"The Wonder Years" was created by Neal
Marlens and his wife Carol Black and
based on Neal Marlens' childhood memories
of growing up in Huntington, a
suburb of Long Island, New York.
The Emmy-winning series, produced from
1988 to 1993, describes the problems, wishes and dreams of a boy coming
of age in the late 1960's and early 70's.
Although "The Wonder Years" is about Kevin's
adolescent, the stories are
commented and are narrationed by the adult
Kevin (The voice of Daniel Stern, which, by the way, never appears on the
screen).
'The Wonder Years', People laugh at me
when they hear which Tv Series is my favorite. I guess some will, and some
won't understand this amazing feeling that this very simple yet so complicated
show gives the viewer.
Most people think that, hey it's just
a stupid Tv show with that guy who's talking to himself, well, whenever
you meet such an 'Undeep thoughts thinker', my edvice is - keep away from
him.
One of the most amazing things about the
fact that some people LOVE it, and some just HATE it, is that the people
who HATE it, just, don't understand it, that's why they find it boring
and they can't seem to like it, or infact, to understand how others can.
Watching this show is like filling another part of the puzzle, you most see it, for the millionth time or for the first, it's something strange that happens in you while watching it, this feeling of understanding, being appealed by identification with the Character and knowing what's going on - this thanks to the amazing uncommon aspect of knowing what is (or was), going on inside the character, thoughts&feelings, liking& disliking. This changes everything, undoutly- a whole other prespective.
While the show was running in it's first
season, many changes began to happened behind the Scenes: The pilot, was
directed and produced by Steve Miner and Jeffrey Silver, all episodes 'till
the 13th were directed and produced by Neal Marlens and Carol black, they
then, Finally handed the job to THE Bob Brush, quitting due to personal
reasons. Bob Brush became the 'father' of 'The Wonder Years'.
Bob Brush's entrance gave the Series some
good production changes but mostly, he gave it consistency in the episodes.
In 1988, when "The Wonder Years" started,
the network wouldn't let Marlens set the
show in Long Island because they didn't
think Middle America could relate to a show
near New York. Later, one of the most
important demandings to 'The Wonder Years'
was that the series could take place in
any American suburb.
These suggestions were accepted by New
World Entertainment Ltd., and the filming began on locations in Culver
City and Burbank,California.
The name of Kevin's home town or even
the state were never mentioned.
Kevin's life in the series were filmed
in the perfect location for both his life and time.
Despite the production's efforts through
every episode to hide the location of 'The Wonder Years', few (very few),
episodes included some facts which show that the scene was filmed in Culver
City/Burbank, California. Here are a few of these clues:
One of the things that makes the Wonder Years so great, unforgettable and exciting is the music which escorts each and each scene.Marlens and Black tried to address the universal experience of childhood by using acoustic guitars and old songs which break in a crucial minute, or a break of tension. Every time the lovely Danica McKellar appear on the screen a delicate melody is played, which makes the entrance more dramatic, exciting and even makes you hold your breath form a slight second.
It's very difficult to say what exactly
makes this Tv series so unique; It may be the first rate of a direction,
It may be the great lsurroundings of film location and it may be the amazingly
suitable sounds which are played, But, It may also be the uniqueness that
each actor and actress projects.
The Wonder Years's head actor is Fred
Savage. Savage is now working his way through college at Stanford University
and is the star of 'No One Would Tell', a chilling NBC movie
(Mon., May 6 at 9 p.m. ET).
The fact that Fren grew-up playing Kevin
made his acting very natural. It's possible to see that he had no problem
playing the scenecs, almost as if Kevin's life are his.
To my opinion, Fred's acting In 'The Wonder
Years', Is very qualitative and can not be seen on the Tv screen these
days anymore.
Next to Savage played Danica McKellar,
as Winnie Cooper. McKellar did not always star next to Savage, at the first
and second season, winnie appeared in many of the episodes (Rating were
marvels). Winnie was written out of the episodes for the first half of
the third season, rating began to fade.
Later, winnie became the second-head player,
she was the center of kavin's life, and was his last memory -in the last
episode.
Winnie's relationship with kevin was a
real complecated one which gave it a special meaning. This relationship
was to touch every one of us in a way that only each of us could know.
