Thanks for all the awesome feedback I have been getting on this story. This chapter is devoted to Rhonda, who keeps me writing even when I feel like I can't write anymore. Thanks to everyone who has sent feedback it means so much to me.
Love is On the Way 9
Jerry and Lois are talking in his room.
" Well I think we're all allowed to be upset Jerry, even you." Lois said.
" No I'm not, not in the way I feel right now. No one can possibly understand how much I love her. I'd do anything to have her back right now, even if it's not with me, because I love Jax that much. And I love her in way that's even unreal to me after all these years." Jerry said.
" Who Jerry? Who are you in love with after all these years? I can't believe you'd ever be saying such things." Jax said as him and Robin walked in the room.
" Jax what are you doing up here? I thought you would still be downstairs with everyone else." Jerry said turning around as Lois stood up.
" I was coming to talk to you. I got some good advice from a good friend." He said looking at Robin as she smiled.
" Oh well Lois was in here trying to help me out a little bit. So what's up?" Jerry said.
" Nothing I just wanted to make peace with you. I know this isn't exactly the way you like to handle business, I mean with all this chaos going on with people kidnapped and all." Jax said.
" Yeah that's because I am usually the one kidnapped." Jerry said as they both laughed and shook hands and then pulled each other into a hug.
" Yeah so tell me are you up here trying to steal Lois away from Jack?" Jax said as he put his arm around Lois.
" No but she is beautiful. And I do love the company of beautiful women." Jerry said smiling at her and Robin.
" She's taken too." Jax said as he looked at Jerry looking at Robin.
" All the good ones are." Jerry said thinking about Brenda.
" Including the one you were telling Lois you love so much? If you love her and haven't seen her for years then she must be special." Jax said.
" Yeah she is, but I don't want to talk about it." Jerry said.
" Oh come on. Tell me. I need something to keep my mind off Brenda for just a little bit before we have to go downstairs again." Jax said.
" Come on Jax, it's not important." Jerry said.
" Yes it is I would love to meet the woman that stole your heart, especially if you didn't tell me about her. So spill it." Jax said.
" Jax just let it go. Come on we should get back downstairs." Jerry said as he tried to walk past Jax but was stopped when Jax stopped him by kinda of putting his hand on his chest.
" Jerry I don't see what the big deal is. I mean is it someone I know. I mean is it an ex-girlfriend of mine? I really wouldn't care if you love her and you want her. I say go for it, I would never deny you happiness. You always get what you want, nothing is ever out of your reach, so go and get it." Jax said looking at Jerry.
" I CAN'T GO AND GET HER BECAUSE IT'S BRENDA! Damn it, it's Brenda. I'm sorry, Jax." Jerry said.
" I don't understand. You just met her and don't tell me otherwise because I know that if she had some thing with you then she would have told me about it. We don't lie to each other, not anymore." Jax said his eyes blazing.
" She didn't lie to you. She just simply didn't know and neither did I." Jerry said.
" I think we should go." Lois said as she made a move past Jax but he stopped her too.
" Did you know about this Lois?" Jax said his eyes pleading for the truth.
" Yes, Brenda was on her way to tell you when I saw her and she told me because she was afraid of losing you and she needed to figure it all out before she came to you with it. That's where she was headed when I left her before she was taken." Lois said near tears. " I'm sorry Jax." Lois said.
" Don't be, this is between Jerry and me." Jax said as he looked at his brother with eyes blazing.
" Jax give him a chance to explain, he's got a good explanation." Lois said.
" He always does." He said as Robin and Lois made their way out of the room.
" Jax you have to understand I met Brenda before she ever met you. Before she ever even lived in the States." Jerry started.
" Well you better start explaining how you met my soon to be wife and never told me about it!?" Jax demanded barely controlling his anger. Jerry turned around to look out the window and away from Jax.
