EPISODE 22a of 22
[When a 2nd series did not go ahead, additional scenes were shot and added to the end of the final episode for syndication purposes, giving the series a proper conclusion. This is a complete transcript].
1. Dennis has had his hair cut, and has been tied up and connected to a grenade via a trip wire. The mysterious man walks into the room.
Dennis: This may seem like a silly question...but what the hell is going on?
Man: I'm not too sure anymore.
Dennis: Just a clue?
Man: I was going to sell you back to mummy dearest for a million bucks. And now she's been charged with the murder of Jake Sanders, there doesn't seem much point.
Dennis: What are you talking about?
Man: She didn't do it, Jilly did. And even that was a sort of accident.
Dennis: You mean you've got pictures? But why...what...who the hell are you?
Man: My name's Chris. That won't help you. I'm your half brother Dennis. The one that Stephanie abandoned when she was 18.
Dennis: Well, it wasn't quite like that.... So, you're Amahl's son. You could get a lot more than a million bucks.
Chris: You mean if I don't kill you? [grins]
Dennis: Why would you bother with the hair if you're going to do that?
Chris: God knows, I've thought about it enough. [he pulls the pin on the grenade]
Dennis: For God's sake, you'll kill us both, throw it!
Chris: It's just a dummy.
Dennis: That makes three of us.
2. Stephanie is in a prison cell. Someone comes to visit.
Stephanie: I said I didn't want to see anyone.
Jilly: [enters laughing] Then I'll see you at the trial. Although I don't think I'll be much help.
Stephanie: I don't have to put up with this. Get her out of here!
Jilly: I don't think prison grey will suit you somehow. But then it was never my colour either.
Stephanie: Do you know how ridiculous you are? [Dennis, Chris and a detective come to the cell]
Detective: It's not as simple as that, now hang on...
Dennis: Hi mum. Aunty Jilly.
Stephanie: Your hair!
Dennis: I know, I know. I'm never going to that barber again. Now look, this may come as a bit of a shock, but I guess you're used to those. Mum, I'd like you to meet Chris...your son.
Jilly: What?!
Dennis: He was on the balcony when Jilly shot Jake.
Jilly: Oh come on!
Dennis: And he's got pictures to prove it.
Jilly: That's ridiculous!
Detective: He's made a full statement Mrs. Sanders. I'm afraid we're going to have to ask you a few more questions.
Jilly: [screams] Oh no, no you can't do this to me!...Let go. [If/fit/even?] in a bucket of manure you'd come up smelling of roses. You bitch! No....
Stephanie: [to Chris] I guess we have quite a lot of talking to do. [they embrace]
3. Steph, Dennis and Chris go to a quiet spot overlooking Sydney Harbour.
Dennis: Dan's waiting for you at Eden. He and Jessica didn't go. Amahl's at the Regent. I rang him about Chris. He wants to see you [Chris] too. What do you want to do?
Stephanie: For the moment just walk. The serious decisions can wait awhile... You know, I suddenly realised what freedom means. Heaven help anyone who tries to take it from me again.
