Wai Sun felt his spirits lifting at the sight of A Dee and Cho Fai together. The warm scene touched his heart to the very core, and silently he closed the door to his friend`s room before the magical moment was broken. A satisfied smile on his lips,Wai Sun left the Kwan`s residence and headed towards the market to find something to eat. He felt a bit ashamed at telling A Dee how Cho Fai truly felt about her because he knew that it was none of his business and it was really up to Cho Fai to tell her himself. But,Wai Sun couldn`t stand by the sidelines and watch his gentle friend slip from his grasp. So,taking on the role of cupid,Wai Sun had finally told A Dee the truth. He just prayed that Cho Fai would never be foolish enough to wed Kwok Hoi Yee now that A Dee would surely feel obligated to stay with him in his time of need. Wai Sun also felt a bit concerned for Cho Fai`s health as well. Sure,Cho Fai assured him that he was fine, but a healthy man did not look as pale as a ghost and thin as a skeleton as Cho Fai did lying on his bed. No,Wai Sun shook his head in denial, there was nothing wrong with Cho Fai. That bed was NOT Cho Fai`s deathbed. He had to stop thinking such horrible things.

"Ahh...my bag! Someone stole my bag!"a shrill voice screamed, interrupting his thoughts. Startled,Wai Sun looked up in time to see a figure dash past him, pushing him against a vendor`s stand and sending him sprawled on the ground in confusion. Then,a female figure with long hair ran past him and it took him a few minutes of blinking to realize that the girl was Bo Bo,A Dee`s friend and the idiotic girl who had fought with him at the apple stand the other day. Wai Sun lay on the ground, watching the scene in amusement. The girl deserved to have her bag stolen,he reasoned, but then he stopped himself from leaving with a groan. He had to help, she was a female in distress and A Dee`s friend afterall. Wai Sun,he thought to himself, you are a knight in shining armour and God`s gift to women. This girl had better appreciate his help.

Bo Bo ran as fast as her legs could carry her, crying at the top of her lungs for help as she tried to keep from losing sight of the thief. Her father had asked her to go buy him some medicine herbs, but she was foolish enough to have it stolen from her. The thief no doubt must have thought the bag had money it it,not herbal medication for ill patients. Then,to her astonishment,a male figure ran beside her and shouted at her,"I`ll take the shortcut around here to stop the thief. You just make sure you don`t lose sight of him!"

The figure ran past her at a lightening speed so she could not have the time to recognize his face but the voice...the voice was the same irresistable, husky voice that had haunted her dreams day and night. It couldn`t be Yang Wai Sun,could it?

The thief turned a corner and Bo Bo,lost in her thoughts about Wai Sun,did not have time to react and she crashed into a vendor`s stand. "Miss, what do you think you`re doing?"the vendor cried out angrily at the mess of his vegetable stand. Mumbling a shameful apology,Bo Bo took some money out of her pocket to pay for the vendor`s damages and stood up. Frantically, she searched for the thief but he was already gone. Too angry to speak,Bo Bo stomped her foot on the ground in defeat. Why did all of these ridiculous things always happen to her when Wai Sun was around? If he thought that she was a hopeless fool the other day at the apple stand,he must have thought her to be a maniac on the loose now. Then,to her horror, hot, furious tears of shame began to slip down her cheeks before she could stop herself.

"Crying women doesn`t help the situation,"a voice said from behind her mockingly, and she whirled around to find the handsome face of Yang Wai Sun smiling at her with her bag of medicine in his hands. His smile was bright but it was too triumphant and it seemed to be laughing at her. Wiping away her tears, Bo Bo snatched the bag from his hands and started to walk away. Her pride has been beaten up enough for one day and she couldn`t handle another beating from Wai Sun`s teasing. She might be a love-sick fool, but she was not going to stand around and let a chauvinistic pig ridicule her.

"Miss Bo Bo, is that what a hero gets for rescuing a damsel in distress?" Wai Sun laughed, jogging alongside of her. His rich laughter rang through her ears."I deserve a reward for my services."

"Services?"Bo Bo cried, stopping to glare at him in disbelief."I never asked you to help me.I never wanted your services. I wouldn`t want to bother a hero like you to tend to my needs, would I?" She couldn`t believe that he had the nerve to demand a reward from her. Who did he think he was? He was just a pathetic, useless rich boy and she...Bo Bo felt a constriction in her heart...she was in love with him and didn`t have a clue how to tell him so.

"Alright,no service charges,"Wai Sun`s eyes shone gleefully at her obvious discomfort. She looked so adorable with her eyes flahsing at him in fury that he felt a warm feeling in his heart that he had never felt before. Suddenly, buried in the depths of those large eyes that were so angry at him,Wai Sun saw the innocence, frusteration and sadness within her heart. She was angry at herself,Wai Sun realized, and she had something that she wanted to say to him but did not know how. She had the same look in her eyes so similar to Cho Fai`s eyes whenever he spoke of A Dee. What was the meaning of that look?

"I`m sorry,Bo Bo,"he said, growing serious," I was just teasing you. Here, let me carry the bag for you." He made an attempt to reach out to carry the bag for her and for a brief moment their hands touched. Her skin was soft as silk and Wai Sun glanced up to see Bo Bo stare at him in wonder and anticipation. He cleared his thoat self-consciously and the spell was broken.

"I..I have to get back to my father`s office,"she whispered, her face crumbling with disappointment. She had to get home,to get away from Wai Sun.Being so near him and having him touch her had made her heart race a mile a minute. Suddenly, when he touched her hand, she didn`t want him to leave. She wanted him to kiss her,to hold her and make promises of everlasting love to her. But,her yearnings for him were useless,of course. Why did she crave his love so much that it made her heart ache to know that he would never be hers?"My house isn`t far from here and I can walk. Um..thank you again for recuing my bag. My father needs these herbs to make medicine for his heart patients."

Wai Sun looked down at her and he felt sadness at the mention of her leaving. He didn`t know why he felt the way he did. Wasn`t Miss Bo Bo the strange and idiotic girl who had fought with him until he was about to strangle her at the apple stand just days ago? Wai Sun had many women at his beck and call prettier and more beautiful than Bo Bo,but those eyes...those large, innocent eyes that had looked at him with such unfulfilled yearning haunted him. Those eyes seemed to look deep into his soul and whispered to him a secret that he didn`t understand.

"Wait, please!"He cried out,his voice sounding desperate."I...um..have a friend who is battling with a heart condition. Could I...may I walk you home? That is,I`d like to speak to your father about my friend`s condition,if you wouldn`t mind?"

Mind? Bo Bo screamed to herself with pleasure. Of course she wouldn`t mine! Only in her wildest dreams did she think that the handsomest man she had ever met such as Yang Wai Sun would request to walk her home! Maybe it was fate that had her bag stolen so that Wai Sun could come to her rescue. Her knight in shining armour was at her side at last...

Wai Sun didn`t know why he was being so shy about being near a girl, but he knew that he didn`t want to leave her. Bo Bo had no experience with men,he knew, unlike all the women that he usually walked home with. Those women always complained about being alone, about being too weak to defend themselves so that they would need a strong man like him to protect them. But,Bo Bo had never asked him to escort her home. Her vulnerability and her sweet innocence was charming and he found himself wishing that he could wrap his arms around her. Wai Sun looked into her eyes and saw her answer in the way those breathtaking eyes danced with joy. They walked to her home without speaking, communicating silently with an occassional tender smie at each other.

********

Fook Tin Yau had arrived in Hongkong with fury and vegenace in his heart. He had hired many spies to make sure that Leung Chi Nam was indeed dead. But,sure enough, his greatest enemey was still alive. Tin Yau had thought it was impossible that Chi Nam was still alive after he and that wretched servant girl had fallen into the river. Chi Nam had been injured,Tin Yau made sure of it,but now news came for him indicating that Chi Nam was still breathing and very much real.

For all the suffering that the Leung family had cause his family,Chi Nam had to die. Once upon a time,Tin Yau and Chi Nam were each other`s shadows. They would laugh together, cry together. No two friends could be closer to one another. But then,Chi Nam`s father had encouraged Tin Yau`s father to invest in a stock market deal that crashed four months later. The Fook family estate was in ruins and the Leung family did not even lift a finger to help. Sure,Chi Nam was sympathetic, promising never to abandon him and that his family would do anything possible to make sure that the Fook family would be taken care of. Yes,his family was taken care of,Tin Yau remembered bitterly. He will forever remember that night. Tin Yau and Chi Nam had walked home together, with Chi Nam telling him not to worry about anything. Tin Yau had gone to sleep with hope in his heart. But,Chi Nam`s father had hired two assassins to break into what was left of his home that fateful night to murder his parents and his younger brother in cold blood. It was by God`s gracious mercy that Tin Yau was not killed along with his family. In the confusion, when the assassins had shot his younger brother,he had been injured in the arm. When his brother was shot, his face twisted in terror, his brother`s dead body fell on top of Tin Yau. The assassins had left soon after the deed had been done, and Tin Yau was left alone to avenge his family`s honour and death.

Until this day,Tin Yau still kept the piece of bloodied fabric that was part of his younger brother`s shirt to remind himself of what must be done. He was now part of the mofia in Hongkong, doing illegal drug deals and murdering enemies for the mob to keep his stomach full. If it wasn`t for the boss of the mofia,Tin Yau would be long dead. What a long road he has walked upon, but it wasn`t over. He still had Chi Nam`s death to accomplish. Chi Nam`s father was too difficult to kill because of all the bodyguards and the wealth that surrounds the old tyrant. But,Chi Nam,the foolish, arrogant young man who had once been his dearest friend, would be easier to kill than swatting a fly.

Tin Yau smiled to himself as he thought of Chi Nam`s blood pouring like a waterfall onto his hands. His spies have told him that Chi Nam was still living at home in Hongkong and that his father was away on business trip months at a time. Chi Nam was also seemed to be involved with a girl named Fong Fong and that servant girl named A Dee. Well, the playboy should have his fun now because time was running out.Wouldn`t it be a sight for Chi Nam to see the two women in his life slayed before his eyes? Tin Yau laughed aloud because he knew Chi Nam inside and out. Twenty years of friendship had made Tin Yau know Chi Nam more than Chi Nam knew himself. No doubt Chi Nam would feel so guilty about the innocent deaths of his lovers that he would kill himself. Suicide in the name of love. How so very interesting. And,Tin Yau knew that he would enjoy every minute of his enemy`s agony. Ah,revenge was so sweet and it would be his soon.Very, very soon.

In the hotel room

Chi-Nam could not get any sleep since he made a big mistake to A-dee, he felt like killing himself for making such a bad joke to her, if he only knew what the results were, he would not gave done what he did and now his conscious was rackiing on him and he was even more hurt. When he tried to close his eyes A-dee's picture was appeared, seemed like she stood in front of him. He remembered every details of her, A-dee was the only one girl who did not ask him for the expensive gifts or money. A-dee was different than the other girls in his life, she wore simple clothes and no make up but her natural beauty still appeared. He smiled when he thought about the first day he met her, she got shot and the fate brought them together. The day when he held her when she tripped and he caught her at Doctor Lee's house. The day that he was defeated by Master Chan's student, A-dee was the only one who came to help him and he held her hand when he knew that she was sad by Master Chan's past life. Chi-nam closed his eyes, remembered the warm and sweet feeling in his heart when he had A-dee in his arms, her body was tinny and soft. Chi-nam stopped his smile, opened his eyes, he now realised that A-dee was very important to his life, he was so much to her, he could not loose her. But what would he do? He could not face her because he was so scared that she would never talk to him again. Chi-nam walked to the windows, he whispered to himself that he needed only one chance, and his only hope was A-dee would forgive him.

Only if Chi-nam had a sixth sense, he would be able to see A-dee could not sleep too. Too many things were in her mind. A-dee thought about Cho-fai and his bad health, she, Wai-sun and Cho-fai grew up together. Cho-fai always stayed besides her, they shared all things together and he became the important part in her life. She could not think about the day Cho-Fai would leave her. Her thought turned to Chi-nam, again A-dee groaned to herself, she tried very hard to stop thinking about him but he always appeared in her mind. Her heart was still hurt, she blamed herself as being a fool. She had lot of emotion to Chi-nam which was different to Cho-fai, being with Cho-fai she was calm while Chi-nam could make her angry and smile in the same time. She remembered when he held her because she was tripped, his arms was very warm and protective. Deep inside she could not deny the happiness during the time she spent with Chi-nam, it was bitter and sweet she hated him but still cared about him. A-dee kept thinking until very late night and then she fell asleep.

SHANGHAI

There was a big house and at the luxury sitting room, there were two men were talking, one was old but his powerful personality appeared, one was young and he was listening to the old man carefully.

Leung Yong: Chi-zen, how long has Chi-nam been in Hong Kong?

Chi-zen : About 3 months, sir.

Leung Yong (took a sigh): I wrote him several letters but he never writes back to me. The wedding plan has already been set up except something is missing, him.

Leung Yong stopped talking, he looked forward and then changed the subject "Chi-zen, have you found someone special yet?

Chi-zen : No, sir.

Leung Yong: Don’t be shy, if you find the right person be brave and tell her. (stopped and thought about his past life) Like me, Chi-nam's mother was the sweetest person I've ever met. She died so soon, after she died I never had any woman to replace her. I sent Chi-nam to boarding school and spent my time to my businesses. I never came close to him but all I do, it's for him. The only one thing I could do is want him to be happy, that's why I found a nice, sweet girl like Lin Zia Hua for him.

Chi-zen : Chi-nam loves you sir, one day he will understand you.

Leung Yong: Chi-zen, can you go to Hong Kong to get Chi-nam back for me?

Chi-zen : With my pleasure, sir.

Leung Yong : I sent you to Hong Kong this time is not only to take Chi-nam back but I need you to do something that is very important.

Chi-zen said nothing but concentrated to listen what his boss was going to say.

Leung Yong : I need you to find two men for me.

Chi-zen : Who are they, sir?

Leung Yong: 18 years ago, when Chi-nam was young, I covered myself as a spy in Japanese Army. Once I was injured and rescued by two me who were spies too. We then became very good and close friends. In the last operation, I was caught by a Japanese solider, but I was able to escape. I suspected that one of them betrayed me. My people told me that they are now in Hong Kong, unfortunately there's not much details. It will be hard for you to find out.

Chi-zen : I will try my best, sir.

Leung Yong (smiled) : One man is very good in martial arts and has leadership personality, it's quite obvious and the other one is very smart. (patted Chi-zen's shoulder) Now go home and pack your belongings. Remember be careful and do not risk your life.

HONG KONG

At the restaurant Chi-nam was waiting for Fong Fong, she went to talk to A-dee the other day. Chi-nam was very worried about the answer then he saw Fong Fong walking to him.

Fong Fong (sat and looked at his worried face, then she took a sigh) : Sorry, Chi-nam, A-dee is still angry at you.

Chi-nam was very desperate, he wished miracle would happened but now it was hopeless. Fong Fong looked at him, she finally said "Why don't you go to see her and give her your apology?"

Chi-nam : I cannot face her, I am afraid she will not talk to me anymore.

Fong Fong: Don’t be such a coward. A-dee is a nice girl, I will come with you.

Chi-nam was silent ……

Chi-Nam sits at his spacious house with a big tray of food in front of him but he doesn`t touch anything. His mind drifts away to a sweet servant girl he had known. Chi-Nam is lonely and sad becuase it had been so long since he has spoken or even seen A-Dee. Her smile and the way they had fun together follows him wherever he goes and he can`t foget her. The house is too empty without his father but he was use to loneliness by now, then he met A-Dee and she changed everything.

Servant: Young Master Chi-Nam,eat something. You haven`t eaten or said anything in so long. I`m worried.

Chi-Nam:I don`t want anything,I`m going outside for a while. Don`t worry.(starts to take his jaket and leave)

Servant: There is a message from your father,do you want me to bring it to you to see?

Chi-Nam: No I want to leave. I`ll be home late.

Servant: But..but... (Chi-Nam has already left and bangs the door behind him).

Meanwhile,

A-Dee and Cho-Fai are walking by the park and are watching some kites fly by. A-Dee loves kites and Cho-Fai buys one for her so that she can play but she gives it to a little kid who didn`t have enough money to buy one. A-Dee is supporting Cho-Fai because she knows that he isn`t feeling too good and she is worried about him.

Cho-Fai: (looking tired and sick) It has been so long since we walk like this together, right? I miss those days when Wai-sun and you and I were still kids and we played together. We had so much fun,I just wish I had that kind of energy again.

A-Dee:(looking worried and scared at Cho-Fai) Don`t say those things,we can still have fun again. Don`t try to hide anything from me Cho-fai. If your not feeling good then we`ll go home, okay? I`ll take you to a doctor right now.

Cho-fai: (smiling softly) You know that I`m not a normal healty person A-Dee. I was never like you and Wai-sun. You both have bright futures ahead,I don`t. I don`t wantto feel sorry for myself,I`m thankful that you are here by my side.

A-Dee: (looks away and suddenly wishing that Chi-nam could say those things to her)Cho-fai don`t make me sad. I can`t lose the best brother in the world like you. I will die without you I really will.

Cho-fai: (takes her hand in his) You are a fighter A-Dee and you`re strong, not like me. If one day I do leave then you will go on with your life. You will marry and have kids and have a good life. I will be smiling and waiting for you in Heaven forever A-Dee. Just think of me in your memory and that`s enough.

A-Dee (crying now) No no! Don`t you dare give up hope now. You have been sick before Cho-fai and you`ve always gotten right back up on your feet. You have your mother and me and Wai-sun and a brilliant future ahead of you and you will have a wife and kids one day. Don`t leave us please Cho-fai!

Cho-fai:(wipes away A-Dee`s tears gently and smiles his smile) I have beeen to a doctor last month and it`s bad news about my heart. There`s nothing anyone can do now,it`s just a matter of time before...before I can see my father in Heaven so that I can say sorry to him for making a mess out of my family business. I`m not sad just very tired because I`ve been fighting with this heart disease for too long and now my body wants to rest.

A-Dee (crying furiously): I dont beleive you,why didn`t you tell anyone before? There has to be some other way Cho-fai,I`ll tell Wai-sun to find you the best doctors, the best medicine, the best of everything. There is always hope you know. You have friends who love you so how can you just give up on your life like that? Why? (she is so angry that she is crying and yelling at Cho-fai so loud that the kids by the park begins to look at her weird).