" Brenda was 18 when I met her. I was 25. She was in Paris and she was playing hooky from her latest boarding school and her father had just died. We met in a club and she was with some race car driver, Jean Paul. I guess she was growing bored with him and when I saw her I thought she was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. So I went over to her and asked her to dance and she said yes. We had a good time and she left with me after Jean Paul had gotten way too intoxicated. I took her home to her hotel and she told me her name was Veronica and I said mine was Jared, there were no last names involved we both wanted to keep that air of mystery involved. Anyway she said I could stay since the room was huge and it was so late. We didn't sleep much though, we stayed up all night talking. It was the closest thing I had ever had to a female friend. I trusted her and I know she trusted me. She had a pretty crappy childhood and she told me about that when I told her about our family. To her it was everything she could have ever wanted.
Anyway we decided to hang out for the rest of my time in Paris. It was only supposed to be a few days but I couldn't stay away from her so a few days turned into a few months. I really liked her, she had a great eye for business but she had bad grades in school and I couldn't understand that. But that had to do with her rotten father. Anyway I loved the way she embraced every competition and challenge. She was the only woman I had ever met to have such a zest for life and even things that some people seem to take for granted. She was like my kindred spirit. That's all it was Jax, I never slept with her, if that's what you think." Jerry said finally turning around to see Jax staring at him as he sat in a chair with a blank expression on his face.
" Did you ever get intimate with her?" Jax said barely breathing.
" Jax……." Jerry said not wanting to talk about it.
" I need to know Jerry. For once be honest with me." Jax said.
" I was honest with you. Did I hold her? Yes. Did we sleep together in the same bed in full pajamas when she had nightmares? Yes. Did I kiss her? Yes. The fact still remains that it never went any farther than that." Jerry said.
" Jerry I know you probably better than anyone, I'd like to think. And I know that you don't 'hang out' with a woman for longer than 2 days unless there is some type of intimacy. Please just tell me everything. I don't want any surprises later." Jax said.
" Jax what the hell do you want from me?" Jerry said as he started to lose his control.
" I mean I know you. I know that you don't just hang with a female unless you are expecting some type of sexual gratification." Jax said.
" It wasn't like that with her. I mean maybe it started off like that but I really liked her." Jerry said.
" You said you loved her. That you love her still. So either that's the truth or again you were lying. Now which is it, you can't have it both ways." Jax said.
" Jax I don't want to hurt you. I would die before I hurt you willingly. Why can't you just drop this. I mean nothing happened between us and even if it did, it doesn't mean anything because she loves you. Everything inside of her belongs to you. Everything that is good inside of her is you just like everything good inside of me is because of her. I'm not trying to take her away from you and even if I was it would be useless because all she wants is you. Don't ruin it because of this, because of the past." Jerry said.
" Let me ask you a question. I can buy that Brenda never knew who you were because she never seen pictures of you, but she is a model seen all over the world, you dated her sister for Pete's sake, and you never guessed that's who it was." Jax said clearly agitated.
" Jax I don't read fashion magazines and I never was interested in your love interest especially since she was a model. Models are usually airheads and I figured you were getting in over your head again. I never knew it was Brenda. As for when I dated Julia we were both in London by that time Brenda had already moved here. Yes Julia talked about her but I didn't know her name was Brenda, I thought it was Veronica and I never knew her last name, nor did she know my last name or my first name." Jerry said.
" Okay but that doesn't explain why you have been carrying a torch for her all this time and never pursued it. I mean how did she feel about you?" Jax said sincerely trying to understand.
" I don't really know, that's a question for her or for her friend Lois since Brenda obviously talked to her about it. And I never pursued her because I guess I was afraid too. I never wanted to be in a relationship that involved anything having to do with monogamy and back then she was just as wild as I was. I never told her how I felt because I didn't want to get shot down but also because I was afraid of the possibility of anything that strong. I had to get away from it as fast as I could." Jerry said.
" I'm sorry that I have been torturing you like this but it's just that…..you knew parts of Brenda that I only dreamed that I could know. I wanted to know that sad little girl, I longed to so that I could make the sadness go away and now I know that you did. I guess I am jealous of you." Jax said.
" Why? You have her now and in more complete a way than I ever did. I could only dream about what you have with her. I have dreamed about it. Jax don't let what was get in the way of what is. I'll do whatever you want. If you want me to leave I will. Whatever you want, I'll do it, if it'll keep you both happy." Jerry said.
