First of all I think I might owe you all an apology when you are done reading
this chapter.
It's taken me longer then usual to write it and I think it may come across
as disjointed. So I'm sorry
in advance for the "suckiness" of this chapter. I will try my hardest to
rectify this in Chapter 33.
Jax was standing outside Kayleighs door when he heard her scream. He ran into the room and found her sitting on her hospital bed with her legs drawn up to her chest, arms tightly around her knees and her head down on her arms. She was sobbing.
"Sweetheart?" Jax said his voice full of concern. "Kayleigh honey whats wrong?"
Kayleigh didnt seem to hear him, she kept her head down and continued to cry. Jax gently put his hand on her shoulder.
"Kayleigh." he said softly.
Kayleigh looked up at Jax. "Jax can we please get out of here. I want to go home."
Jax sat down on the bed and drew Kayleigh into his arms. "Sweetheart whats wrong? Why did you scream?"
"I screamed?"
Jax nodded. "What happened? Are you in pain?"
Kayleigh shook her head. "No. I just had a horrible dream. It was so realistic."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
Kayleigh pulled Jaxs arms tighter around herself and took a deep breath. "I was laying in bed and I heard a baby crying. I got up to see where it was coming from. I knew it was our baby and I knew it needed me. I went running down the hall. When I got to the door where the crying was coming from it suddenly stopped." A sob shook her body. She took another deep breath and continued. "Then a nurse walked out of the room and scolded me for being out of bed. I told her I needed to see my baby but she ignored me. She grabbed my arm and tried to get me back to my room. I pulled away from her and when I got to the door, it opened and a doctor walked out. I told him I needed to see our baby and he just said he was sorry that they did everything that they could. I looked at him and asked him what he meant . Then he said, Im sorry your baby is dead and he walked away. I looked at the nurse and asked her what the doctor meant and where you were. She just looked at me and said your babys dead and you know what its your fault. Then she laughed at walked away. Thats when I screamed your name. But it was in my dream, I didnt realize I screamed aloud."
Jax hugged Kayleigh tightly to his body and kissed the top of her head. "Oh sweetheart I am so sorry that you had to have such a dream on top of everything else thats happened."
"Jax I really need to get out of here."
"Your papers are just about done, do you want me to go speed things up?"
"No! I dont want you to leave right now."
"Ok I wont go."
"Jax I dont have any clothes to wear home. I cant leave wearing this thing."
Kayleigh pulled at her hospital gown.
"Its already taken care of. I called mum earlier, she packed something up for you and is sending it over with the driver. He will be here shortly."
"Thank you." Kayleigh gave Jax small smile. "You always know what to do, dont you?"
Jax rested his chin on the top of Kayleighs head. "Not always luv, not always."
They were interrupted by a knock on the door. Bobbie stuck her head in and asked if she could come in.
"Sure Bobbie as long as you promise you arent going to poke me with more needles."
"Nope, no needles this time Kayleigh. Actually I am here to give Jax this." She handed Jax a small overnight bag. Your driver asked that you get this as soon as possible. I was coming in to get these signed so I offered to bring it."
"Thank you Bobbie."
Kayleigh perked up. "Are those my release papers?"
"Yes they are. Dr. Roe already scheduled and appointment for a follow up visit in a few weeks for you. Plus there are a few instructions that I have to go over with you."
"Can I get dressed first?" Kayleigh asked and standing up.
"Sure go ahead."
Kayleigh took the bag from Jax and walked into the bathroom as quickly as she could.
"Jax here is a prescription for pain medication for Kayleigh, you might want to stop on your way home and have it filled."
"Thanks Bobbie, but knowing Kayleigh she isnt going to want it. She hates taking pills."
"Please take it anyway. She might need them."
"Might need what?" Kayleigh asked as she walked out of the bathroom.
"The doctor prescribed some pain pills for you."
"Thanks Bobbie but I wont take them."
"Well that is up to you, but I have to give you the prescription."
"Fine." She took the prescription from Bobbie, folded it up and tore it in half. "Ill be ok. If I have any pain, Ill take a couple Motrin. Now can I sign these papers and get the hell out of here?"

Jax and Kayleigh were almost out of the hospital when a reporter rushed up to them and thrust a microphone in Kayleighs face.
"Ms. Hanson how does it feel knowing that you killed one of your attackers?"
Jax attempted to get in front of Kayleigh to block her from the reporter, but Kayleigh put her hand on his arm stopping him.
"Do you hear yourself?" Kayleigh asked the reporter. "How am I supposed to feel? Am I happy? No. But I certainly dont feel any remorse. It was either him or me. Now will you please excuse us, I would like to go home."
Kayleigh walked around a stunned reporter and into the waiting car, with an admiring Jax close behind.
"Kayleigh its not very often that I see a reporter left speechless."
"Well I figured that they would keep hounding me until I said something. Better to get it over with now."
They were interrupted by the ringing of a cell phone. "Jax here." Jax looked at Kayleigh. "Hang on a second." He took the phone from his ear and covered the mouthpiece. "Its your mom. Do you want to talk to her now or you want me to tell her youll call her back?"
Kayleigh sighed and leaned her head back against the seat. "Ill talk to her now. She wont let me rest until I do." Kayleigh took the phone from Jax. she spent the remainder of the ride home filling her mother in on what had happened. By the time they reached the house she had convinced her mother not to catch the next flight back to the states. She said her good byes and hung up as they pulled into the drive.
