SETTING: Some time around the setting in "Coincedentally,” around the 1920s.

[It was pouring down with rain and you can see two men standing there on the streets alone.]

Chi-Nam: You have betrayed me when I have trusted you all along. Who do you think you are?

Tin-Bak: You know exactly who I am! Your father killed my father when I was young leaving my whole family with nothing! Nothing! We were poor, but I knew one day I would get revenge on you and your family! And what luck, your father is dead!! and you are the perfect bait!

Chi-Nam: What good will it do by killing me? Will killing me give you your father back? I, Leung Chi- Nam, have always been faithful to my friends, but you are no friend!

Tin-Bak: Shut up! You are to me a rich and spoiled person, so how you call yourself a faithful person! I have had enough of this!

[Tin- Bak takes out his gun quickly from under his jacket but Chi-Nam took out his gun at almost the exact same time. Both men were standing with guns pointing at each other and the rain pouring down their faces. (This is supposed to be a, well, not scary scene, but I don't know what the word is I'm looking for)]

[Many people were running around hoping to get out of the rain. In another street including a girl , A-dee]

A-dee: I must hurry up and return back to Siu-ye (master) or I will get yelled at again!! What bad luck I have today, it's pouring down with rain! The tin (sky) must be playing tricks with me!

[A-dee ran as fast as she could and ran down the street and was about to turn the corner when suddenly she almost slipped but she caught herself. She was still sitting besides a wall panting and trying to catch her breath when she stood up and turned around to start walking again, she saw the two men with guns facing each other]

A-dee: AAHHH!!(She stood there with her eyes opened and trying to grab something to balance herself since she was so frightened.)

[Tin-Bak pointed the gun at A-dee]

Tin-Bak: Chi- Nam, since you say you are such a faithful person then I guess you would not mind if I shot that girl over there, wouldn't you? (Pointing at A-dee)

Chi- Nam: What are you doing?! The girl has absolutely nothing to do with this, leave her out of it!

Tin-Bak: My father never did anything and he got killed anyway! What do you have to say about this! I want you to see how hurting an innocent person is so painful!

[A-dee just stood there the whole time, while her eyes were getting wider and wider and her heart beating faster and faster]

Chi- Nam: I'm warning, if you shoot I will...

Tin-Bak: Will what? Kill me too! You don't have the guts!

BOOM!

BOOM!

[There was smoke everywhere coming out from the guns shot. Everything is a blur now]

[Finally the smoke clears, and we see A-dee on the ground with blood coming out from her stomach]

THE BETRAYAL: EPISODE II

CHARACTERS:

Annie Man Chung Han- A-dee

Kenny Lin Chih Hao- Leung Chi- Nam

Stephen Au Kam Tong- Kwan Cho- Fai

Kristy Yang- "Fong Fong" (nickname)

Wong Mei- Kwok Hoi- Yee

Eric Wan- Yang Wai- Sun

Joey Men Yee Man-Lee Bo-yun "Bo-Bo nickname"

First the evil guy; who used to be Kenny’s best friend shot Annie, he then proceeded to shoot Kenny. At this time Kenny was planning to move to help Annie, but the evil guy who didn’t play by the rules shot him in his moment of weakness. After that, the evil guy left the scene thinking that Annie and Kenny were dead.

However, luckily or unluckily (depending on the view of the reader) for Annie and Kenny, at this time, there were a group of kidnappers who had to kidnap two people because they were short of two people to send off to America. They found Annie and decided that she could become a prostitute and they decided that Kenny could be a slave. Anyway, these kidnappers found Annie and Kenny lying on the ground unconscious, so they just took them too. However the big boat which had all the people who were going to be sent off to America had already been sent off. So the evil kidnappers put Annie and Kenny onto a smaller boat so that they could try and reach the big boat.

While still in the boat, Kenny and Annie slowly woke up, however they didn't know where they were. After listening at the cabin door, they realised that they were going to be sent off to America to be sold as slaves. Kenny and Annie then planned to escape when they had a chance, otherwise they would die in the process. Their opportunity came when the two evil kidnappers came into the cabin to get some food. Annie and Kenny knocked them over the head and then ran outside, however, they didn’t realise that there were three people on the boat, so the third person pointed his gun at Annie and said “Both of you back into the cabin, if not I will shoot her.”

However, Annie who did not want to become a prostitute thought that she would rather die, so she jumped overboard. When Kenny saw this he also jumped overboard. Like I said before, Annie would rather die than become a prostitute, as a result when she jumped overboard, she thought that she was going to die. This was not because of the gun, but because of the fact that she didn’t know how to swim. When Kenny saw this, he swam towards her and he helped her. The third man on the small boat didn’t stop the boat to kill them because he thought that they would eventually perish in the ocean, he felt this was a fitting death for injuring his two partners.

In the sea Kenny held Annie up so that she wouldn’t sink and eventually he helped swim both to shore. I forgot to mention that by the time that Annie and Kenny jumped overseas, the boat had traveled a really long way, so now Kenny and Annie were really far away from their hometown.

When they both woke up, they didn’t know where they were, they both decided to travel to the nearest town. Along the journey, Annie and Kenny got to know each other. When they talked they eventually decided that they would try to find the nearest town and then ask where they were and then from there decide what to do next. At the same time, they also thought it would be easier if they pretended to be brothers and sisters.

When Annie and Kenny finally reached the big city, Annie was alarmed to find out that they were really far from their hometown. They then decided that they would try to earn a living and then use the money to try and go back home. Annie and Kenny then both went out to find a job. After the first day in the city, they realised that the only jobs available were really hard jobs that needed strength. The city had an abundance of people who were willing to work hard for little pay, this was because they had come from the country since there was a drought.

Annie and Kenny also found a room to live in, however, because they had claimed to be brothers and sisters, the innkeeper told them to share a room to save money as room prices were really expensive. I just want to mention a bit about Kenny’s characteristics, I think that we should make it that in the beginning that he is a selfish person, doesn’t like working hard etc.

Anyway, after Kenny worked at his job for not even one day, he quit because he couldn’t hack working so hard and it was too humiliating. He had never before worked in his life because he was a rich kid. Even though Annie didn’t like his decision not to work at that job anymore, Annie didn’t say anything. She stayed with him because he had saved her life, without him she would now be dead. Kenny never did find another job to his liking because he said that all of them were too hardworking and degrading for him. Annie would also work hard at her job and everyday hide it in a tin.

Kenny at this time had found a group of other no-good people to hang around with, and they did nothing all day. Kenny also has a weak personality, (by the end of the story we should make many things happen to him so that he becomes a strong willed person, doesn’t care what other people say about him etc). One day his no-good friends told him that they wanted to go and gamble and to visit the prostitute house. However, Kenny told them he didn’t have enough money. All of his friends then began to jeer at him and told him that he was useless and if that was the case, he couldn’t go with them. Like I said, his friends were not true friends, if they had been they would have said that he could go with them and that they would pay for him. Well when Kenny’s friends left him, he was not at all happy and with nowhere else to go he went home with a bottle of beer in his hand.

By the time he reached home, he was fully drunk and he got more and more angry over what his so-called friends had said about him. He thought that he was just as good as them and that he also had money to spend but he didn’t want to spend it because he wanted to save it to go home. The more he thought about it the more angry he became so he took the money in Annie’s tin and went to find his friends. We all know what happens next don’t we, he spent it all.

THE BETRAYAL: EPISODE III

CHARACTERS:

Kenny Lin Chih Hao- Leung Chi- Nam

Stephen Au Kam Tong- Kwan Cho- Fai

Kristy Yang- "Fong Fong" (nickname)

Wong Mei- Kwok Hoi- Yee

Eric Wan- Yang Wai- Sun

Joey Men Yee Man-Lee Bo-yun "Bo-Bo nickname"

However, when he and his friends had just spent half of their money and were walking towards the prostitute house, just before they walked into the prostitute house, Annie saw Kenny. She came up to him and asked him what he was doing and because he was in front of his friends, he replied cockily “I am going inside, none of your business.”

Annie: “Where did you get the money you are going to spend?”

Kenny: “None of your business”

Annie then realised where he had gotten the money from. She then said “I want back my money you can’t use it to spend on prostitutes don’t you want to go back home?!”

Kenny was undecided for a minute, but during this time though his friends began to say, “Kenny are you scared of a female, there is no need, she is only a female, tell her to go away, we still have to go inside.”

Kenny after hearing this from his friends, told Annie to go home and to leave him alone.

However, Annie wouldn’t have any of this she started to try and find the money on him however, he pushed her really hard (he was in front of his friends remember, he wanted to show them that he was cool!) and she fell and hit her head on the ground. Kenny then left her and went inside.

When Annie finally pulled herself up, she went home and immediately looked for her tin but she couldn’t find it. She was checking because she half hoped that Kenny had found money elsewhere and had not taken their hard-earned money.

Kenny had taken Annie’s hard earned money in a drunken state, after he woke up in the prostitute place, his head was pounding and he felt really guilty about having taken Annie’s money and pushing her onto the ground. When he went home and walked through the door, Annie came flying towards him and started hitting him on the chest and said

“Why did you take my money?, after a week I would have had enough for both of us to go home.”

She also started to cry and said

“I hate you, you never work. I do all the hard work to earn some money so we could go home but you spent it like water on prostitutes”

She then ran out the door!!! During all this time, Kenny had stood still and let Annie hit him because he knew that he was guilty.

It was now night time, Kenny was becoming really worried as Annie still hadn’t come home. He was worried because Annie had always waited up for him whenever he had come home late. But today she was nowhere to be seen. He was also really worried as outside it was pouring, and he was feeling guilty because of the prostitute incident. He then went outside to try and look for her. After looking for her on many streets he found her, she was on the ground and her head was bleeding.

When Annie had been walking on the streets so upset by Kenny, someone had tried to steal her money off her, she had just receive her wages that day. However, Annie wasn’t scared of robbers so she tried to stop the robber, but the robber was too strong for her and punched her so that she fell onto the ground and hit her head in the same place where Kenny had pushed her that afternoon. She had lain there unconscious until Kenny had found her.