" Let's not talk about this anymore. Right now I need you with me. At least I know that someone has as much incentive as I do to get her back. I don't whether or not that's good or bad for me but I know it works in her favor. I'll do whatever it takes to find her." Jax said.
" You know I will too. So let's get back down there and get something together." Jerry said.
" Jerry thank you." Jax said.
" For what?" Jerry said as he turned around before making his way out of the door.
" For loving me this much. For loving her that much." Jax said.
" We can't help who we love Jax. Don't give it a second thought." Jerry said as left the room with Jax right behind him. Lois and Robin were outside waiting to see if one or both of them would be bruised and bloody after their 'talk' and they wanted to be able to help either way. They all walked down together.
Downstairs in the Living Room.
Downstairs in the living room everyone was still trying to piece things together as far as some type of deal and everyone else was working on setting up some kind of basic center to work from. Then there was a knock on the door.
" Who in the hell could that be?" Mike said.
" Well I'll get it." Miles said as he took out his gun. He stood on the side of the door and opened the door at the same time that he stuck the gun out of the door and up to someone's temple.
" Relax I'm here to help to you." The voice said from outside as he fully opened the door.
" Jason what are you doing here?" Mike said.
" I'm here to help you." He said as he came in from outside.
" How do we know we can trust him. He works for Sonny." Miles said.
" Look I'm here aren't I. Sonny doesn't even know that I am here. I just wanted to help. Sonny wanted me to protect Brenda at all cost. He's not himself and I know that he'd even want me to protect her from him." Jason said.
" Why do I think there is more to it than that." Julia said.
" Listen I care about Robin. Brenda is Robin's best friend and I don't want anything to happen to Brenda that's going to hurt Robin. Besides Sonny has really snapped, it's because of his grief over losing her. I really want to help because I know that he'd want me to protect her even if it meant hurting him in the process. Besides I like Brenda kinda. I mean at least I understand her better now and I don't want anything to happen to her." Jason said.
" Okay so if we buy this then how are you going to help us?" Michael said.
" Well I don't know but I assume that you guys are working on something and I'll do whatever I can to help. I know where he is and what he's planning but that's it. He tells me everything, no lies." Jason said.
At that moment Jax, Jerry, Lois and Robin all walked down the stairs.
" What the hell is he doing here?" Jax said as him and Jerry broke out at the same time to get a hold of Jason. Unfortunately for Jax he stopped to speak so Jerry got to him first and him pinned to the wall.
" Get him off me." Jason said calmly looking Jerry right in the face as he let him go.
" So what the hell are you doing here Morgan?" Jax asked.
" I came to help you get Brenda back anyway that I can." Jason said.
" Why should I believe anything you say?" Jax said.
" Because it's the truth. I wouldn't lie to you about this. I may be many things but I would never come here and lie to Robin, Emily and Lila just to destroy you. And I would never hurt Brenda on purpose." Jason said.
" Okay so how are you going to help us?" Jerry piped up.
" Well let's start with what Sonny is using for a bargaining chip. I mean he's got Brenda and that means he thinks you will come for her with something that you have that you all thinks he wants." Jason said.
" That's right the dock's project is what he is using." Julia said.
" I figured as much. He wants to make it look like I took her and I'm using her as the bargaining chip to push the dock's project through without your interference that way I can have my piece of the docks and free rein of it." Jason said.
" Okay that makes perfect sense but why then would he leave a note signed with his name." Jax said.
" Well maybe because you're not suppose to think it's him. There are a few people here who know Sonny and would probably argue that he would never do this to Brenda and that would lead you to the next possible suspect, me, or at least someone who works for me." Jason said.
" Okay let's say we buy this story what sense would it make to sign his name to make us think it's you when we're going to find out that it's really him when we get up there to negotiate." Jax said.
" Because Sonny doesn't intend to negotiate, Jax. He wants it all back. Everything his life was before, he wants it back. That includes his business. Although that is trivial compared to having her back. He's snapped I'm telling you." Jason said.
