved you in Soldiers of Fortune. Would you consider coming back to the show?

Andrews: I am very happy where I am right now, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Soldiers of Fortune was an incredible experience. I made great friends, Tim Abell and I are still very good friends, and Melinda. I have a lot of good memories from it, but it was time to move on, I guess. I don't make those decisions, whether I come or stay, I leave those decisions in the hands of the Big Guy upstairs, and he hasn't let me down yet, so I don't question it.

Krazyme2: Hi Real...do you maintain the official Real web site at http://www.realandrews.com, or does someone do it for you? Love all the great photos!!

Andrews: I do it with a friend of mine who is the computer expert, but I'm very hands-on. I am the person who goes into the unofficial web site and says "Hello" and "Thank you." I feel very close and dear and thankful to my fans. I never forget the importance of my fans. So I never want to lose touch with them, and it's just another way to keep in touch with them.

GHGuide: Real, I'm the Guide for General Hospital fans. How can I persuade you to chat in my room? I had tons of fun with Brad Maule...ask him!

Andrews: You can contact my publicist, Jerry Shandrew, and their number is 323-782-9677. And I'd love to do it, just set it up, no problem.

PSinSC: Any truth to a WILD rumor that a fan made off with more than your autograph in an L.A. hot spot?

Andrews: No comment. Next.

ghbuffyfan: Real, I think you are sooo hot — what does your tattoo mean?

Andrews: The one on my chest means "Run and be free, Java" — that's in memory of one of my dogs that was killed. The one on my forearm means "Focus, being disciplined, centered," the things I guide my life on. And the one on my left shoulder means "Health," and it's also my karate master's initials.

BarbieB_3717: You have a great physique. What do you do to stay in shape?

Andrews: Run, tai kwon do, boxing, weights, taebo, and just recently I've got into doing triathalons. We actually took first place this weekend in the relay division. I was on Team Powerbar — Terry Martin and Powerbar sponsors us, and Yamaha helps out with the clothing and stuff.

Faith1985: When you're walking down the street, do people recognize you as being on GH?

Andrews: All the time, every day.

miss_thang04: What do you plan to do after you're finished on GH?

Andrews: Whatever the Big Guy has planned for me. I just take it day by day.

Lakin83: Who would you most like to be involved in a storyline with that you don't get a chance to work with now?

Andrews: Anthony Geary, but I tend to get to work with everybody.

ghbuffyfan: Real, I loved the interaction with you and Maurice Benard — is there ever going to be any closure to their issues?

Andrews: We can only hope. It's in the hands of Bob Guza.

Norm93: You're the most down-to-earth character on GH. Was it difficult playing an Immortal on Highlander?

Andrews: No. Working with Adrian was another one of my dreams come true, and it was just like a hot knife in butter. It worked, it was fun, and Adrian made it easy.

Connie321: Will Real be doing any personal appearances?

Andrews: We are working on that, I want to get out more and see my fans face to face, so we are working on that.

SUGAR_BABE_19: What do you think about the direction your character is going?

Andrews: I like it a lot.

Arjin_Dax: I always said that Taggert and Felicia should've gotten together. Would you mind if Taggert and Felicia were together?

Andrews: Absolutely not. I think she's got the hottest legs in daytime, and she's a great actress to boot.

MORPHIN69: Hi, how are you? And who do you think is the sexiest in your show?

Andrews: Right now, that kind of question could get me in trouble! I can't pick favorites. Let's just say I have my own crushes.

litrayy: Are you ever going to stop harassing people, like Monica?

Andrews: Ha, ha, ha. I'm done with Monica. I like her now. Next, I'll harass whoever is breaking the law. She's got too much power and money. She's a tough one.

UNC_CJ: What is your most embarrassing moment?

Andrews: When I had a kissing scene with Vanitta, who plays Dara, and it went on a little longer than it should have...let's just say I forgot where I was.

ArmyGirl1481: What is it like working with Jonathan Jackson?

Andrews: He's incredibly talented, got a great soul and energy, and I just love being around him.

S_Leigh_Poet: What's the best movie or TV show you have ever done?

Andrews: The best TV show is easy, it's General Hospital, without a doubt. Movie, I'm blanking right now. Actually, one of my most favorite movies to do was a B horror movie I did years ago. It was called either Gnaw, or After The Food of the Gods, Part 2. And it's a really bad B movie, but I was killed by a three-foot rat, and I just love it, it cracks me up!

larile: Hi Real, did you have fun doing your thing on Highlander with Adrian and Stan?

Andrews: Had a blast.

greekspice98: I saw you a couple of months ago on Catwalk, when did you film that?

