The Concert Experience

The Concert Experience

On July 27th, I attended the Monkees concert at the Palace Theater in Cleveland, Ohio. The concert started at 7:30. I had seats in Row S, Center Section.

As I sat down, I began to wonder, will this show be as good as the one last year in Erie? I knew the answer was yes before the concert even began. All of a sudden, the lights dimmed and I heard "Here we come, walking down the street..." That was all the Monkee fans and I needed to send the place into an uproar of screams, cries, and cheers.

Then they appeared--Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Davy Jones. Micky was dressed in all white, Peter had on a Hawaiin print shirt, and Davy wore a metallic green top ( even though he changed about a thousand times ).

As the evening progressed, it got even better. They sang great songs from JUSTUS, including 'I Believe You,' 'You and I,' and 'Regional Girl.' They did many of the old hits, including 'Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow),' 'Last Train to Clarksville,' and 'I Wanna Be Free.' For their solos, Micky sang 'Since I Fell For You,' Peter sang 'Lucille,' and Davy sang 'Girl' to a little girl in the audience, and 'The Brady Bunch Theme' with people who were courageous enough to sing along.

The concert was complete with surprises as well. In the middle of the concert some star-struck girl screamed "I LOVE YOU DAVY!" He simply replied,"I love you, too." After Davy had done his solo, he accidentely took the microphone with him, so when it was Mickey's turn, he didn't have a mic. Mickey yelled for Davy to bring out the mic, and he came running out there with no shirt! It was hillarious. Also, Peter put a rose from a fan in his mouth, chewed it up, and then spit it back out.

At one point, Davy started to leave the stage and Micky shouted, "Hey where are you going?" Davy screamed from backstage, "I am going to the toilet!" He returned wearing an Elvis-type wig, complete with Elvis stretch pants to sing 'Valleri.'

Wow, what a night. This is one concert I will never forget.