" You're holding out on us. There's something you're not telling us, I can feel it." Jerry said looking right into the eyes as he averted his gaze.
" Jason if you know something that is going to help us get Brenda back alive, then you need to tell us. Please." Robin said.
" Okay listen I've been lured up here too, the only thing is I don't think Sonny is responsible for all this. Someone took Michael, to get me here. So I am not exactly here just to help Brenda. Although I was coming here for that exact purpose when they took him from me in the first place." Jason said.
" And why do I get the feeling that you know who this person is?" Jax said.
" Because I do. But I can't tell you, Sonny wants Brenda protected at all costs and I can't tell you anymore than I already have. But I do know that whoever has Brenda and Michael has Sonny here too. Or maybe Sonny is with them just to make sure that two people that are important to him are okay." Jason said.
" Listen Jason spare us all the praises to Sonny's character. While I will admit that stooping to kidnapping seems out of his usual character I don't have to stretch my imagination to think that he would do it if pushed to it." Jax said.
" Jax listen Sonny loves her he wouldn't hurt her." Jason said.
" He already has. More times than I can count on both my hands. He's done things to her that I would never inflict upon someone I was supposed to love." Jax said.
" Jax, Brenda and I may not exactly love each other but we were forming some kind of friendship. Sonny is my friend and my brother and Michael is my son. All I want is to get them all back safe and alive. I don't want to fight with you about something that you have no idea about." Jason said.
" Well then why don't you enlighten us all." Jax said.
" No I will." John said.
" Dad what are you talking about?" Jax said.
" I know what's going on here and I should have told you. Jerry wanted to tell you when he got involved but I swore him to secrecy." John said.
" What are you saying Dad, that you're involved with organized crime?" Jax said.
" Let's go somewhere private and talk about this. These people don't need to know this." John said.
" That's the same thing you said when Miranda came. And now just like then I am going to tell you the same thing. I need to know, how you could look me right in my face and lie." Jax said.
" I didn't want to but you weren't supposed to be involved in it. This is all my fault. We got involved with these people for all the wrong reasons. Our intentions were good, I swear it to you." John said.
" Jax listen to your Dad he's telling you the truth. We found out about all of this a few days ago. We've been investigating Carlos Perez for trying to kill me. We knew he didn't have the guts to carry it out himself, so he must have hired someone to do it for him." Jason said.
" That's where I come in. I was working with a friend from this place called Section One to help bring down organized crime on the eastern seaboard, thus the fighting between Marino and Morgan. They were hoping that they would take each other out." Jerry said.
" But that didn't happen because of Michael. Instead of going to war with Marino I called a truce because I had Michael to worry about." Jason said.
" Then it was Carlos who got greedy for more power with a little help from me. After I did a little maneuvering I made it look like I was desperate to close a deal but I didn't have enough capital so I borrowed it from him." Jerry said.
" Only the company was fake and so no dirty money ever tarnished J&J Jacks or you Jax." John said.
" But what it did was put me in Carlos' debt. I made it seem as if I couldn't pay it back. So Carlos made the deal that I wanted, which was for me to take out Jason and his associates all of them." Jerry said.
" Right but all the time Carlos didn't know that he wasn't going to get the territory. He was going to go down with the rest of them because Section One already the goods on him they just wanted to use him to bring out the rest of them." John said.
" So when Sonny and I figured it out that he was the one behind my assassination we went after him. Sonny was looking for anyway to discredit you and your family Jax so that he could have Brenda by lessening you and your family in her eyes. He wasn't exactly thinking clearly but when I went over it with Justus we both agreed that it didn't make sense. Something else was going on. I mean why would Jerry or anyone from your family, with the kind of money you guys have independently or united, have to borrow money from someone as sleazy as Carlos. So I went to Jerry and he gave me nothing. But somebody slipped up and I found what we were looking for that he was trying to bring me down." Jason said.
" But I still wouldn't admit anything either way. But when Jason told me his plan to help me then we made a deal. He wanted to get out of the organization because of his son. He wanted him to have a normal life and not be raised around all of it. So I said I would help him if he would help me bring down everyone else but I had to keep Sonny safe too. I agreed because it was the only way and Sonny was no threat because he was already out." Jerry said.