When Kenny saw her lying on the ground in a big heap with blood on her head, he started to run towards her and tried to wake her up. However, Annie wouldn’t wake up. He then gently lifted her up from the ground and carried her in his arms. This is supposed to be a sentimental scene between them. Slowly he carried her and tried to find a doctor. However no doctor would help Annie unless he had money. He then went to find his friends to try and borrow money from them.

However, his friends would not lend him any money. They told him

“If you had money to go and gamble with us, then you should have money to spend on your sister. Anyway it was your own fault for having pushed her in the first place.”

Kenny was so astonished, he had thought them to be his true friends, he then told them,

“I thought you were my true friends, why aren’t you lending me the money, it is a very small amount, compared to the amount I lent you to gamble today.” One of the friends then said,

“There is only true friendship when money is involved, and without money, there is no friendship at all. However, if you kneel down and walk through my legs, I might consider lending you the money. Your attitude is too cocky, it is about time you learnt who was the boss.”

Kenny said “no!” His friends then said, “What about your sister, Don’t you love her.” and they pointed towards her and then said “If you can bear to let her die, then don’t do it.” Kenny then looked at her and he was shocked at what he saw. In the space of when he found her, and now, her complexion had deteriorated, she looked like she was on the verge of dying. What Kenny didn’t know was that Annie had woken up and was lying there listening. Inside of Kenny, a war was waging in him. Annie had always said that his friends where no good and she had been proven correct but the lesson had come at the expense of her life.

He then finally nodded his head, and his friends all started to laugh. They then said, “however, you have taken too long to decide not only do you have to crawl under one person’s leg but you have to do it for all of us and at the same time cry out Master, master I am a dog!!!

At this Annie began to speak, “Kenny, don’t kneel and humiliate yourself, even if I should live, the cost is too much. A man should never kneel to another. Take me away from here.” Kenny looked at her sadly, then he turned towards his ex-friends. Annie realised his intentions and tried to lift her head, however, a sharp pain swept threw her, she then cried out “no” before she fainted from the pain.

After Kenny had done this humiliating task, his ex-friends then threw him the money. He then picked up Annie and left. In the streets he started to cry and his tears mixed with the rain. He had learnt a very humiliating lesson. (This is the first lesson that Kenny has learnt, he is on the way to becoming a changed person.) He learnt that those people had not been his true friends and that next time he wouldn’t be so trusting. He had not wanted to work hard because it had been humiliating but here he had to act like a dog.

By the time he found a doctor who was willing to cure Annie for the small amount of money he had, the doctor told him “I am sorry you have taken her to me too late, at the same time, it seems that the same spot in her head has been hurt twice, if she survives this night, then she will live, if not prepare for her burial.” Kenny then started to beg the doctor to please help Annie, but the doctor just said, “I am sorry. Just remember to heat up the room and build up the fire, that is all the advice which I can give you.”

That night, Kenny held tightly onto Annie’s hand and he tried to care for her as best as he could. That night he talked to Annie. He begged her not to die, and said “I am sorry for the things that have happened, if you don’t die, I promise you I will start to work hard and accept a degrading job, just please don’t die.”

The next morning, the rain had cleared and a bright new day had appeared, Annie opened her eyes.

A-Dee : (still shocked) What happened?

Master Yang : 18 years ago, when Japanese Army came to occupy China, your father and I pretended as spies and sent all secrets planned to the Chinese Army. Our operation was always a success. One day we helped one Japanese man and counted him as friend. But who knows, he betrayed us by telling our position to Japanese General. We luckily escaped from jail though. Your father got very injured and your Mom was dead during the war. Your father could not take you with him because it would danger too your life. A-Dee : (tried to control herself) Master, what happened with the man who betrayed you and my father?

Master Yang : (sigh!) He is now in Shanghai, very rich and powerful. He changed his name and I cannot find him but I do remember him even if I did see him again.

Cho-Fai : I know, that's why I came here today.

[Wai-Sun looked at him, he knew Cho-Fai liked A-Dee, they grew up together and A-Dee thought Cho-Fai was her another brother.]

Wai-Sun : (looked at him and spoke carefully) Cho-Fai, I know you like A-Dee. I suggest you should tell her.

Cho-Fai : (he looked the other way and didn't speak for awhile, there was silence)I am not brave enough. I am afraid if I tell her I will lose her trust. I will wait until the right time and I will tell her.

Wai-sun : But if you still keep it silent one day A-Dee might meet a new guy. What are you going to do?

Cho-Fai : (his face looked worried) I have no idea.

IN A HOTEL

GUEST CHARACTER

Female: Chi Nam’s old love interest

[Chi Nam then went walking outside. He had no desire to get married. He did not want to become like his father. His father had loved his mother so much that on the day that his mother had died, his father’s personality had completely changed. Chi Nam had been only ten years old at the time.]

Chi Nam’s father had turned from a loving caring father into someone who was cold and distant. Someone who could only think of making more and more money. Chi Nam’s family had already been well off when his mother died, but his father had not been satisfied. His father started to spend more and more time working making more and more money, but he never spent it!!!

Chi Nam could only wonder, did his father want to take the money to the grave with him???!!! (Chi Nam is very bitter that from the day his mother had died, his father never spent time with him. Whenever Chi Nam had went to see his father, looking for someone to talk to, to wash away his tears when he had been hurt, his father just gave Chi Nam money and told him to not bother him as he had a lot of work today. As a result, his family had become one of the richest families in Hong Kong. But what is money compared to a parent’s love??? Money cannot smooth away hurt, your bruises, money does not listen to you, pay attention to you, money cannot talk to you and most importantly money does not love you!!! For this reason alone, Chi Nam hated money, he wanted to spend as much of it as he could because to him, it was tainted. Money had taken away his father’s love.)

Chi Nam: I won’t marry her!!! I will never get married!!! I swear that I will never become emotionally dependant upon anyone for my emotional security. I have lived to this day and age without anyone loving me, looking out for me when bullies attacked me (Chi Nam was talking about his father) I don’t need anyone.

(Chi Nam’s father’s attitude only partly explained the reason why Chi Nam does not want to become emotionally dependent upon anyone. There is also another reason why Chi Nam has no intention of getting married!!!)

Chi Nam: All females only want to marry me because of how wealthy I am. Without my money, no female would ever look at me twice, he then remembered back to the past when he had been just a mere youth of 18 years old)

(When Chi Nam had been 18 years old, the first time he visited a prostitute house the first female he was introduced to with, he fell in love with. She was a very pretty sort of female, she had been able to make Chi Nam fall for her because she had recognised in him his loneliness, hence she made him feel like that he was the most important man in her life. Chi Nam felt loved, that someone existed in the world who wanted to talk to him, ask him about he had been doing, in general made him feel love. Chi Nam had not cared that she had been a prostitute, he thought he had loved her and he was going to buy her from the “pleasure house” so that she would never have to work there again, on the day that he had collected enough money to buy her from the “pleasure house” he had hurried from his house to the “pleasure house” and without informing anyone in the “pleasure house” he had hurried to her room, wanting to surprise her with the knowledge that he had come to buy her from there. However outside of her door, he heard her voice and another man’s voice.

Female: Don’t leave yet!!!

Male: I have to go, what happens if Chi Nam comes? He is after all, your only way out of here. After he buys you from here I won’t ever be able to visit you again.

Female: Don’t be silly, you can always come to see me, I will just tell Chi Nam that you are my cousin. Chi Nam won’t become suspicious. He loves me too much and he is so naiive in the way of the worlds. He won’t think that anything exists between us.

Male: So what is the use of visiting you, you don’t belong to me you don’t even love me!!! Why can’t you wait for me, in a few more months I will have enough money to buy your from here. Why won’t you wait for me, you don’t love me do you???

Female: Now, now you know that I love you, but you also know that I can’t live in poverty. I must marry Chi Nam because he is rich. Only he can give me the “material things” that I crave for. Chi Nam may have my body but I swear that it is only you that I love. I only love Chi Nam’s money.

Upon hearing these words, Chi Nam burst into the room and said

Chi Nam: If you love my money so much, here have this (he thrusted her the bag of money)

The female started to protest, but Chi Nam yelled “I HEARD EVERYTHING, THERE IS NOTHING LEFT BETWEEN US!!!”

With that Chi Nam left her

From that day onwards coupled with his father’s indifference to him, Chi Nam had sworn to himself that he would never become emotionally dependent upon anyone)

Upon deciding that he, Chi Nam, wouldn’t marry Lin Zia-hua, he decided that the best course of action for him to do was not to go back home. If he didn’t go back home a wedding couldn’t take place. After having made his decision he then went off to the gambling and prostitute houses.

Early the next morning when Chi Nam left the “house of pleasure” he was walking drunkenly along the road when he accidentally tripped over a basket which groceries in it.

Chi Nam: Who put that stupid basket in the middle of the road???

He then turned around and who should he see??? It was A-dee

A-dee had already begun to pick up the food scattered from the basket was saying:

A-dee: I am so sorry Mister can you please forgive me. I just put the basket down for a moment because it was so heavy.

A dee then looked up and then saw Chi Nam.

A-dee said angrily: You, are you the one who tripped over my basket of food. I take back my apologies. You should have tripped over the basket and cracked your stupid head instead.

Chi Nam said astonishingly: What??? Is that the way you speak to someone who saved your life from drowning!!!

A-dee: If it hadn’t been because of you, I wouldn’t have been injured and kidnapped in the first place. I WOULDN’T HAVE HAD TO WORK TO SUPPORT YOU, SO THAT YOU COULD SPEND ALL OF MY HARD EARN WAGES ON WOMEN AND GAMBLING. (A-dee was still angry over how he had taken her money and spent it all and then pushing her on the ground, so that she had hit her head, it was still hurting till today, more than usual today)

Chi Nam said arrogantly: I went to visit you that day at the Doctor’s. If you hadn’t done a disappearing act I would have paid back the money that I “BORROWED” from you with interest. Here let me pay you now.