Andrews: Five or six years ago.

KrazyBruin: I don't know if you can answer this, but it seems as though Brenda's death isn't really concrete. Has it been left open so she can come back after her 90210 venture?

Andrews: That would make me a happy camper. I love Vanessa. But of course, that's not a question I can answer.

PSinSC: Does it ever bother you (or anybody writing GH, for that matter) that the cops are ineffective or on the edge of corrupt, and the criminals (mobsters, for example) are the heroes?

Andrews: Yes.

ghbuffyfan: Real, so you think minority characters are under-represented on soaps? Why?

Andrews: I do think they are under-represented. I am very fortunate to be part of a show that doesn't succumb to that. Wendy Riche and Bob Guza are very sensitive to all color, creed and race. And I say that from the bottom of my heart. So I'm very lucky, I don't have to deal with that on GH, as you can see from the writing.

vwtrend: Where did you get your first break?

Andrews: In Toronto, Canada, on a show called Night Heat. And Sunny was the producer, and he gave me my first big part. That was the beginning.

Connie321: Are we going to see you in any other roles?

Andrews: Once again, that's up to the Big Guy.

GHGuide: Real, do you surf the Internet very often? If you do, where do you go?

Andrews: I just surf and just find different places all the time.

larile: Do you consider yourself a romantic at heart?

Andrews: Yes.

Connie321: Real, what's you favorite vacation spot?

Andrews: Somewhere tropical and desolate.

TVGEN: Where have you been that fits that description?

Andrews: Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Hawaii.

Faith1985: Do you get a lot of fan mail?

Andrews: Yeah, but there is always room for more! I love getting mail.

girlfriend_53_98: You seem so mean and tough on the show, I was just wondering, how do you act in real life?

Andrews:I'm a big teddy bear! A big, bald teddy bear!

Emma_Peel_78: Could you tell us a virtue and a vice of yours?

Andrews: My biggest virtue is my focus and discipline. And vice would be my temper, my short temper...but I'm working on that.

Lakin83: Real, do you practice a particular religion?

Andrews: I'm Christian. Baptist.

greekspice98: What other acting projects have you done, other than GH and Soldiers of Fortune?

Andrews: Too many to list.

edschin: How many days/hours per week do you typically work, and how far in advance do you have the script and know your schedule?

Andrews: Anywhere from one to five days a week. Usually two weeks in advance with the scripts; some days, the morning of.

greekspice98: Why does Taggert have so many hang-ups????????

Andrews: 'Cause Bob Guza says so!

talkermom2: It seems that Taggert pursued Dara; now that she likes him, it seems as if he is rebuffing her — Why?

Andrews: His feeling were hurt when she asked him while they were in bed to spare Justice. He felt used.

talkermom2: How did it come about that you have no hair? I personally think it is incredibly sexy!

Andrews: Thank you! I shaved it for a role four years ago on a TV show called The Marshall, with Don Johnson. And I got a real positive response from it, and just never went back. And now I don't know if I could, even if I wanted to!

greekspice98: Will you or any other GH stars be making personal appearances in Toronto any time soon?

Andrews: I would love to. It really depends on the demand. If enough people request it, I will be there.

Ccornel998: I saw an article where you compared yourself to a zebra. What exactly is your ethnic mix?

Andrews: Well, I'm from Louisiana, African-American. I've got Canadian-Irish in me, some Indian. But I really don't like to think of myself as a mix of one sort or another, but just as one human being to another.

Nicolea_22: Real, what's the scariest thing you've ever been through?

Andrews: When I was a kid, dealing with death was very scary for me for many years. Then once I accepted God into my life, I didn't have that any more. That, next to flying, was my biggest fear. I don't fear much any more.

andreancarie: Do you have any advice for an aspiring actor/director living in middle-of-nowhere Texas?

Andrews: Yes. You have to dream it, you have to achieve it, and then remember it. I come from a very small place, and if I listened to all the people who told me I couldn't, who told you me I shouldn't, who told me "Don't do it," I wouldn't be here talking to you. I never lost sight of my dreams. I never accepted the word "can't." That was my thing. I went through life, I still do, with "There is no such word as 'can't' ." I erased it from my vocabulary. That's the best I can say.

nanckat: How do we send you fan mail?

Andrews: Care of General Hospital, at 4151 Prospect, Hollywood, CA 90027.

TVGEN: Real, thanks for joining us this evening.

Andrews: I just want to say, Thanks for all your support. I really do appreciate it. I look forward to hearing from you more in the future. Peace and God bless.