Cho-fai (looking old and beaten):I accept my fate since I was little. I couldn`t go to school, couldn`t know karate, couldn`t do anything that would make me exhausted cause of my damage to my heart.I never had a normal life like you and Wai-sun but I didn`t mind because I loved being with you two and watching you two lead then normal life I couldn`t have. please don`t be angry A-Dee,I want you to be at peace with me and accept my heart condition. I used to wish that I could be normal but now I know that that wasn`t meant to be,I will always be sick so I`m not hiding from it anymore and I don`t want you to either. Support my wishes please.

A-Dee (crying so hard that her whole body shakes with fear and sadness) Cho-fai no,don`t leave me. I need you more thaan you know. I will be here for you always whenever you want.I won`t leave you (she reaches out to give him a hug and holds Cho-fai so tight hoping that she won`t lose her dearest friend).

Farawhile near trees and bushes,Chi-nam sees A-dee hugging and crying on another man`s shirt and he turns away sadly. he recognized the guy as a friend of A-dee`s and he sees her tears and how much she cares for the guy by how tightly she holds him. Chi-nam is angry that he would let A-dee go love another guy and he misses her so much that he wants to die.

AT THE PARK:

Cho-fai nearly faints at the tightness that A-dee holds him and he knows that he has to get home before he faints in her arms which would be so embarassing for him. He doesn`t wantt A-dee to know that his heart is hurting and he breaks away from her.

Cho-fai:(gasping for breath) I`m tired now so I must go.

A-dee: (wiping away her tears) I`ll take you home and I`ll get you some medicine from my friend Bo Bo to make you feel better. Let`s leave now.

Cho-fai (giving a weak smile to not let her know how much he hurts):No no I can get home by myself. You stay here and watch the kites...(he stops talking when he sees Chi-nam behind the bushes and looks at A-dee) I think your friend has been watching us,go and talk with him for a while. I can get home.

A-dee follows Cho-fai`s look and sees Chi-nam and she is so surprised that she gasps. She hasn`t seen Chi-nam in so long and missed him so much,it was so weird now that he was right there in the park with her.

A-dee: (looking worried at Cho-fai becuase she knew that she culdn`t leave him) I`ll talk to him later,we have to get you in bed now (But,Cho-fai was already walking towards Chi-nam and A-dee,so embarrassed, had to follow)

Chi-nam (looking ashamed and sad when he sees A-dee and her pale-looking,thin friend walking towards him and he wants to run but his heart tells him to stay)

Cho-fai:Hi you`re A-dee`s friend. We`ve met before. You and her can talk becuase I must go now. (he is talking faast because Cho-fai doesn`t know how long he can handle the pain before he collapses andhe knows that he must get away from A-dee. He doesn`t want her pity).

A-dee (watching worried as Cho-fai leaves and calls out):Becarful Cho-fai. Wai-sun and I will visit you tonight!

Chi-nam: (shyly) You look good A-dee,it has been a while.

A-Dee:(still shaken from Cho-fai`s sickness) Yes I know,it`s been a while. How are you?

Chi-nam:Fine,but I..um (he pauses not knowing how to say his feelings to her) I miss you a lot A-dee.

A-dee(stares at Chi-nam in surprise and delight): Really you do? me too,I`ve missed you too,Chi-nam.

Chi-nam (frusterated):I saw you with Cho-fai and you were hugging him and holding him and crying. I am so sad and jealous and angry. A-dee don`t leave me.

A-dee:(so surprised that she couldn`t speak becuaase she wanted Chi-nam to say those things to her but this was not a dream)

Chi-nam: (speaking softly) I`ve loved you from the moment I saw you becuase you were everything I want in a woman. You are smart, funny and you have such a good heart and soul. You make me feel complete, like I can conquer anything. I love you A-dee but now I`ve realize that. You and Cho-fai...well,I understand...

A-dee: (strugling to tell Chi-nam her feelings) No Cho-fai and I are just brother and sister. He is not doing well and I comfort him. I love him but not like a woman loves a man. Not like...like how I love you.

Chi-nam (feeling so happy to hear those words from A-dee that he has been dreaming): Really you mean that? Oh I can`t believe it,that you have feelings for me too. A-dee you have made me the happiest man alive do you know that? I will die for you,do anything for you.

Chi-nam lifts A-dee in his arms and twirls her around while she hugs him and laughs. It was so good to let the truth finally come out because Chi-nam has waited for her love so long and so lonely without her in his life. Finally he puts her down and they kiss the most sweetest kiss in the world. A-dee is mourning for her beloved Cho-fai but in Chi-nam`s arms she is safe and happy and nothing can ruin this special moment for her.

Chi-nam (his eyes full of love) I love you A-dee,now and forever.

Chi-nam was waken up by a loud bang from the kitchen of his house just in time to realize that all of what happened in the park was just in his dream. He understood that A-dee would never fell in love with him after what he had done to her. Or at least, she wouldn't fell for him that easily.

"What am I to do?", said him,"How am I going to make up to A-dee?"

Holding his face with his big hands, Chi-nam almost cried thinking what if what was in his dream will come true. What if one day he sees A-dee hugging another man? He is not sure how he's going to handle the situation. Oh, how he hates A-dee now. Even in the dream, he doesn't have a mandatory place in her heart. Why did she have to divide her heart for two men?

Suddenly became so brave, Chi-nam decided to go tell A-Dee how he felt about her. He stepped down the bed and got himself prepared.

Just before he reached A-Dee's house, he saw A-Dee, Wei Sun and Cho-fei together looking peacefully happy together. He felt ashamed. He never brougth that kind of happiness to A-Dee before. Wouldn't he love her enough to let her be with another man because of whom A-Dee would be happier?

With a little guilt, he was about to turn just to hear A-Dee shouted, "No, Cho-fei. I don't allow you to give up your life. Not at this time when I need you the most."

He turned back and saw Cho-fei with a reluctant smile on his pale face weakly leaning in A-Dee and Wei Sun's hands. His eyes were half close. Both A-Dee and Wei Sun were crying.

Chi-nam ran to them and offered some help. He quickly got Cho-fei in his arms and shouted to the two friends," He needs to go to see a doctor now. You two crazy people, crying doesn't help." Then started to run.

[Wai-sun, A-dee, Chi-nam were rushing to Doctor Yang WEi-leung's house while Chi-nam was carrying Cho-fai. They finally reached the Doctor's house barging into the house]

Bo bo was there shocked w/ so many people rushing into her house and seeing Chi-nam carry Cho-fai's limp body-

Bo-bo: What happened? Is everything ok?

Chi-nam: We must let a doctor see Cho-fai, he is very sick!

Bo-bo: Hold on, I will get my father!

Chi-nam: Hurry!

[Doctor Yang quickly rushed in the room and told Chi-nam to bring Cho-fai to a room. Doctor Yang told everyone to leave the room while he looked at Cho-fai. Everyone was worried, even Chi-nam who didn't know Cho-fai that well. A-dee was sitting there w/ a worried look on her face and Wai-sun walking back and forth in the room]

Bo-bo: Calm down everybody, everything will turn out ok. (She looked worried too,but tried to look as calm as possible)

Wai-sun: Yes,everything will be ok, everything will be ok...

[A-dee said nothing, just sat there in daze]

[Chi-nam was sitting there looking at everyone's faces and hoping someone would break the silence. He felt uncomfortable]

Wai-sun: I'm going outside to get some fresh air.

(He quickly left the room , opened the door and left)

Bo-bo: Umm, I better go outside to see if he is ok.

(bo-bo left too, leaving only Chi-nam and A-dee there. A-dee still sitting and doing nothing, and Chi-nam looking at A-dee hoping she would say something)

[Outside the room, Wai-sun was staring at the moon and sky. Bo-bo looked at Wai-sun, worried over him. ]

Bo-bo: Are you ok?

(wai-sun didn't answer for a moment)

Wai-sun: (sigh)I can't beleive everything happened so fast!

(Wai-sun turned and looked at Bo-bo, and put on a faint smile)

Wai-sun: Well, how have you been?

Bo-bo: (surprised) Me?I suppose I have been doing ok, I, I,umm..

Wai-sun: Yes?

Bo-bo: Last time, you know the time when you gave me my money back from the robber?

Wai-sun: Yes,what about it?

Bo-bo: I'm, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be so rude, I mean, I didn't even say thank you. I was hoping to see you again, to say thank you, but never really got a chance to..

Wai-sun: Oh that, no problem.

(there was silence again)

Bo-bo: (looked at Wai-sun's face intently)I never meant always to be mean to you, I'm just always that way to people, I'm ,I'm

Wai-sun: (smiling)You're weird?

Bo-bo: (looked angry, but then smiled) I guess you could say that.

Wai-sun: I know I may be hard to get along with too, and I suppose I must apoligize for that too.

Bo-bo: (jokingly) Suppose? You suppose?

Wai-sun: Ok wrong words but

[Before he could finish talking, A-dee opened the door yelled at Wai-sun and Bo-bo]

A-dee: The doctor is out,we can see Cho-fai now!

[Wai-sun and Bo-bo walked into the room where Doctor Yang was. Doctor Yang explained to them what had happened to Cho-fai]

Doctor Yang: Cho-fai, is,well... He will be fine for now, but I must say he isn't getting any better, but worse. All I can tell you is to not say anything harsh that may surprise him. His heart cannot take it.

A-dee: (with a worreid look on her face) Can we see him now?

[Doctor Yang nodded his head and A-dee rushed into the room. A-dee could see Cho-fai lying there with a more paler face than usualy and saw him sweating and and had blue lips. A-dee sat beside him and held his hands.Chi-nam looked at A-dee holding Cho-fai's hand. He felt his heart sink a little, with a sad look on his face. He felt that he would have no chance with A-dee anymore]

[Doctor Yang came in the room telling everybody to leave to let Cho-fai rest. A-dee hesitated and finally let go of Cho-fai's hand. They all left the room and after a moment or two, A-dee finally spoke and looked at Chi-nam]

A-dee: (with a tired look on her face) I almost forgot to say thank you, thank you for bringing Cho-fai here. There's nothing more you can do here, you might as well go home. Thank you again.

Chi-nam: (looked at A-dee) I um, are you sure you don't need anything more I can help with? I can stay as long as possible.

[A-dee shook her head tiredly . Chi-nam did not want to go and leave A-dee, he didn't really want to leave Cho-fai and A-dee alone, but left anyways, opening the door and looking at A-dee one last time]

A-dee: Doctor Yang, I would like to stay here and be beside Cho-fai, I don't want to leave him.

Doctor Yang: Are you sure? You look quite tired, you should go home and rest.

A-dee: No, don't worry I'm fine, I just want to be with him to see that he is ok.

Doctor Yang: Very well then. Bo-bo go get some blankets for A-dee.

Bo-bo: Yes father.

Wai-sun: I will go home and tell father what is going on or he will be worried where we went. I will come here early tomorrow morning to see Cho-fai.

[Wai-sun left and A-dee went back to Cho-fai's room.A-dee looked at Cho-fai's face, knowing that she could help but didn't know how ,which teared her apart inside]

A-dee: (having a tear trickle down her face) What do you want me to do??What?

[A-dee sat there the whole night beside him, thinking and thinking. When the sun came out, A-dee was still there beside Cho-fai knowing what she had to do to save Cho-fai's life. She would be beside him forever, she wouldn't let him get sick again, she would be beside him wherever he went. Then she thought of Chi-nam.She didnt' know what to think of him. She knew deep down inside, she would never be able to forget him. Was he the one she truly loved? She knew the truth and the real answer. Yes, Chi-nam was the one she loved, but what about Cho-fai?She couldn't just leave Cho-fai. Before she could think more, Bo-bo came quietly into the room]

Bo-Bo: A-dee!Have you even slept once in the night?

A-dee shook her head

Bo-bo: Here, come into the room, I made some congee.

[Out in the living room ,A-dee tried to eat, but she couldn't, she wasn't hungry and she had too many things to think about]

Bo-bo: A-dee,you must eat something or else you might get sick too! Here, let me take you out into the air. Let's go shopping to get your mind off of so many thing.

A-dee: But I don't feel like shopping, I can't leave Cho-fai, he might wake up and...

Bo-bo: A-dee,whetehre you like it or not, we're going out!

[Out in the streets, Bo-bo was trying to look all happy and bargaining w/ the vendors while A-dee paid no attention to anything and just walked straight forward. She wasn't paying any attention that she didn't notice the man in front of him, and accidentally bumped into him. His suitcase fell, having papers fall everywhere]

A-dee: (stooped down to pick up the papers for him) I'm sorry! I didnt' mean to bump into you!

Chi-zen: No it's fine. Thank you

[Before A-dee could say anything to him, he quickly left and fled off into the crowds]

Bo-bO: Is everything ok? What happened again?

A-dee: Oh nothing, I just bumped into someone. (wondering to herself what rush that man might have)

[While she wondering and walking again, she saw Fong Fong talking with a vendor on the streets holding some carrots. A-dee rushed to her, hoping to get her attention]

A-dee: Fong fong, good morning!nice to see you!

Fong fong: (surprised that A-dee was talking to her after the last time they saw each other) Hi, how are you? (turned looking at Bo-bo)and you are?

A-dee: Oh,i'm sorry I forgot to introduce. This here is Bo-bo. Bo-bo,this is Fong Fong.

(they both smiled each other nodding their heads)

Bo-bo: Why don't we all go out to get something to eat?And this time, A-dee, you WILL eat!

AT DOCTOR YANG'S HOUSE

[Wai-sun knocked at the door and opened it. ]

Wai-sun: Is anyeone here?hello?

(Doctor Yang came into the living room)

Doctor Yang: Well good morning!

Wai-sun: Good morning to you too! Where is everybody?

Doctor Yang: Bo-bo took A-dee out to shopping to get her mind off of things. If you quickly go,you might be able to catch up with them.

Wai-sun: Oh ok, I want to take a look at Cho-fai first then catch up w/ them.

[Wai-sun went to look at Cho-fai, and saw his friend rest peacefully. He then quickly rushed off to the streets hoping to meet up with A-dee and Bo-bo. He was about give up looking for them when he saw them in a restaurant with Bo-bo laughing and A-dee sitting there and another girl he did not know. Wai-sun walked into the restaurant walking to them]

Wai-sun: Well ,well, well, what do we have here?

Bo-bo: (surpirsed to see him) Oh,well good morning Wai-sun!I didn't expect to see you!

Wai-sun: Would you mind if i joined in?

Everybody shook their heads and smiled at him

[wai-sun then looked at Fong Fong, and Fong Fong looked a little awkward having someone staring at her. A-dee seeing this, introduced them. Wai-sun smiled at her and shook hands with her. Fong Fong was took back by Wai-sun's good look and physical feature. She then found that she was staring at him]

Fong Fong didn't know why this man named Yang Wai Sun impressed her so much and she felt foolish. He was easily the most handsomest man she had ever met,but there was something unique about the way he spoke and moved. There was an air of elegance about him and his eyes were kind, causing her heart to race madly.

"Sit down,Wai Sun," A Dee said and moved over so that Wai Sun could sit in the chair beside her. She looked pale and tired from worry about Cho Fai and she felt greatful for the company of her friends. "Have something to eat. I'm going to leave soon since I want to check on Cho Fai. I don't want him waking up to have no one there."

"Don't worry," Bo Bo reassured her with a soft smile,"

My father will be there to make sure that your friend is alright. Eat,A Dee,or you won't have the strength to comfort Cho Fai."

Wai Sun looked uncomfortable at the mention of illness and his friend's condition and turned to look at Bo Bo straight in the face. "Are you sure that Cho Fai is out of danger?"he cried, frusterated. He knew that he shouldn't take his anger out on Bo Bo,but he felt so helpless. He had to help his friend and there had to be a doctor out there that could save Cho Fai's life. "Your father isn't just saying that Cho Fai is okay to make us not worry?"

Bo Bo felt his distress and reached out to gently touch his hand. "My father isn't God,Wai Sun,"she said softly, her eyes shining with understanding."He can heal wounds but he can't save one's life if it wasn't meant to be that way. Cho Fai is sick, and that's the true fact. My father will help him as best as he can,but you can't give up hope. There will always be hope and Cho Fai needs your support and your courage to help him continue on with his illness."

Wai Sun bowed his head in shame at his anger and gave her hand a squeeze in silent thanks.

Meanwhile, across the table,Fong Fong felt a twinge in her heart and looked away. It was obvious that Bo Bo and Wai Sun are a couple, she told herself, and felt so sad with dispair that she was baffled at her feelings. Why did she feel so uncomfortable at the warm scene with Bo Bo and Wai Sun? She had just only met Yang Wai Sun only minutes ago. There was no logical explaination why his interest in another girl should bother her so much. But it did,Fong Fong admitted, and that worried her the most.

"Bo Bo,what should we do?" A Dee cried out,her eyes filling with tears. She felt so tired and so alone with her grief that all she wanted to do was sleep and forget that her greatest friend would one day leave her. But,of course, she couldn't forget. Cho Fai would be her main concern in life, and she vowed to always be there whenever he needed her."How can Wai Sun and I help him deal with this? Is Cho Fai going to die? He told me in the park yesterday that he wasn't doing well and that his doctor told him that there was nothing anyone can do now."

"He did?"Wai Sun shouted, shocked that Cho Fai would keep the poor condition of his health from him. But,then again,Cho Fai was not the person to want his friends to worry about him. It was without a doubt in Wai Sun's mind that Cho Fai was in pain for months and months now and didn't tell anyone. It was only the princess of his dreams,A Dee,did he reveal his secret to. "Then..then that means that Cho Fai is truly sick this time." Wai Sun buried in head in his hands in disbelief and horror.

"No,you mustn't overreact like this!" Bo Bo cried desperately."It's never too late for anything. My father and I...all of us...will do everything in our power to help Cho Fai. You can't give up hope now, because Cho Fai has already given up.Don't you see? We all must be strong and fight this terrible illness with Cho Fai."