Chi Nam then pulled into his pocket to get some money, but before he could give it to A-dee

A-dee: No need, I don’t want anything from you. You are bad luck. Every single time I meet you something bad always happens to me. From now on, if I see you I will pretend that you don’t exist. Agree that is the biggest favour you could do for me.

Chi Nam yelped: What you don’t want to know me? Do you know who I am, how rich I am (he emphasized this).

A-dee yelled: Didn’t you hear me, if we ever meet again I will pretend that I don’ know you. You are bad luck. Every single time I see you, something bad happens to me!!!

By this time, a group of people had surrounded Chi Nam and A-dee to watch them, as they had both been yelling very loudly and everyone could hear their conversation. A-dee then realised this and turned red in the face and yelled at Chi Nam again:

A-dee: Look now everyone is looking at us, it is all your fault. Oh no, my family is going to hear about this. Me screaming like a fishwife in the streets, how embarrassing. It’s all your fault!!!

A-dee then pushed past Chi Nam and ran away.

Chi Nam was so stunned, someone was yelling at him. He who was so rich. He couldn’t believe it, however he had to stop thinking about this as his head was hurting so much, he had a hangover. Chi Nam then told the crowd:

Chi Nam: Well what is everyone staring at. The excitement is over, go home.

Someone from the crowd then yelled out: We didn’t mean to watch you and our missus fight. It’s just that you were in the middle of the road and we all want to go to the end of the road where a new “martial arts” place will be opening. The master there has said that anyone who could defeat any single one of his students, then he will give the winner a bag full of gold.

Chi Nam: really, I have to go and see this as well!!!

After Chi Nam had the big argument with A-dee he then heard that a new martial arts place was opening and the Master there would give a bag of gold to anyone who could defeat any of his students. So Chi Nam decided to go and see.

At the martial arts place there was a huge crowd, the Master of the Martial Arts School with his eldest disciple who was crippled were standing in front of the school, surrounded by the school’s students. Then the Master announced:

Master: Welcome, here’s a bag of gold, if you can defeat any of my students, the bag of gold is yours!!

Many men had tried to fight with the Master’s students, however the Master’s students all one by one defeated them. Chi Nam was watching the fighting when suddenly he found himself next to A-dee who was also watching the fighting. A dee felt someone move against her, she turned around to see who it was and saw Chi Nam. She immediately turned back towards the front of the stage and pretended to ignore him, like he didn’t exist. Chi-Nam then got angry but before he could say anything the Master said

Master: Until now no one has been able to defeat my students, I know there must be someone brave in the crowd so please come on out!

Someone in the crowd then recognised Chi Nam. They then proceeded to say to Chi Nam:

Someone from the crowd: Chi Nam why don’t you show this Master and his school how good your kung fu is. You always brag about how good you are. Why don’t you show him and let us all see your Kung Fu.

Chi-Nam thought – Should I or shouldn’t I?

A dee whispered quietly to herself, thinking Chi Nam couldn’t hear her: He is probably bad at Kung Fu that is why he is taking so long to decide!!!

Chi Nam thought to himself - I will try then, so that everyone can see how good my Kung Fu is especially A Dee.

Chi-Nam shouted : I’m in.

Chi Nam came out from the crowded, A-dee still ignored him.

Master: Welcome, Brother. Who would you like to fight with?

Chi Nam then pointed to a very skinny student who looked weak. Chi-Nam and the skinny weak guy began to fight on a stage. Chi-Nam was not very good in martial arts and he had underestimated his opponent. The guy who looked weak was actually very powerful. After a few rounds, Chi Nam had gotten all bruised and bloodied. His face was now all red and purple, but he wouldn’t admit defeat. The people in the crowd were also “booing” him and “cheering” the weak guy on. (In this city, no one liked Chi Nam because he was a very snobby person and always flaunted his money.) Chi Nam thought to himself even if I do die, I won’t let this crowd laugh at me, especially A Dee. However, Chi Nam was no match for his opponent and with one powerful kick his opponent had kicked Chi Nam off the stage. Chi Nam then went flying through the air and landed on his back. His whole body was hurting but no one would help him up. Instead everyone began to laugh at him and said, “Money is no good is it Mister Chi Nam when it comes to fighting, you can’t even beat someone half your size” (they were the same people who had urged him to try and fight. If he had won they would have supported him and said “we are proud that you have defeated the Master’s student, but because he had lost, they jeered at him).”

At this moment, someone also challenged another student from the school. Everyone in the crowd then moved away from Chi Nam to look at the fighting. No one helped Chi Nam, by this time he was unconscious. A Dee was also going to go and watch the new fighting, however when she saw that no-one was willing to help Chi Nam, her conscious told her that even if she didn’t like the guy, she should still help him. When she asked if anyone would help her move Chi Nam no one looked her in the eye. As a result, she was forced to help Chi Nam up by herself, who was still unconscious. She slowly lift him up and slowly moved him towards the side of an alley so that he would be out of the sunlight and away from the crowd.

When Chi-nam slowly woke up, he was in a sitting position and he had a very bad headache and found that his whole body was hurting so much that he wanted to die. He then looked up and saw A-dee, who was kneeling beside him and trying to make him drink some water so that he would wake up. He was very thirsty, so he greedily gulped down a lot of water however to him the water didn’t taste very nice and then accidentally spat it out again into her face and onto her clothes.

Chi Nam: What was that??? Are you trying to poison me???

A dee then stood up angrily: You creep!!! Is this the way you repay me for helping you when you were unconscious and no one wanted to help you!!!

A-dee then proceeded to wipe away all the water on her and said: Yuck, now I have your germs on me. I knew I shouldn’t have helped you and pretended to ignore you instead. Another bad thing has happened to me, I have been spat upon.

A-dee then started to walk away.

Chi Nam: Wait where are you going?

A-dee: You have woken up and you had the ability to complain about the water that I gave you and spit it back out again. I think you now have the ability to look after yourself and go home by yourself.

Chi Nam: Don’t go!!! Could you just help me up and assist me back to my house. I don’t think I am strong enough to walk home by myself. I think I have sprained and ankle when I was fighting.

A dee: Why did you fight then if you knew your kung fu was bad?!!!! When you were up on the stage everyone could tell that you were no match for your opponent. You really underestimated your opponent, you were too cocky by half and now you deserve everything you got!!!

A-dee then started to laugh, not in a cruel way but because Chi Nam had finally gotten his just desserts. At the same time, Chi Nam’s face started to grow really red and he was looking like he was about to murder her. A-dee then realised what she had done, she quickly said: Here, I’ll help you up and then back to your house. Chi Nam realised he couldn’t yell at her like he wanted to, if not, she would leave him and no one would help him back home.

As A-dee was helping Chi Nam walk home when they then heard the master speak to the crowd.

Master: I am very sorry for everyone who has tried to defeat my students but have not been able to, but instead were injured in the process. Please forgive them. If anyone is seriously hurt, please come to my school and I and my students will nurse you back to help. Today’s match was just a demonstration of my student’s skills. Everyone who tried to compete all underestimated my students. Some men chose my student’s who were either Chubby, too Skinny or who did not look very powerful. They each and everyone underestimated my students. I have taught each of my students a kung fu style that suits with their physical capabilities. I am trying to say, that each and everyone one of us has a special and unique skill that only we can exploit. If we learn to recognise our unique skill, then each and everyone of us will become successful in our own way. My school is here to help everyone realise their full potential. People who want to learn Kung Fu are free to become my disciples. At the same time, my school will also teach people to read and write. So if you want to learn either of these things please come. At the same time, my school will also accept orphanages. My school is here to help the poor and needy!!!

The crowd then started to cheer: Long live the Master. Long live the Master. Long live the Master!!!

(Why is the Master of this school so nice??? What is the reason behind his kindness??? The reason is because a long time ago, he use to have a wife and daughter (if she had been alive she would now be Annie’s age), however during Japan’s occupation he had lost contact with them when he was in the army. After the war he tried as hard as he could to find them until one day someone told him that they had died from starvation. After their death he had been mad with grief and had wanted to commit suicide. On the day that he had decided to commit suicide and join his wife and daughter, he was near a river and he heard a young boy’s voice plaintively crying out

Boy: Father please don’t sell me. I don’t want to become a slave. Father please don’t sell me!!!

The boy was crying and holding tightly onto his father’s pants. However, the father just ignored his son. The father was talking to a fat looking man who said.

Fat looking man: I will pay you 50 silver coins for your son. He will become a slave in my house and work for me

Father of the boy: Okay, give me the money.

The fat man gave the boy’s father the money.

Boy: Father, please don’t sell me, I don’t want to become a slave in his house. I heard that no one has ever lasted under his rule for more than 3 years. He works everyone too hard and doesn’t feed them enough. Once they can’t work for him anymore, he then throws them onto the street. Father please don’t sell me!!!

The father of the boy then slapped his son’s face a few times and said: Shut up you hear? You do what I have to say, I need more opium. The only way that I can get it is by selling you. Shut up and follow your new “father.”

The fat man then grabbed the boy and started to drag him away from his real father. When the boy wouldn’t move, the fat man then took out a whip and started to whip the boy. At this point in time the Master intervened. He moved towards the scene and started to grab the whip and whipped the fat man and said:

Master: There is no need to whip the boy!!!

The Master then said to the boy’s father: If you need money, here I will give you 100 silver coins, don’t sell your son, do you know how precious he is to you (he was thinking about his dead daughter). The boy’s father then readily agreed as 100 silver coins was more than 50 silver coins.

A few days later when the Master was beside a flowing river and thinking about throwing himself into it to commit suicide, the Master heard something rustling in the grass. He then walked towards the noise and once more he saw the boy from a few days before, the boy was now crippled.

Master: What are you doing here boy, where is your father???

Boy crying: My father sold me to the fat man after you left Mister. But the fat man hated me because you had whipped him. Within the first day he had become so angry that he had beaten me so badly that I couldn’t even walk. After that I ran away, but I have nowhere else to go!! If I go back to my father then he will just sell me again.

