I'll Stand By You-1
(Setting: Jax was barely injured at the renivation gala shooting, but the bullet brushed against him enough for there to be a need for hospitalization. Of course, Brenda comes to visit both Jax and Robin, who is still recovering from the kidnapping.)
Brenda: How are you holding up?
Jax: Come to think of it, I've been better.
Brenda: Yeah, well, you look better. Getting there, at least. Ummmm, let me think of what I need to tell you....oh! V. is temporarily leaving town to help track down Tess, that absolute nut job who was behind the scheme. So, since Dr.Quartermaine insists that you must not be 'alone with your injury' this week, I am moving in for the week to take care of you like I know you would do for me.
Jax: You know, I could make arrangements for a home-care nurse. I mean, a guy's gotta eat...
Brenda(indignantly): I cook very well!
Jax: Oh, right! Just like on Thanksgiving, eh?
Brenda: Well, I will learn, OK? Jax, please let me do this for you. I almost lost you. I want to stand by you through your recovery, as I know you would do for me.
Jax: You saved my life, Brenda. You've done plenty for me.
Brenda: See, I know that you need someone to help you through this. I know you're trying to pull this calm and collected act, but the people who love you are the people you can't fool. I see that you are truly struggling with this, and I can help you. Take it from someone who's had experience with shooting............
Jax: I'll admit I'm a little shaken up, but that's no reason to burden yourself, Brenda.
Brenda: Jax, you are not listening. I love you, and I really want to help you.
Jax: I know. I see that. In fact, sine the gala, I've been seeing many things very clearly.
Brenda: Like what?
Jax: Like, until this assassination attempt issue blows over, I think we should cool off on seeing one another.I don't want you in the line of fire.
Brenda: Please don't pretend you mean that. I hear that nonstop, and I'm getting sick of being treated like an invalid instead of a regular person. I refuse to be made to feel that way. Allright?
Jax: Are you sure?
Brenda: Yes, I am.
(He wraps an arm around her while elevating his opposite shoulder, the injured one. They lay on his bed together, and she turns to face him. Taking his head in her trembling hands, she is centimeters away from kissing him when the door opens, and in walk Lucy and a healthy Robin.)
Brenda: Oh! Hi!
Lucy(looking shocked): Sorry to interrupt!
Robin(giggling): Yeah, um, we came by to tell you that Mac and Felicia called us. They think 'Tess' is actually a woman named Tori DeSocio. Is that name farmiliar, Jax?
Jax: You bet. I can't believe this! Tori was my brother Jerry's third wife!
Lucy: Wow!!! And the Jacks family tree branches out to be even more ironic!
Robin: Well, I can call Uncle Mac and let him know.
Brenda: I can't believe Tess is your ex sister in law!
Jax: Yeah, Jerry didn't give her a cent. Probably on account of her state of mind, which was somewhat altered, and that's an understatement!
Lucy: So she is crazy?
Jax: Oh, yeah. And these days, she'd do almost anything for revenge on Jerry and our family. This does not surprise me.
Brenda(who just returned after leaving the room for a moment): I called your parents, Jax, and they will book Jerry a flight for this evening to Port Charles. We need him to make a statement and keep him in sight. Lucy: Good thinking. Robin and I will try to get some stats on Tori. Robin: Right, and we'll post Mac and Felicia on all this stuff. Call us when Jerry gets in?
*** (Setting: The PC Airport. Brenda has come to get Jerry. She watches as men and women come off the plane and wrap themselves up in a hug from their love. She blinks back tears as she watches a man he knows instantly is Jerry stride toward her. What a man! He has a flawless body, the Jacks-trademark blond hair, and brown eyes. He wears only a pair of jeans and Tshirt that shows off his incredibly toned abdomen. Brenda is wide eyed.)
Jerry: So, I finally meet the Face of Deception. The Jacks Cosmetics Cover Giirl. The genie chic. Hi, I'm Jerry Jacks.
Brenda: Hi. Ummmm....I really don't know how we should do this. If you want to make a statement now, we can do that. Or you could go and talk it through with Jax first.
Jerry: I think we should do this now. Will the detectives be cooperative?
Brenda: For you. For me, I doubt it. It's complicated.
Jerry: Well, I'm not in too much of a hurry. Why don't the two of us grab some dinner?
Brenda: What do you mean, you're not in a hurry???Jax's life is on the line.
Jerry: Lookit, Brenda. We both know Jax is safe at the hospital. And the way I understand it, Robin Scorpio already told her uncle about Tori. As far as the police go, we have some tome to play with. I mean, we can afford to think of the best time. Personally, I like having that advantage. And I plan on celebrating having it by eating dinner at Cafe` Francais with the most beautiful woman I've seen in my life.
***** (Setting: At the cafe`.)
Jerry: So, tell me about Brenda Barrett.
Brenda(laughing): Ha! Now there's a tragedy for you! No, you know, my life has been pretty complicated, what with me trying to win back Jax and all.
Jerry: Well, what if someone wanted to win you?
Brenda: I would stand by Jax. If there was ever a good thing for me, it was our marriage. And I want us to remarry, because I know that we are the truest love there ever was. And I will not let go of that. It is far too precious to me.
Jerry: You really want him.
Brenda: Yeah, but I may be wasting my time. He doesn't want to tell me the truth about the feelings he has for me. He's afraid I'll hurt him again.
Jerry: You are so incredibly smart, and intelligent, and insightful. You're a multi-dimensional human. I really like you.
Brenda: Yeah, you're not so bad yourself.
Jerry: My brother is lucky to have you in his life.
Brenda: So, now that you've showered me with embarrassing compliments, how about telling me more about yourself?
Jerry: Alllright. I am the brother of the most popular man in business, the behind the scenes guy. I care alot about family and stuff. I just need the right girl to make my family with. I've had three beautiful, special wives that I loved. But not one understood me. I think they all tried to solve me or decode me, as if I were a riddle. But there's nothing complex about me, really. I lay all my honest feelings right out there. It's knowing the deeper meaning of those feelings that women have trouble doing with me.
Brenda: Well, I think I have you figured out.
Jerry: Oh?
Brenda: When I look at you, Jerry, I see a man who lives his life on spontaneity. You're the wild card, and you thrive on it. You also feel as if you need to make your life more fulfilling, and that's why you want a family. And once you find the woman for you, I think you'll know right away.
(Jerry takes her hands, and brings them to his lips. He kisses them repeatedly.)
Jerry: I think I have now.