She looked around the table saw the fear and sadness in the eyes of A Dee and Wai Sun. She glanced over at poor Fong Fong, whom she had just met,and saw the question and confusion in the girl's eyes. Fong Fong didn't even know who Cho Fai was,but pity and sorrow shone in her eyes, and Bo Bo knew that she was a good person. Bo Bo knew that she had to convince A Dee and especially Wai Sun not to give up on their friend one way or another because hope was Cho Fai's only chance at defeating his illness.

*******

The sunlight drifted through the windows and the rays fell on Cho Fai's face, causing him to stir. He slowly opened his eyes to strange surroundings, but everything was so blurry that he had to hold his head still until the dizziness past and it was only then that he could open his eyes again. Where am I? he wondered, and then he remembered being at the park with A Dee and feeling the pain in his heart. After that,he didn't remember much of anything else. There were tears,A Dee's tears,he thought, and then there was only darkness. He tried to sit up,lifting himself up with his arms, but he found that he had no strength for movement. The whole room began to spit again and Cho Fai gasped for air. It was getting so difficult to breathe and he choked on the air as though it were poison. His heart constricted and he cried out in pain, although no sound came out of his mouth. He rolled over the bed, grabbing his shirt in desperation, and gagged and gasped for something to keep him from suffocating. He felt like he was dying and his fear paralyzed him.

Suddenly,he felt strong hands help him into a sitting position and then he felt strong thumps on his back. One thump, two and three. Then a gentle voice commanded,"Breathe easy now,slowly..." and slowly,Cho Fai's lungs cleared and the air rushed in,giving his body oxygen and life. He could breathe again without the pain and he closed his eyes in exhaustion. His heart attack had drained him out and he had no strength left in him to open his eyes to thank the person who had saved him. He felt the hands lay his head on the pillow and he felt the blanket being pulled over his body to keep him from getting cold. Then,Cho Fai drifted back into the darkness of unconsciousness.

*****

Chi Nam watched with horror as Cho Fai choked and before he could do anything,Bo Bo's father was rushing into the room and applying medical techiniques to help him. Chi Nam had just dropped over to ask about Cho Fai's condition but he was not prepared to see A Dee's friend suffocating and in such great pain that tears almost came to his eyes just witnessing the scene. Cho Fai was dying,Chi Nam knew, despite what anyone said. He didn't know Cho Fai very well, but he was another human being with a future and family and friends. Life was something Chi Nam never thought of as something precious, but seeing Cho Fai struggle for air in front of his eyes,he knew how fortunate he was so be able to take a breath of air without pain and suffering.

The doctor seemed to take forever to help Cho Fai,but finally,he was asleep and his eyes closed in exhaustion. Sweat clung to his face and hair and even in the light of the day,Cho Fai's pale face looked like death on the whiteness of the pillow. He was so thin that his face looked skeletal and as he breathed laborously,Chi Nam almost fainted with relief to see Cho Fai's chest rising up and down as he rested.

"Doctor..."Chi Nam cried out, starting towards the room but the doctor motioned him not to enter and he followed the doctor out into the living room. "Is he alright now?"Chi Nam demanded, fearful."What just happened there?"

The doctor's face was tired,as though he had seen too many ill patients whom he could not save in his lifetime. But,he had saved Cho Fai,but he was close to losing him,so very close. "He just had a heart attack,"the doctor said softly, and shook his head in defeat."It was very lucky that I was in my office when it happened or Cho fai might be in a coma right now."

"Coma?"Chi Nam echoed."But,why? I know that his condition was serious but...I didn't know that it was this serious."

He turned to look directly at the doctor for an answer."Tell me the truth, sir. Cho Fai is dying, isn't he?"

The doctor turned away but Chi Nam wouldn't let him go on without knowing the truth. But,then again, the truth was evident in the way Cho Fai had choked and the pain that was so real in his damaged heart. Cho Fai was dying,Chi Nam knew. Out of the corner of his eyes,he saw Bo Bo's father nod with grief and he ran his hand through his hair in desperation. He glanced in the room at the still pale figure lying on the bed and felt so helpless. His money, his wealth, nothing was going to save Cho Fai's life. How was he going to tell A Dee?

In the 1930s, Hong Kong was divided into 8 Territories. Each Territory was controlled by a Big Brother. Even though each Big Brother controlled a portion of Hong Kong, Hong Kong was not evenly divided up between these "Brothers". The Head Boss of the Mafia in Hong Kong was called Boss Sum Sum, who was quite elderly compared to the other younger Big Brothers. He was the head boss, as he controlled over a third of Hong Kong. The other Big Brothers were called 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th, their names indicated how much land each of them controlled, ie Boss 8 controlled the smallest piece of land in Hong Kong (I haven't been able to think of names for these Bosses as yet, so feel free to name them).

In the Underword Mafia, each Boss engaged in all illegal and immoral activies. eg they set up illegal gambling houses, they were dealers in drugs and weapons, they owned Prostitute houses . . .

One day on a rainy stormy night, as Boss Sum Sum got out of his car to enter into a builing which was the annual meeting place of all the "Mafia Big Bosses" in Hong Kong. He was only accompanied by two bodyguards. More did not accompany him as it had been decided by the "Big Bosses" that when they each attended this meeting, only two bodyguards were allowed to accompany each Big Boss and that from the moment they entered the building and left it, no Big Boss would get hurt as this be a truce period (there would be no fighting between the parties to try and kill a Big Brother, to grab for more land).

However unbeknown to Boss Sum Sum, the other smaller bosses had decided to join forces to KILL him!!! Even though they each controlled a piece of Hong Kong they were not satisfied with their Territory. They were ambitious and wanted more!!! (who is not ambitious?)

On that rainy stormy night, as Boss Sum Sum was about to enter the building, a large bomb suddenly exploded from where the entrance to the building was. He had been saved by mere seconds as one of his guards had noticed something suspicious about the building and pulled Boss Sum Sum back before he could enter the building.

His bodyguards and Boss Sum Sum then immediately began to run for safety away from the Building. Boss Sum Sum realised that the other 7 Big Brothers of Hong Kong had combined forces to KILL him!!! He also knew that he was now too old to be a "Big Brother". In his day and age (when he was younger) whenever the Big Brothers agreed to something they never went back on their words, they never broke their promises, they lived by a code of honour. However, this new generation of younger Big Brothers did not live by a code of honour!!!

Boss Sum Sum and his bodyguards was able to escape from the building after the bomb but all the killers were looking for them everywhere. They were fighting, a lot of bullets flying everywhere, one of his bodyguard was injured but some killers had been killed. Boss Sum Sum and his bodyguards ran to a small house, he kicked the door until it was opened and rushed in. The house’s owner was Fook Tin Yau!

Tin Yau was very frightened, before he knew what was going on Boss Sum Sum pointed the gun to his head and said “Quiet or I will blow your head off!” Tin Yau was shocked then there was someone banging on the door and then a rough voice asked “Anybody home, open the door!”. Boss Sum Sum said “You, open the door" (pointing at the door with his gun). Tell the people outside that you're the only one living here only you live here. Don’t play any tricks!”. Slowly, Tin Yau opened the door, he saw group of people with guns in their hands “Sir, ah……?” One tall man asked “Did you see three men come this way? one of them is injured." Tin Yau still could not find his voice since he was so frightened, the tall man grabbed his shirt and yelled “Did you see them?” Tin Yau “Yes, yes I saw them ran to the east”. The tall man pushed Tin Yau away and ordered all the rest came go to the east.

Boss Sum Sum (looked very tried):Good , now I need some water, my people are injured. Do you have any medicines and some bandages?

Tin Yau:Yes,yes i do(stuttering)

Boss Sum Sum :Go get it.

Tin Yau gave the medicine to him and wrapped some bandages to the bodyguard, he was not in much shock now. He was thinking who the people were, then he heard one of them said “Boss, what should we do now?” Boss Sum Sum “Get some rest, we have to escape to somewhere and cover ourselves”. He then turned to Tin Yau and said “We are hungry, do you have food here?” Tin Yau “Yes, I have some but not much because I have no money.” Boss Sum Sum “Get out all you have for now, I will give you some money and you will go out and buy some more tomorrow.”

That night Tin Yau slept outside, he kept thinking who those people were. They all must have done some illegal things, otherwise, so many people wouldn't go chasing after them. He was wondering the whole night until he finally fell asleep.Next morning, Tin Yau went outside to buy some food, he saw lot of gangsters walking on the streets pretending to just be bystanders, but really looking for Boss Sum Sum. He came in the small tea house, ordered some tea and then one man came in the tea and shouted “Big news, big news, Boss Sum Sum’s period is over, the big 7 brothers are now taking over everything!” People were shocked, Tin Yau tried to listened and figured out that the old man who came to his house was Boss Sum Sum. The big 7 brothers spread the news that Boss Sum Sum was dead . Tin Yau then got the idea - a bad idea, he would help Boss Sum Sum.. Tin Yau had noone left in his family. The person who his father thought was his best friend tricked his father and their family lost everything in one night. Only him still survived but he lost his pride and dignity, living everyday almost like beggar. He swore to himself he would take a revenge and now this was his chance. Tin Yau’s eyes shone like a fire ……….

Tin Yau watched the Boss Sum Sum and his men with eyes hooded by the shadows that hung over his broken home. He nearly laughed aloud when he thought of all the possibilities that his life had taken him. His family was murdered by his best friend's father, he was abandoned to die alone, and now his home was a refuge to criminals. The mafia boss was in his house, for God's sake! What a twisted life he was living. But,then again, he felt like he was already dead along with his family...he was just living in Hell. He had to get revenge on his enemies or the spirits of his dead family would never set him free. He had nothing to lose now anyways...it was his head or Chi Nam's head...

From the corner of his eyes, Tin Yau saw the boss take some antiseptic to care for some of his men's wounds and he felt something stir in his heart. Perhaps the mafia did have loyalty afterall. It had been so,so long since anyone has cared for Tin Yau's existance that he felt so lonely and bitter in his revenge. Love...he could never love or trust anyone again.

"Hey,you over there!" the man named Boss Sum Sum called him over and obediently he went. "Is this your home? You look too young to be the owner. Where are your parents?"

The boss's face was folded into many wrinkles and Tin Yau guessed his age to be around his father's age. His hair was white around the temples but his eyes were clear and alert. Tin Yau knew that despite his age, this man was not someone he should fool around with.

"Well, can't you hear?" the Boss shouted, his voice rising. He waved his hand in front of Tin Yau's face to make sure that the boy was blinking as a reflex."Didn't you hear what I said?"

"They're dead," Tin Yau whispered, surprised that his voice could remain so calm. It had only been one week since he had buried his family behind his backyard. No caretakers were called,no police charges were made. He was just a boy against a wealthy tycoon who had wanted to kill him. It was just a twist of fate that he was still alive. No amount of police protection could keep him from harm now. So, to give his family a decent burial,Tin Yau used his hands to claw the dirt to cover up the corpses despite his bleeding palms and his broken fingernails. He didn't mind the pain because it made the nightmares of the murders less graphic in his mind. But,he would never forget the images of dirt falling across his parents and his younger brothers' face as he lowered them into the cold ground for a final farewell.

"Dead?" Boss Sum Sum repeated and looked closely at the boy. He looked about seventeen or eighteen years of age but within those deep, dark eyes, he seemed older. The boy was a handsome lad with strong features and a sensual mouth. But,his body was bent was though he were too tired to stand up straight to face the world. His arm was bandaged tightly and some blood had soaken through the bandages, but he didn't seem to feel any pain. There was an air of mystery and hopelessness to such a young man and Boss Sum Sum felt his heart go out to the boy. "Why are your parents dead, son? How did they die?" Instinctively, he reached out to touch the boy on the shoulders and was startled to see the look of panic on his face as he drew away.

Tin Yau took a step backwards as the boss's hand lay on his shoulder as though he were touched by fire. Never again would anyone touch him, never again would he give his trust to another. He saw the look of surprise on the boss's face and he bowed his head in apology. It wasn't wise to make enemies with the mob,and Tin Yau knew that he had to play the innocent fool if he wanted to get anywhere with this clever Boss Sum Sum. "They were murdered," he said softly, wrapping his arms around himself. He suddenly felt cold and so very alone that tears sprang to his eyes. Murdered...it still seemed like a dream that his family had been muredered. It should have happened to someone else, not him. Never the wealthy and dearly loved Fook Tin Yau, not his mother's favourite son.

Boss Sum Sum saw the glitter of the boy's tears in the dim light of the lantern by the table, and realized how much this boy had suffered. The house was a large home, possibly the loving home of a fairly well-off family. But,here was a withdrawn and frightened young man who was abandoned by his loved one, separated with them forever by death in a house full of secrets and shadows that lurked in every corner. This was no place for a boy to live in and Boss Sum Sum felt anger in his heart for the person who had harmed this child.

"Come to me,my son," he said, his voice kind. He reached out to take the boy's hesitant arms and drew him close. The boy was shivering and looked up at him with doubt and fearful eyes. Boss Sum sum felt the looks of his men on him and the boy and he smiled. Most of the men in his mafia were poor children, abandoned or left to starve by broken homes or parents who did not love them. Boss Sum Sum had taken them in one by one and taught them the rules of the game in the Hong Kong triad society. It was a dangerous game where one could die at anytime, but life was a gamble. It was either go against the law, or die in the cold. Society was cruel and these boys always followed him willingly and without remorse, even when they took their final breath. Boss Sum Sum hoped that this certain boy would do the same.

Tin Yau grimaced at the smell of whiskey and wood on the Boss's shirt as the man drew him close and he closed his eyes wearily. He felt ridiculous to be held by a complete stranger but he knew that he had to place faith in this mafia gang. He had no one else and he must get revenge on Chi Nam and his tyrant of a father. He had to play the obedient gang member to get his revenge.

"I have no one now," he whispered pitifully, choking back tears that threatened to spill."Please take me with you. Please make me one of your boys. I will do anything, know I will."

The boss glanced down at the young face so full of earnest and hope that he had to smile. "What is your name?"

Tin Yau looked up at him with a sense of pride in his eyes.

"Fook Tin Yau," he answered, determination in his voice. "The only surviving member of the Fook family, sir."

The boss chuckled at such a comment that was so bittersweet. There was a strength and maturity in Tin Yau's eyes that made him far more intelligent that his immature years, the Boss knew. If he did not teach this child with caution and care, Tin Yau could easily become a deadly human weapon. This boy already has the blood of his murdered family weighing on his heart. That ambition alone would make any human insane, but Tin yau was a fighter and a survivor. The Boss knew that the boy would one day want the mafia's help to rid of his enemies, but in the meantime, Tin Yau would make an excellent disciple. Such strong determination in those dark pools that were his eyes.

"You're in," The Boss cried, and motioned the rest of the gang in to meet the newest, youngest member. A spark of hope shimmered in the boys eyes and for a brief moment, a curve of a smile was on his face. One day,the boss knew,Tin Yau would live and smile again when he had avenged his parents. That day would be soon....

********

Tin Yau shook his head and his mind snapped back to the present. The past...why was he always thinking about the past? His joining of the mafia gang waw five years ago but it had felt like yesterday. His brother's blood on his shirt had seemed like only yesterday.

He stood up with impatience and looked around the motel room. He couldn't stay in Hong Kong too long,he knew. The mafia and Boss Sum Sum were in Shanghai and they were all waiting for him. It was nice enough of the Boss to allow some karate fighters to escort him to Hong kong, but Tin Yau had refused.

For five long years now,Boss Sum sum had been his surrogate father who had taught him everything there was to know about survivial in the world of crime. Boss Sum Sum had clothed him,fed him and even loved him. Tin Yau had never known such kindness from another human being, and despite his unwillingness to trust someone else,he had found himself loving the boss back in return. He clearly rememebered the first time the boss had taught him how to use a gun. Tin yau was frightened out of his mind to be touching such a deadly weapon and had even cried in his sleep because his family had all been killed with a machine gun. But,the Boss had taken him aside and gently told him that he could become friends with the gun. The gun would give him the power to destroy whoever was in his path. From then on,Tin Yau carried a gun with his as a companion wherever he went. He killed for his Boss, did illegal drug deals for his boss, stole and forged fake money for his Boss. Tin Yau had never felt so much excitement in his life and the crime life was good. He now had money of his own,a home if he wanted, power and status in the world of the underground mafia.

How time has changed him,Tin Yau thought. The Tin Yau five years ago was just an innocent school boy. He would never in his darkest dreams think that he would one day split a man's brains out with a loaded gun. Tin Yau was not a heartless person;it was merely the injustice of life that made his heart cold. If his family weren't killed, Tin Yau knew that he would still be friends with Chi Nam and attending university if fate had not intervened.

But,that was all a thing of the past. Reality was his vengence and his hatered for his enemy gives him a purpose to wake up every morning. He must kill Chi Nam soon. He must make that Leung boy pay dearly for his father's sins.

HONG KONG

Tin Yau was sitting at the balcony in the hotel room, thinking about his past life. He came to Hong Kong since he knew that Chi-nam was not dead by his gun shot. His number one enemy was still alive. Tin Yau tried very hard to make the Big Boss trusted him and he was successful. The Big Boss ordered him to contact the gangster leaders who still respected him, then the big boss sent him into the 7 big brothers group, incited them to suspend each other. The 7 big brothers were very greedy, they wanted even more moeny, power, and wealth than they had. They slowly fell in the dirty trap, they kept an eyes on the others carefully, finally they broke up. The Big Boss restored his power and killed the 7 big brothers. Tin Yau became his right hand ever since, he joined all the illegal things - killing innocent people, drug, prostitutes, gambling, full of blood on his hands. He still had one last thing to do - to kill Chi-nam. The door was knocked and opened by his man, he came in and said

“Tin Yau brother, we’ve got some news for you.

Tin Yau opened his eyes slowly “Go head”

The man “We saw Leung Chi Nam with two girls”

“Two girls?” Tin Yau repeated “Sound like real Leung Chi Nam, who are they?”

“One girl is Fong Fong, she is Pan Wang’s daughter and the other one was Master Yang’s adopted child named A-dee”.

Tin Yau “A-dee, was the girl who got shot by me. She still alive?” He then laughed with no reason “Keep an eyes on them, find out who he likes the most and report me”.

“Yes, brother” the man replied and left.