" So we've been working together for the last few weeks trying to get everything situated especially so that everyone will be safe. They didn't tell you because when Sonny found out he didn't want Brenda hurt by any of this and we knew that anyone who knew what was going on could be killed. Jerry and your father agreed because they didn't want you hurt and they didn't want the company that you have put your everything into to be hurt by anyone trying to get back at them for what they were doing." Jason said.
" That's the whole truth and I know it sounds bad but we didn't want you to be hurt and………" John started.
" That's always your excuse for leaving me in the dark. I mean how can I trust you, why should I, when you don't trust me. Obviously I am just too delicate to handle anything." Jax said.
" Jax that wasn't the reason we kept this from you. If you had known they could have used you to mess everything up. We didn't want you to get killed." John said.
" It's always me who needs to be protected and shielded from everything. Well I don't appreciate it and if you haven't noticed they already are using me. They took my FIANCE!" Jax exploded.
" Jax you just never get it do you? It's not about you, it's about them. They took Brenda because of Sonny not because of you, they don't give a damn about you. I mean you have a family that's something I want to give to Michael. Something I don't have. My family was handpicked but your family is yours forever because of blood. Blood ties last longer than all ties that you picked for yourself. That doesn't make the ties any better or any worse their just different. These people love you, they want to protect you and that may seem so irritating I know because it's exactly the reason I am with Sonny and not the Quartermaines." Jason said.
" Then that's enough said, you know what I'm talking about then." Jax said.
" You didn't let me finish. I didn't understand it then because I think people have to make their own decisions and their own mistakes but now that I have Michael I know I will do whatever I have to, to protect him. That's what your Dad was doing and your brother too. He protects you like I would protect Emily. I'd do whatever it takes to keep them safe, I love them that much." Jason said.
" I don't care how much you love someone you don't keep something from someone that big for their own protection. You can't protect people from everything, least of all life." Jax said.
" Is that why you didn't tell Brenda about your dead wife? Is that why you took care of anyone who upset her when she had her nervous breakdown? You're no better than them. It's not wrong to want to protect someone you love from being hurt. You've done it for Brenda and there's no doubt you'll do it again because you love her that much. Probably more than that much and I know how that feels because I've been lucky enough to love people like that to know the feeling." Jason said.
" Jason you don't know the first thing about my life. SO don't try and pretend you do. No matter what you say they betrayed me. You'd think after the first time you guys would have gotten the point that I don't need protecting from anyone." Jax said.
" Jax there was no way that we could have gotten around not telling you. I know you are mad right now but if we would have told you it would have ruined all of us. I wasn't going to let that happen and neither was Dad. Now we've all sit around long enough and listen to you be self-righteous and whine about not knowing something that wasn't any of your business to begin with. There was no reason that you had to know about this, we all operate independently and this was my venture. You don't consult me every time you make a deal and I don't expect you to. I wanted to help a friend that needed a favor and that's the end of the story. Now of this is helping is get Brenda back or Morgan's kid for that matter, so we don't need to talk about a plan for the docks project since we obviously know that's not what they want and even if it is I am sure everyone involved knows enough about the project to wing it when we get there. It's going to be a long hike to the other side of the island so we're taking the horses. There are only like 6 I think so we're all pairing up to go. Dad's not going because of his heart. Now we're all going now. If you don't like it you can stay here and sulk. Everyone else the horses are in the stables let's go." Jerry said.
" Wait a minute let's all pair up before we leave if we're going to make sure everyone is okay and accounted for once we have to make a run for it or whatever then it needs to be organized." Jax said looking at Jerry with a look he knew meant none of this is over.
" Okay Alexis and Ned you guys take Angel. Julia and Michael you guys take Blade. Jack you ride with Jason on Thoros. Miles you ride on Hercules. Jax you take Willow and I'll take Oz." Jerry said shelling out assignments.
" Let's go." Jax said as he was the first one out of the door.