The boy then started to kneel in front of the Master: Please will you take me as your slave instead. I know you will be a kind master. I knew it from the day you gave my father 100 silver coins. I promise you I will be a good slave. At least by being your slave I know I won’t be whipped.

The boy then grabbed onto the Master’s clothes. However, the Master said to the boy:

Master: I am sorry, you cannot follow me. I don’t know where I am destined, or what lies ahead of me. Here instead, take this bag of coin and make your way in life.

The Master then turned to walk away without looking backwards. After travelling for one whole day and night, he began to think about the boy’s situation. The boy has no family, how will he look after himself? If someone had helped my wife and daughter in the war, wouldn’t they still be alive today??? Would I not be able to see them??? What if someone in the world had helped them??? Would my fate now be different? Would I now have a happy family with a wife and daughter instead??? Upon asking himself these questions, the Master then knew what his duty was in this world. Even though he had not been able to save his wife, he at least could save other people’s lives!!! With that decision he turned back to find the boy and instead of making the boy his slave he made the boy his disciple and from that day onwards Master and disciple traveled the continent also helping other young boys who eventually too became his disciples, and eventually they established many Kung Fu schools to not only teach kung fu, but also help the poor.)

The Master was so involved with his thoughts that he didn't see recognize Chi Nam in the crowd until Chi Nam and Annie came up to him. Chi Nam,who was still sore and feeling ashamed about his defeat the other day to the master's student, mumbled an apology for acting like such a pompous jerk the other day. It had taken a lot out of him to realize that he was wrong.Chi Nam had always considered himself a decent martial artist but his defeat had proven him wrong. Not only was his pride injured but he didn't want to look like a weakling in front of Annie. For reason,he didn't want her pity or her ridicule. He didn't know what he wanted from her. They had been through so much together. He liked being with her,he liked talking to her. For God's sake,he even liked arguing with the stubborn girl!

"It's fine, young man," the Master reassured Chi Nam kindly." Defeat is reality, but to admit defeat is a valuable character trait." The elderly man looked at both of Annie and Chi Nam's faces and chuckled. "Young people such as yourselves are the hope of China and you should never give up on your dreams."

"You are very kind, sir," Annie spoke up. She glanced at Chi Nam's bruised face and supressed a smile,"If every person had the fortune to have you as a master then that would be the greatest luck of all."

Chi Nam,still looking distressed and ashamed, bowed to the master and attempted to leave when the Master spoke up," Wait, young man! I would like to have a talk with you and your lady!"

Annie blushed unconsciously when the Master referred to her as being Chi Nam's "lady" and stared at the ground. The words had sounded right to her ears and she had no idea why. Chi Nam was nothing to her. He was merely the person who had saved her life, but only because of his guilty conscience. Surely, they had no feelings for each other. He was beyond her reach as a young man from the upper class.

"Please step into my home," the Master pleaded and he looked so earnest that Annie and Chi Nam followed behind him without hesitation. They entered the karate house and memories of Chi Nam's humiliating defeat flashed through his mind. All the blood, all the cheering, the crowd's anticipation of his defeat. But,the worst memory of all was the look of disappointment on Annie's face when Chi Nam's body hit the floor. He had let her down and that was his greatest defeat of all.

The Master led Annie and Chi Nam through a maze of many rooms and finally they entered a spacious room with soft blue carpeting. The room had few furniture but despite this, there was an elegance and simplicity to the room. It seemed to welcome all who entered it,and Annie immediately felt at ease in this stranger's home.

"Sit,please," the Master indicated to the two ebony wooden chairs beside a table with a tea pot and four delicate tea cups. As Annie and Chi Nam seated themselves, the elderly poured hot tea and gave his two young guests biscuits to eat.

"This is so generous of you, sir," Chi Nam spoke up between mouthfuls of the delicious biscuits. He had not eaten since last night, and along with a pounding headache,he was hungry as well."I've come to you in shame for my defeat last night, but you are still so kind and..."

"No,it's not a problem," the Master interjected hurriedly. He glanced at the faces of his guests warmly, and Annie felt a constriction in her heart. It was a look of affection that parents gave to their children, and she felt an appreciation for the master in her heart. Her father's absence in her life had always been a buried pain in her heart, but this stranger seemed to give his love so openly and earnestly. He fascinated her and she wanted to know more about his life, his personality, the man behind the powerful martial arts schools.

The Master seemed to feel Annie's glance on him and he smiled gently at her. "I once had a precious daughter whom I would have given my life to keep her safe," he whispered,"But she was killed. If she had survived, she would have been about your age. You remind me of her, young lady."

"Please feel free to call me Annie," Annie said, feeling tears behind her eyes. The man's tragic loss of his daughter touched her,and she wondered if her father mourned for her.

"I'm Chi Nam," Chi Nam quipped in,and he quickly gave Annie a worried look. She looked like she was going to cry. Without a moment's thought,he took her hand and squeezed it reassuringly. She was startled by his touch, but welcomed it at the same time. Not many boys had been allowed to hold her hand, but in Chi Nam's grasp, her hand felt right entwined with his. Their relationship was so strange. One minute they were risking their lives to save one another and the next, they were killing each other with accusations and arguments. She didn't understand him at all,but she knew that she couldn't deny the security and happiness that she felt with him at her side.

"I've opened up many martial arts schools," The Master said with a sigh,"I wanted to make a difference in the world. I wanted to show young people such as yourselves that there was a right path to walk upon. There are so many lost young people out there who don't know what to do with their lives. I wanted to lead these people onto the road of goodness. And,that's why my rules emphasize using martial arts to protect and to serve, but never to intentionally injure another."

Annie and Chi Nam listened to the Master in awe. They knew that they were lost in life, both of them. They have both came from broken homes, without the presence of loving parents in their lives. Annie had no aspirations except for living with her Master and taking care of him so she can pay him back from taking care of her and giving her a home since she was a child. But,she had always felt that she was a charity case for her Master,in spite of his generosity and kindness. As for Chi Nam,he had always felt lost in the shuffle of wealth and privledge and a father who never truly understood and loved him. Money did not buy happiness and that was a lesson Chi Nam had learned since he was a child.

"....so I would be honoured to have both of you join my martial arts school..."Annie and Chi Nam heard the Master say, both lost in their own thoughts.

"You really want us,sir?"Chi Nam cried out, astonished."After my defeat last night,I didn't think I could look at anyone in the face without shame and remorse. Your schools are so distinguished,I'm afraid of destroying your name."

"I'm merely a girl,"Annie cried out."I..I picked up some karate moves from my Master's son when he's practicing, but I don't have any experience at all. I never knew that females would have the same opportunities as men to defend themselves."

"I have considered both of you as my students from the minute I saw you," The Master said softly, his eyes shining with pride." I knew that there was something unique in both of you. Although you lost,Chi Nam,you had the courage to come back to me to apologize. And,Annie, you have been at Chi Nam's side through thick and thin, always there to help him and give him a hand. That is what my school's are based on: friendship, loyalty and integrity. I will never pressure you to join me,but I'm asking you humbly and without scorn. My schools and I would be honoured to make you both sensational martial artists. As for having a true heart, you both have wonderful affection for each other to prove it."

Annie and Chi Nam glanced at each other awkwardly. Could the Master's words be true? Was it so obvious to other people that they had feelings for each other? Should they join the Master's school of martial arts? He seemed so nice and gave himself so freely to others. But,the future is always unclear and it was now or never to make a decision that would change their lives.....

"Well, you both should take time thinking, I have no rush for your answers. You can come to visit me anytime you want.

A-dee :Thank you, Master. I have to go home, my Master will be worried if I come home late

A-dee looked at Chi-nam and asked him if he wanted to go back. Chi-nam nodded and turned to the Master

"It's my honor to meet you, Sir"

Before A-dee and Chi-Nam left, Master ordered his student to bring herbal medicine to him and said that he would it would be very painful tonight and that herbs could help him.

A-dee then walked Chi-Nam home, they had something in their minds so they didn't talk much to each other during the way but glanced at each other frequently.

That night in Master Chan's room, Master Chan opened one old box and he took the baby cloth out, his face was very sad. In his mind he was thinking about his family - his wife and his daughter. Then his door was knocked and his student A-ming came in with a bowl of soup.

A-Ming : Master, please have some soup before you go to bed, you must be very tired today.

Master Chan (take a look at A-ming and said) :A-Ming, how long you have stayed with me.

A-Ming :Master, 18 years.

Master Chan (took his sigh) :18 years, the time flies. I am getting old now, today I think about my past life, the girl, A-dee reminds me about my daughter, if she was still alive she would be about her age.

A-ming (tried to comfort his Master) :Maybe they aren't dead yet.

Master Chan :18 years ago during the war, me and my friend pretended to be a spy in Japanese Army, I had to leave my family. At that time my daughter was just born, I remember how cute she was. Who knows, I was betrayed by the person who I thought was my best friend.

A-ming :What was happened, Master?

Master Chan (thought about his bad memory) :During the operations, me and my friend helped one guy who was injured. He was also a spy and covered himself in Japanese Army, then three of us swore as blood brother. One night during the mission, the Japanese Army discovered us and I had to escape. I took my wife and my daughter with me, during the way I was ambushed by Japanese Army, my wife was disappeared. I decided to leave my daughter with my best friend. When I came back my wife was dead and my friend had moved to the other place.

A-ming :Who is the betrayer, Master?

Master Chan (spoke angrily) :It’s the man I whom I saved from Japanese soldier and became my blood brother. He was the only one who knew about the operation that night. After I recovered from my injury I tried to find him everywhere but no one had seen him. If I find him, he must pay me with his life.

A-ming :What about the your best friend? Where is he?

Master Chan (sigh):I don’t know, he had moved to somewhere. But I wish I could see him again and bring my daughter back to me.

Master Chan looked at A-ming, understood that he tried to make him feeling better :

This is my only hope. Go to bed A-ming, it is late night now.

A-ming :Good night, Master

After A-ming left, Master Chan was still sitting and looking forward, he only hoped he could find his best friend and his daughter.

