The Unexpected

Chapter 1:

After six years, Cheung Wai Chong, his wife Ching, and his son Michael go to HK to visit his father who is in the hospital because of heart problems. Wu Yun Gong, a criminal is protected by Ng Wah Shun (Bowie Lam)'s team. A reporter, Tony (Leung Wing Chung), follows them around. Wu Yun Gong escapes from police custody. At the same time in the shooting scene, Wah Shun meets up with his old friend Chong. Wah Shun and Chong meet up with their other long time friend Fung. Chong gets a job as the head of a lab department. Wah Shun's girlfriend, Jo, also works there. Chong is Jo's boss. Fung brings his girlfriend Winnie over to Chong's place. Ching is Fung's ex-girlfriend. Ching disappears.

Chapter 2:

Chong looks all over for his wife. He asks Wah Shun to help. Wong Sir, Wah Shun's supervisor complains to Wah Shun that he was not doing his best. Wah Shun goes after Tony. Michael misses his mom very much. Chong does not tell his dad that his wife has been missing. Chong finds Ching's diary and reads it. A woman returns to Chong's house. A man is caught in a drug bust.

Chapter 3:

Ching's wedding band is left on the dinner table at Chong's house. Wah Shun keeps watching a tape that showed his brother (also a cop) getting shot and killed in a bank robbery (The shooting was similar to the shots fired in the first chapter). The man caught at the drug bust work with the cops. However, at the scene, Wah Shun leaves his post to rescue and save a drunk and wasted girl, Cindy (Maggie Cheung Ho Yee). The witness is shot and killed. Wah Shun buys a customed motorcycle. With the new bike, Wah Shun tries to get close in a crowd in which he wants information. He follows them to a club. There he sees Cindy. Wah Shun finds Lung, one of the people he wants. Cindy pretends to be his cousin. He is forced to drink nine tequilla pops. Ching is still missing.

Chapter 4:

Ching's body is found in a vechicle drowned in sea. Wah Shun does not care for his GF Jo anymore. Wah Shun sees Cindy at the club again. Lung bets with Wah Shun on who is faster on bike. Wah Shun wins. Cindy goes home. She is actually an extremely wealthy person. However, she hates her father a lot because of her mother's death and doesnt care for her. Lung tells Wah Shun to trade drugs. However, it was a setup to test him. Wah Shun sees Wong Sir and then spends the night in jail. Jo sees Cindy (with her bracelet for Wah Shun) with Wah Shun together.

Chapter 5:

Chong finds out information about Ching's death Michael & Jo go all around to find sunflowers (Ching's fav.). Jo faints and goes to the hospital. Later threatens to leave but then stays. Wah Shun insists on seeing Lung's boss, Kum Chuen. Wah Shun steals Kum Chuen's drugs and threatens to blow it up. He finds out that Kum Chuen was the one who killed his brother at the bank robery. Wah Shun and Kum Chuen shoot each other. Later Kum Chuen is found dead. Winnie starts to have nightmares and flashbacks to Ching's death.

Chapter 6:

Jo goes to the hospital because she is pushed off the roof of Chong's house. Wah Shun visits the next day. Fung puts all the blame on Winnie. Wah Shun visits Jo again. At the club, Cindy sees Wah Shun. Cindy's father, Au Yeung Tai tracks her down. Cindy and her father make up at her mother's grave. Jo breaks up with Wah Shun. Wah Shun & Chong get more details about Ching's death. It traces to Fung's house. They find Winnie dead. Cindy disappears from the club scene. Wah Shun sees Cindy in an expensive car dressed high class and sophisticated. Chong and his father make up. Cindy reappears in the club scene.

Chapter 7:

Cindy and Wah Shun get drunk and have a one night stand on the beach. They meet at the club again. He randomly picks a girl to make Cindy jealous and vice versa. Au Yeung Tai gieves Wah Shun a check to stay away from Cindy. Wah Shun calls Cindy and asks her to be his girlfriend. Cindy and her father flip out over Wah Shun. Chong's dad and stepmom meet Jo and thought that she was going out with Chong.

Chapter 8:

Wah Shun and Chong find out that Fung might have been the murderer instead of Winnie. Chong, Wah Shun, Cindy, and Jo reinact the crime, but are unable to do it. It showed that Winnie could not have been the murderer. They confront Fung, but he denies all. Fung and Au Yeung Tai have an alliance. Chong, Wah Shun, and Jo find evidence against Fung.

Chapter 9:

They found a body at the stie of the evidence. The deceased had worn a contact lens. Fung plans to leave HK. He diliberately plants his own blood in his house. Jo goes over to Chong's place to tutor Michael frequently. It is discovered that the body is Wu Yun Gong. Fung is stopped before he was able to leave HK. At Fung's house, they find the droplet of blood that belonged to Fung. Au Yeung Tai plans for the future. The cops re-evaluate all the evidence and then finds enought to make Fung guilty.

