wpe1.jpg (5152 bytes)    In Defense of Brooke.

Many people say that the character of Brooke is a manipulating, lying person. And yes I agree, to a certain point that Brooke is like that.

However. A lot of the things Brooke has done are completely out of character for the person we all know and love from the very beginning of the show. And also. My favourite character of Brooke has done some really bad things, but she has paid for them.

Many of the B&B fans tell me that they think Brooke is this very manipulating personality and that she never does anything out of the goodness of her heart. And they love to bring up all the bad things they feel Brooke has done. As a balance to all these comments I made the Taylor's misdoings page. I thought that was fun, and alot of Brooke fans apart from myself felt the same way.

But this has brought on some pretty upset comments from the Taylor fans and I know some of them are even boycotting my page because of this. Even though I feel that I have a page that is fun to visit for all B&B fans. But I thought I'd at least give some insight as to how I feel about the most frequent negative comments people say about Brooke.

Things often brought up:

Hiding Caroline's letter: (which was in Soaptime about 20 years ago by now :-) )
Brooke intercepted the letter that Ridge wrote to Caroline when she was about to marry Thorne. Ridge there explained his undying love to Caroline and apologized for having been unfaithful to Caroline on the eve of their weddingnight. Brooke took the letter and let it conveniently slip down behind Caroline's bed. She told Thorne about this and told him how bad she felt about doing this. He convinced her not to show the letter to Caroline for several days. But on the day of Caroline's and Thorne's wedding she "found" the letter and Caroline read it. Caroline was furious with Brooke because she had hidden the letter, but still, after reading it she proceeded with her marriage to Thorne. She felt that he was much more mature and loving than Ridge ever could be. The fact that Caroline still chose to marry Thorne was in no way Brooke's fault.

Moving in with Ridge against Stephanie's wishes: Now this is the part where I can see how someone would be angry with Brooke and think she was selfish and thoughtless. But I can still see why she did it. She did it because Ridge asked her to move in with him. If Brooke hadn't been so insecure of herself she would have demanded that Ridge get a condo or an apartment where they could stay. But she didn't. Instead Brooke chose to move in with Ridge at Stephanie's house.

The miscarriage: Often the miscarriage of Brooke's first baby by Ridge is brought up to show Brooke as a very canniving and manipulating person. But what most of the fans who has joined in later does not know is the fact that the pregnancy was by no means planned by Brooke. And she was in fact pregnant even if Stephanie didn't believe her. Ridge was engaged to Brooke at the time and Stephanie kept feeding Ridge with doubts of the reality of the pregnancy and when Brooke did in fact miscarry, even Ridge thought she had been lying. But from the story we all understood that she had in fact had a miscarriage. She never lied to Ridge about this.

The Forrester Takeover: This is a frequent thing to be brought up by the Brooke Bashers. How could Brooke be so horrible to take the Forrester company away from the Forresters. Well, in fact. I think it wasn't that bad. Brooke had been lied to and deceived by both Stephanie, Eric and Ridge in this matter. Ridge did in fact give Brooke some papers to sign. Among these papers was a confirmation that she didn't have claim to the BeLieF formula. Fortunately Connor Davies took that paper and thus Brooke never actually signed over the BeLieF to the Forresters. Despite Brooke finding this out she agreed to still sign the papers and give the Forresters the BeLieF formula. On one condition - that they had told her everything and that there wasn't anything more they were hiding from her. They said there wasn't, and Brooke was just about to sign the papers when the spy Stephaine had hired to keep an eye on Brooke walks in. She realizes they had yet again lied to her. And she refused to sign the papers and took control of Forrester with the help of Connor Davies.

Brooke having been with SO many MEN. She is a tramp, a slut and a cheap woman are words and phrases I frequently come across both on message boards and mails (mostly from Taylor fans). Well I took it upon myself to see if Brooke in fact was such a tramp. And how many men Taylor had in her life... just for fun and look what I came up with.. strange huh?

