The Island and Beyond

Chapter 2

'I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.'' He could barely get the words out. She had the most beautiful eyes.
''Who are you?'' Laura was in no way afraid of this man even though she knew he had to be a Cassadine and that meant that she should fear him as she did Stavros. But she could sense he was different, what was wrong with her? He didn't look like Stavros, he had piercing blue eyes and as he was staring back at her she could almost feel them clear to her soul! He also had a goatee which complemented his face.
''We….haven't met formally, I'm Stefan, your….husband's brother.'' What was wrong with him, he could barely concentrate. Why was this woman having such an effect on him, he had been a worldly man during his numerable years traveling around the globe but in the back of his mind he knew that no woman he had ever encountered had had this kind of effect on him, then again he couldn't remember one that was so beautiful as her. Her eyes were so trusting, her long blond hair flowing in the breeze, her….. what was he thinking, this was his brother's wife he was oggling. Was he mad??
'I didn't know Stavros' had another brother! I have been here six months, why have I not seen you?'' She couldn't help but be curious about this man, every thing in her told her that this man, Stefan and Stavros were not alike at all, how could she want to trust a man she barely knows???
''I just came back from a business trip, I was notified of Stavros and your marriage and came back as soon as I could but it appears I have missed the ceremony.'' He looked at the ring on her finger, it was a large diamond that glinted in the sun just like her eyes. Laura looked down at the ring on her finger wanting with all her might to throw it over the cliff but something held her back!
''I know why you are crying Laura, I know the circumstances under which you were brought.''
Laura could think of nothing to say so she turned back around to the ocean. She felt him sit beside her and all of a sudden he placed his hand over hers.
''If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask me!''
Laura looked up at him wanting to thank him for the consideration but the moment she looked up they locked eyes. Suddenly, his hand on top of hers felt hot, burning, she looked deeper into his eyes and saw a softness that she knew she could trust with all of her heart!
''Thank you…. Stefan.'' Suddenly the breeze began to pick up, at least that is what she thought it was and Laura began to shiver. Suddenly, by instinct Stefan took off his coat and placed it around her shoulders. It seemed so natural to him, to want to keep her warm and comfort her.
Suddenly Stefan wanted to go inside, she looked too beautiful with her hair in the breeze for his peace of mind!
''May I escort you inside Laura?''
''Yes…. Of course.'' He stood up and outstretched his hand to assist her. She took it and they began to walk toward the house.
''Lasha!!!'' this voice came from neither Stefan nor Laura but they both recognized it with crystal clear clarity, it was Stavros.
Without another word, Stavros cut between Laura and Stefan and took Laura by the hand and started stomping toward the house. As she followed Stavros, she looked back at Stefan and he looked back at her, in that moment both of them knew that something that dare not be spoken was beginning between them something that would change them both forever.
''Laura.'' said Stefan quietly to himself.
