The Island and Beyond

Chapter 5

(Laura making her way to the house in search of Stefan)

Where was he??? Laura had begun to walk toward the house from the pier after bidding Miranda good-bye. She had to find out why it was so necessary for Stefan to help her escape from Stavros. He had to be in house but what Laura was most concerned about was how she was going to approach Stefan regarding the topic. I mean, Laura had only know him for two days and yet she felt that he would be open with her and yet she felt an uneasyness whenever he looked at her, not from fear but from something far more dangerous!

Laura went into the house and was making her way up the stairs to Stefan's quarters when a hand pulled her arm into the library. It was Stefan of course.

"What.. what are you upto?? Why did you have to help Miranda?"

He knew that she would find out somehow, he knew she was smarter that Stavros thought. Smart and incredibly beautiful.

"I had to help her Laura, she has seen meetings between Stavros and his associates and heard things that she shouldn't have heard. You have to act as if nothing has gone on, Stavros will now if we aren't careful."

"All right Stefan, I trust your judgement." It was at this point in time that Laura and Stefan realized that Stefan was still holding Laura's arm. Laura looked down at his hand and Stefan realized that he was too close to her. She smelled of lilacs and Stefan felt something inside him losing control. Laura looked up into his eyes and felt like they would swallow up her very soul.

At that moment, Stefan could no longer control what was happening to his mind and actions. His mind and body only wanted to take her into his arms and kiss her passionately.

Laura couldn't have moved if she wanted too. Stefan's head started to descend toward hers and to her what should have been her horror, she closed her eyes in anticipation. His lips were no more than an inch from hers when a piercing sound reached them both.

"LASHA!" Laura's eyes snapped open and she realized what was about to happen and that Stavros was just outside the door. It took Stefan a little longer to realize the enormity of their current situation, reluctantly he let go of Laura's arm and she moved toward the door to intercept Stavros. But before she opened the door Laura knew she should say something, but as she turned to Stefan who had not moved from his spot, she knew now was not the time to discuss what had almost happened. With that Laura left the room to go to Stavros.

Stefan was now left standing all alone left only with his thoughts.

"Damn him, why did he have to come. Wait, what am I thinking, she is my brother's wife^.. but why does that not matter so much anymore, I can't stop what I feel. But I have to control it, don't I??

He then left the library to go to his quarters to contemplate the answer to his own question.