In the city, at the weekend market there were a number of people walking and shopping, the merchants showed all the best stuffs that they could have and tried to invited people to stop by. A-dee and Yang Wai-sun were in the group of people, A-dee was very exciting and looking at all the different things. Wai-sun asked her if she was thirsty A-dee said yes and they both walked to the small restaurant and ordered some tea. Wai-sun told to A-dee to wait for him, he would buy some fruits back home. Wai-sun walked to the fruits shop and he saw some nice green apples, he was going to tell the seller but one hand came and picked all the apples and said.

Lady voice :I need all of these, how much?

Wai-sun turned and found the girl stood beside him. He then said.

"Excuse me, Miss. I come here first and I want to buy the apples. Could you please wait until I finish"

That lady was Lin Bo Yun or "Bo-Bo", she recognized Wai-Sun who was Master Leung's son when she went there to tell the news about A-dee. She felt shy and got some strange feeling toward to him. Instead of saying yes, she said

Bo-Bo :Sorry, Mister. I cme first and I need to buy all these apples.

Wai-sun (looked at her and unsatisfied with her answer):There are lots of apples, why do you want to buy all of them?

Bo-Bo :None of your business.

Wai-sun (got angry) :Excuse me, I need to buy them too and the seller knows about this.

Bo-Bo (shook her shoulders) :I don't care and I need to have them all.

Then both of Wai-sun and Bo-bo started shouting to each other, their voices was so loud, A-dee heard the voice and saw big group of people in street. She walked to the fruit shop and found both of Wai-sun and Bo-Bo were shouting to each other.

A-dee :What is going on, Brother, Bo-Bo?

Wai-Sun:A-dee, do you know her?

A-dee :Yes, she is Doctor Lee's daughter, remember when I was injured she came to our house and told you where I was.

Bo-Bo :A-dee, nice to see you again. How are you?

A-dee :I am fine, so why are you both shouting at each other?

Wai-sun:I want to buy some apples but she came and took all of them, I tried to ask her to share some apples to us but she said no!

Bo-Bo :Why don't you tell me more nicely, you shouted to me.

Wai-sun got angry again but before he said anything, Bo-Bo then said

"Fine then, if you want to share the apples, then go head. "

A-dee (smiled):Thanks Bo-Bo.

Bo-Bo (smiled back to A-dee) :Welcome.

During the way home, Wai -sun was complaining about Bo-Bo, he said to A-dee that Bo-Bo was very fierce. A-dee tried to cool him down and said Bo-Bo was very nice to her when she was injured. Bo-Bo also came home with sadness, she locked herself in the room, thinking about what she had done to Wai-sun, she always remembered him after her first met, however she did not understand herself why she was rude to him. She blamed herself and fell very desparate.

Chi-Nam who had recovered from his injury went outside and walked along the street. He had too many things in his mind, one of course was A-dee, since the day he was defeated by the Master Chan's student, she walked him home and looked after him for a while after that he did not see her again, he wondered where she was. Chi-Nam walked along and found himself at the hill when he looked up to the sky he found a lot of kites were flying. Suddenly one kite fell down to him and he heard a boy's voice say:

"Could you bring the kite back to me, Sir?"

Chi-nam took the kite and found A-dee standing among the children. He walked toward to her and said….

Chi-nam:( very excited to see A-Dee but didn't want her to realize his feeling?) What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to work at the moment? When in the world have you become lazy, huh?

A-Dee threw him an angry look and silently turned away from him continueing playing with the kids. However, deep down she prayed for him to go to her and say something. As she wished, he came after.

Chi-nam: Hey, you stubborn girl, I was talking to you. Still with that manner, is that how you repay my rescue and what I had done for you?

A-Dee:(with an ironic tone of voice) Oh, thank you, but I am not paying what you had done for me. This is for what you had done to me during the most unfortunate days of my life. Besides, don't you remember what I told you? Don't ever let me see you again. It always brings bad luck to me.

At the time she finished talking, she turned and there the bad luck occurred. She stepped on a rock and was about to fall when Chi-nam again gave out his protective hands to get her back on her feet. A-Dee somewhat felt satisfied but shy when she realized that Chi-Nam was still holding her hand. And just right at that moment, Cho-fai, on his return home after a long working day, saw the reality. He walked fast pretending that he didn't see them. Unfortunately, both A-Dee and Chi-nam called him back.

Cho-fai: Oh, hello. How are you? I didn't know that you guys are "close" friends. Nice day, isn't it? I take it that you both are having a good time with the kites. I should get going.

A-Dee suddenly grabbed Cho-fai's arm: No, no. We are not "close" as you saw. I never think one day I can be this man's close friend. I am going home too. Will you accompany me?

As so, she goes with Cho-fai leaving both of the men some suspicion about the other's relationship with A-Dee.

Chi-nam was irritated to see that A-dee had left with Cho-fai, he did not understand why he did not want A-dee was being with another man and he wanted A-dee smile to him and talk to him only. He needed to know the relationship between A-dee and Cho-Fai, during the way back to the hotel Chi-Nam was thinking about this over and over. Chi-nam was very hungry when he came back, he walked to the restaurant and ordered some food. While he was waiting for the food he saw one pretty lady was sitting at the front door table, he then recognized that she was his school friend “Fong Fong”.

Chi-nam :Excuse me, Miss. Is your name “Fong Fong?

Fong Fong :Yes, you are …? (felt familiar to him but could not recall his name immediately)

Chi-Nam :My name is Chi-Nam, we studied in the same school.

Fong Fong :(spoke surprisingly) Yes! I remember you. What are you doing here?

Chi-Nam :Nothing, I heard that Hong Kong is an exciting place so I come here to travel.

Fong Fong :How long are you going to stay?

Chi-Nam :I don’t know. What about you, I thought you still lived in Shanghai.

Fong Fong :Not now, my father opened a new shop here so my family has moved to stay here.

Chi-Nam :That’s great!

Fong Fong :Do you have any friends here?

Chi-Nam : (silent, his first thought was of A-dee) Oh, I quess, I do.(mumbleing)

Fong Fong laughed. She knew that Chi-Nam barely had any friends because of his snobbish personality. She saw her father - Pan Wang who was walking to her and she introduced Chi-Nam to her father. Chi-nam had dinner with Fong Fong ,after that they said their good-byes. That night at Fong Fong’s house, her father was asking Fong Fong about Chi-nam.

Pan Wang :Fong Fong, why not try to come close with Chi-nam?

Fong Fong :(did not understand what her father was trying to tell her) Father, what are you talking about?

Pan Wang :I said try to come close to Chi-Nam, he is a very rich man, if you can marry him it will be good for our family.

Fong Fong :(looked at her father and shook her head) :No, Father, I cannot do that Chi-nam and I are just good friends.

Pan Wang: (shouted to her)You must do it or do you want your family to suffer and become poor!?

Fong Fong :(her face was pale but still denied):Please Father, I don’t want to. Please!

Pan Wang :(spoke angrily and pointed his figure to her):How dare you disobey your own father!? If you don’t want to do this then get out of my face and I don't want to see or hear you!

Fong Fong looked at her father very disappointed and started crying, then she ran out from the door. She then walked and cried on the street, she felt that she was pathetic but she had nowhere to go. Suddenly a man dressed in black stopped and dragged her, she was frightened and tried to ask for help. The man in blackg dragged her to a dark alley. Before the situation got any worse, one man heard Fong Fong’s voice, he ran towards her and started fighting with the the man in black. Finally the man in black was defeated and Fong Fong was saved.

Fong Fong (looked at the man and found that in front of her was a quite good looking man, her face turned red):Thank you, Mister.

The man was Wai-Sun, he looked at her and answered with smile :That’s my pleasure, are you OK?

Fong Fong :Yes.

Wai-sun :This is quiet and dangerous place at night and this is not a place for a girl , here, why don't I take you home?

Fong Fong :(smiled)Thank you!

On the way home Fong Fong glanced to Wai-sun, she could not deny her feelings that she felt safe with Wai-sun walking besides her, even though she just met him. She said thank you to him again after she arrived home, she looked at his back and wished that she would be able to see him again.

A-dee was walking along the street and looking to the shop that opened along the street, she then got bumped by a man and before she fell down, one hand grabbed her arm and pulled her back. It was Chi-nam and before she could say anything Chi-Nam said…..

Chi-nam: You again, you should becarful walking. You might not be so lucky the next time, since I can't always be there for you. (smiling)

A-dee:(angrily) For your information, I never even asked for your help, now if you don't mind (looking at her hand),let go of my hand!

Chi-nam: Tisk, tisk, such rude behavior. (still holding her hand) I saved you from falling and this is what i get.

A-dee: I said let go of my hand! (trying to pull her hand away from him,but couldn't since he was so strong)

Chi-nam: (looking at her face) I will never let go of you, I love you so much since the first time I met you!

A-dee: You (pausing) you love me?(looking to his face) I never knew you actually liked me. I have to admit , that I have this feeling for you too, ever since you saved me (looking down a little embarrased) I just never knew you would come and admit it so openly

Chi-nam: (suddenly letting go of her hand)HAHAHA!!!Geez, I knew you weren't smart ,but I didn't know you were so dumb!Do you actually think I would like you?!! hahaha!

A-dee: (looking at him angrily) You tricked me! You, how could you! You can't trick somebody on love! You, you...

[All this time Chi-nam was just laughing at A-dee. A-dee couldn't take it anymore and left running down the streets crying]

When Chi-nam finally stopped laughing, Chi-nam felt just a little guilty for playing the trick

Chi-nam:Geez,i didn't know she would be so mad. Didn't even know she was so stubborn.

[Chi-nam took a step forward, wanting to catch up with A-dee, but decided not to,but then thought that if he didn't go apoligize to her now,she would never speak to him again]

[Chi-nam didn't really understand in himself why he would care if she ever spoke to him again, but knew he had to apoligize]

A-dee was at the door of her master's house, standing there panting from running so hard still having some tears rolling down her cheeks

A-dee: How could I be so stupid?!How?How?