Tin Yau thought about his revenge, his time was coming. Chi-nam and the two girls. Seeing Chi-nam's painful face as he hurt his loved ones would be even too good to be true. He then smiled, an ugly smile, to kill Chi-nam maybe too kind for him, he wanted Chi-nam to learn what the feeling was when you loose the person you most desire.

At Doctor Lee’s house

A-dee was sitting besides Cho-Fai, she came to look after him everyday and left him when he was asleep. But tonight she was very worried and she stayed at Cho-fai’s room until late night. The door was opened, Bo Bo came in, she shook her head when she saw A-dee “A-dee, you must go home this is late night now.”

A-dee :No, Bo Bo. I will stay here tonight.

Bo Bo :You can’t, you must be tried for today. Go home, get some sleep and come back tomorrow.

A-dee (with worried look on her face): Why Cho-fai is not getting better? Everytime I come he still looks pale and faint. Bo Bo, he will be saved, right?

Bo Bo looked at A-dee sadly face, tried to comfort her “Yes, he will. My father tries very hard to help him. She touched A-dee’s hand to assure “Cho-fai is a good man, he will not die soon. Now you must go home before it getting too late.”

A-dee (shook her head and refused) :I don’t want to go home. I want to stay besides Cho-fai tonight. Please Bo Bo, please.

Bo Bo had no choice, she could not say “No” when A-dee looked at her and begged. “OK, I will get you some blanket and if you want to sleep, there’s a free room.”

A-dee (smiled) :Thanks, Bo Bo. Thank you very much.

Bo Bo left the room worried, she knew that Cho-fai would not get better. Her father told her that he could save him for a while or forever, Cho-fai’s heart was in very bad condition. Bo Bo thought about A-dee, this poor girl could not take this, and Wai Sun too. She knew Wai Sun, she met him everyday and spent time with him. Wai Sun was very concerned about his close friend, he could do anything to help him. If he knew that his friend was going to die… Bo Bo stopped thinking, it was too cruel to her. She walked pass her father’s room and heard that someone was talking to her father.

Chi-nam:So, you suggest that he should go to modern hospital?

Doctor Lee :Yes, he is in serious condition. What I did was to help him from the pain but he will not recover. I heard that the modern medical medicine can treat him but…

Chi-nam:But what? Please tell me Doctor.

Doctor Lee:You must have a lot of money because the fee is very expensive.

Before Chi-nam said anything, Bo Bo knocked the door “Father, may I come in.” She came into the room and told Chi-nam that A-dee was here. Chi-nam followed her to Cho-fai’s room and they found that A-dee was sleeping. Chi-nam’s heart was shaking, even A-dee slept she still held Cho-fai’s hand. Bo Bo looked at him, it was so obvious that how Chi-nam fell about A-dee, if Chi-nam did not love her why would this rich guy like her so much and beconcerned about her. But now the person who A-dee cared for was Cho-fai.

Bo Bo (broke the silent and said):Chi-nam, why don’t you take A-dee out. I already prepared the room for her.

Chi-nam nodded his head, he carried A-dee carefully and walked to the guest room, he fell that A-dee was very light. He looked at her face and thought that she must have lost her weight a lot during the difficult times. Bo Bo opened the door and told him to put A-dee on the bed. Chi-nam told Bo Bo that he wanted to look after A-dee for a while. After Bo Bo left, Chi-nam was thinking about how to help A-dee. What he could do for her? Chi-nam knew that he could not ask A-dee more than being her friend. Friend, this word was running in his head, he - Leung Chi-nam always surrounded by the girls, he left them when he did not want them. But this girl was his only , the only, only...love?He wasn't sure, it was all too new to him,the meaning of love. But he could not have her heart, the best thing that he could do for her was to stay beside her as “good friend”. The only one thing that Chi-nam wanted to do the most was to make A-dee happy, he did not want anything from her. Chi-nam kept thinking until he fell asleep.

When a-dee woke up the next morning, she saw Chi-nam laying beside her sleeping peacefully. She woke up hoping not to disturb him and walked to see Cho-fai and was wondering how she got into a different room. When A-dee stepped out of the room, Chi-nam woke up sensing something move. When he woke, he was startled to see that A-dee was gone, but he knew exactly where to look for her.He quitely peeked into Cho-fai's side and saw A-dee beside him as usual. He could see A-dee, all tired and paled. He wished he could see the strength back in A-dee again.

Chi-nam: A-dee?

A-dee:(turned aroung at Chi-nam) Oh, Chi-nam! Why hello!(turned back to Cho-fai)

Chi-nam: (taking a deep breath, not sure if he should what he was about to say)I, I have some good news. I think we can cure Cho-fai!

A-dee: (Quickly turned head around at Chii-nam and jumped up) What?!WHAT?!what did you say??!

Chi-nam: I said we might be able to cure him!We can bring him to a modern hospital which is better and has many new medicines, treatments, and...

A-dee: (screaming up and cheering and hugged Chi-nam tightly) I can't beleive it!i can't beleive it! I , I could always ask Master for some money or..

Chi-nam : (puts a finger to her lips) Shhhh, calm down. I know the doctor who works at the hospital. He is my good friend and he will be glad to help Cho-fai.

Chi-nam didn't want to let A-dee know that he would be really paying for the money. He just wanted to see her happy. He didn't want to let A-dee repay him for anything.

A-dee: Are you sure?!You aren't lying to me again are you?You sure?!

Chi-nam: Of course I'm not lying to you, let's bring him to the hospital today!

A-dee hugged Chi-nam again, while Chi-nam hoped that time would freeze. He knew he probably wouldn't be able to get another hug from her again in a long, long time.

They got ready all of Cho-fai's stuff when Bo-bo came into the room in confusion.

Bo-bo : What is going on here?

A-dee : Great news! Cho-fai can be cured!he can be cured!

Bo-Bo: What?

A-dee : Chi-nam said to bring Cho-fai to a modern hospital where they can cure Cho-fai!

Bo- bo: Modern hospital ,heh? But you do know that is costs a lot of money to go there right?

A-dee: I know! But don't worry, Chi-nam said he has friend there who is the doctor who would be glad to help Cho-fai!

Bo-bo: Really? (looked at Chi-nam, Chi-nam swallowed looking a little guilty)

A-dee : I can't talk anymore, I must get ready! (she left the room in a hurry)

Bo-bo went over to Chi-nam

Bo-bo: A friend ,heh?

Chi-nam : Yes, a friend I have tons of friend!

Bo-bo : Please don't lie Chi-nam. If A-dee wasn't in all this excitment and in a frenzy she would be able to know that doctors would never do anything for free. Once she is out of her little dream, she will know the truth.

Chi-nam : I know, I know. I don't want her to know, really. Please don't tell her Bo-bo. It is something she doesn't need to know right now

Bo-bo took a moment before she nodded her head

HOSPITAL

Cho-fai was resting on a bed in a white room in the hospital. Wai-sun, Bo-bo, A-dee, and Chi-nam were all surrounding his bed. The doctor had just done a check up on him and had told what was going to happen to Cho-fai to the rest of the people.

Doctor: It will probably take us awhile for us to find the right cure and treatment for him, but do not worry, I know that we will find something for him. But, do not be shocked if he needs surgery.

A-dee: Surgery?! Is that necessary?

Doctor: If you want him to live, yes. (smiled)

Wai-sun: At least I know he will be fine for now. That is all I'm worried about.

Bo-bo: Here, let's go outside to talk and get your mind off of all your problems!

Wai-sun: Yes, sure, I admit I do need a break! (they left the room while Chi-nam looked at A-dee then at Cho-fai, he knew he must leave the room too leaving A-dee alone w/ Cho-fai and the doctor)

A-dee: (turned to doctor) Thank you again Doctor! I don't know how to repay you! I am glad that Chi-nam is yoour good friend!

Doctor: (confused) Friend? Who is Chi-nam?

A-dee: (stuttering) You know Chi-nam, don't you? Don't be playing tricks on me! Chi-nam said you were his good friend and that is why I don't have to pay for the fees here!

Doctor: I am sorry lady, but I have no idea what you're talking about! The fees are being paid too by someone! I have other work to do lady, I must go.

A-dee was standing there, shocked, confused, wondering. She stood there for awhile staring into space thinking, until Chi-nam walked into the room...

Chi Nam stood unmoving by the doorway to Cho Fai`s hospital room carrying a bag of beef dumplings for A Dee. She whirled around to face him, and at that moment, Chi Nam would give up his life just to be able to hold her in his arms. The sunlight from the window shone over her braided hair like a halo, making her appear ethereal and breathtakingly beautiful. She was thin and dark circles clung to her eyes from lack of sleep and worry, but her beauty shone like a diamond against dark velvet. She was his A Dee,the wonderful girl who always thought of others before her own welfare. Her eyes bore into his heart with so many questions and Chi Nam knew that she had discovered that he had paid for Cho Fai`s medical expenses.

Without a word, A Dee brushed past Chi Nam and escaped into the lobby of the hospital. Around her, nurses in bleached uniforms were pushing carts while doctors rushed to and fro to tend to their patients. There were noises of movement and urgency and the air smelled of disinfectant and anticeptic. Suddenly, she had to get out and blindly, A Dee rushed out of the hospital. The sunlight hit her face and she stared up at the brilliant sky. Clouds hung like cotton in the blue horizon and the air was sweet and damp from the early morning moisture. She took a long deep breath,so relieved to be away from the hospital and Cho Fai`s unconscious form on the bed. He was slipping away from her,A Dee knew in her heart. There was no denying it any longer. Cho Fai,her beloved friend and brother, was deteriorating in front of her very eyes.

"You mean so much to him, A Dee," Wai Sun`s voice rang through her ears the day he had rushed her to Cho Fai`s home,"You mean more to him than just a sister." At that moment,A dee was too shocked to believe in Wai Sun`s words. Cho Fai could not be in love with her, could he? But,then, his conditin had taken a turn for the worst, and he had fallen too sick to even speak reasonably. But,during those long nights of caring and tending to his needs, A Dee had finally seen the truth in the way Cho Fai clung to her hands every time he woke up from his delirium. Even during the painful attacks that wracked his entire body with violent spasms, he had clung to her hand and shouted out her name. His eyes were always unfocused,as though he were half blinded by pain, but A Dee knew that he always felt comforted when she was by his side. And,she would never leave Cho Fai.

But,then there was Chi Nam. He was an adventurous, snobbish, wealthy playboy. He was as different from Cho Fai like day and night, but only he held the key to her heart. A Dee had never felt more free and alive than when she was with Chi Nam. Their endless arguments and misunderstandings drove her crazy, but he was the only person whom she would share her heart with. The absence of her parents in her life had always made her feel as though she was an outcast, never good enough for society. But,Chi Nam was just as unhappy with his family situation. Through all of their unbelievable adventures together, she knew that she could never live without him. And,he had taken Cho Fai`s illness in his own hands and paid for the bills himself. His thoughtfullness and his generosity touched her heart to the very core, and A Dee had never felt so lost. With Cho Fai,she owes him her loyalty, respect and sisterly love. But,with Chi Nam,she owes him all of the passion that has kept hidden within her heart for so long.

A Dee had no more tears to shed and felt too drained to cry for anyone. She started toward a nearby tree and collapsed on the ground with a heavy heart.

"Don`t run away," she heard Chi Nam`s wonderful familiar voice against her ear. She spun around to find him sitting next to her with a soft smile on his lips. She was startled to find him so close to her and she made an attempt to move away. But,he clutched her hand in his own and would not let her leave. "You know don`t you? You know that I am paying for Cho Fai`s hospital fees?

She struggled to free her hand and gave up when she saw the hurt in his eyes. She turned her head away, not wanting to meet his eyes. "You didn`t have to do it,"she whispered hoarsely, her voice shaking. "You don`t even know Cho Fai and he`s not a charity case. Wai Sun and I would have thought of something."

She heard him take a deep breath and felt his body grow tense. "By that time Cho Fai would have died!" Chi Nam cried out, disappointment in his voice. "You can think whatever you like. I didn`t do this because I wanted to be a hero and save the hopeless and the dying."

He grabbed her shoulders gently and turned her face towards him. A Dee wanted to pull away but she could not resist looking into his dark brown eyes. There was so much pain and sorrow in those eyes that she felt like it mirrored her own soul. There was such a desperate yearning in the dark depths of his eyes,as though he would do anything to make her understand him. Before she could stop herself,A Dee ran the tip of her finger down the side of his face. His skin felt smooth and warm and she brushed back some of the wisps of hair that had fallen in his eyes. She felt torn and confused...torn between her duty for Cho Fai and her love for Chi Nam. She felt like a dumb person unable to speak and let her emotions free. She knew that Chi Nam had only helped Cho Fai because of her. He had unconditinally lend a helping hand for her sake and proved that he was worthy to be the only man in her heart.

Tearsdrops began to drip off her chin and soaking the sleeve of Chi Nam`s shirt. His smile was bittersweet as he smoothed her tears away and together, they held each other beneath the tree. A Dee huddled close to him,her mind racing, her heart beating wildly. She was out of control and she couldn`t stop herself from holding onto him.

"I`ll wait for you,A Dee," Chi Nam`s voice was barely a whisper in her ear. His breath tickled her skin, fresh and warm. Those were the same words Cho Fai had spoken to her, those very same words. "I`m not rushing you into anything. I`ll never give up on you. I promise to take care of Cho Fai until the day he dies. I will be here for you whenever you need me,just remember that. I will be your best friend,if you`d let me.

No,her mind screamed, she didn`t want him as her "best friend". She wanted him to be her lover, her husband, her confidante. He was everything to her,the very reason her heart was beating. He was so much more than her best friend, didn`t he realize that? A Dee closed her eyes, feeling the weight of him against her and the sensation of being so near to him. So many words were unspoken between them, but they didn`t need words anymore. Chi Nam had finally touched her,not only emotionally but physically. She felt like she could see inside his soul, feel the beat of his heart, look into the windows that were his eyes.

"Thank you," she breathed into his ear. Those words conveyed nothing that she felt for him,but she knew that it was enough for now. Her and Chi Nam`s romance would have to wait. Now was not the time, but A dee hoped that one day they would tell each other their true feelings. For now, though, her heart was full. She was satisfied just to hold him so intimately and she felt at peace for the first time in her life.

*********

Cho Fai wanted to block the image of A Dee in another man`s arms out of his mind but he could not run away from reality. The window to his hospital room was large and from within, every corner of the hospital grounds can be viewed. He had woken up from a deep sleep disoriented, his bones aching from lying in a motionless position for such a long period of time. Sleep had not satisfied his body, for he still felt a heavy weight upon his chest as though someone were trying to squeeze the life out of his soul. He had called A Dee`s name, worried that she had already left, but when he accidently glanced out the window and found his princess in Leung Chi Nam`s arms.

Nothing could have prepared Cho Fai for such a sight. No amount of reassurance, medicine or sweet talk could calm his racing heart. His body had felt cold, then hot, then cold all at once and Cho Fai squeezed his eyes shut to erase the image from his mind. But, of course, it could never be erased. A Dee`s contented smile lying in the arms of her lover would forever be imprinted in his mind. No amount of denial could convince him that A Dee did not love Leung Chi Nam.

Cho Fai finally tore his eyes away from the window and sank wearily down on the bed. He didn`t realize that he had been clutching his fists so tightly that his fingerenails had been dug forcefully into the palm of his hands. Cho Fai didn`t mind the pain, even when a stream of crimson blood dripped off his hand and onto the white bed sheets. His head dropped against the pillow and his gaze looked up at the ceiling.

He didn`t know why he should be so frusterated,so surprised. He didn`t know why his heart would hurt so much from the thought of losing A dee. She was a pretty, young girl who wanted a healthy man to have a family with and who could blame her? Cho Fai laughed to himself when he thought about his own bleak future. He could barely take care of his own health and his father`s family business. How would he take care of A Dee? If he had married her, she would no doubt be a widower before the year was over.

You`re a fool,Cho Fai,he thought to himself, a loser who doesn`t deserve A Dee. His breath coming out in wheezes and his heart tightened in his chest, blocking his air flow. His heart was beginning another attack, but he didn`t cry out from the pain. Instead,Cho Fai welcomed the pain in his chest because it blocked out the image of the beloved girl of his childhood fantasies lying in the arms of a man who was healthy and who wasn`t going to buried beneath the cold earth in a tomb.

From veil of tears in his eyes, Cho Fai saw a nurse come into his room carrying a tray of apples along with a knife to cut the apples with. She instantly placed the tray securely down on the dresser table beside his bed when she saw his face and lips turning blue from the lack of oxygen. Blinded by pain, he was prevented from speaking and all he manged was a whispered moan in agony.

"Doctor,we need a doctor now!" the nurse screamed and her voice ecoed endlessly in Cho fai`s ears. She dashed out of the room, and his gaze turned towards the tray on the dresser. The knife gleamed in the sunlight streaming through the windows, and he struggled to grasp the handle. He didn`t want to be the man coming between A Dee and Chi Nam. If he was going to die, he wanted to die knowing that he was not causing trouble for the "Princess of his dreams". His mother would have to see him in Heaven with his father and he knew that Wai Sun would make sure that she lived comfortably until the end of her days. His fingers inched closer to the knife and his trembling fingers clutched the handle. The pain in his chest was on fire and he knew that he had to end this suffering. A Dee, he thought to himself between gasps, I`ll wait for you in Heaven. With a gentle, peaceful smile,Cho Fai drew the blade to his chest and the knife slipped into his body without any pain. Cho Fai had already slipped into unconsciousness and his limp hand hung over the bed soaked with his blood in a final wave of farewell to his friends.

Bo Bo and Wai Sun walked through the hospital grounds carrying a bouquet of get-well flowers for Cho Fai without speaking, but she didn`t mind. She knew that there were many conflicts tugging inside Wai Sun,causing him to be frusterated and not at peace with himself. Among the conflicts was Cho Fai`s illness, but there was something else too...something she couldn`t quite put her fingers on. The morning was beautiful and but even the clear skies and brilliant sunshine couldn`t chase away the shadows that clung to his eyes. He had arrived at her house early that morning, pleading for her to come with him to visit Cho Fai. "He knows that he`s dying," Wai Sun had confessed, his voice breaking. He had clutched Bo Bo`s hand,as though she possessed magic that could cure his friend. "I don`t know what to say to him anymore. I can`t lie to his face, but I can`t bear to tell him the truth. I need you with me,to give me the courage."

