Unexpected Love-5

Author's note: Remember this story?? It's been awhile. If you don't remember, here's a recap: Felicia Jones' younger sister Bryony has come to town after the death of her aunt Luisa. She and Jax met, and went out on a date, but Bryony got sick and ran to the bathroom, where she sat crying.

Unexpected Love part 5

It was nearly 8 PM. After 30 excruciatingly long minutes for both Jax and Bryony, she finally left the bathroom and headed to their table, feeling very embarrassed. Jax stood up as she neared the table, immediately noticing her red eyes and lack of make-up. He smiled warmly at her, his concern evident.

"Feeling better, Bryony?"

"Um, yeah," she responded. "I'm really sorry about that, Jax. I—"

"There is absolutely no reason to apologize, sweetie," he interjected, deciding not to bring up her tear-stained face. She smiled her thanks at him.

"I've got an idea," Jax said suddenly. "Let's leave here and try some place else. How about Luke's?"

"Who's Luke?" asked Bryony, confused.

"Luke Spencer is the owner of Luke's, which is a blues club," Jax explained. Bryony gave him a sudden, bright smile.

"You're on!"

He paid and got their coats and they left the Outback, laughing together. The night passed quickly for both Jax and Bryony, and it was after midnight when he drove her back to the Outback to pick up Felicia's car. She got out of Jax's car and he followed.

"I had a really good time tonight, Jax. And, um, thanks for not--," she started. He gently put his finger over her mouth to stop her.

"Hey, now. What did I tell you about that?" Their eyes locked. "It...was...nothing," he whispered, leaning closer with every word until his lips were gently pressed onto her own. Bryony's reaction was immediate.

"NO!!," she exclaimed, backing away, near tears. "No! Don't do that!" She looked terrified.

Jax reached out and caught her arm. "Hey. Hey. Bryony. It's OK. I'm sorry."

She shook her arm loose, still looking scared, but also looking a little embarrassed. She tried to slow her rapid breathing and succeeded a little. Now she was really embarrassed.

"I better go," she said brusquely.

"Are you sure you're OK?," Jax asked with concern.

"Yes," she replied shortly, fumbling for her keys. She finally found them and climbed into the car, driving off. Jax hopped back into his fire engine red Mustang he had left idling and followed her. He knew that this was her first day in Port Charles and might not know the way back to Felicia's. His worried were unfounded though, as she safely parked in front of the brownstone and walked around back. Relieved, he drove off towards his home at the Port Charles Hotel, vowing to call her the next day to make sure she was OK.

Unexpected Love part 6

Bryony burst into tears the minute that she entered the back yard. She walked over to the play set and sat on the swings. She lazily pushed herself back and forth as she cried, thinking of this night and the past year. She and Jax had been having such a good time until she had ruined it. Both times. Ray was right. All she ever did was screw up. Tonight was proof of that. Even though the last thing she had wanted—well, maybe the second to last thing she wanted—was a relationship right now, Jax still seemed really great. And now she had ruined it. She sighed and realized how self-pitying she sounded.

"Cheer up, old girl," she told herself with a smile. "It probably could be a lot worse. I mean..."

Suddenly, the lights in Felicia's apartment flipped on and Felicia opened the French doors.

"Who's there?," she asked. "I'm serious, I have my hand on the phone and I am going to call..."

"Felicia, it's me!," Bryony exclaimed. "My God! You're holding a knife!"

Felicia dropped the knife onto the table and walked out the doors, hugging her pink terry cloth robe to herself.

"Bree? Why are you sitting out here alone? Come on in, it's cold."

Bryony wiped her eyes with her sleeve and followed her sister inside.

"Why did you have that knife, Lecey? I've never seen you so...so...," Bryony faltered.

"Panicked?," Felicia finished, wryly. "Well, I guess you can blame it nerves. Last year, I had this incident with a stalker, and it left me a bit paranoid." Bryony's eyes widened. "It's OK now, Bree, really. I just didn't know it was you out there and it never hurts to be careful. Now, I've talked long enough for you to compose yourself." Bryony opened her mouth to protest, but Felicia kept talking. "I want to know what happened tonight to make you sit out there on the swings and cry, Bryony," she said gently.

Bryony took a deep breath. She knew that especially now, she had to tell someone everything. It was time. Things had gone too far.

"It didn't start tonight, Lecey. It had nothing to do with Jax. It started about a year ago in Texas when I met this guy named Ray. At first....."