[She kept repeating that to herself when she heard Chi-nam's voice yelling at her

Chi-nam: A-dee!wait!a-dee!

[A-dee turned around and to much of her dismay, she saw Chi-nam. A-dee was almost about to open the door ,but Chi-nam slammed the door shut with his hands]

Chi-nam: You didn't have to be so uptight and mad about this,it was just a joke!

A-dee: (yelling) JOKE?!!You call that a joke, how lame are you? How trick someone on love? How could you?

Chi-nam: Hey you can't blame it all on me, you were the one who actually fell for it.

A-dee: Now you're blaming it on me!? (yelling)

[A-dee and Chi-nam were yelling at each other so loud that they barely noticed that Wai-sun had opened the door and came out]

Wai-sun: What is going on here? (looking at A-dee then at Chi-nam)

A-dee: (looking at Wai-sun) I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so loud, please forgive me. I'l go back in now.

[A-dee glared at Chi-nam one more time and left. Wai-sun looked at Chi-nam with a curious look and opened the door and left too]

In the living room of Master Yang's house, A-dee was sipping some tea, while Wai-sun was looking at A-dee curiously.

Wai-sun: Do you mind telling me what happened just then?

A-dee: (looking at Wai-sun) What?what happened? nothing happened

Wai-sun: Oh for goodness sakes, if you don't know how to lie then don't lie to me!

A-dee: I'm sorry Master Wai-sun, I really don't feel like talking about it now, it's late ,I must go to sleep now, good night.

[A-dee left the living room leaving Wai-sun standing there with many questions in his head]

THE NEXT DAY

[Chi-nam was walking on the streets hoping to find Fong Fong and have a talk with her, and to much of his luck, he found Fong Fong talking with a man selling some apples. Chi-nam ran up to her, while Fong Fong was surprised to see him]

Chi-nam: Good morning, are you busy? I was hoping to have a talk with you.

Fong Fong: Me? Umm,sure, let's go to that restaurant right there.

IN A FIELD

[A-dee was with a group of kids flying kites again, hoping to forget about what happened the night before, but no matter what she couldn't stop thinking about it and just stood there looking into the space and reminiscing]

Little boy: (tugging at A-dee's shirt)Ge ge (sister)

A-dee: (snapping out of her little dream) Yes little boy, what is it?

The little boy pointed at the fallen kite on the floor, and A-dee went to pick it up.

Little boy: Are you ok Sister A-dee?

A-dee: I'm fine, i was just...

IN A RESTAURANT

Fong Fong: So what was so important that you wanted to talk to me about so early in the day?

Chi-nam: I well, I just wanted to, umm..

Fong Fong: Don't worry! You don't have to be shy around me!So what is it?

Chi-nam: I don't know exactly how to say this, but,umm..

Fong Fong: Yes?

Chi-nam: I was wondering if you could help me with a girl.

Fong Fong: (smiling at him)Girls? (Couldn't stop laughing)You, Leung Chi-nam having problems with a girl?

Chi-nam: Oh great,now I'm being laughed at!

Fong Fong: I'm sorry! (still laughing a little bit)So what is your problem?

Chi-nam: Well, I, played this little joke on a girl and she went all mad at me and everything! For one stupid little joke!

Fong Fong: Oh really, what joke did you play on her?

Chi-nam: I just pretended to say I liked her and she actually beleived me!What a dumb girl!

Fong Fong: No wonder the girl was mad!I would be mad too if you told me that! You should never mess with something as important as love!

Chi-nam : I , I, well ,how was I supposed to know!

Fong Fong: Well did you apoligize to her?

Chi-nam: WEll I tried, but we ended up yelling at each other again.

Fong Fong: So what do you want me to do?

Chi-nam: Well since you are a girl, I was just hoping if you could apoligize to her for me.

Fong Fong: I think it would be better if you apoligized to her yourself, but I will do it to make you happy. By the way, who is this girl and is she that important to you? I never knew you ever felt this serious about someone.

Chi-nam: Her name is A-dee. (Pausing) If i don't apologize to her, I may regret it.

Chi Nam looked across at Fong Fong`s face in distress and he didn`t know what else to say. He knew that he had made a mistake in teasing Annie, but what else could he have done? He couldn`t admit to her that he liked her, could he? That would have been so embarrassing, especially since he knew that she didn`t have any feelings for him. How could two people who care for each other argue so much?

"Don`t worry,"Fong Fong assured him with a smile."I`m sure that you two will work things out. A Dee seems like a nice girl. I`d like to meet her sometime."

"Oh,yeah, she`s nice," Chi Nam said, laughing to himself,"She has the quickest mouth, the sharpest temper...she can make anyone annoyed with that attitude of hers. If we weren`t fighting all the time,I might say that she`s cute."

Fong Fong glanced at Chi Nam and knew that he was in love with the girl named A Dee. She had never been in love before but she can tell from the glazy, unclear look in Chi nam`s eyes that A Dee was everything to him. If only he would get past his pride and admit it to the girl that he loves.

"I have to get home,"Fong Fong said, patting Chi Nam reassuringly on the hand."I have to make dinner for my father tonight." She stood up and laughed when Chi Nam gave her another desperate look of a broken hearted man."Don`t be such a coward,Chi Nam! If you love her, make the effort to tell her. Take my word for it,she might even love you back."

Chi Nam waved as he watched Fong Fong walk away and sighed deeply. He wished that A Dee were here so that he could tell her what he really felt. He wanted to kick himself for teasing and hurting her feelings. He loved her,but when would he have the courage to tell her?

*********

A Dee ran and ran until her heart was about to explode. She ran past the vendors in the market, knocked off many of their merchandise and still kept on running when many of the owners yelled at her to stop. Her tears were dried by the wind, but her heart ached with the sorrow that Chi Nam did not love her. She felt like a fool. Who was she kidding herself? She was merely a servant without parents who was stupid enough to like a rich boy. There was no future for her and Chi Nam,there never would be. They were from two differnt worlds, and their worlds would never meet.

When A Dee`s legs couldn`t carry anymore, she collapsed by a nearby tree and burst into tears. She din`t know how she could still cry since she felt that she had shed a waterfall of tears while running. But,she knew that some things were too deep for tears, and silently with her hands covering her face, she wept bitterly for her and Chi Nam. She was so sad that she didn`t hear anyone coming and didn`t notice a hand gently touching her on the shoulder.

"A Dee,"a worried voice cried."What`s wrong? Are you alright?"

Startled, she looked up to find the concerned face of Cho FAi looking down at her. Suddenly feeling self conscious at her tears, she quickly wiped her cheeks and stood up.

"I..I`m fine,"she whispeared and blinked back the urge for more tears to come,"I just had something in my eye, that`s all."

Cho Fai knew that she was lying and reached out to hold her. He didn`t know what was bothering her but he knew that A Dee was a stubborn, strong willed girl. If she was crying, then there had to be a good reason that was upsetting her. He and Wai Sun have been best friends forever and he had watched A Dee grow up almost right before his eyes. She was a gentle girl who never wanted anything from others. She gave herself freely and with tenderness. She had a lot of pride, but she had lost too much of her integrity in her life. He knew that she was still upset about the loss of the parents that she never got the chance to know. He had fallen in love with her ever since he was a child, and had never felt with any other woman the way he felt with A Dee. He pitied her past, felt sorrow for her life, but most of all,he loved her with his every being. He would never have the courage to tell her,but he would always protect and keep her safe.

"I`m fine, really,"She forced a smile at him and stepped back when he reached out for her,"There`s nothing wrong,Cho Fai."

"Tell me,please,"Cho Fai pleaded."I want to help you, that`s all. You can trust me,you know that."

At the mention of the word "trust",A Dee felt the tears that she had tried so hard to keep from falling began to slip down her cheeks. She knew that she could trust Cho Fai. He was her brother, the very best brother any girl could ever wish for. They had played together with Wai Sun since early childhood and she had felt nothing but happines, security and trust with him. She`ll always remember his patience and kindness to her when he taught her how to read, write and do mathematics. His health had always been poor, and while Wai Sun and other boys went to school,Cho Fai had a private tutor at home. He was extremely bright despite his failing heart, and every evening after dinner,he would come over to her Master`s home and help her with schoolwork. He shared everything that he knew with her, every new discovery that he made that day. He was the most wonderful man A Dee had ever known, and with Cho Fai,she felt no shame.

Without a moment`s hesitation, she ran into his arms and began to cry like she would never stop. He didn`t say a word and he embraced her tightly and held her as though she was like a baby. He stroked her hair over and over with gentle hands until her sobs subsided.

"I`m so sorry.."A Dee cried out,her voice breaking,"I`m sorry for being so much trouble to you..."

"Silly girl," Cho Fai smiled gently at her as he released her from his arms,"We`re best friends, remember? YOu can`t hide from me,A Dee. I know you too well."

A Dee looked at him and felt warm at the tenderness she saw in his eyes. But,she felt nothing but affection for him as a brother. The man that she loved was not Cho Fai,but another man who did not love her back. She didn`t know what to tell Cho Fai. She was upset with herself more than anything else. She felt foolish and ashamed that she would overreact like the way she did. She didn`t know why she was so angry with Chi Nam. He was always joking around with her. How could she believe that a wealthy person would ever like a poor servant girl like her? She was dreaming, she knew, and waking up to reality was the hardest thing to do.

"Just be here for me,"A Dee whispered and reached out to hold Cho Fai`s frail body next to hers. He had lost weight, she realized, and he felt so delicate. He seemed as though he would disappear through her grasp if she let him go."Don`t ask me anything. I just need a friend right now."

Cho Fai held her with all the strength that he had and closed his eyes. It was wonderful to hold her,to be close to her, even as a brother and nothing else. "I won`t ask you anything until you`re ready to tell me,"he assured her,"I`ll wait for you,A Dee,forever. I`ll always be here for you when you need me."

