Trying to Forget
Chapter 6

********The Isabella

Brenda gasped in wonder at the magical setting. It was just like her dream. Jax watched
her face closely for her reaction. He had given the caterer specific instructions about how
he wanted the dinner to go. Maybe he had overdone it.

"Brenda ?" Jax spoke quietly, trying to get her attention as he was unable to read her expression.

She knocked him off guard by throwing her arms around him and hugging him. He could almost imagine her smiling.

"I take it that the setting is to your liking ?" He laughed.

She nodded.

"It's beautiful. Thank you."

"What did I say about thanking me ? It was truly a pleasure just to see that smile on your face."

He whispered to her, stroking her face gently and holding her hand with his other. She blushed prettily.

"Unless you want to thank me with another kiss. Then feel free."

She giggled softly.

"Maybe later."

"Is that a promise of things to come ?"

"Definitely a possibilty. How did you get this place set up like this so fast ?" She asked

curiously.

"I have my ways."

"Magic huh ?"

"I don't want to give away my trade secrets but I do have a few tricks up my sleeve."

Brenda found herself trapped in his deep blue-eyed gaze.

"And if anyone has been practicing any spells around here it has to be you. You certainly have me under one." He said, gazing deeply into her chocolate colored eyes, completely mesmerized. Brenda felt herself falling deeper, not just because of his hypnotic eyes but also his voice. A voice that could melt anyone with a pulse. Hers quickened immediately.
His eyes wandered dangerously to her lips. A force was pulling him towards her. A power they both felt. An intense attraction. Mutual desire but there was something more stronger underneath it all. Something begging to be uncovered and unleashed. Jax slowly leaned down, watching her face carefully. She seemed to be in a daze. An adorable cute one. She halfway closed her eyes and waited anxiously. She didn't have to wait long. His lips meet hers and a warm sensation filled her. Little fireworks went off inside her and her heart did strange contortions. A little moan escaped her throat. It felt like the kiss would never end. Never be broken. Unfortunately for the couple, the noise behind them startled them. Jax turned to see the red-faced captain.

"Excuse me Mr. Jacks."

"What is it Eric ?"

"Everything is set and we're ready to set sail if there isn't anything else..."

Jax shook his head.

"That'll be all for now. We'll see you in a few hours. Thank you."

The elderly man quickly disappeared below. Jax watched him leave with relief and disappointment. Relief because he knew that he wouldn't have been able to break away from the bewitching creature before him. He meant to pull away but couldn't find the strength to. She did things to him. Things he had never felt before. He was disappointed for some of the same reasons. He turned back to Brenda who was still taking in her surroundings. Suddenly she felt slightly underdressed. She wished she had had the chance to change her clothes. Maybe if she had stopped to think about it she would have had the foresight to make herself look better. She was probably a mess. Here she was with a wonderful handsome man and she wasn't doing anything to impress him like her sister was taught to do. Her father would be laughing if he were watching. Jax watched the look on her face change from awe to wistful. Something deep inside him cracked. He had to cheer her up. Maybe if she felt more comfortable then she might talk about it. If not then he would at least put that smile back on her face which in itself was a worthy accomplishment. His voice soon snapped Brenda out of her funky mood. She saw him holding out his hand to her and asking if she was ready to continue their night. She sighed and leaned against the railing of the yacht.

"You know, maybe this wasn't such a good idea."

Jax walked over to stand by her. His eyes filled with concern.

"Do you not feel well or somehing ?" His hand instinctively went to feel her forehead. Her olive-colored skin was so soft. She felt warm all over just from the littlest of his touch.

"No, it's just that...well, maybe we could just do this another night. I mean I hate to sound ungrateful...." She said, looking down at her shoes.

"Another night ? We could do that but I already have everything here. I thought of everything. Dinner, flowers, candles, the yacht. A dress. Shoes. I had my assistant pick it out but I told her what kind to buy." He teased her.

Brenda was barely listening. She opened her mouth to say something but stopped. She regained her power of speach a minute later.

"What ?"

"I said my assistant-"

"Before that."

"About dinner ?"

"After that." She hit him playfully on the arm.

"Ouch. You know if you keep doing that, you'll leave me all bruised up."

"Awww. Poor baby. Want me to kiss it and make it feel better ?" She didn't give him a chance to respond. She jumped up and asked where the dress was. When he told her she quickly gave him a kiss before flying off and disappearing inside the ship. He shook his head and laughed, trying to forget the burning sensation he had felt on his mouth where her lips had just been.

Brenda paused to catch her breathe when she had reached her destination. Boy, the yacht was huge. Made her wish she had asked Jax to carry her or at least wait for him to show her around. She laughed a little at the stray thought. She probably wouldn't be able to form a complete sentence if she was ever that close to him. She kicked off her shoes and her feet sunk into the pulsh carpet of the cabin. She turned to see a beautiful white dress hanging in front of the armoire. It had a slit up one side. It was the one she had seen in her dream. She grabbed it and felt the soft silky fabric. She threw off her clothes and slipped into the dress. She ran into the adjoining bathroom and fixed her hair in the mirror.

"I guess this will just have to do." She murmured as she smoothed out the imaginary wrinkles in her dress. She put her feet into the high-heeled sandals that were on the bed. They fit perfectly just like the dress. She took one last look at herself and walked back to the deck of the yacht. When she got there she fought the urge to pinch herself. Jax was in a tuxedo, fixing some of the candles that had burned out. A few blonde locks fell across his forehead. Giving him that boyish look she thought made him look even more sexier.
She was faintly aware of the soft music that floated in the air. As if he sensed her presence he looked up to see her standing there. His breathe caught in his throat.

"Hi."

"Hi. You really know how to pick out clothes. It fits perfectly."

Only on you, he thought clearing his throat.

"I guessed the size. I'm glad I was right."

Jax poured two glasses of champagne and handed one to her.

"A toast ?"

"What should we toast to ?"

"Normally I'd say to good health but I think. To us."

"Us." She repeated softly.