Chapter 10:

Chong visits Ching's gravesite. Chong moves in with his parents. Au Yeung Tai wants to find out more about Wah Shun. Cindy asks Wah Shun to meet her dad. At dinner time, Wah Shund and Au Yeung Tai argues and then Wah Shun leaves. Fung tells Tony lots of information and tells him to go visit Au Yeung Tai. Cindy disliked going to Karoke with Wah Shun and his co-workers. Fung pretends to get sick and is rushed to the hospital. Later he escapes. Chong sees him and follows.

Chapter 11:

Chong follows Fung to a shack and Wah Shun meets him there. The shack explodes. Fung is presumed dead. Fung meets Au Yeung Tai on a boat and asks for money to leave the country. Chong doesn;t want to get involved with Jo because he is afraid Ching would not approve. Cindy brigns Wah Shun to go see a musical, but he dislikes it. He gets one of his co-workers to call in and say that there was an emergency. Next day, Cindy finds out the truth. A letter is sent to Wah Shun's section and says that someone will die. They disregard the letter. Cindy catches Wah Shun going to Jo's an thinks that they are going out again. Like the letter said, one of the cops (Chung) is killed in a setup.

Chapter 12:

Wong Sir says that the death of Chung is to be kept quiet. Fung calls Tony and tells about Chung's death. Autopsy shwos that Chung was killed by a sharp knife like a coroner's knife. It makes him think Fung was involved. Wah Shun's mother is killed by Fung. While trying to catch Fung, a shot is let go. Someone is shot and Tony had a picture of Wah Shun shooting. Wah Shun is put on leave.

Chapter 13:

Wah Shun gets drunk at the club and finds Cindy there. They get into a fight and Wah Shun leaves. Wah Shun sees Fung and follows him. Cindy sees Wah Shun following Fung, so she follows too. Fung and Wah Shun fight and Wah Shun is brutally hurt. However, she rushes him to the hospital and is saved. At the hospital, Wah Shun "dies" when Chong & Wong Sir visits. Cindy gets extremely upset. Fung demands money from Au Yeung Tai. Fung gives Tony to write a story about Chong & Ching's relationship as well as his with Jo. Fung kidnapps Michael.

Chapter 14:

Wah Shun returns to work and Cindy is there mad at him for lying. Tony gets even more scoop. Fung kidnapps Jo also. Tony gets to the scene of where Fung kept Michael & Jo hostage and is also caught. Tony takes a CD that drops out of Fung's pocket. It is a CD filled with business dealings of Au Yeung Tai. Fung is murdered. Cindy and Wah Shun watch another musical and after, a robbery occurs. Wah Shun wants to marry Cindy.

Chapter 15:

Cindy accepts his marriage proposal after being cuffed to a beam. Au Yeung Tai dislikes it. Chong decides to move back to America. He asks Jo to go back with them. Au Yeung Tai is bribed by Tony. Cindy and Wah Shun get married. Tony goes to the reception. In a struggle, Cindy hits Tony on the head with an ash tray. Tony passes out. Cindy thought she kille him. Later he wakes up and Au Yeung Tai finishes him off. He hits him two more times.

Chapter 16:

Au Yeung Tai sets up Jo with killing Tony. Tony's girlfriend, Vivian, sees that people are after her. Jo is missing. In the morning, Jo finds herself lying next to the dead body of Tony. She runs away. Chong finds Jo, but protects her from the police. The cops try to find Jo.

Chapter 17:

The police follow Chong into an apt. but he is not there. There was a secret door in one of the bedrooms. Chong's stepmom pretends to have played mahjong. By then, Chong and Jo left already. Wah Shun wants Chong to cooperate, but he doesnt. Vivian runs out of money from hiding. She uses the CD with the info and bribes for money. The police trick Chong's stepmom to tell where Jo is. Jo finds room at a nearby church when her previous stay was raided by Wah Shun and his team. Chong finds Jo at the Church.

Chapter 18:

Jo gets sick and need to go to the hospital. The police stop Chong's car and Jo gets caught. Jo is found guilty of killing Tony. Chong and Wah Shun suspect Vivian of giving false testimony and getting paid. Cindy keeps getting scared that Wah Shun would find out the truth. Ciny attempts suicide.

Chapter 19:

Wah Shun rushes Cindy to the hospital. They find out that she is pregnant. Cindy tells Wah Shun that it was she who killed Tony. Wah Shun doesnt know what to do. Au Yeung Tai suggests that he do nothing. After, Wah Shun treats Cindy cold and doesnt speak to her much. Chong and Wah Shun finds evidence that Au Yeung Tai was related in Fung's death. Cindy finds out that her father was being bribed. Cindy goes to the police and says that she was the one who killed Tony. Au Yeung Tai tries to have his business remain the same. Vivian tries to run-away. She gets money from Au Yeung Tai again.

Chapter 20:

While at the scene to pick up money. Vivian is shot dead. At the scene, Au Yeung Tai' people take Chong as hostage. Fong, Au Yeung Tai's attorney is taken into police custody. Au Yeung Tai is also taken into custody. Au Yeung Tai escapes but is later recaptured. Cindy and Jo is let go. Au Yeung Tai is sentenced to death. Later he attempts suicide in prison. Wah Shun and Cindy tell each other of what they want for each other. Chong and Jo and Chong's parents go to America.