Jax opened the front door and Kayleigh walked inside, her senses overwhelmed with numerous delightful aromas coming from the kitchen.
"Your home! How do you feel luv?" Lady Jane asked. "Do you feel up to some food?"
"I feel pretty good Jane. Im just a little tired. You know even if I wasnt planning on eating anything before, when I walked in and got a whiff of whatever you cooked, I am now."
"Wonderful. I was hoping I could get you to eat. You need to build your strength up. And Jax dear you need some nourishment as well. Now lets go into the kitchen and get you two fed."
Jax and Kayleigh were sitting at the table eating when John walked in.
"Kayleigh how wonderful to see you home. How do you feel luv?"
"Just a little tired John."
"Thats understandable dear. Son you look like you could use some sleep as well."
"Im ok dad."
Kayleigh yawned and pushed her plate away. "Im going to go up and take a shower and then climb into bed. Jane thanks so much for the wonderful food. I really appreciate it. You didnt need to go to all the trouble."
"It wasnt any trouble dear."
Kayleigh stood up and walked over to Jane. She gave her a hug. "Thank you for everything."
"Your welcome dear. Is there anything special you would like for dinner?"
"No. I think there are going to be enough leftovers to keep us in food for a few days."
"I dont know about that dear. Jax isnt done eating and Jerry is sure to show up hungry."
"Well please dont go to anymore trouble on my account. I dont want you spending all your time in the kitchen." Kayleigh yawned again. "Im sorry. I really need to get some sleep. Ill be down later."
"No apologies needed Kayleigh." John said sweetly. "You just go get your rest."

Kayleigh kicked off her shoes and went to her dresser to get pajamas. She could feel Jaxs eyes on her. She turned and looked at him.
"Jax, honey you dont need to watch over me every second. Im just going to take a shower and then climb into bed. Why dont you go finish eating. Ill be ok."
"Ill go finish eating when you are tucked into bed. Your still weak Kayleigh, I dont want you taking a spill between now and then."
Kayleigh tried to give Jax a I can do it myself, Ill be fine look but failed miserably. Truth be told she was glad he wasnt leaving just yet. She felt a little shaky from the climb upstairs. "Thank you." She walked over to Jax and gave him a hug. "I love you. You know that dont you?"
"Im more sure of that then anything else in this world sweetheart. Why dont you get undressed and Ill go start the shower for you."
"Deal"
Jax went into the bathroom and Kayleigh heard the water start. She got undressed and turned around and gasped. She was looking at herself in the mirror for the first time since the attack. Her body was covered with bruises varying in size and color from a deep black-purple to red. She took a step closer to the mirror and looked at her face. Her right eye was black and swollen and her bottom lip was split.
"Sweetheart the water ." Jax lost his voice at the sight of Kayleigh. He quickly regained his composure and continued. "is ready. Just like you like it."
"Its ok Jax. I was a little shocked myself to say the least."
Jax didnt say a word. He walked over to Kayleigh and took her into his arms. "Im not as much shocked as I am angry luv. Angry that someone did this to you. Seeing your bruises just brought it all back to me, How close I came to losing you."
"I know baby, I know. But Im here and Ill heal. I better get that shower before the hot water runs out."
Kayleigh started to walk into the bathroom but Jax stopped her. He took her face into his hands and looked into her eyes. "I love you." He leaned down and kissed her.
Tears sprang to Kayleighs eyes. "I know. And that love is what got me through this and will continue to do so."
Jax walked Kayleigh into the bathroom and helped her into the shower. He closed the shower doors for her and sat on the edge of the sink while she showered.
His thoughts flashed back to a few moments before, when he walked out of the bathroom and saw Kayleighs bruises. He closed his eyes and tried to shut out the image.
"Jax?"
"Yeah sweetheart Im here."
"Can you do me a favor?"
"Anything sweetheart, what do you need?"
"Can you wash my hair for me? My arms are really sore."
"Of course." Jax opened the shower doors and took the shampoo from Kayleigh and washed her hair. He then got the towel, wrapped it around her, and got her out of the shower. He picked her up and carried her into the bedroom and put her on the bed.
"Jax I can dress myself!"
"I know you can, cant you just let me pamper you a little?"
Kayleigh opened her mouth to protest but changed her mind when she saw the look in Jaxs eyes. He went into the bathroom, returned with another towel and wrapped it around her head. He then took the towel that was wrapped around her body and carefully began to dry her off. Every time he got to a bruise he gently kissed it. Not a sexual kind of kiss, but a Im sorry kiss, a kiss to try and take away the pain.
After she was completely dried off Jax helped Kayleigh get into her pajamas. He took the towels into the bathroom and returned with the hair dryer.
"Jax I can ."
"I know you CAN, but Im doing it ok. So just sit there and relax."
Twenty minutes later Jax tucked Kayleigh into bed. "If you need anything just yell. Ill be right downstairs."
Kayleigh yawned. "Ill be fine. Now go finish eating."
Jax leaned down and kissed Kayleigh on the forehead. "I love you sweetheart."
"I love you to Jax." Kayleigh rolled onto her side and closed her eyes. She smiled to herself. She could feel Jax watching her. Knowing him he would stay where he was until she fell asleep. "Jax, Im ok. You dont need to stand there watching me."
Jax shook his head and walked over to the door. He opened it and turned and looked at Kayleigh once again.