Bo Bo had wanted Wai sun to say those words to her so much that her heart had raced in ecstacy. Never had a man told her that he needed her and wanted her. But,she didn`t want Wai Sun to confess to her in his condition, not with the threat of Cho Fai`s death hanging above their heads. Bo Bo barely knew Cho Fai but the days that he had spent unconscious in her home, she had felt a connection with the young man who was too ill to recognize her as a stranger. She had felt the love and desperation from Wai Sun each time he visited Cho Fai and held his friend`s hand. Bo Bo knew that Cho Fai was a good man and didn`t deserve this treatment from God. But,she had been a doctor`s daughter for all of her life, and she had seen the face of Death as a child with the death of her own mother and the death of her father`s patients. Now,she dreaded Cho Fai`s death and wished with all of her heart that she could ease Wai Sun`s sorrow.

"Thanks for coming with me,"Wai Sun said softly, bringing Bo Bo out of her thoughts."I appreciate it so much. I just have a bad feeling about today,I just know that something awful will happen. I think I`m getting paranoid." He managed a weak smile for her sake and Bo Bo felt her heart melt. She hurried to keep up with him as they turned a corner and out of the corner of her eyes, she saw a scene that made her paralyzed with shock and fear.

Bo Bo almost fainted with horror as the image of A Dee and Chi Nam holding each other came into focus, and her gaze whirled on Wai Sun. He was looking at her questioningly,as though he was confused at what was making her so tense. Bo Bo quickly took his hand and dragged him half running into the hospital and out of eye contact with the scene that she had just seen. Bo Bo couldn`t believe that A Dee and Chi Nam

were holding each other in public like that. She had nothing against couples being romantic in public, but she knew that Wai Sun would strangle A Dee with his bare hands if he knew that she was in love with another man and not his dying friend Cho Fai,who would need her support during his illness. Wai Sun had always loved Cho Fai like an overprotective brother and he was blinded by that love so that he could not see what was really happening. Bo Bo blamed no one and felt pity for A Dee. It was so obvious that the girl loved only Chi Nam,but duty and honour had chained her to a hospital bed where another man lay waiting for her affections. It was so fortunate that Wai Sun had not seen what she had just witnessed or the situation would get out of hand.

"Why were you so scared out there?" Wai Sun asked, looking confused at her as they walked to Cho Fai`s room."Saw a ghost or what?"

"Something like that,"Bo Bo laughed shakily, her cheeks turning warm at her attempt to lie. She cleared her throat nervously and smiled. "All doctor`s daughters see ghosts, you know. I`m weird,so what are you going to do about it?" Wai Sun laughed at her humour for the first time that morning and Bo Bo breathed a sigh of relief. She had to act normal, she knew,or someone as intelligent as Wai Sun would suspect something was up.

They turned a corner that led to Cho Fai`s room and was startled to see the door open. Wai Sun rushed in ahead of her and as Bo Bo followed quickly behind, she almost slipped and fell on a puddle of something wet. She glanced down and screamed. There was a large puddle of blood by the bed and as her eyes focused on the figure on the bed,Bo Bo wanted to collapse with horror.

Cho Fai was lying on his back with a knife in his chest, his eyes staring blankly at the ceiling. His white hospital gown was already beginning to turn crimson from the wound and his waxen face looked like that of a dead corpse.

"No," Wai Sun screamed,then,"NO!"

Instantly, forcing herself to recover from her shock, Bo Bo pushed Wai Sun aside and approached the bed. She lifted Cho Fai`s limp neck off of the pillow and struggled to feel his pulse. She sagged with relief and tears in her eyes when she felt a weak one and glaring at Wai Sun, she cried,"Get a doctor in here. He`s dying right now. Get help!"

Stuttering and nodding vigorously, Wai Sun stumbled out of the room but bumped right into the bodies of two doctors and a nurse. Before he could manage to speak, the team of medical professions brushed past him and rushed to Cho Fai`s bedside.

"He..he wasn`t like this when I went in here before," the nurse stammered, her voice wavering in terror,"He was having an attack,so I rushed out to get help." Then, her gaze fell on the knife protruding from the patient`s chest and she recognized it as the knife she had brought with her to slice some apples. "This is a suicide, doctor. I had nothing to do with it!"

The doctors were shaking their heads and the nurse`s comment was lost in the shuffle of orders and demands for medical equipment to be brought in. Bo Bo and Wai Sun stood leaned aside the wall in a corner as more medical doctors rushed in with gurneys and medication.

Bo Bo watched with eyes wide with fright as the doctor injected a syringed into Cho Fai`s arm and then they lifted his body up onto a gurney. They tore his bloodied hospital gown off, placing tubes onto every inch of his body. An oxygen mask was placed over his mouth and they wheeled his limp form down the hall. All of this was done in such a frantic confusion that it left her head spinning from shock and dibelief. Beside her,Bo Bo felt Wai Sum trembling and she was too scared to reach out to comfort him. He was in shock, she realized. He had just seen his friend covered in blood and on the verge of dying only minutes before. Wai Sun had always been uncomfortable to see Cho Fai suffering,as though his denial could make his friend`s pain more bearable. Yet,today,Cho Fai had bled and lay dying in Bo Bo`s arms as Wai Sun watched. The feeling of deep sorrow and hopelessness tore at his heart and he felt like he wanted to explode with rage at Cho Fai`s fate.

"Your friend needs surgery this instant," a doctor stepped aside to talk with them,"We must get the bleeding under control. With the patient`s heart condition, however,I can`t guarantee survival. The wound seem to be fatal, but with God`s mercy,he may make it through the surgery."

Bo Bo glanced at Wai Sun`s unresponsive face and quickly turned to answer the doctor because she knew that Wai Sun was in no condition to handle these affairs. "Where are the legal papers to sign?" she inquired, trying to keep her voice steady."We`ll sign them. We will be held responsible for all of the expenses. Just please save him,Doctor."

The doctor gazed down at her sadly and nodded. "We`ll do our very best,"he looked over at Wai Sun with concerned eyes."Your friend seems to be in shock. We can give him some injections to calm him down at the front desk,if you`ll just follow me. You can sign the legal papers there, too."

Bo Bo nodded a silent thank you and reached out to hold Wai Sun`s arm, holding him upright as they followed wordlessly behind the doctor. She saw how Wai Sun`s lips were quivering and she held him closer. His eyes shone with unshed tears and he stared ahead as though he saw no one and nothing ahead. And,as they walked, she heard nurses whispering to one another and her ears picked up on some comments about what had just happened to Cho Fai.

"He tried to kill himself," a nurse said, her voice rising in panic. Bo Bo recognized her to be the nurse that had rushed into Cho fai`s room with the doctors when they had tried to resusitate him. "I swear that he wasn`t like that when I walked in before. He was struggling to breathe so I knew that he was having an attack. I rushed out and there he lay with a knife in his chest."

"Really?" Another nurse cried. "Poor man. Something must have made him desperate enough to take his own life."

The nurse`s conversation drifted away as they neared the front of the hospital. Wai Sun was still unresponsive and Bo Bo was glad that he didn`t hear what was being discussed about his friend. She still couldn`t believe that Cho Fai would kill himself. How could that be? Then, suddenly, she was paralyzed with realization as a thought crossed her mind. Perhaps Cho Fai had seen A Dee in Chi Nam`s arms. Surely it wasn`t impossible to look out the window of the hospital room and not see such a scene. But,Bo Bo didn`t believe Cho Fai was immature and ignorant enough to take his own life because of his anger and jealousy over a situation like that. No,she thought, he was not that kind of person. Cho Fai must have blamed himself for losing A Dee and in his pain of the heart attack, he must have thought it would make everything better if he would just disappear...if he would just die...

"Bo Bo! Wai Sun!" a female voice cried out,and she looked up to see A Dee and Chi Nam walking toward them from the entrance of the hospital. A Dee was smiling the sweetest smile she had ever seen and a contented look of peacefulness was in the girl`s eyes. They appraoached Bo Bo and Wai Sun just as the doctor asked,"Sign here to give us permission to have surgery on your friend," and the look in A Dee`s eyes vanished.

"Surgery?" she echoed, her eyes wide with dead."Who needs surgery? Is Cho Fai alright? What just happened here?"

At the sound of A Dee`s voice, Wai Sun suddenly snapped out of his stupor and he glared at A Dee. His gaze drifted over to Chi Nam`s face and his eyes narrowed furiously. What in the world was A Dee doing with that guy? He felt so frusterated that he wished he could punch the guys`face with his fists.

"Well? I know something is wrong with Cho Fai," A Dee cried, taken back by the rage that she saw within Wai Sun`s eyes. She suddenly felt a twinge of guilt, and without knowing why,she felt a tear slip down her cheek. "Tell me,what is wrong with him?"

"Your friend..."the Doctor started to say but Wai Sun cut him off coldly.

"He commited suicide," Wai Sun spoke up,his voice laced with contempt and hatred. "Tell me why Cho fai would do such a thing,A Dee. I think you, of all people, should know the reason."

A Dee felt Wai Sun`s accusing glare bore into her heart and then she realized that she was to blame. Wai Sun hated her because she had betrayed Cho Fai`s affections. This nightmare was never going to end,she realized. Oh,God,please spare Cho Fai`s life. She knew that she would do anything if God would just bring back the gentle-hearted young man who had loved her so dearly all of these years. A Dee felt everyone`s eyes on her,but Chi Nam`s gaze struck her as the most powerful and the most compelling. She would do anything to ease Cho Fai`s pain. She would even give up Chi Nam...

A Dee suddenly felt the room begin to spin and she felt strong arms catch her before she fell to the floor. Then, she slipped into darkness as a silent prayer died on her lips.

Wai-sun: A-dee, A-dee, answer me!

Bo-bo: Are you alright A-dee?

A-dee: (mumbling) I'm, I'm fine, I just...

Wai-sun: No buts, I'm taking you home. Bo-bo, please watch over Cho-fai and tell us if anything happens to him. (Bo-bo nodded)

Wai-sun looked over at Chi-nam but said nothing to him but just glared at him.

Wai-sun and A-dee were walking on the busy streets all both disoriented. A-dee wanted to be alone, for what reason? She did not know, she wanted to be by herself, that was all.

A-dee: Master Wai-sun, if i'm going home ,I might as well by some food to bring home to cook for Master Yang. Besdies, I want you to stay at the hospital and stay by Cho-fai, when he wakes up, I want him to see somebody he knows there.

Wai-sun: Are you sure? I know you're still a little weak now, and I can't

A-dee: I"m fine really, dont' look down at me just because i'm a girl! (forcing to smile)

Wai-sun took off back to the hospital leaving A-dee standing there for a moment thinking about everything that had happened in just a few days. What a life, heh?Life was filled with so many adventures yet disspointments!A-dee kept thinking and walking unaware of 2 guys following her. They were Tin Yau's men, they had been following Chi-nam for a while and saw that Chi-nam was always accompanied with A-dee. Tin Yau ordered them to catch her and to bring her back to his place.

A-dee bought all the groceries and foods needed and turned to the small lane to take a short cut back to Master Yang's. Suddenly there were 2 men, wearing balck clothing and a black hat blocking her way. A-dee tried to control herself being a little frightened"Excuse me, could you please give me a way." These men did not move a sinle centimeter but walked forward to her. She knew that something was going wrong, she tried to run back to main road. But the men moved fast, one of them pushed her down, A-dee was frightened and scared and screamed "Help!, somebody help me!. Before the situation was getting worse, a man shouted "Stop! Get your hands off of her!". The men turned to the voice, they saw an old man appearing from behing the tress. The old man was Master Chan, he ordered again "Get your hands off of her. NOW".

One of the men dressed in black said : Get out of here, this is none of your business! You old man, get out of here. I don’t want to hurt you!

Master Chan : I will not go anywhere. Get your hand out of her or you will get hurt.

The men dressed in black laughed, they were underestimated to Master Chan. They triedpunch and kick Master Chan but missed every time. Master Chan kicked back to one man, and punched the other one in the face and chest and he fell down. One of them took out a gun, A-dee saw it, she yelled "Watch out!". With quick action, Master Chan grabbed the man's hand with the gun and twisted his hand. The men realised that they would not be able to beat Master Chan and were both injured and escaped very quickly back to Fook Tin Yau.

Master Chan turned to A-dee "Are you alright A-dee?". She tried to smile "I am OK. Thank you very much. If you hadn't come on time, I would've been…"

Master Chan : Do you know them?

A-dee : No, I've never seen them before.

Master Chan : I think they are part of the Mafia, they have guns, only people from the Mafia are most likely able to get a hold of guns. You must be very careful next time.

A-dee : Yes, thanks again, Master Chan.

Master Chan : I didn't see you for a while. You seemed like you lost weight. How about Chi-nam? Why didn't he come with you?

A-dee : I'm fine. Chi-nam is OK. I think he is in a hotel. (quickly said) We are just friends, so I don’t need him with me all the time.

Master Chan laughed.

Master Chan : Where are you going now?

A-dee : I am going home. I was planning to cook for my Master, I haven't seen him in awhile.

Master Chan : I will walk you home.

A-dee : Thank you, Master Chan.

Master Chan walked A-dee home, he was so happy to see this girl again. A-dee reminded him about his lost daughter, A-dee felt the same about him, she felt so familiar to Master Chan liked she had known him before.

A-dee :Here’s my house. Would you like to come in? My Master will be pleased to meet you.

Master Leung: Ah yes, those were the days.

Master Chan: Do you know what happened to "Leung Yong" our third brother on that fateful night, when we were separated???

Master Leung stood up angrily and said: Don't ever mention to me that name again. He is not our brother!!! He was never our brother!!! He used us for his own purposes!!!

Yang Wei Leung could not believe that his long lost friend was standing in his home,by his side. It was so unbelievable that after all of these years, they would still have the opportunity to see one another again, alive and well. It was a miracle from God,he knew, and that realization made tears come to his eyes. His friend was still the same, with some grey hairs and wrinkles here and there. But,those eyes, those gentle, wise eyes were still the same. Eyes so similar to the long lost daughter that his friend had not seen for over twenty years.

"It is fate that brought you to my home,"Wei Leung cried out, reaching out to embrace his friend and his brother in the warmest of hugs."We have gone through so many ordeals just to be able to stand here alive. You are still alive after all these years,my friend. Oh,how much I`ve missed you."

His friend chuckled, tears of joy twinkling in his eyes."It is truly a miracle." The two men held each other for a moment, not wanting to break apart. The years of being absent from one another has not diminished their loyalty and friendship and this occassion was something to truly to celebrate.

"But..but what became of Leung Yong?" Chan Khun wondered,a shadow over his joy."Tell me,Wei Leung. Tell me everything from the beginning, please."

Yang Wei Leung shook his head sadly and took his friend to an nearby chair. It was a long story to tell, and he didn`t know how his friend would react. Chan Khun was nervous at the serious expression on Wei Leung`s face and he knew that what he wanted to hear would not be good.

Sinking into a chair,a tea cup in his hands,Wei Leung began to account what had separated three best friends from each other. The story was forever imprinted in his mind so that each time he closed his eyes to sleep, the memories of the past would haunt him.

He still remembered the day the three of them--him,Chan Khun, and Leung Yong--had to go into hiding. Wai Sun was only six years old at the time of the Japanese invasion, but thankfully, the boy was safely hidden away in another country with a loyal servant to care for the child. Chan Khun`s family, his wife and baby daughter, were not so fortunate and they were still trapped in their home where the bombings were the most severe. Chan Khun had pleaded his friends to help him rescue his family and his friends had agreed. But,then the japanese soldiers had arrived and it was impossible to go anywhere without a registered license. The Japanese were strict with rules on trespassing and the three friends had no choice but to stay in Leung Yong`s home for the time being. Leung Yong also had a little boy,but the child was often away to boarding school in Switzerland,so there was no threat to the child`s safety.

When the third day arrived,Chan Khun was so wild out of his mind to rescue his family that he had escaped past the soldiers. Wei Leung and Leung Yong had helped defeat and disarm many of the Japanese soldiers, but it wasn`t long before more soldiers caught onto their plan. The three friends had ran into the cold night air while an army of soldiers had chased after them. They were caught and brought to prison, but still they refused to relent and surrender.Chan Khun begged the officers to allow him to see his family and to make sure that they were safe, but his words fell on deaf ears. The Japanese drill officer concluded that they were spies and wanted them executed for trespassing without a warrant. He starved them, beaten them and finally gave them an execution date, which was in three days.

They had cried a waterfall of tears for their families, and on the execution date, they had accepted their fate. Although they were not blood brothers, they were brothers in their hearts and would die that way. But,things did not go as planned. The officers had to execute more prisoners but these prisoners were part of the rebellion against Japan and they were furiously not accepting their death. When some of those prisoners were objecting against the guards,Chan Khun took the opportunity to strike a nearby guard with his knowledge of martial arts and then everything was in chaos. Prisoners were being set free and were running out of the prison to freedom. There were gunshots everywhere and Chan Khun and Wei Leung searched frantically for Leung Yong to escape with them. But,he was no where to be found and they had no choice but to leave without him. The mob of prisoners was wild that Wei Leung also lost Chan Khun in the crowd as desperate people pushed and shoved him to the side.

He escaped and rushed to Chan Khun`s home. If Chan Khun was set free,he knew that his home was the first place that he would find his friend. Wei Leung arrived to find Chan Khun`s home in ruins, bombed by a missle. Dead corpses were littered everywhere, some already decaying and the smell of death of overwhelming. His heart almost stopped beating when he saw the corpses of Chan Khun`s dead wife and he softly shed tears in regret and sorrow. He and Chan Khun were too late to save his family. But,suddenly,a child`s cry could be heard and Wei Leung had hope in his heart. He rushed into the mazes of many rooms, his ears trying to clue in as to where the child may be hidden. He finally found a bundle of blankets underneath a bed and nestled inside was Chan Khun`s two month old baby daughter, her body unharmed, her cry ringing loud and clear. Her mother must have hidden the child underneath the bed in hopes of saving her from the bombings,Wei Leung realized. The baby was in tears, and Wei Leung knew that she was probably crying for her mother`s milk. But,her mother was dead.

