Peta Toppano

With Heartbreak High co-star Alex Dimitriades

Peta Toppano (born April 8, her agent is Robyn Gardiner Management) set out to become a ballerina before a role in 'Godspell' launched her career in musical theatre. Roles in 'My Fair Lady', 'They're Playing Our Song', 'Nine' and 'A Chorus Line' followed. She regards 'A Chorus Line' as her first serious acting challenge; it led to her many television roles. Peta has spent the last few years immersing herself in the Perth theatre scene, particularly with Black Swan Theatre. Her recent return to the eastern seaboard was marked with a return to music theatre in 'Merrily We Roll Along' for the Sydney Theatre Company.

Peta married Australian media mogul Kerry Stokes on New Year's Day 1992, at a ski resort in Beaver's Creek, Colorado, her second marriage (?). It ended in 1995, reportedly "because Toppano did not want to live in Perth, and could not cope with being 'just a wife' and stepmother to his children" from his previous 2 marriages.

Peta talked to Christopher Williams for an ABC television interview series about her struggle to shake herself free of ethnic stereotyping and "the glamour thing" to command respect as an accomplished actor and singer.
