Methos has fascinated us ever since he made himself known to Duncan MacLeod in "Methos."  What makes him the man that he is?

BBGL MEMBER: Katherine MacLeod
SUBMISSION: "People die MacLeod, Immortals die." Methos the man thinks very logically, sort of a 5000 year old Spock if you please. "I am doing something! I'm trying to stay alive." Logic.

BBGL MEMBER: Shauna O'Sullivan
SUBMISSION: "Cute, I can do cute!" Of course this is why we all admire the man. He IS cute among other things.

BBGL MEMBER: Caelle
SUBMISSION: It's Methos' pragmatism--pure and simple. "I am doing something; I'm surviving."

BBGL MEMBER: Serehana
SUBMISSION: Just Because I don't like to Fight, Doesn't Mean I Can't....This is confidence to the Max brought on by Methos knowing his own abilities..A man with self knowing, hidden power and passion for all of Life....

BBGL MEMBER: Calista Kincaid
SUBMISSION: Methos...is more than a myth or a legend. He's a man..he knows that he makes mistakes, but that you learn from your mistakes and become stronger! "Why don't you try forgiving yourself for once?"

BBGL MEMBER: Old Soul
SUBMISSION: Some of the dominant characteristics of Methos that make him a Man are his discipline, his passion for life, friendship, and love. His intelligence and common sense shows his experience in life's everyday situations; and although not immune to tragedy, he accepts it and survives, being sure to help a friend along the way.

BBGL MEMBER: Norse Lady
SUBMISSION: "If you die MacLeod, Amanda will be free to date." This wicked sense of humour is the sign of a spirit that refuses to break under the strain of long and hard living. This Man will live--forever strong.

BBGL MEMBER: Sandy Broughton
SUBMISSION: "I'm easily amused"...the man still finds joy and fun in the simple and complicated things in life. He not only survives...he lives.

BBGL MEMBER: Tiamat
SUBMISSION: The man has the wisdom that being around for 5000 years brings but at the same time, he's not cocky or pushy about it. He has his bad traits like everyone else, but he has good ones too, and they all balance out in the end, and that is what makes him a man.

BBGL MEMBER: Campbell
SUBMISSION: "We are good and evil, we have rage and compassion, love and hate." This by far proves that Methos is a man with a soul.

BBGL MEMBER: Justine Ryan
SUBMISSION: "Don't go, MacLeod. It's a trap, MacLeod. MacLeod, your pants are on fire." What more can I say :)

BBGL MEMBER: Carmina
SUBMISSION: When Methos says "You try being her" of course he's talking about Alexa. But it shows that he has compasion, and that he cares so much for people. and "You know, I don't know who or what you are Methos and I know you don't want to hear this, but you did teach me something, you taught me that life's about change, about learning to accept who you are, good or bad, and I thank you for that" this shows that Methos really has an effect on people, and that 5000 years experence does pay off. It shows that Methos has a definite impact on others' lives.

BBGL MEMBER: Swordmistress
SUBMISSION: Live, grow stronger, fight another day! He makes that creed believable and who wouldnt want to live, grow stronger and fight beside him for as many other days as one could get.

BBGL MEMBER: Tori
SUBMISSION: No myth or legend would have the sarcasm we all know and love; "how romantic .. and so impractical"

BBGL MEMBER: Canciona
SUBMISSION: Why is Methos a man? Well, certain aspects of this are pretty obvious--not that they don't bear exploring, but I'll save that for my fantasies and dreams... What really makes Methos a man is all of his imperfections and all of his perfections. Every temptation he succumbs to, every time he betrays someone or something for his own survival. And every time he becomes more than he thinks he is, every time he sacrifices himself for someone. Every time he shows pragmatism, indifference, fear. Every time he shows love, compassion, and that long-lost conscience. He is myth and legend, flesh and blood, fiend and angel. He rode as Death on Horseback, and as Life with a medicine bag. He is not always honest, but he is almost never wrong. He is infuriating, sarcastic, intelligent, caring, almost against his will. He is the embodiment of good, and the embodiment of evil, and somehow he is convinced that he can fade into the shadows in his rumpled sweaters and faded jeans and unforgettable smile...silly, Beloved, Immortal, Man.

BBGL MEMBER: Jo Ann
SUBMISSION: "I'm easily amused!" Methos to Joe, Indiscretions

BBGL MEMBER: Jennifer Strobak
SUBMISSION: There is no one defining moment in Highlander that I can look to and make a statement concerning Methos. And that is because Methos is not just a moment, he is a century of moments and a century of lifetimes. It is how he tries so hard to act like he doesn't care, but we all know he does. He has lived alone for so long, probably his entire life, and he finds it very hard at times to accept what everybody else takes advantage of, simple human compassion and kindness. That speaks so much about him, it makes him more human. His love for life is apparent in the fact that he has lived for 5000 years. No matter what he goes through or what he faces, he has survived. I truely admire that about the man, the myth, and the legend.