Years flew by and Wei Leung never heard from Chan Khun again. Leung Yong, however, had his face plastered all over the papers. He had helped the Japanese during the war,the papers stated, and was considered a hero in Japan. He had moved to Japan after the war,and it was only five years ago that he had dared set his foot in Shanghai. He was a wealthy business tycoon now,the papers stated, and had all the money and power in the world. Yang Wei Leung never thought of his old friend,Leung Yong again, after reading the papers. He was dead to him, dead in his heart. All that remained was Chan Khun`s memory and his sweet daughter in his heart. And,so,Wei Leung had raised Chan Khun`s child to his best ability, naming her A Dee. Her name had been Suet Yee before, but it had pained him too deeply to call the child by the endearing name which her dead parents had bestowed her with. The child had been Chan Khun`s life and Wei Leung had loved her like his own daugher. It was the most that he could do to his dear friend`s memory. A Dee had grown up with his own son,Wai Sun,and had owned everything a privledged child had. But,Wei Leung knew in his heart that she was not happy because she didn`t have a family to call her own. And,now..now,her father had stepped into her life. Chan Khun had came back from the dead to claim the child he thought he had lost behind twenty years ago....

*******

Chan Khun could not believe his ears after Wei Leung had told him the story. It couldn`t be....A Dee,the sweet little servant girl...could not be his daughter. But,as he stared at his friend,he knew that it was the truth. Wei Leung`s eyes shone with tears of the past and his face was etched in sorrow. All these years Chan Khun had a daughter who was alive and well, and he never knew it. His little Suet Yee,the baby whom he had cradled in his arms and sang a lullaby to sleep. His child who always cried when she was separated from her mother, and always smiled when her mother was near. Chan Khun had always thought that his wife and child had perished from starvation during the war like most of everyone else near their home. When he had lost sight of Wei Leung during the chaos of the prison escape,he was injured and had lost consciousness. A fellow prisoner had saved him and had bought him to a hide away underground far from the surface. Chan Khun was in a coma for almost three months from a sever head injury, and when he had awoken, the first words out of his mouth was his wife and his daughter`s names. But then, there was no returning to the surface becasue the Japanese army was looking for them. Many of the refugees in the underground tunnle had told Chan Khun that his wife and child had most likely starved to death. As more months passed, even Chan Khun began to lose hope. Then, when the war ended one year later,Chan Khun had rushed into the sunlight to find his home abandoned and the whole area littered with tombstones. He found his wife`s name on one of the tombstones and many smaller tombstones for children surrounding it. He had wanted to kill himself with grief for the deaths of his family. He had not been there to comfort his beloved wife before she closed her eyes one last time,he had not held little angelic Suet Yee in his arms and told her that her father loved her.

And,now,Chan Khun felt as though God was giving him another chance to redeem himself. His child, his beloved little girl was alive and he had befriended her for nearly two months now and never knew. He remembred the first time he had set his eyes on her. She had looked so innocent,so trusting when she and Chi Nam stepped into his karate hall. Her face was like an angel, her eyes large with curiosity, her mouth always in a gentle smile. He had felt instantly connected to her and had never known the reason why. Blood is always thicker than water,he though to himself. That smile was her mother`s smile, the familiar curve of the mouth that could melt any man`s heart. A Dee...what a charming name for such a precious little girl. But,she wasn`t a child anymore,he knew that. She was a blossoming woman and he had been absent in her life when she was growning up. Her father had not been there when she took her first steps, spoken her first words, had her first love for a man, comforted her when hope seemed to be gone. All the endless possibilities drove him mad.

"Chan Khun, calm down," Wei Leung said gently, patting him on the arm."It must be a shock to you,I know. A Dee has always been a daughter to me,but she is legitimatly yours. She is..."

"She is the child that I have been dreaming about all of these years,"Chan Khun finished for his friend, tears streaming down his cheeks, his voice breaking. "Oh,God,I can`t believe that Suet Yee is alive. My little baby...I thought she and my wife had died long ago. My conscience has been eating away at me for twenty years now because I had not died with them,I had not gone with them to Heaven." He turned to look at Wei Leung with heartbreaking pain and hope. "Don`t you see? This is my redemption. Finding Suet Yee again is my escape from my guilt. Tell me about her,Wei Leung. I don`t even know my own daughter!"

Wei Leung smiled with joy. "She is a blessing to me,"he said honestly, his voice soft. "From the day I brought her home, she had been nothing but joy and peace to me. I changed her name for selfish reasons. Suet Yee was the name that you gave your daughter,A Dee is the name I gave mine. She is very much like you. She is witty, generous, gentle and shy. Her temper is like her mother, quick and sharp, but so sweet. She is an angel in my life, since I have no other daugher."

Chan Khun reached out through his tears to embrace the friend who had given him back his reason for living. His hands shook with emotion but he laughed aloud with excitement and happiness."A Dee...oh,I can`t believe that I have been given my child back again," he pinched himself to be sure that he was not dreaming. How many times had he dreamt of holding his daughter in his arms again? "Wei- Leung,I owe you my life,my deepest gratitude,my soul. How can I repay you,my friend? How can I ever repay you?"

Yang Wei Leung took a step back and blinked away his own tears. "Love her,Chan Khun,"he whispered, his voice thick with with emotion. "She has had a difficult life without the love of her parents. I`ve tried my best to give her that sense of self-worth and belonging, but I know that realizing that her own father is still alive would make up for all the days and nights of her yearning for a true family."

Chan Khun nodded. Of course he would love A Dee. How could he not love the sweet angel that he had dreamed about for over twenty years? And,Wei Leung had raised her so well. She was the most charming and distinguished young woman he had met so far. Her charm, her smile, had him wrapped under her spell. He was dazzled by A Dee. He would always be there for her,he swore,he would never again let his child cry alone.

"But,how can I tell her?" he wondered,a worried frown creeping over his forehead. That thought bothered him. His beloved Suet Yee had survived this far without a father in her life. Would he be disrupting her life if he told her the truth now? He knew that he would die inside if she rejected him now.

"I don`t think that now is the time,"Wei Leung advised, his eyes wise and old. "But,you may be near her to talk with her, love her. Sooner or later, when you think that the time is ready, you can tell her. She will acdept you into her life easier if you would be a patient friend now." He patted his friend on the shoulder at the look of disappoitment on Chan Khun`s face. But,Wei Leung knew that time was the best thing to make A Dee accept her new father. She was under much stress lately,he knew. Wai Sun`s friend,Cho Fai, was critically ill,and A Dee had been with him day and night. Now,when Cho Fai was so close to dying, was not the time for celebration. Perhaps after some more months, when the timing was right,Chan Khun`s Suet Yee and his A Dee would finally know the truth about her birthright.

"You`re right,my friend,"Chan Khun nodded, hiding his sorrow with a weak smile. "I would like to hold her and tell her now,but I must think of her feelings. I don`t want her to be shocked and hide from me. I will wait for my daughter."

The two men sat back down onto the chaise and sipped tea, remembering the old times. Yet,their minds drifted off to the young woman upstairs whom they considered to be their daughter and wondered if she was thinking of them.

HOSPITAL

Wai-sun, Bo-bo, and Chi-nam were still at the hospital. Cho-fai had been in surgery for about 3 hours now, Wai-sun had hope in his eyes and walking back and fro again while Bo-bo was sitting down staring at the doors to the surgery room. Chi-nam was sitting there not knowing whether to leave them or not, or stay and be beside them for support of any kind. Wai-sun kept muttering to himself asking himself what Cho-fai was thinking and why he had wanted to kill himself. He didn't have a clue of what, but Bo-bo did. Bo-bo took it that Cho-fai had seen A-dee and Chi-nam together, but never knew Cho-fai was the kind of person to give up so easily and just kill himself over A-dee cause he didn't have her heart. The doors to the surgery burst open and the doctor and 2 other nurses came out w/ him.

Wai-sun: Doctor ,doctor, how is my friend!?is he ok?!(tugging at the doctor's shirt)(the other's were rushing to the doctor as well)

Doctor: Please calm down! This is a hospital so please keep it down. Your friend, well it is hard to say now, he has lost much blood and if he does get well, it will take him along time to wake up and gain consciousness. All we can really do now is wait. It is up to him now. Please let him rest for now though, you can visit him later.

The doctor left leaving all three of them just stand there in daze. Bo-bo was the first to move.

Bo-bo: I, I have to go tell A-dee, I have to go now.

Wai-sun did not respond he was still standing there in amazement.

Chi-nam: Wait, I'll go with you.

Bo-bo: No,it's fine, I can go alone, you stay here w/ Wai-sun.

Bo-bo ran down the streets as quick as she could to get to Master Yang's house. When she got there, she banged on the door loudly and was greeted by a servant.

Servant: Yes, may I help you?

Bo-bo: (out of breath) Yes, I need to see A-dee!

Servant: Very well. (she opened the door and told A-dee was in the kitchen)

Servant: Here, let me show you the way.

But Bo-bo did not let the servant show her the way, she quickly fled into the kitchen by herself

Bo-bo: A-dee!

A-dee:(turned around quickly hearing the loud footsteps) Bo-bo!What is it now?

Bo-bo: Cho-fai!Cho-fai is out of surgery now!

A-dee: Is he ok?Is everything ok?

Bo-bo: They say he lost too much blood, and it will be up to him if he ever wakes up and lives again. (she frowned)

A-dee: I have to go see him! (she was about to rush out the door...)

A-dee: Wait, I promised Master Chan I would cook for him tonight, Bo-bo, would you mind, if..

Bo-bo: Don't worry A-dee, hurry up and go along, I will cook the dinner for you.

A-dee: THank you Bo-bo!You're a great friend.

And with that, A-dee left in a hurry. Bo-bo was standing there hoping things would get better for A-dee and everybody.Master Chan and Master Yang later came out from talking from the rooms.

Master Yang: MMMMMMM, what a great smell! I wonder what A-dee is cooking again!

Master Chan: *sigh* I finally get to eat my daughter's cooking!

Master Yang patted Master Chan on the back and smiled. Bo-bo came out unexpectingly carrying out dishes of food.

Bo-bo: Oh, Master Yang, your food is ready!

Master Yang: And who are you?!

Bo-bo set the food on the table.

Bo-bo: I'm sorry for not introducing, I'm Bo-bo, A-dee's friend. A-dee had to leave to the hospital again.

Master Yang: Oh, i see (having a frown on his face)

Master Chan: Hospital?!Is naything wrong with A-dee?

Fong Fong: Bo-bo!

Bo-bo: Fong Fong, what are you doing here?

Fong FOng: I came here to see how A-dee was doing.

Bo-bo: She is at the hospital now, would you like to come with me to see her?

Cho Fai lay on hospital bed,his face motionless and frighteningly pale on the pillow. His eyes were closed to the world around him and his breath came out raspy and strained,as though his heart was struggling for every single breath. The respirator was placed by his bedside, hissing and pumping oxygen over his mouth in a plastic mask. An IV stand stood on the other side of the bed, transferring nutrients to his starved body intraveneously through the veins in his wrist. His chest was wound tightly with bandages from the recent surgery, and his hand lay limply on by his side, the fingers numb and unresponsive.

A Dee was not prepared for such a sight when she arrived at hospital as fast as she could to visit her dear friend. The doctors had transferred Cho Fai to the ICU (Intensive care unit) for patients in critically conditon so that he could recieve around the clock monitoring, and she had gotten lost finding the room. But,luckily, she had bumped into Wai Sun in the cafeteria of the hospital and he had shown her the room where Cho Fai lay. Wai Sun looked terrible, and she knew that he had not gotten any rest. Dark cirlces hung under his eyes, eyes haunted with fear and doubt. His hair was deshelved and his face was ashen and pale. They did not speak a word as he led her to Cho Fai,and they had no need to speak. A Dee saw heartbreaking sorrow in the way his shoulders were slumped and she knew he had forgiven her, that he no longer blamed her for Cho Fai`s near-fatal suicide. But,she blamed herself and A Dee knew that her mistake was unforgivable. If Cho Fai had died...she would have died along with him, emotionally and physically.

But,the instant she stepped into the ICU room, her heart seemed to stop beating. Cho Fai`s condition was worse than death, she thought,as she sank down by his bedside. He lay so still, trapped in a world that her love could not reach him. She couldn`t even believe that he was breathing until she saw his chest rise up and down under the blankets. He`s alive, she knew, but he was dead to the world,to his friends,to her.

Ever so gently, she took his limp hand in her own small ones and cried. She clutched his hand to hers with all her might, willing that some of her life may seep into his body. She would have gladly given years of her life to him,if only he would just live again. It was torture for her to listen to him struggling to breathe, each breath coming out laborously and arduously.

"You are not going to die," A Dee whispered in his ear,not caring if he heard her or not. She had to tell him this, even though her voice shook so much that she couldn`t even understand herself. "You can`t leave this world yet. You must fight,Cho Fai,fight for your life. I`m waiting for you, waiting for you to open your eyes so that I can see your smile, feel your touch, hold you close to me. Please fight for both of us,please. I beg you...I`m on my knees begging you." And,with uncontrollable sobs wracking her body, she sank down until her knees touched the cold tiles. A dee wept like her heart was breaking in two and that there would be no comfort. Her life would be barren without Cho Fai`s friendship, his unconditionaly love. He couldn`t leave her,she screamed in her mind. Oh,God,I can`t lose him. She squeezed her eyes shut and prayed with every fibre in her being. God had to listen and pity the generous, sweet young man who had given her so much meaning in life. Spare him, please spare him,A Dee thought to herself over and over.

Chi Nam watched A Dee`s hearbreaking sorrow for the dying young man who lay on the hospital bed with such hopelessness and pain that he had to turn away. She didn`t realize that he was in the room,he knew, and he wanted to reach out to comfort her. But,he didn`t know how he could mend her broken heart and his feeling of worthlessness was eating him alive. Chi Nam sought for someone to talk to before he exploded but the only other person in the room was Yang Wai Sun and they were far from being friends. It was as though Cho Fai`s spirit had already left his deteriorating body, Chi Nam realized. Although Cho Fai was in a coma, it were as though he were already dead. A Dee was in hysterical mourninig while Wai Sun was seated on the chair across from the bed,his head buried in his hands, still and silent like a marble statue. The tension and sadness that was in the air was suffocating him and Chi Nam escaped like an invisible shadow from the hospital room.

*****

Fook Tin Yau drove past the country side in his jeep, growing more and more distant from the city. The landscape was breathtaking in such a lush countryside, and he welcomed the clean, fresh air into his lungs. The wind gently rippled through his hair and the air was balmy and cool on his skin. It was a beautiful day to travel,he thought, and he had not felt so content in a long time. Earlier in the day,one of Boss Sum Sum`s mesengers had delivered a letter to him. The letter stated that his Boss was sending cargo to him by boat near a harbour in the countryside and that the mechanical weapons contained in the shipment would help Tin Yau greatly in his revenge against the Leung family. Tin Yau had written back to his Boss, greatfully thanking his kind surrogate father for his consideration and support in the matter. "I will return home to you soon,my Master," Tin Yau had written with smile in his letter, "I only beg you to wait patiently for my return and then we may celebrate the defeat of my enemies." And that day is growing closer by the minute, Tin Yau knew, Time was running out for Leung Chi Nam.

Even during his brief trip, he had advised his group of loyal men to watch closely over the enemy. Although they had failed to kidnap the servant girl named A Dee,Tin Yau was not disappointed. There would be many opportunities to capture the girl. He was mostly focusing on Chi Nam and his whereabouts. Women were easy to deal with, but Chi Nam was the true target. His men has informed him only hours before when they talked on the telephone that Chi Nam had spent most of the day in a hospital tending to an unknown patient who was not his friend.

Tin Yau had chuckled to himself when he learned of the news, for Chi Nam was always tending to the ill and dying charity cases in society. Perhaps it made the wretched boy feel like a hero to be helping those less fortunate that himself,Tin Yau thought,God only knows that his family has enough money to feed all of China. But then,Chi Nam was willing to help others but not his best friend`s family who had been killed by his own father. Tin Yau had learned that life was ironic and unfair the hard way.

The roads were bumpy and many pot holes made the jeep jump up. Tin Yau drove carefully, his eyes on the road until at last he reached the harbour and the tiny town that surrounds it. The sea that stretched across the horizon was endless and the sunlight reflected on the water blinded him for a moment. Many villagers were bustling to and fro, busily and without care. Fishermen and their boats were littered across the white span of sand, talking noisily and happily. Tin Yau smiled, because he had thought to find peace and serenity in such a isolated environment. But,the little village seemed to be even noisier and crowded than the city. He took the key out of the ignition of the car and reached into the glove compartment for his best companion, his gun. Never, ever would he leave his gun behind. Perhaps it was out of his own fear of feeling unprotected or even because he feared the lonliness, Tin Yau didn`t know. He placed his gun securely in the gun latch wrapped around his belt and wrapped his coat around his body to shield his weapon from sight. Boss Sum Sum had informed him that the delivery men who were delivering the cargo were simple farmers and had no knowledge that they were delivering illegal weapons. Tin Yau knew that he had no need to harm such simple-minded peasants, but there was always a small possibility that things may not go as planned. After five years in the mafia,he had learned that it was better to be safe than sorry. It was either his head or someone elses. Tin Yau did not want to lose his head yet,at least not until he blew Chi Nam`s brains out,so he had to keep his body intact until the day he had avenged his parents.

He stolled down the lush green hill that led into the harbour and the village. Children ran across the beach flying kites or helping thier parents at the tiny vendor shops and he smiled to himself. They looked so innocent,so peaceful, that he had to laugh. It had been so long since he had felt at peace and his own laughter sounded strange to his ears. Perhaps one day,he thought, one day he will live as simple and peaceful as these villagers in the harbour. He will quit the mafia and live until old age in seclusion, fishing and playing with the children. But not yet, not now, Tin Yau thought, his fists clenching so hard that his knuckles turned white. Everything must wait until Chi Nam`s death. He would not begin to live again until he had the Leung boy`s blood on his hands.

Upon reaching the strip of land where many villagers had thier business, sold thier products and built thier wooden homes, Tin Yau walked around with awe and glee. The little vendors were mostly elderly men and women who made dumplings, candy or noodles, and the prices were higher than in the city. But,then again, their only customers were tourists who were picking up relatives on the ships that strayed to the harbour or businessmen picking up their cargo. Or,Tin Yau corrected himself, mafia gang memebers picking up their illegal drugs and weapons.