BROOKE:
Dave Reed.
(engaged to at the beginning of the show)
Ridge Forrester, (whom she was engaged to be married to. She asked her best friend Caroline's permission before dating Ridge)
Eric Forrester (she was married to since her truelove Ridge married Caroline.)
Ridge Forrester (she made love to him while still being married to his father)
Connor Davies
(whom I don't know if she ever had a sexual relatioship with)
James Warwick. (engaged to marry) She was about to marry James even though Ridge was available. But then Bridget was accidentally shot and she grew closer to Ridge and decided to end her relationship with James. Ridge wooed her relentlessly.
Ridge Forrester again (married to but marriage turned out to be illegal when Taylor was found to be alive)
Grant Chambers.
(marriage was illegal) Grant fell in love with Brooke and was very supportive to her when she had her nervous breakdown. But she neveer lead him to believe she loved him. She was very open with Grant about her feelings for Ridge and Grant promised to help make Ridge jealous. But Brooke thought her plan didn't work so she married Grant hoping to fall in love with him and forget Ridge. But she couldn't and chose not to renew their marriage when she found out it wasn't legal.
Ridge Forrester again. She pursued Ridge when finding out that her marriage to Grant was illegal. Ridge was set out to marry Taylor but thought she was in love with his brother and Brooke seduced him. Accepted his proposal knowing Taylor carried his baby. Married Ridge but Ridge wanted to annull the marriage when he found out Taylor's son was in fact his and not Thorne's as he was lead to believe. Brooke finally signed the anullment papers.
TAYLOR:
Grant Chambers
(in High School b/f show) We only know they were romantically involved. Something Taylor asked Grant to keep a secret when he first came to Forrester.
Blake Hayes (whom she was married to, but had no children. He had a disease, a mental illness and this lead to their divorce. )
Ridge Forrester
(whom she married, but she had constant insecurities over his closeness to Brooke and the girl they back then thought was his daughter, Bridget.)
Blake Hayes: (Came back and dated Taylor after they divorced and simultaneously with Ridge)
Storm Logan (Proposed to her and she dated him simultaneously with Ridge)
Prince Omar (Whom she married full well knowing she was still married to Ridge)
James Warwick (Big Bear Cabin, while married to Ridge. Thinking they were going to die she made love to him.)
Eric Forrester (behind Stephanie's back. She was just about to give in to her feelings for Eric when she found him - innocently - in bed with Stephanie.)
Ridge Forrester when he proposed to her on the runway after seeing Brooke kiss Grant) Taylor accepted Ridge's proposal on the runway wearing Brooke's ring and gown. She then asked Ridge if he really meant what he said and he stuck with Taylor and was about to marry her when Rick shot Grant and Ridge took the blame for it. He encouraged Taylor to go on with her life and Thorne Forrester was very supportive of her through her troubled times. He proposed to her.
But she asked him to give her some more time. She made love to Ridge one last time before he went to jail and this was probably when Thomas was concieved.   Grant witnessed in Ridge's favour and Ridge was released. Taylor then dated both Ridge and Taylor for a while but Taylor found Ridge in bed with Brooke and decided to give her relationshipw with Thorne a chance. And lied to Ridge about the paternity of the baby she was carrying.
Thorne Forrester. Thorne helped her out when she thought she was going to lose Ridge's baby. But she dumped him as soon as the baby was born and pursued Ridge again. It now looks like they are getting married this summer.
Now  what does that say about the women?? Nothing is my reaction. JMHO Because I don't think either Brooke or Taylor are tramps. I think they are both liars, manipulators and pretty selfish in some respects. But all is fair in love and war...

Brooke has gone through the whole Forrester clan: A comment that also show up often is the fact that Brooke has had "so many Forrester men" when in fact Taylor is a step ahead of Brooke on that department too....

Brooke is so obsessed with Ridge: Well, in fact Brooke has tried to move on with her life several times without Ridge. First time was when she married Eric. That marriage was quite happy until Stephaine tried to convince Brooke that Eric no longer loved her and that she should pursue Ridge! The second time was with James, and it would probably have succeeded too if Ridge hadn't interfered. James and Brooke had actually set their wedding date. But then Bridget was shot and Ridge managed to slither his way into Brooke's life again. And boy did he court her that time around to get her back... Then there was the story with Grant. Brooke was left by Ridge after the ordeal with her breakdown. She tried to tell Ridge that she wanted to give Bridget more time to adjust to the fact that Ridge wasn't her father, but Eric was. Ridge was hurt and left Brooke at this time and she turned to Grant, first as a friend, but he fell in love with her and tried to convince her that Ridge was nothing for her. They kissed a couple of times and Ridge went ballistic, proposed to Taylor and Brooke eventually married Grant. But this never worked out. But she has tried. Three times even. And at least two of those marriages could have worked if nobody had interfered.

Taylor - less obsessed?. She couldn't make a relationship with either Blake or Omar work because of her love for Ridge - or obsession. And now she can't think of anything but Ridge although she has been trying to make something out of hers and Thorne's relationship. But to be true, Taylor has thrown Ridge away several times because he doesn't only love her. But she never sticks to her decision... If she isn't as obsessive about Ridge as Brooke ever was.. well...   She has also always accused Brooke of being obsessive and use any means necessary to get her man. Well. Since Thomas was concieved she used Thorne to get to Ridge. She lied to Brooke about not telling Ridge about Thomas, she kept Thomas a secret from Ridge for 11 months! Long after the baby was out of harms way. She is forcing Ridge to marry her before they could move in together after having lived with him for weeks while he was married to Brooke.

Brooke is using her kids to get Ridge; Now, I honestly believe that Brooke thought Ridge was best for her kids, and that they really wanted Ridge. Now she pointed out many times to Ridge "for the sake of the children". But I don't see how she can use them any longer since both kids are Eric's and we've known that for quite some time now. Still the Taylor fans bring this up time and again. And she really thought Ridge loved her at the time. Right now Taylor is using Thomas the very same way she has accused Brooke of doing for so long.

Brooke uses her body to get Ridge: I for one don't see anything wrong with that. And maybe that is the true issue here. The fact that Brooke using her body and sensuality to get Ridge often seems to work. But I also very often see comments about Brooke and Ridge spending all their time in bed when they are married... well, I remember Ridge and Taylor having many "bedscenes" when they were married too. This however was the only time we ever saw Taylor wear any sexy lingerie...

I am told that Taylor by now is trying to use her sexappeal to get Ridge into the sack. I haven't seen these episodes myself, but if they're true. Hum. Ridge was still married to Brooke when this supposedly was happening. Whatever happened to Taylor's high morals?