BBGL MEMBER: Dawn Carpenter
SUBMISSION: This is a quote that I feel describes Methos: "People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within." ---Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

BBGL MEMBER: Kay Whidden
SUBMISSION: Because the alterntive is unthinkable.

BBGL MEMBER: Darkchylde
SUBMISSION: "Mi casa es su casa." -Methos
I think that Methos is friendly toward anyone. He didn't even know Duncan, and yet he trusted him. Of course, Duncan didn't know Adam Peirson was Methos either. I think the fact that Methos is friendly and nice to people makes him a man. He's quiet, but at the same time he'll help out a friend in need and never lets anyone down. You don't find many people, or guys quite like him.

BBGL MEMBER: jam-wired
SUBMISSION: Methos *is* the man! Need you ask why? Look at his body! Listen to his great quotes (I do every day!) Is that what you want to hear? Methos is all I know? Is that what you want to hear? I obsess, but I don't just obsess for a minute, I don't obsess for an hour, I obsess for a day, I obsess *every* day! And I'm good at it! And it isn't for money, it isn't for publicity. I do it because I like him. Methos is everything, his body is everything. Do you know who I am? I'm an obsessive person. Hahahaha, obsessive, obsessive of Methos 'til I die. When Duncan warns Methos that an obsessive fan will get him, that fan is me. He is the thought that keeps me from sleeping at night. Is that what you want to hear? The answer is yes, oh yes!

BBGL MEMBER: Ricecake
SUBMISSION: "Talk about the blind leading the visually challenged." I like this quote because it shows that Methos can be cynical as well as have a good sense of humor, and I think that this is important because he is rather cynical in his nature, but he isn't totally jaded.

BBGL MEMBER: Emily
SUBMISSION: "If you don't like English, I can be anything you want." That's from when he's hitting on that lady who later died of cancer.

BBGL MEMBER: Michele
SUBMISSION: The episode was Methusula's Gift ... my favorite Methos quote ever was at the very end of that episode when he was about to leave to return to the hospital in Switzerland...... Duncan said something about loving her (Methos' girlfriend who was dying....) And Methos responded: "As much as I can for as long as she lives....." LOVED THAT LINE.......

BBGL MEMBER: Love Travels
SUBMISSION: She is me, I am her, and we are all together...

BBGL MEMBER: Rose
SUBMISSION: Methos the man? He's sexy, intelligent, sharp as a knife. The smile is utterly disarming. The sense of humor, charming.

BBGL MEMBER: Traka
SUBMISSION: *drool* ;-}

BBGL MEMBER: Kae Saemus
SUBMISSION: There are many myths and there are many legends but to become one or the other you must first be a man who makes an impression. And shall we say or do we have to our BBG really does make an impression. I am sure that as time passes we will remember the man as both a myth and a legend, but first and foremost a man!

BBGL MEMBER: Bunny Bennett
SUBMISSION: Methos is all man. It is his vulnerability that makes him such an appealing immortal. You want to protect him from the world.

BBGL MEMBER: Celtic Neala
SUBMISSION: The man himself has, well ( LOL) has made us all happy. He is funny wise and well, absolutely cute!!

BBGL MEMBER: Jen
SUBMISSION: "We're none of us perfect."-FUOT When Methos says that to Mac, he's not just trying to get him to walk away from fighting Keene, he's explaining his actions from thousands of years ago. He tried to help Mac even after Mac found out about him being in the Horsemen and the fight that resulted between the Horsemen, Mac, and Cassandra. Mac saved his life and he wanted to save his.

BBGL MEMBER: Leoni
SUBMISSION: From "Comes a Horseman" when Methos says to MacLeod "No, it's not enough." This shows he is willing to lay the truth on the line even though he could lose his friendship. He is a man who does not do things by half and will not live with just half truths around those he cares about.

BBGL MEMBER: Quink MacFru
SUBMISSION: I think two moments in Highlander that really show this are in 'the Valkarie' and 'the Messenger' The first is at the end of the episode when Duncan is messing with another one of his moral problems, whether he should have killed Ingrid or not, and Methos chooses to say just enough to make Duncan think. When Duncan asks for more about issues he should be figuring out for himself, Methos replies with a shrug and a "you hungry?". In 'The Messenger" (at least I think that's the episode) Duncan, Joe and Methos are in the bar discussing a problem. Duncan and Joe leave in hurry as they try to solve it, while Methos sits there pondering and finally says.... "I think I'll buy some socks" God, I love that man! It's only later in the episode that he makes one of those seemingly offhanded comments that forces MacLeod to see what he should have seen all along. But I think what I love most about Methos is that even with his 5000 years of wisdom, he's still a normal, beer drinking guy. "got any words of wisdom for me?" "Nope."