An elderly woman with a bright smile asked him to buy her beef dumplings and Tin Yau could not resist her offer. She looked so happy offering her food,as though he were a king and it was an honour for him to eat her food. Laughing at her open mannersisms,he reached into his pockets for some change, but was disappointed to find only bills.

"Here,no chane necessary," he cried as he handed her the ten dollar bill. The dumplings were a mere fifty cents each, but Tin Yau had no other change and he knew that this woman probably needed the money to feed her family. But,the woman shook her head vehemently, offering him all of her dumplings for such a payment. "Please, take my money. It`s alright,I won`t be able to eat all of these dumplings. Save some for the other customers or even your family. Really,it`s alright."

But,still the woman refused. Tin Yau was frusterated to find the woman shoving the money back into his hands and giving the dumpling to him for free, and he was exasperated. He wanted to yell at her to take the money, since it wasn`t blood money. Much of his income had been from other people`s lives before but recently,Tin Yau had lived in peace and had not killed anyone unless absolutely necessary. He was a mafia gang member but he refused to rape women, abuse them or kill others without legitimate reason, unless it was a specific order from Boss Sum Sum. He was far from being a morally good person, but he knew that it was the least he could do. He had been taughed in a privledged,morally-respectful family and he knew that his mother would kill him if she knew in Heaven what her favourite son has been doing to keep himself alive.

"Take it,please," Tin Yau cried out, desperately placing the money into the woman`s hands and closing her fingers over it. He smiled at her reluctance, but was startled to find her refusing the money.

"Here is fifty cents, exactly," a voice said beside him,and he whirled to find a young girl handing the woman the correct change. Long wisps of hair covered the side of her face,so that he could not see her expression. The woman nodded her head and handed her a dumpling, but the girl shook her head. " The dumpling isn`t for me. I will be paying for this gentleman here who did not have the change. Don`t worry."

Tin Yau watched the exchange between this strange girl and the vendor woman in astonishment. The vendor woman handed him his dumpling with a knowing smile, and he said a quick thank you. "Please wait!" he cried out when the girl turned to leave, and he grabbed her arm to keep her from walking ahead.

Tin Yau must have caught her forcefully because she whirled around to face him with a look of surprise. He sucked in a deep breat as he gazed into her questioning eyes, and felt a warm sensation creeping up his neck.

She was young, possibly eighteen, with long curly hair held in place by sparkling barrettes behind her ears. She was not dressed in the traditional oriental clothing, but was clothed North American fashions that looked so expensive,he was afraid to touch the fabric. Her blouse was the same color as the sea, airy and light, and her white skirt wrapped around her ankles softly and gracefully. She wore brown leather boots, white satin gloves on each hand and an ivory purse with a large jewl in the center dangling from her wrists completed her outfit. This girl was not perfectly beautiful, for her eyes were too close together, but they were sparkling eyes that reflected every emotion that she felt. Her skin looked soft and creamy smooth as down,as though she had not been outside for a while, and her features were miniture and dainty. This girl had an educated background,Tin Yau knew. She was not simply a woman, but a lady. A true lady.

"Yes?" she inquired, smiling a sweet smile at him. Her voice sounded like that of a child`s,which he found most charming.

"I..uh..." Tin Yau started and suddenly found that he was at loss for words. He didn`t know why he had prevented her from leaving and he released her arm in embarassment. He was acting like a school boy and he didn`t know why this girl was affecting him so much. "I apologize,Miss,for...uh...grabbing you by the arm," His words came out lamely. "I`m sorry,I didn`t mean any harm. I just wanted to thank you for paying for the dumpling."

She laughed at his awkwardness,as though she had met many men who didn`t know how to speak properly like himself. "It`s alright," she said, waving her hand in the air, gesturing to him that she didn`t mind. "I hope that next time you would bring some change on you. Ten dollar bills are quit an expensive fee to pay for a dumpling, don`t you think? No wonder the vendor woman was flabbergasted and refused to take your payment. Ten dollars would probably feed her family for months."

Tin Yau didn`t know whether she was serious or teasing him. But,she was right and he felt self-conscious. He had never been a playboy like Chi Nam around women, and usually had no interest in their beauty, body or anything else. He usually thought women a waste of time, but this Americanized girl intrigued him. "I`m sorry,I`m such a fool,"he said, smiling ruefully. "I guess I wasn`t thinking."

"No apologizes necessary..."she started to say,but a voice shouted in the distant announced that her luggage had been boarded off the boat, and she was distracted. At the mention of the word "boat", Tin Yau suddenly remembered his purpose at the harbour. He had to make sure that his weapons were delivered, not flirt with pretty women. They both looked at each other and smiled at the strange twist of fate that had brought them together. The girl started to leave, waving at him with a gloved hand, and Tin Yau felt panicked at her departure.

"May I have the permission to know your name,Miss?" He spitted out before he could stop himself. "No ill reasons,I`m just curious that`s all."

She smiled her angelic smile and told him.

"My name is Lin Zia Hua," the girl introduced herself, and waved to Tin Yau again as she turned to leave. He watched her make her way toward the boat to retrieve her luggage and felt suddenly so lost.

"And,my name is Fook Tin Yau," he whispered to himself, disappointed that she hadn`t asked. He felt foolish that he would feel so rejected at her departure, and didn`t know why. He had thought that he would never feel any emotion in his heart again after what had happened to his family. But,then,Boss Sum Sum and the rest of the mafia gang had stepped into his life, causing him to feel a sense of belonging and confidence. Now,he had just met the most intriguing young woman and she had just stepped out of his life without even knocking on the door to step inside.

With a weary heart,Tin Yau shook his head and began to walk along the beach to look for the ship carrying his cargo. Boss Sum Sum had specifically told him that the ship had a blue flag as an indication that it was the ship Tin yau must be aware of. As he watched the stretch of blue horizon and the children running and playing nearby,he bit into the warm dumpling and chewed carefully. It was good, and he polished the treat in no time. Suddenly,he spotted the ship with the blue flag coming toward the harbour and he raised his arms in the air in triumph. The weapons were finally here.

He dashed down toward the dock with long strides and smiled to himself when he saw four sailors in farmer`s clothes wave at him from the distance.

"Are they your friends?" a familiar voice spoke in his ear and he spun around to look beside him at the innocent face of Lin Zia Hua. Tin Yau grapsed at his heart,so startled from her sudden appearance that he almost fainted. Why was she always sneaking up at him like that? he wondered. Was she a ghost or just a really good spy?

She laughed when she saw his shocked expression and apologized. "Are you having a heart attack already?" she joked. "Sorry,I shouldn`t give into my habit of sneaking up on people. I just wanted to see if you were paying attention that`s all."

"More like seeing if I have high blood pressure," Tin Yau joked back, surprised at himself for being so friendly with this strange girl in American clothing. She stood out like a sore thumb among the villagers in their tattered work clothes, but he found himself liking her different appearance. She was like a Chinese puzzle, full of mysteries and secrets, and he wondered when he would find the key to her true self.

"Miss Lin! Miss Lin!" another young girl with braids and traditional clothing came to them, panting as though she had been running. "The limosine is here to drive us into the city now. Where are your luggage? I`ll bring them to the car." Zia Hua indicated to the four bags of luggage at her feet and the little servant girl stuggled to lift the bags.

"Here,I`ll help," Tin Yau offered, but before he could do anything, two men in black and white uniforms came over to assist the servant girl with the luggage. They addressed to Zia Hua as "Miss Lin" politely and with respect. Tin Yau found himself wondering if she was the President`s daughter or an American-Asian princess. She wore clothes that would make others envy, had an army of sevants at her beck and call and bought strangers dumplings. Her background baffled him and he wanted to know more about this delicate lady at his side. Her family must be wealthy,he knew that fact for sure. But, what was she doing in Hongkong by herself with only a few serants as chaperon?

"Well, are those sailors by the ship your friends?" she asked him again as the servants carried her luggage to an sleek black limosine parked near his jeep on the hill. They motioned her that they were leaving soon, and she nodded that she would meet them in the limosine.

"What?" Tin Yau cried, distracted by the mystery surrounding his new acquiantance. He looked down at her and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry,I wasn`t quite listening. No,they`re not my friends. I`m here to pick up a delivery."

Zia Hua nodded her head as though she understood, but thier discussion was interrupted as Tin Yau rushed forward when the ship reached the harbour. As he neared the ship,he saw that many other people`s cargos were on board, all in wooden boxes. His cargo numer was 34 and he searched with his eyes for the number.

Then, out of the corner of his eyes,he spotted a group of men wearing long black trench coats like himself walking toward the ship, and a suspicion gnawed in his stomach. Surely,he might not be the only member of the mafia here picking up illegal products. I must be cautious,Tin Yau told himself, his hands already tracing the outline of his gun hidden underneath his coat.

The group of sailors began to unload the cargo, crying out the numbers as one by one, they lay the wooden boxes down on the dock. Tin Yau rushed forward eagerly and in his haste,he bumped shoulder with a man in the group of suspicous looking travelers. The man glared at him in distaste but made no attempt at causing trouble. He wore a long trench coat with expensive buttons and a white scarf, like a big boss. Tin Yau didn`t know anyone in the mafia in Hongkong and he was smart enough to know that causing unnecessary trouble meant that his head would be blown off before he even knew what happened. Back in Shanghai,he was the leader of his own gang but in Hongkong,he was in completely unfamiliar territory. He bowed his head in humble apology at the Boss, but he felt someone yank the collar of his coat from behind him. He heard Zia Hua`s scream beside him,and he swore to himself. He didn`t want her getting involved if things were to get messy.

"How dare you bump into my Boss and only bow an apology?"a rough voice shouted furiosly in his ear. Tin Yau struggled free to glare at one of the men in the group who had harrassed him. The man also wore a trench coat and had a long scar on the right side of his face. His eyes shone with wickedness and Tin Yau knew that he was in troble. "Well? Answer me,you stupid kid! Can`t you hear?"

Before Tin Yau could speak,he felt Zia Hua body close to his, pushing him back. Her body was rigid as she stared down at the men. "How can you be so unreasonable?" she cried shrilly, anger in her voice. "My friend only accidently bumped into your boss, not intentionally. You can`t order people around like that!"

Tin Yau`s stomach was in knots at her comment. He was touched that she had stood up for him,but now was not the time for friendship and loyalty. Oh,God,he cried silently,Get this rich girl out of here. He didn`t know if Zia Hua was courageous or just plain stupid. Didn`t she know that she was dealing with the Hongkong mafia? He had to do something to get her out of this mess. No doubt that these men would strip her naked and rape her in public in an instant.

"Ah...forgive my little sister, gentlemen," Tin Yau babbled frantically, shoving Zia Hua safetly behind him. She struggled but he clutched her hand as tight as he could to indicate to her that these men were dangerous. She seemed to understand and he felt her fear from the way she squeezed his hand in return. "She`s still a child and doesn`t know any manners. Please,I`m sorry for bumping into you. If only you would let us through to get our cargo..." He started to move past the group of men,but two of the men blocked his path. From behind him,Zia Hua gave a small cry and he wanted nothing else but to get her out of harm`s way. Where were her danm servants? he wondered. Didn`t they know that they`re precious "Miss Lin" was going to get her head blown away if they didn`t come to fetch her?

"You and your pretty little sister ain`t going anywhere," one of the men sneered and they shoved him to the side. Tin Yau,surprised at the attack, landed on his back hard on the wooden dock. Around them, the sailors and villagers began to get worried and frantic that a fight would be starting. They began to pack up their belongings and find shelter from a battle. Shouts and screams from women and childern could be heard as they ran away. Good,Tin Yau thought, get out of here while you still can.

He scrambled to his feet in time to find two of the men holding Zia Hua down on the dock, pinning both her arms to her sides. She was crying hystrically and screamed as one of the men began to unbuckle his belt and lifted up her skirt.

Fury and disbelief blinded Tin Yau as he reached into his coat to retrieve his gun. "Get your slimy hands off of her!" He roared, plunging his body weight down on the men to snatch thier hands off of Zia Hua. The men quickly retaliated by punching Tin Yau in the face and he stumbled backwards. His head spinning,he was caught by the other gang memebers by the arms so that he had no chance of escape. But,Tin Yau quickly disarmed his gun and unleashed bullets into the men. Two of the men fell dead, while the others reached into their coats for their weapons. Frantically, his heart racing,Tin Yau screamed "Get up and run!" to Zia Hua,who lay on the dock crying bitterly. He knew that there was going to be a World War 3 at the harbour in a matter of seconds and that stupid rich girl was just going to lie there and be killed. Without a moment`s hesitation, Tin Yau scooped the delicate form of the young woman that he had just met off of the deck and clutching her hands in his in an iron grip,he ran.

Behind them, the gangsters cried out and ran after them. Panting, with Zia Hua crying out in fear,Tin Yau made a turn for the hill where his jeep and the limosine of "Miss Lin" was parked. Bullets were shot at them, but Tin Yau still kept on running like he would never stop. Zia Hua was whimpering like an injured animal, and her slow pace gave the gangs an advantage. Then, fed up with her slow strideds, Tin Yau lifted her into his arms in a piggy back while she ranted and raved in his ear.

"We`re going to die!" She screamed, struggling with him even as he trie to keep her from falling out of his arms. "Put me down now! Oh,God,they`re catching up! Oh,god!"

"SHUT UP!" Tin Yau was furious beyond reason. The path to the hill was difficult to travel and with the weight of a woman on his shoulders,he didn`t need the screams of a hysterial crying female to gnaw at his nerves. At least he knew that this rich girl wasn`t injured since she had screamed so loud in his eyes that he knew he would becomoe deaf. The gang was gaining up on them, his brain shouted, but their bullets had stopped. A glimmer of hope shone in his eyes as he thought of their lack of weapons. He and Zia Hua were still alive...if only they could make it to the limosine or his jeep.

"I`m sorry!" She cried out, tearful and desperate. She clung to him so hard that her fingernails dug into his shoulder and he clentched his teeth in silent pain. "I didn`t know that they had guns. Oh,no,hurry! They`re coming!"

Tin Yau ran even faster at that comment, and grunted and heaved in long breaths as he struggled to breathe with so much pressure on lungs. The landscape of the once peaceful village was a blur as he moved onwards, panting. Never in his life had he ran so fast,or his heart pounded so despeately. I have to live,he told himself repeatedly,I can`t die here. Not here.

Then, finally, the limosine and the jeep was in sight and Zia Hua screamed "My car...my car has protective windows! Oh,no,hurry to my car now!"

Tin Yau made one final leap to her car and the servants were crowded around with shock and horror. Their "Miss Lin" was being carried by a man holding a gun while a gang of many others chased closely behind. Bumbling and fumbling, the servants got into the car while a driver started the car. Tin Yau tore Zia Hua from his grasp as he handed her over to her servants, crying and shreiking at him to hurry. Sweat clung to his forehead and it dripped into his eyes like salted water. He blinked frantically and ordered," Get Miss Lin into the car now!" All of the servants pushed Zia Hua into the car as told while she screamed for him to get to safety from within. Tin Yau started towards the car door that was still open for him to jump in when a bullet caught him from behind his back.

Tin Yau held out his hand to the limosine door, blood spitting out of his mouth. Then,he felt a hand reach out to him and dragged his body into the limosine. The shouts of "Kill him!" from the gang was interrupted as the doors shut and the car sped away. The road was bumpy and he groaned in pain as the vehicle went over a lager pothole. His head was spinning and gasping for air,his gaze became so blurry that all he could see were faded images of a woman crying.

"Hold him down, don`t let him move!" he heard a voice command from a remote corner of his brain. "Put pressure on the wound so he doesn`t bleed to death. Where`s the nearest hospital?"

He was laid on his chest and a hand held up his head so that he didn`t suffocate himeself. Agonizing pain shot up from his spine as pressure was applied to the bullet wound and he screamed out in agony.

"Don`t die, please," he heard a woman`s voice cry in his ear. He felt a stream of something wet on his hand and knew them to be tears. "You must live..you can`t die..."

Yes,he thought to himself,he couldn`t die. Not without his revenge, not without avenging his family.

"Miss Lin," he croacked out in gasps as he slipped into unconsciosness. "Don`t cry for me,I won`t die...no...I won`t..."

Fong Fong and Bo-bo were walking slwoly on the streets to the hospital. They both walked in silence not know what to say to each other. Fong Fong couldn't help but notice that Bo-bo was tall and beautiful looking and was wondering how long she and Wa-isun had been friends. Fong Fong wished that she had known Wai-sun before Bo-bo, but she felt mad at herself for thinking such cruel things.

Fong Fong: Uh, so is Cho-fai ok?

Bo-bo: he's , he's, well i don't exactly know, I supposed if you go see for yourself, you will know.

Fong Fong: How is Wai-sun holding up?

After hearing Wai-sun's name coming out of Fong' Fong's mouth, she felt a little distraught. Why would Fong Fong care about Wai-sun?

Bo-bo: He has been staying with Cho-fai for so long now , I tell him to go home, but he refuses everytime!

Fong Fong: Oh, well I understand. If one of my friends were hurt that badly, I would be like him too.

Bo-bo smiled at Fong Fong, thinking that she really wasn't that bad after all, Fong Fong was a very caring and gentle person. They both arrived at the hospital and Bo-bo took Fong Fong to Cho-fai's room. Fong Fong saw A-dee and she could not say anything when she saw such a sad scene in front of her. A-dee was sitting besides Cho-Fai’ bed, she held his hand, she looked very tiredd and pale. Fong Fong had never saw A-dee being like that before, A-dee for her was a lively girl but now the sadness shown in her eyes. Fong Fong looked at the other side, she was dismayed when she saw Wai-sun buried his face in his hands, when Wai-sun looked up his face was so pale and totally discouraged. Bo Bo came to Wai-sun touched his hand gently, her eyes shown that she cared for Wai-sun. Wai-sun tried to smile to her and squeezed her hands assuring that he was all right. Fong Fong was very desperate when she saw how close they were, no doubt they had known each other for awhile and had been very close friends, she thought. A-dee looked at Fong Fong and said “Sorry Fong Fong, I didn't see you are here”. "Don't worry, I went to look for you at your home but Bo Bo said you were here, and took me to the hospital” Fong Fong walked to A-dee and touched her shoulder “If there is anything I can help with, please tell me. Oh, where is Chi-nam?”. A-dee looked around, she just noticed that Chi-nam had left “I don’t know, maybe he went back to the hotel, he must be very tried by now.”

