Intrigue & Passion-8

Brenda closed her eyes against the pain and hummed softly to herself. She knew all about the drugs they were giving her, knew what they were designed to do, and up till now she had been able to fight them. Her mind rebelled against the altering chemicals and remained intact, but slowly, ever so slowly she was losing her strength. She could feel bits and pieces of herself slipping away, could feel herself being turned into what they wanted her to be, the enemy.

She wanted to fight it. She had to fight it for her daughter, for Jax, but the hate was creeping up on her, corrupting her memories of her friends at the WSB. Darius knew what he was doing. He knew that enough of RX-2300 would weaken the mind and turn the subject into anything they wanted. Hell, if he wanted to he could make Brenda think she was a 5 year old girl, or an 80 year old woman, but no, he knew what buttons to push. He was going to turn Brenda into an assassin, and a ruthless one at that. He had already planted the seeds of hate that were beginning to germinate in her mind, that were beginning to tear her apart.

"Brenda, fight it Brenda. Don't let Darius win, turn it against him. Use his revenge as a weapon for your own. "

"F-fight it, I have to fight it…"

"Listen to me Brenda, you're ready for suggestions now, that's why the hate is building, but I won't let him turn you against us. You hate Darius. If you have a desire to kill anyone it's him. He's the reason you and Jax aren't together anymore, why my brother doesn't know his own daughter. He is the enemy Brenda. Remember that only my voice will have an impact on you. The only things you'll remember is that the WSB protects it's own, and Darius Roan is the enemy. Do you understand me Brenda? You are strong, and this weakening of your body and mind can be overthrown. Take the time Brenda, deep breaths, you have to fight, kick, and crawl your way out of here. "

Jerry held his breath and hoped he had managed to get through to Brenda in time. If he hadn't the entire WSB could go down. Darius and his men had left for the night after filling Brenda's mind with nonsense, but they didn't know what he knew about RX-2300, there was a certain point when all suggestions could be altered, and once altered there was no going back.

Johnny had been relieved when he had called, but for Brenda's sake he had neglected to tell Johnny what was being done to her. They would run tests when they got back, but until then, they didn't have to know.

"K-kick and c-crawl. "

Brenda's teeth were chattering.

"Darius wants to kill Jax honey. He wants to watch him die while eating a huge tub of buttered popcorn, and then he's going to come after you and Callie. You don't want that Brenda. You'll have to kill Darius. That's your goal, kill Darius so you can go back to Jax and your daughter. Promise me. "

He ran the damp cloth over her burning forehead.

"P-promise. Jerry? "

"Yeah sweetie. "

"T-thanks. "

"Don't mention it. "

Brenda's eyes shut as she smiled at Jerry. So much like Jax, but so very different too.

Jax walked down the hall fuming. Damn the WSB. What the hell was going on? He didn't know what to think anymore, who to trust. He was still reeling from what Johnny had told him. He and Brenda were still married. It just didn't make sense. None at all. Standing in before the door of the room where his daughter was Jax brought his emotions under control. The WSB loved using people, but he had never known to what extent. Sonny had been a pawn of theirs to separate he and Brenda. Apparently when she was in boarding school Brenda had done some work for them, and to get her back they had destroyed his life, and hers. It was pissing him off. All the time he had lost, the daughter he had never met.

Well, when Jerry got Brenda back safely they were going to have a long talk. They had been maneuvered around by other people long enough. Taking a deep breath Jax opened the door. Curled up on a bed shaped like a pink car was a beautiful little girl. She was still a baby really, according to Johnny she was 3 ½ years old, about to turn 4 on the 24th of December. Just two weeks away.

Shutting the door behind him Jax smiled at Debbie, who had been assigned to watch over her.

"Calliope…"

Jax whispered her name and knelt down by the side of her bed. Her body was rising and falling with every breath she took. His daughter. She looked so much like her mother, his wife. She was still his wife. Callie, as he was informed she preferred to be called, was clutching something as she slept. Brushing the brown curls out of her face Jax realized that it was the miniature yacht he and Brenda had always kept on the mantle. She whispered in her sleep for her mommy and Jax's heart broke.

"She'll be home soon sweetie. She'll be home soon. "

Jax lifted his daughter up into his arms and sighed. It felt so right to be holding the daughter he and Brenda had created. If he couldn't see to Brenda's safety at least he could see to Callie's. Walking past a startled Debbie, and heading towards the elevator, Jax smiled. He would take her to Alaska, his parents would protect her while Jax took care of some business. He couldn't trust anyone at the agency rught now, especially not Johnny, the man who had been one of his best friends. No, his daughter would be safe in Alaska, with family. Callie stirred in his arms and when he was looking down he saw his own eyes staring back at him. It was unnerving. Reaching up gently Callie smiled and touched his nose.

"Daddy? "