Her tears were hot and it soaked through his shirt. The wind had begun to blow softly through the trees and Cho Fai wished that time could stand still. He meant what he said to A Dee,and he knew that he would never love anyone but her. But,he was satisified with just being friends with her,in spite of his heartache of the knowledge that she did not love him the same way. A Dee was someone that he could never have. Silently,as A Dee cried on his shoulder,Cho Fai blinked back the tears that shone in his eyes.

A-dee: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ,to...

Cho-fai: It's fine, remember I will always be there for you. If something is wrong then just tell me.

A-dee: No, nothing is wrong, I just, I just felt sorry for myself at the moment I guess, nothing special.

[A-dee tried to put on a smile, but it came out to be a real weak smile]

Cho-fai: Please A-dee, don't push yourself away from me, tell me and I will help anyways possible!

A-dee: There's really nothing wrong! It's late I must go.

[And with that, A-dee left leaving Cho-fai standing there having a tear fall down his cheek]

[A-dee couldn't go back to her master's house now, she wanted to go fly kites again, because she knew that was the only thing that made her feel calm and not have to think about anything]

[A-dee was flying kites on a hill by herself in the dark night sky, and she heard a voice behind her]

Fong Fong: Excuse me, but is your name A-dee?

[A-dee turned around startled to hear someone]

A-dee: Umm,yes I am, and you are?

Fong Fong: My name is Fong Fong, I am a friend of Chi-nam's

[When A-dee heard the name of Chi-nam, the smile on her face turned upside down]

A-dee: Chi-nam? I don't know him and I wish that you wouldn't speak of him anymore in my prescence!

Fong Fong: But you don't understand!

A-dee: WHat do you mean I don't understand? He probably sent you hear to play another joke on me!

Fong Fong: No! You have totally misunderstood me! Chi-nam sent me hear so that I could come here to apoligize for him!

A-dee: Do you think I"m going to beleive that?! If he really wanted to apoligize to me, why didn't he do it himself?

Fong Fong: The question is did you ever even let him take the time to apoligize to you? He told me that he tried to apoligize to you,but you just never gave him the chance.

[A-dee stood there thinking, not knowing what to say]

A-dee: Then you tell me this, if a man is willing to play a joke on love to a woman, is he worth being forgiven?

[Fong Fong didn't know what to say for a moment either]

Fong Fong: Did you know that Chi-nam barely had any friends while he was growing up? Did you know that when he was little, his father barely even cared for him and I was his only true friend? With a man who never had much of any friendship with anybody when he was young, do you really expect him to be able to know what to do now when he meets someone he likes but doesn't know it?

[A-dee didn't know what to say, she felt sorry for him but also felt mad at him at the same time]

Fong Fong: Many people have mistaken him as a bad, dour, snobbish person, but he really isn't. Maybe if you got to know him better, you would understand, but you never even gave the chance to know him better.

[A-dee was thinking about all the things she told her, some didn't make sense while other things made clear sense]

A-dee: Thank you Fong Fong for coming here, tell Chi-nam that I forgive him (pause)but also tell him that it would be better if we never see each other again.

[A-dee turned around and began flying her kite again leaving Fong Fong there not know what to do or say. When Fong Fong turned around and left, A-dee had a single drop of tear roll down her face]

After Cho Fai got home,he was really tired out. He walked home with A-Dee just to make sure she was okay. He still didn`t know what was making A-Dee angry but he didn`t ask her. His house was big,but not that big. His family was rich but ever since his father died Cho Fai had to take care of the family business and things weren`t going too good. His mother was blind and couldn`t help him with work so he tries to care for his family the best he can. When Cho-Fai got home,he saw a big expensive car in the driveway. It was the Kwok family car the one of the richest famly in Hongkong. They were friends of his mother and Kwok Hoi yee,the eldest daughter had a crush on Cho-Fai. He never liked her because she wasn`t nice and loved money too much. Cho-Fai went into his house and a servant opens the door.

Servant: Ah Young Master Cho-Fai,you`re home. Your mother was waiting for you. The Kwok family has come to visit.

Cho-Fai:Yes,their car is in the driveway. (servant takes his jacket).Thanks.

(Cho-Fai walks into his living room and the Kwok husband and wife and daughter are sitting with his mother).

Cho-Fai: Mother,I`m home. Sorry for being late (he takes his moher hand because she is blind and can`t see him come in).

Mr.Kwok: Long time no see,Cho-fai. You are doing well, even though you look too thin and tired. We were in the neighbourhood and wanted to visit your mother.

Cho-Fai:it`s good to see you too sir.

Hoi Yee:Oh,Cho-fai have you missed me as much as I`ve missed you? I keep trying to reach you by letters but you never return me a anser. Why not?

Mrs.Kwok:Excuse our daughter,Cho-fai. She can be so impartient sometimes.

Cho-fai: (embarrassed by all the attention) It`s alright,Mrs.Kwok. Hoi yee,it`s good to see you too.

Cho-fai`s mother: Cho-fai,why don`t you take Hoi Yee to the garden so that you two can talk in private?

Cho-fai obeys his mother and he and Hoi Yee walk to the garden. She is talking about someting but he is not listening. All he can think about is A-Dee`s tears and how it felt for him to hold her. he wish that he could be with her now. but he can`t

Hoi Yee: Cho-fai you`re not listening to me!

Cho-fai: (apolegetic) Sorry, what were you saying?

Hoi yee: I`ve missed you so much and when I come to visit you`re not even paying any attention to me. I`m not talking to you anymore. I`m going to tell Pa that you are being mean to me so he won`t do business with yo`re family any more.

Cho-fai: Don`t get angry please. I`m just tired. there`s too much things to do at work,so I irritated. I won`t do it again. Keep on talking.

Hoi Yee: You were paying attention to that poor servant girl A-Dee this afternoon. You didn`t even go to work. Don`t lie to me!

Cho-Fai: (surprised) What do you mean? You saw me with A-Dee6

Hoi Yee: Ofcourse I did. Ma and Pa did too. You were holding her so tight that the whole world might have thought you two were lovers or something. You are so mean to me. How can you touch another woman, especially one so uneducated and poor like her?

Cho-Fai:Don`t talk like that about A-Dee. We`re just friends, she thinks of me as a brother. She was upset and I just wanted to comfort her.

Hoi Yee: You never held me,even when I was mad. Am I so ugly that you have to fall in love with a stupid servant girl?

Cho-Fai: What are you talking about? You`re being stubborn,Hoi Yee. I`m not in love with anyone!

Hoi Yee: I`m not talking to you anymore. I`m going home!

(she leaves and Cho-fai is left standing alone).

After the Kwok family leaves, cho-Fai`s mother walks in to talk with him about Hoi Yee

Cho-fai`s mother: You shouldn`t have upset her like that, son. You know that we need her father`s support to keep our business running and working.

Cho-fai: I`m sorry,Ma. I didn`t mean to do anything to make her mad.

Chofai`s mother: You should write a letter or visit Hoi Yee to apologize. You know that she loves you, everyone knows in Hongkong.

Cho-fai: I`m not in love with her,Mother. Why won`t you stop pressuring me? I just want to live at home to take care of you. You want to get ride of me?

Cho-fai`s mother: You`re my only son,I love you more than my life. After your father die,I have no one else. I only want a good life for you,and HOi yee`s family is rich. We could live a good life.

Cho-fai: But,money is not everything Ma. I don`t love her. I never want to marry her. Just let me have my space.

Cho-fai`s mother: Alright son,but don`t make the Kwok family angry. Making enemies is not a wise thing. I will give you your time alone.

Cho-fai: (sadly) I`m sorry,Mother. I won`t dissappoint you.

His mother leaves and Cho-fai is left alone again. He is frusterated but doesn`t know what to do. His life is going all wrong. He can`t have the girl that he loves and his family business will go bankrupt if he does not accept Kwok Hoi Yee`s marriage proposal. Life was never fair and Cho-Fai was disappointed beyone belief.

Wai Sun knocked on the Kwan's door and as he waited for the servants to answer his call,he gazed thought about his relationship with Cho Fai. He and Cho Fai have been the best of friends since childhood and he couldn't imagine his life without the gentlehearted young man who was ill more than he was healthy. Cho Fai and Wai Sun had played together with A Dee even before they knew how to speak and Cho Fai was like a brother to him. Being an only child,Wai Sun was used to being spoiled and pampered. But,Cho Fai had lost his father at a young age,and even with an ailing heart, his friend had the courage enough to take over the family business and care for his aging blind mother.Compared to Cho Fai,Wai Sun seemed like a rich, spoiled boy who knew nothing about business and family honour. Wai Sun had the deepest gratitude for having Cho Fai as a friend and a brother.

"Welcome,Wai Sun,sir," a servant cried out as the door was finally opened. "It has been a while since you have visited. Please come in."

"Thank you,"Wai Sun smiled politely as he was ushered inside the Kwan's resdience. The hallway to the foyer was empty and he wondered where everyone was. "Is your Master Cho Fai home?"

"He's in his room, sir,"the servant answered apolegetically."He came home late today and upsetted the Kwok family. He's resting now."

At the mention of the Kwok family,Wai Sun grimaced with disgust. They were one of the most prominent families in Hongkong and their daughter,Kwok Hoi Yee,has had her eyes on Cho Fai ever since she met him at a party two years ago. She was known as a spoiled, snobbish brat and Wai Sun could never imagine his gentle, kind friend in a relationship with a woman like her. She would eat poor Cho Fai alive with her status, wealth and selfish, cunning mind.

"What caused the Kwok family to be so angry with your Master?"Wai Sun wanted to know, puzzled. Cho Fai never made enemies because it was against his nature to be cruel to others. He was the most considerate and peaceful person that Wai Sun had ever met. He would ever feel pity for a rat caught in a trap. "Did they do him any harm?"

"No,they didn't say anything,"the servant shook his head sadly."I don't know all the details but I do know that Miss Hoi Yee was furious when she left. That girl was so angry that her eyes are like thorns in your heart. I just hope that they don't cause any trouble for the Master. He is not feeling well these days..."

