1980 B&I Line started a new Ro-Ro freight ferry to Wales.
The ferry that the B&I line used to start this new servive to Pembroke
Docks in South Wales was the Viking III, she was a Norwegian chartered
ship. The B&I service ran a triangular service between Rosslare, Cork,
and Pembroke Docks in 1981, after a while the company stoped going to
Cork Docks. Sealink and B&I operated a Rosslare to Fishguard service in
1986, the next year this ferry service was closed between the two
company`s, the Rosslare-Pembroke ferry service was re-open. |
1989 New Terminal Building built
Irish Rail the port authority, built a new Terminal Building on the main
land, in this fine building Irish Rail has it`s own offices, also
shipping companies, car hire firms, Customs, a Bar and a Restaurant up
on the second floor, shops and a Tourist office, on the second floor of
the new building there is a viewing balcony where passengers can see the
ships docking in the port. |
1990 Stena line new ferry came to Rosslare port
Stena Line introduced the Swedish-registered Steana Felicity onto the
Rosslare Harbour-Fishguard Ro-Ro ferry service,the ship was 15.000 tons.
This large ferry ship replaced the Saint Brendan which gave a service to
Rosslare for 11 years. |
1994 New high speed service to Fishguard
Stena Line started a new service to Fishguard Port, the high-speed
Catamaran was to used. The crossing time was about 90 minutes, and there
are five crossing daily. |
1995 A new ro-ro car ramp built at end of old pier
At the end of the old pier where the lighthouse is a new ro- ro car
linkspan was built, this ramp is used by the Catamaran high-speed
boat. |
3 July 1997
(am) The Stena Felicity left the port of Rosslare for the last time, and
was replaced by the Beatrix. This very large ferry ship took up service
on the 3 July 1997 (pm) sailing to Fishguard. |
27-SEP-1997 Saint Killian 11 The Saint Killian 11 Car RO-RO Ferry ship leaves the
Euro-Port of Rosslare for the last time. The St Killian 11 arrive to the
port of Rosslare Harbour in April 1978 under Captain Jim O`Leary. she
was the 7,118 tons Stena Scandanavica. This ferry sailed on the new
Rosslare-Cherbourg route. |
NEW ROADWAY BUILT TO PIER
A new road-way was built from the cliff-top to the Harbour, this
road-way was known a the Delap Hill, this road-way was called after
Alfred D. Ddelap, he was an engineer with the G.S.W.R IN THE 1900`s In
1890, there was a wooden lighthouse on the clifftop this lighthouse gave
out its light by oil lantern, this was used to guide ships into the port
as they travel up the South Shear. The railway authorities maintained
the lighthouse,when the new pier was built this lighthouse was closed. |
New Irish Rail Freight Check-In Booth In
the Port of Rosslare Harbour. The Freight Booth is placed high so that
drivers in the trucks do not have to leave their cabs while booking on
for the ships. There are two more Freight Booth`s like this one at the
Freight Check-In area, these are for other shipping`s companies in the
port, Irishferrys and Sealink. Six lanes of Freight Traffic can now book
in at these Booth`s at any given time. |
Tugmaster for loading trailers Tugmaster`s are used for loading trailers on and off
the ship`s, Irish Rail, the Port authority have a fleet of these
machines working in the Port. |
20-01-1998 A second New Weighbridge A second New Weighbridge is now being built at the Port of
Rosslare, there will be two weighbridges in use at the Port, this will
speed up the weighing-in of Freight Articulated Lorrys boarding for the
ship`s. |
New cars for the Irish Market
Euroshipping Ltd imports thousands of new cars for the Irish market.
Large carrying vessels provide two sailings a week from Le-Harve to the
Port of Rosslare, unloading up to a thousand new cars at a time. |

Trade Cars At the Port of Rosslare Harbour for the year 1996, a total of 41,135 New
Trade Cars were imported for the Irish Market, a new car compound was
built at the Port to store the new car`s. |
