Chapter Three…

Seeing a brief look of pain cross Corey's face before it was quickly
replaced with anger, Jerry almost felt a twinge of sympathy for the
witch. Almost. Giving her another glare, Jerry proceeded across
the room towards Corey and Jax, stopping only when he was couple feet
away.

"Pleasant as always I see, Jerry," Corey said with biting sarcasm.
Then she walked right by him without giving him another look and sat
on the couch. She could feel Jerry’s eyes burning a hole in her
back as she crossed the short distance to the couch.

Jax, with a thoughtful look on his face, watched the whole play by play
between the two before asking his brother, "I thought you weren’t
coming for another week, Jer? What made you change your mind?"

Ignoring Jax for the moment, Jerry continued to glare at Corey before
snapping out at her, "What are you doing here anyway?"

Corey gave Jerry a cool look, "Well, I should think it
would be obvious, after all, Jax is my friend," she stated with a calm
she was far from feeling.

Before either could say another word, Jax cleared his throat and said
rather dryly, "Would you two mind not shedding blood all over my home?"

Corey got up from her seat on the couch and ignored Jerry completely
as she walked by towards Jax. She reached out and gave him a quick hug
goodbye, "Jax, obviously he," she said, glaring back at Jerry, "is going
to be provoking me. This isn’t getting us anywhere. Thanks for your
offer, but I think I'll get a room of my own. You know where to
find me."

Before either man could say another word, Corey was out the
door.

Jax gave his brother a puzzled look while saying, "Ok Jer, would
you care to explain why you were so determined to spill Corey’s blood
all over my house?"

Jerry finally pulled his eyes from the closed door to his brother’s
face, said rather tightly, "I don’t have to explain anything to you."
Having said that, Jerry walked over, picked up his coat and headed for
the door. "I’ll be back later," he mumbled.

Jax watched his brother head out the door and shook his head.
Picking up the phone, Jax decided to make a few business calls before
he went to find Corey. That way she would have a little time to cool
off from Jerry’s attack.

Walking through the lobby, Corey stopped and registered for a room
before heading to the PC Grill. Sitting down at the bar, she looked
at her surroundings.

She immediately ordered a drink and sipped it slowly, while
thinking back to the scene in Jax’s apartment.

"Is there something wrong with your drink or do you just not like it?"
came a laughing voice behind her.

Startled by the voice, Corey turned around to the man behind her, giving
him a puzzled look. "Excuse me?" she asked.

"Well, if you continued to glare down at that glass, it might shatter
in your hands. By the way, my name’s Ned Ashton. And you are?" he
continued with a smile.

Finally breaking a smile herself, she replied, "I’m Corey Mathison."

Before either one could say anything else, another voice came from
behind them. "You and I need to talk," the man behind them said
icily.

Jerry watched as Corey’s whole body stiffened from the sound of his
voice. His jaw tightened in response to the anger he felt towards
this woman.

Without turning around, Corey knew who the voice belonged to. Jerry.
Turning around to look at her tormentor with open hostility in her
eyes, she replied, "Not here."

In that same icy voice, Jerry responded, "Fine." He gave her a sardonic
look before continuing, "Your room I presume?"

Nodding her head in response, Corey turned to Ned and said a brief
goodbye. Opening her wallet, she placed a few dollars on the bar as a
tip and followed Jerry out of the grill.
