Clive Robertson engaged to long-time girlfriend Libby Purvis
Clive Robertson (Ben) recently proposed marriage to his girlfriend of four years, actress Libby Purvis. But the two are having a hard time coming up with a date and place for the nuptials.

Robertson is from England, Purvis from Australia, and they've been in Los Angeles since his start on SB in 1996. "We have friends and family scattered across several continents," says Robertson, who met Purvis at a drama class in London a year before they started dating. "This will be a hard wedding to plan, but we are looking forward to it."

Purvis has a long list of TV and film credits in Australia, including a two-year stint on an Aussie soap opera. Like Clive, she's traveled quite a lot, and the Los Angeles lifestyle suits her just fine.

The proposal itself was no easy feat either. "I actually tried to propose three times over the span of the last week," Robertson admits. "But the circumstances were not quite perfect." However, the near-misses were fun and romantic nonetheless.

The first time Robertson planned to pop the question, the couple had gone off for a weekend in Santa Barbara. After an afternoon on a chartered yacht, Robertson took his lady love to a five-star restaurant. Although the buildup and setting seemed perfect, Robertson insists, "When the time came, it just wasn't quite right." So the surprise getaway he had previously organized became Plan B.

The following weekend Robertson whisked Purvis off to New Orleans' romantic French Quarter. He was certain that dinner at the Commander's Palace in the Garden District would provide just the right backdrop. It didn't.

"Havin just ordered the best champagne," Robertson noted, he realized they were seated badly in the smoking section. "Once again I was thinking to myself 'There has got to be a better setting,' so I balked again."

Deciding that their corner hotel suite at the 1830s hotel was quite romantic in and of itself, Robertson finally proposed the next morning. Surprised but thorougly delighted, Purvis accepted. "I had no idea all of this was going on behind the scenes," she admits.