Fong Fong: Oh, I was hoping to speak with him. Well, I will go look for him now. I will come back here tomorrow and see how everything is going.

A-dee: Thank you for your concern (trying to smile) Wai-sun, why don't you take Fong Fong to Chi-nam, it is not safe for a girl to be walking somewhere in the night now. Besides you need to go out and get some fresh air.

Wai-sun: (looked at Fong Fong)Uh, sure.

Bo-bo was suddenly worried in her heart. Wai-sun and Fong Fong together? She told herself not to jump to anything considering she had nothing to worry about since Wai-sun was only a good friend to her, right? And Fong Fong was a nice friend too...

***

Fong Fong and Wai-sun were walking along the lonely dark streets. Fong Fong was hoping to make a conversation with Wai-sun, but it was hard considering she knew he was tired and din't want to speak much, but she tried earnestly still

Fong Fong: So how have you been doing ?

Wai-sun: (smiled at Fong Fong trying to be as nice as possible at this kind of time)I suppose you can say I have been holding up the best I can. Oh, by the way, thank you for visiting Cho-fai, considering I know you don't him that well and all.

Fong Fong: Oh don't mention it, Cho-fai is A-dee's friend so that means Cho-fai is my friend too!

Wai-sun: So do you consider me as a friend?

Fong Fong: (Paused, didn't know what ot say) Yes, of course! (trying to change the subject) I made some soup for Cho-fai, maybe you can bring it to him tomorrow, I might be busy tomorrow.

Wai-sun: Sure, I'm sure Cho-fai appreciates everything you are doing for him now.

They approached the hotel.

Wai-sun: Here let met take you up there.

Fong FOng: No that's fine!I don't want to bother you anymore. You should go home and get some rest.

Wai-sun: well then I will be leaving you now, I hope to see you again sometime!Good bye!

Wai-sun left leaving Fong Fong with a smile on her face. She ran into the hotel fastily and knocked on Chi-nam's room.

Fong Fong knocked on Chi-nam's door. There was no answer until a few minutes later, Fong Fong was about to give up and leave, but Chi-nam opened the door. She saw Chi-nam w/ dark circles under his eyes and his face pale and he looked a little thinner.

Chi-nam: oh, Fong Fong. Please come in.

Fong Fong sat in a chair opposite of Chi-nam. Chi-nam sat down with a big sigh. They both didn't say anything for awhile. Chi-nam took another big sigh and put his face in his hands. Fong Fong had a frown on her face, what was she supposed to do?Fong Fong went to Chi-nam and touched his shoulder gently.

Fong Fong: Is everything ok?

Chi-nam let his face out of his hands and faced Fong Fong.

Chi-nam: Tell me what to do Fong Fong, tell me what to do with my life!(tugging on Fong Fong's shirt)

Fong Fong: Please calm down Chi-nam! I can't tell you what to do w/ your life, the decision is up to you for what you want to do. You can either pick a good road or a bad road to go on, and I know you will do what is right.

Chi-nam:(yelling) But i don't know what is right! i don't know! All I know is that I see A-dee everyday w/ Cho-fai and all I can do is stand by and watch!I told A-dee I would wait for her, but how long do I have to wait!?

Chi-nam stood up and walked to the window and began looking at the sky. Fong Fong stood up also and walked toward where Chi-nam was.

Fong Fong: If you feel that you must wait for her and that is the right thing to do, then wait for her. If A-dee truly loves you,she will in return wait for you (pause) as long as it takes.

Fong Fong left Chi-nam's room quietly leaving Chi-nam still standing looking at the stars and sky.

*****

Fong Fong walked along the streets alone, wishing her friends would all be happy again, but she knew that would be quite impossible now. She wanted someone there with her to solace and comfort her there at the moment. She wanted Wai-sun there, but that would be impossible wouldn't it? She wished she could go see the fireworks ,go see the stars ,and laugh w/ Wai-sun all at the same time, but then what would Bo-bo do?Would Bo-bo be alone?Fong Fong thought of Bo-bo as a nice ,kind, pretty girl, and knew she was a great friend towards her, but friends do not betray other friends in stealing their lover right? *sigh* Wai-sun, why must it have been him?Fong Fong cried inside when she thought about Wai-sun, she always dreamt about him since he saved her life from the bad guy. She met him again by chance and knew that he was A-dee’s brother. But it was too late, it showed that he was in love with the other girl - Bo Bo. The love did not show physically, but in their hearts and the way they looked at each other, the way they touched each other. She had a chance to break up their relationship by being the third person, but she couldn't do that, they were bother her friends, and she did not want to hurt them for much of any reason. Fong Fong felt lonely at the moment. Her father was angry at her, she met the man who she loved but she had to keep inside, she felt she was an idiot. She saw the beautiful church in which she always went to ,to be alone. She was entering it when slowly, tears began rolling down her delicate face, she tried to find her handkerchief in her pocket, but instead,a hand showed up in front of her face with a handkerchief ,offering it to her. With a gentle voice the man said “Excuse me, Miss. Please take mine if you don’t mind.” Fong Fong looked up, she saw a man dressed in a buisness suit w/ a beautiful smile on his face. Being a little embarrassed, her face turned red and faced the man who was Wong Chi-zen. “I don’t mean to be rude, Miss. Please take my handkerchief. I have to go now.” He bowed to her, before he left Fong Fong said “Ah… thank you ,thank you very much!” Chi-zen turned back to her and smiled “Don’t worry miss. I'm sure everything will be OK for you in the end.” He left, leaving Fong Fong look at his back with wonderment

Chi-zen went back to the hotel .He was in Hong Kong for a while but he did not want to see Chi-nam yet. He had gotten some information about the people in Hong Kong, one martial arts school was opened, many people respected the master there, Master Chan. Not only was he very good in martial arts but he also taught to kids and helped the poor and destitute families. He saw the Master once, he was not an ordinary person. Chi-zen could tell he had a powerful personality. Another man was Master Yang, he had been in Hong Kong for over 20 years, this guy was very clever, he had one son named Yang Wai-sun, and one adopted girl called A-dee. Chi-zen was wondering if the two of them were the people that his boss Leung Yong suspected as betrayers, considering the 2 men stood out the most out of everybody being the most respected and honorable men.But why then would these two men be the betrayers? He could not get anymore information because no one had really known their background. Their background was secret, it might take longer than he thought to find out what it was.

Chi-zen was wondering about another thing, it was about Chi-nam. Chi-zen was older than Chi-nam, he never actually came close to him because Chi-nam was always in boarding school but he knew Chi-nam. Chi-nam did not get along with his father, Chi-zen took a sigh, his boss was a very keen business man, many people thought that he was a heartless person. Chi-zen had worked with him for a long period of time and he knew that his boss was very kind but the loss of his wife made him change and he became a man who cared for nothing. Chi-zen knew that his boss loved his son very much but he never showed his love but gave money to him instead. Chi-nam was spoiled, always around with many girls, and partying. He was clever but he did not want to take responsibility in his father's businesses. But two or three months when Chi-nam was in Hong Kong, something had changed. Chi-nam was never surrounded by many girls like before, the only one girl that he always hung around was the adopted girl A-dee. Chi-zen never saw Chi-nam care any girls but for this girl. Chi-nam treated her very specially. Chi-zen found out that Chi-nam paid for the hospital fee to save A-dee's friend who almost died by heart attack. It was amazing to see Chi-nam trying to do something for A-dee. But recently, he had not seen Chi-nam w/ A-dee anymore, but either at the hospital or in his room at the hotel. Maybe Chi-nam got to know love, Chi-zen smiled, then Fong Fong's sad face appeared in his mind. He sent some of his men to go spy on Chi-nam and they told him she was w/ Chi-nam most of the time and found out her name. He saw this girl once or twice when she was with A-dee and Chi-nam. Yes, she was pretty but always sad looking. Chi-zen wanted to wipe the sadness off her face and put a smile on the beautiful face, but there was nothing he could do now, he had many things to do. Lin Zia Hua was already in Hong Kong, Chi-zen knew that she came here to see Chi-nam. If his men gave him correct news, Fook Tin Yau was here too. This man was dangerous to Chi-nam, he was part of the Mafia but Chi-nam never knew about that, he thought that Tin Yau was his close friend until the day Tin Yau tried to kill him. Fook Tin Yau must have come here with his purpose. Chi-zen told himself that he must watch this Fook Tin Yau carefully,or else trouble would start rising.

There were voices of laughter mainly coming from a women coming out of a garden. It was the voices of Ziu Hua and Tin Yau. They were both in the garden of the hotel Tin Yau was staying at. Tin Yau was both listening to what Ziu Hua was saying and what he was going to do about the weapons he never got. Their conversations were interrupted when on of Ziu Hua's servant called at Ziu Hua

Servant: Miss Lin!

Ziu Hua: Yes?

Servant: (speaking towards Ziu Hua only)I need to speak to you in private please.

Ziu Hua: (turning to look at Tin Yau, smiling) I'm sorry about this, I must leave now, but do not worry, I will come back here in a few minutes.

Tin Yau smiled and nodded his head.

Ziu Hua walked toward the servant and they both went to a room and the servant closed the door.

Ziu Hua: Yes? What is it?

Servant: I beleive it is time now to go and find Master Chi-nam at Hong Kong now.

Hearing Chi-nam's name, Ziu Hua thought in wonderment of why Chi-nam had not returned to Shanghai to wed her.Everything was ready and setup in Shanghai, except there was no Chi-nam. Ziu Hua wanted to go look for Chi-nam herself to talk with him, but with her luck, she met Tin Yau too.

Servant: Miss Lin? Miss Lin? Are you there?

Ziu Hua stepped out of her daydream.

Ziu Hua: I'm listening.

Servant: I have setup the car to take you to the city, we are just waiting for you now.

Ziu Hua: Give me a few minutes, I will be there.

And with that, Ziu Hau left the room to go back to the awaiting Tin Yau. She saw Tin Yau looking at the small pond with a peaceful look on his face, almost afraid to break the silence by speaking.

Ziu Hua: Tin Yau?

Tin Yau turned around to her suddenly and smiled

Tin Yau: You're back!

Ziu Hua: (smiling)Yes, but I'm afraid I must leave again!I have some buisness to do here in Hong Kong. If you don't mind, I must leave now.

Tin Yau: Buisness?( Looking at Ziu Hua all over)A girl like you doing buisness?(laughing)

Ziu Hua: (smiling) I musn't speak any more, there is a car waiting for me, please remember to get some rest while i'm gone!

And with that, she turned her back and left. Tin Yau didn't think she was that bad, she was the only actual friend he had in all these years. He knew he couldn't think about women now, he must think about Chi-nam, and only Chi-nam. He must kill Chi-nam once and for all.

****

A car was slowly going down a small road. Ziu Hua and her servant were both riding in the car sitting in the backseats.

Servant: Miss Lin, how do you expect to find Master Chi-nam in Hong Kong?

Ziu Hua: Don't worry, there will most likely be many people there who know where he is. Everyone knows who Leung Chi-nam is, everybody...

*****

In Chi-nam's room, he was laying on his bed staring at the ceiling. He had not gone to sleep the whole night, but rather thinking of what Fong Fong said to him. The right road? But what was the right road to go on? He still could not think of what to do. He sat up suddenly, looked at the clock and grabbed his jacket and went out the door to the hospital.

****

A-dee was the only one in Cho-fai's room. She was the only one there and had stayed with him the whole night. He still had not waken up, but she was sure in her heart that he would not leave her and die. She watched him intently one last time before leaving the room to go get a knife to cut some fruits. When she stepped out of the room into the hallway, she saw Chi-nam there breathing hardly from rushing to the hospital.

A-dee: Chi-nam?!Are you ok?

Chi-nam did not speak for a moment trying to catch his breath.

Chi-nam: I, *breathe*, I came here to see you. *breathe*

A-dee: Me? Why did you want to see me so soon?

Chi-nam finally calmed down and looked straight at A-dee's face.

Chi-nam: I want to speak to you alone.

They both went into the front garden of the hospital and walked awhile before speaking.

Chi-nam: (turned to face A-dee's face)I know you are taking care and being besdie Cho-fai now, but I want you to know I will be waiting for you.

A-dee: Yes, you already told me that. (she turned her back at Chi-nam while speaking, not wanting to face him)

Chi-nam rushed to A-dee's side to see her face and look at her

Chi-nam: I want you to know what I will wait for you (pause)forever. No matter how long it takes. If you choose to stay by Cho-fai's side forever, it will not matter to me. AS long as I know that you and I once had fun together and both once smiled at each other, then that is fine with me. Fong Fong told me to choose the right road, at first I didnt' know what it was, but now I do. It was to go on with life being happy and I know that at first you and I were never what you call friends, but as I got to know you, you have become more than a friend to me, I thought of you as many things, it's just if you thought of the same things about me. (silence)All I want to know now, is, (pause)did you ever once love me?

A-dee: (tears began rolling down her face) (it took her a few minutes to answer, gathering her thoughts) I, I don't know.

Chi-nam: (smiled) I suppose it doesn't matter anyways, right?

Chi-nam walked off, leaving A-dee standing there crying. Chi-nam was walking pushing himself to make a smile come out of his mouth, but in the end, instead a tear came out of his eyes....

While Ziu Hua was gone, Tin Yau was hoping to go back to the ships to see if his weapons were still there in good condition. But it was quite impossible since there were too many servants watching him hoping he would get some rest as Ziu Hua had said so. Ziu Hua had told her servants to keep a close eye on Tin Yau to make sure he would take his medicine and get some sleep. Tin Yau went into his room, thinking of a way to get out and not hoping to hurt anybody on the way out. He slowly and quietly opened the door again, and seeing that all the servants were both chit chattering and walking around, he quietly sneaked out of his room avoidding the people and opened the main door to the hotel and was let out into the world. Tin Yau breathed a big breath meeting the world again and being able to find, and of course kill Chi-nam.

*****

After Wai-sun had left Fong Fong at the hotel, he decided to go back to the hospital, having to look at his friend again. He walked slowly not having much of any rush and almost reached the hospital doors but also seeing Bo-bo coming out of the hospital doors. After Bo-bo turned around, she saw Wai-sun. Both of them were just standing and looking at each other intently as if hoping either one would talk or leave. Bo-bo was the first to speak

Bo-bo: So you took Fong Fong to the hotel?

WAi-sun: Yes. And you? Are you going home now?

Bo-bo: Yes, I was hoping to go home now and come back here tomorrow.

Wai-sun: Oh ,I see. Here, let me take you home too.

Bo-bo: (Quickly answered)No! I mean, that's ok, I can walk home alone.

Wai-sun: No I insist.

Bo-bo: No, it's fine,really.

Wai-sun: But I want to. (silence)

Wai-sun: (smiling, hoping to break the awkward silence) Here, we can get some late night snack on the way, how about noodles?

Bo-bo: Sure! That would be a great idea!

They both were walking and laughing not having to think of their sick friend Cho-fai for once. Bo-bo was releived to be having such a nice talk with Wai-sun for once and Wai-sun was actually happy too, talking with a girl, not just any girl, Bo-bo. They were laughing so much and walking down the streets that they didn't notice that Fong Fong was standing walking towards them. Fong Fong noticed them first with their laughter and stopped walking and stood there looking at them. Fong Fong didn't know what to think, she seemed embarassed to be caught standing there seeing those two, but then she felt sad, and then of course mad. Bo-bo was the first to notice that Fong Fong was there

Bo-bo: Fong Fong?

Wai-sun turned around and looked and saw Fong Fong too.His smile quickly gone.

Wai-sun: Fong Fong? Didn't i just take you to the hotel?

Fong Fong: I, I ,well yes, but I only had a short talk with Chi-nam.

There was another awkward silence, now between the three of them. Bo-bo looked at Wai-sun, hoping he would say anything and Fong Fong just looked down, not wanting to face the two.

Wai-sun: We were just about to go and get some noodles, would you like to join us?

Fong Fong: No,that is ok, I'm not hungry. (she smiled and walked off, about to leave, but Bo-bo stopped her)

Bo-bo: (cathing up to Fong Fong) No,please don't leave, we would love your company!

Wai-sun: Besides, I just remembered that I must return home to see my father, I haven't gone home in awhile.

Bo-bo: Yeah, don't tell me you don't want to keep me company, I don't bite! (she gave Fong Fong and enthusiastic smile)

Fong Fong: No, of course I know you don't bite! I, I, sure, of course then.

Bo-bo: Good!

Wai-sun: Well, I hope you two ladies have fun, I must be going now, good bye!

Both girls said there good byes to Wai-sun and were deciding where to eat.

Bo-bo: Here, why don't we go to that place right over there, I hear it is really good!

Fong FOng: (smiled) Sure, whatever you say!

They went to the little shop selling noodles. They both sat down and ordered some hot noodles.

Bo-bo: So, I've never really got to know you that much, why don't you tell me about yourself!

Fong Fong: Me?(a little embaraased) There's really not that much to know about me though!

Bo-bo: Sure there is!Come on, tell me!

Their hot noodles arrived and minutes later, voices of girls laughter and talk could be heard down the streets and everywhere....

Chi-nam walked away from A-dee, having a smile on his face, but the minute his back was turned to her, he could no longer hold it and a tear fell down his face. He quickly wiped it away w/ his hand. He didn't want to feel like a loser for crying because of a girl, and he especially did not want to see A-dee see him crying, feel sorry for him. He still had his pride to keep up right?Chi-nam walked down the streets alone, not caring for anybody around him aand just walking. The days were getting colder now. Chi-nam hoped it wouldn't snow. His mother had once told him that when he was young, that when it snowed, he would be able to make a beautiful snowman. BUt it never snowed until the day his mother died and Chi-nam was never able to make a snowman with his mother before she died. Ever since then, Chi-nam didn't like the snow, it only caused him to think of painful memories, memories he wished would go away forever...