Wai Sun instantly grew concered. "Cho Fai is feeling ill again? Is he having trouble breathing? Tell me what you know." Cho Fai was never in good health since he had been born with a frail heart. He had never attended school with Wai Sun,and stayed home to study with a tutor. He never had the chance to practice martial arts because his health would not permit him and even on days when Cho Fai admitted that he felt better,Wai Sun was still worried that his friend was trying to hide his pain from him. Cho Fai would never intentionally admit to anyone that he was hurting or sick even if it killed him. Cho Fai had a heart of gold, but he also had pride as big as China.

"You know that the Master will never let you see him in pain,"the servant spoke, her voice quivering with fear."I've just noticed that he has been losing weight and that he is more tired. He doesn't even have the energy to read and write poetry anymore, which he usually loves to do. This household can't lose the young Master....what will his mother do without him....?"

Wai Sun had heard enough and without another word,he almost ran to Cho Fai's room upstairs. They were like brothers and if Cho Fai was sick,Wai Sun would not let him hide it from him. He knocked on the door, and without even bothering to wait for an answer,he burst open the door. Cho Fai was lying on his bed with a damp cloth on his forehead. The curtains were drawn down so that his room was dimly lit and shadows danced on the walls. Cho Fai appeared to be sleeping but his paleness of his face and the thin form of his body frightened Wai Sun. Cho Fai looked so frail that Wai Sun's hearted ached at the pitiful sight. Gone was the laughing, smiling, gentle Cho Fai who usually greeted him at the door. Wai Sun knew that Cho Fai was truly sick this time and it was serious.

"I knew that you would come,"the familiar voice spoke up from the bed,and Wai Sun hurried to sit by the bed. Cho Fai's eyes were open and he looked disoriented, but peaceful. "You didn't even knock."

At the sight of life from his friend,Wai Sun breathed a sigh of relief. His imagination was running overtime,he realized. Cho Fai seemed to be fine."Sorry,"he smiled sheepishly,"I guess I was just in a hurry to see you. I thought...well,I thought that there was something wrong with you,but..."

Cho Fai sat up and slapped Wai Sun on the back playfully. He laughed aloud when Wai Sun pretended to wince in pain, and moved over so that Wai Sun could have more room to sit.

"I'm fine, really,"he assured his friend,"I'm just a bit tired these days,I don't know why. I feel as though my whole body is aching and all I want to do is sleep. Maybe when I wake up,the princess of my dreams will be waiting."

Wai Sun looked at his friend's earnest face at the mention of Cho Fai's "princess". Wai Sun had always known that A Dee held a special place in Cho Fai's heart, and no other woman could take her place. But,Cho Fai had never told A Dee about his feelings for her despite Wai Sun's urging and encouragement. And,then out of the blue, there appeared Miss spoiled and selfish Kwok Hoi Yee, who would do anything to have Cho Fai's heart. Love was a complicated thing and Wai Sun sadly no answers to help his friend.

"Princess A Dee doesn't realize how much you care for her,"Wai Sun said softly,"You should tell her,Cho Fai. Why won't you do it? She loves you and...."

"She loves me like a brother,"Cho Fai finished off,his head hanging in defeat. He took the damp cloth off his forehead and ran a hand through his dishelved hair in despair."I'm not a fool and I won't force her to accept me. I'm greatful just to have known her,to speak to her,to hold her,and to have her love, even if it's only a brotherly bond."

Wai Sun stared at his friend in awe. He had always known the generous virtues that had made Cho Fai his greatest friend, but this unselfishness and this unconditonal love for A Dee made Wai Sun's heart fill with admiration for Cho Fai. Was that love? Is love a feeling that is self-sacrificing and forgiving? He couldn't ever imaginge himself being friends with a woman who did not love him back. He didn't know how Cho Fai could not be disappointed in A Dee,or even resent her, even just a little bit. But,then again,Cho Fai was not like any other ordinary man. He would love A Dee until the day he died,Wai Sun knew, and nothing or no one could change that. It was sad that A Dee would never know that Cho Fai would be willing to give up his life just to have her smile and laugh.

"You are such a romantic fool,"Wai Sun laughed bitterly, shaking his head in dismay."That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. You have been reading too many romantic poems. You have to fight for love,Cho Fai,not give it up. It's not fair to A Dee and it's not fair to you. You owe it to youreslf to give you and A Dee a chance."

Cho Fai smiled crookedly and his eyes shone with such sadness that Wai Sun wanted to kick himself for making his friend sad. He had no business telling Cho Fai about love because he had never been in love. There have been countless woman in his life,of course, but no special girl that would make his heart beat at the sight of her. Wai Sun had always considered women to be bothersome. They always wanted attention, expensive gifts, money and a good time. But,Wai Sun never gave them his heart.

"Kwok Hoi Yee and her parents dropped by today,"Cho Fai said, turning his head in the darkness so that the shadows hid his expression."They are serious about Hoi Yee's relationship with me. They want me to propse to her. My mother wants me to propose to her."

Wai Sun was instantly on his feet in anger. "What relationship?" he cried out,his eyes blazing."You don't have a relationship with that...that spoiled brat who thinks that she owns the world. But,her family doesn't own you,Cho Fai. You can't be serious about accepting the proposal, right? Don't tell me that you are!"

Cho Fai shook his head in silent denial and his voice broke when he spoke,"I have no choice. My family needs the Kwok's support to keep my father's business running. This business was his life,Wai Sun,and I can't let it go down the drain at my expense. My mother needs the security of a stable life. What can I do?"

Wai Sun was so furious that he felt the urge to punch the wall. He wanted to yell and scream at Cho Fai,and give him a big punch in the face to wake him up. He couldn't believe that Cho Fai was even considering this devastating marriage to Hongkong's most snobbish and powerful family. No,this could not be happening to the shy, gentle boy who had grown up with Wai Sun and A Dee. Cho Fai was his best friend and his brother. He would not let this marriage happen. As Wai Sun looked at Cho Fai's frail face full of despair and despeartion,a plan began to form in his head. Cho Fai was useless since he was torn by family duty and obligations as a good son to his mother. Wai Sun left Cho Fai's room without a word and ran down the stairs. He slammed the door to the Kwan's home shut and ran back to his house. He prayed that A Dee was home becuase she was Cho Fai's only hope.

Knowing the health condition of Cho-Fei, A-Dee felt that she should do something to help him. Deep down in her heart, she doesn't want anything bad happens to Cho-Fei. She, somehow, thinks of what Wei-sun has kinda begged her to do for Cho-Fei. It tears her heart when she thinks of one day, Cho-Fei would leave this world with her along. As she was thinking, she didn't realize that she held Cho-Fei's hand real tight.

And suddenly, she lifted it to her face and cried, " Please, brother Cho-Fei, don't ever leave me. I would hate you forever if you dare to do such thing to me. Please, please brave as you have always been. Only that you can protect me from this cruel world. Cho-Fei."

Her tears wet Cho-Fei's hand and woke him up. Cho-Fei was really touched knowing that he at least had some important place in A-dee's heart even though he couldn't really tell if that place was of love or of respect. Anyway, he was happy then. He shook his back a little to turn to A-Dee.

Trying to be fine, he joked, "Hey, bitter little sister of mine, have you just learned how to cry lately. Or do I look scary enough to make you cry? Come here, let me wipe those tears and give you some sweet things."

A-Dee punched softly on Cho-Fei's shoulders and shouted," You liar. You told me that you would always be there for me whenever I need support and comfort. But now look, Wei-sun told me that you are going to leave me soon. How can you do that to me, huh?"

"Calm down A-Dee, I'm not dying. I am just a little tired from a lot of work. Don't you worry too much. I am fine."

"You are fine? You can lie to people but your face betrays you. It looks pale and sick."

A moment passed, both of them stayed still saying nothing. Cho-fei wanted to assure A-Dee that he was fine, but his heart was in pain emotionally and physically at the moment. He needed to pause of else A-Dee would recognize that.

After a while, A-Dee cried out" Cho-Fei, we learned each other's face before we learned to talk. I don't want you to hide any of your pain from me. We are supposed to share happiness and sadness. Besides, there are people out there who have always tried to bully me, and every time you were there protecting me from trouble. I can't imagine my life without you. You have come to my life as an essential person that without you, I can't bravely survive. Now that I know your health and how you have suffered, let me be there with you every time you are in pain. I want you to live when I still live and be happy with me when I'm happy. Oh, my gosh, am I making sense here? Do you understand what I am trying to say? I can't live without you, Cho-Fei."

She then cried in his hand like a baby. Cho-Fei cried too knowing that he would hurt her very much if he didn't fight for his life. In the mean time, he thought of the proposal that his family and the Kwok family mentioned earlier. Then looking back at A-Dee, he somewhat gained his courage and told himself that there will never be a dead end for his family even he didn't marry Kwok Ho-Yi. He had to find a way to help his family and for his only love. A peaceful moment has come and he fell into sleep with a dream that someday, he will have A-Dee with her fully devoted heart to him.

A-Dee at the moment just forgot about Chi-nam and was just worried about how to help Cho-Fei. Wei-sun's works wandered in her head, and beyond the present, there apprears the times when the three of them, Wei-sun, Cho-fei and her celebrated a Mid-autumn festival. In front of her now were three little kids of the age of nine or ten.

Wei-sun, "A-Dee, look at my rabbit lantern. Is it beautiful? Pa gave it to me for my good performance in school this year. You can share it with me if you don't mind.:

A-Dee," It's OK, young master. I know that I will have one of my own when Cho-Fei comes tonight. He never missed once."

Wei-sun, " How confident you are speaking about Cho-fei bringing you a lantern. I know he will."

Then Cho-fei came and there it was a big beautiful red fish lantern. A-dee, however, was not happy with the present. She said, " A fish again? Last year, you already gave me a fish. I don't want it for this year. I want your lantern instead. The littel dragon."

Cho-fei," Here just have it. I am fine with the fish."

A knock on the door brought A-Dee back to the present. Wei-sun came in and saw Cho-fei sleeping with a peaceful smile. He looked at A-Dee and nodded his head then turned back and closed the door.