BBGL MEMBER: Deb Brown
SUBMISSION: "I am Methos. You live to serve me. Never forget that."

BBGL MEMBER: Ariana Alexandrova
SUBMISSION: Those blue boxers - in more than one show and more than one series (2HL eps & Noha's Ark)... Those eyes like golden sunshine spilling through spring leaves...

BBGL MEMBER: Maia
SUBMISSION: His compassion and love for humanity far outshines and offishness he exhibits. He has the capacity to be the world's greatest lover, not just in bed, but in a woman's heart and soul.

BBGL MEMBER: Tempest
SUBMISSION: First of all, he said so himself, "I'm just a guy". Also, he knows he can die. He knows that other people can die. He doesn't want to die, "You're not listening to me. I don't WANT a tombstone." He loves life and simple things, like beer and music. He's experienced nearly everything life has to offer from love to yak butter, and he loves it all. He doesn't like getting too close to people sometimes, but he knows, deep down inside, that it's worth it. That's why he stayed with Alexa despite the fact that she was dying. That's who he is.

BBGL MEMBER: Sorcha Dee
SUBMISSION: In the episode "Revelations 6:8", Methos has just taken the head of his brother-in-arms, Silas. On his knees and sobbing, he screams, "I killed Silas! I *liked* Silas!" This shows that he is capable of remorse, guilt, sorrow, and all the other emotions that make him a *man*.

BBGL MEMBER: Cinnamon
SUBMISSION: Methos the Man: The reason I chose this catagory is because Methos the Myth, and Methos the Legend is covered by the whole: Methos the Man. Methos is a man whom has made history what it is and seen history being made. This is what makes him a myth and a legend. His wisdom is something that has developed as he lived through the ages and eras. Seen many eras come and go, and still continues to grow along with them, maturing more and more as the ages come along. Duncan once said that "A wise man learns from his mistakes and a fool never does..." Methos has learn from his own mistakes as well as others, and this is what makes him wise. Yet, Methos knows that "to err is to be human, and to be human is divine," and this is what makes him a man. As he told Joe, "he is just a guy..." And this is why we relate to him.

BBGL MEMBER: Scarlet
SUBMISSION: Window of my Heart
There is this window inside my heart that you enter through, It opens easily and lets you inside to fill me with warmth and love. As the winds of change blow through it and we are torn apart it fills me with a deep sadness and aching at the thought that I have lost you and know not what to do to get you back. I close my eyes and still feel you with me. Our love protecting and watching over me. As you go through your battles take you from the love and warmth of my arms. Although the wind howls and the lightning and thunder strikes I leave that window to my heart open knowing that one day you will enter it again, because you know that the love that has brought you to me is just through that open window in my heart.....

BBGL MEMBER: Nicole
SUBMISSION: The fact that he can put up with MacLeod's goodie-two-shoe-ness (yep, that sounds right. :p

BBGL MEMBER: redwing
SUBMISSION: "Someone had to." Chivalry. I like a man who can show the boyscout how it's done.

BBGL MEMBER: Silver Moon
SUBMISSION: He doesn't judge or condemn people like Macleod does. Byron had an odd life style, & although he may not care for some of what he was doing, he was still his friend. he shows his feelings as well. Like when he killed Silas and when Alexa died. Not to mention the fact that he knew she was dying but he still loved her. Surviving is what he does best. & he has the coolest sense of humor!

BBGL MEMBER: Oshun Anat
SUBMISSION: In CaH, Methos says "I did it because I liked it. And I was good at it". This is one of the biggest shows of his brutal honesty. He may regret what he had done, but that doesn't change the fact that he did it. He may not like to face the past, but will do so, and not lie to any one, not his friends or himself about it.

BBGL MEMBER: Tiffany Baer
SUBMISSION: I think the greatest irony concerning Methos is that the Watchers have got it backwards concerning him--they think that Methos is a myth and that Adam Pierson is a man, but in reality, it's the other way around. Isn't it ironic, don't you think?

BBGL MEMBER: Cassie
SUBMISSION: "You think it takes courage to do what we do? Face another immortal with a sword knowing only one of you will live. You try being her! You try living one year knowing that your time is running out. That no matter how much you train, no matter how many tricks you have. You still lose!" So many things are obvoius from these statements, but most obvious is that he has great admiration for mortals and I think he himself is a little afraid to die. Wouldn't you be if you had been alive for 5000 years and had never really faced the possibility of your death!

BBGL MEMBER: Dre Smith
SUBMISSION: In the episodes I got to see when I wasn't working, the thing that proved most to me that Methos was a man was his relationship to Alexa. He is 5000 years old, for Goodness sake, and he still seemed like a teenager in love, yet there was still some experience. Methos could probably get any woman he wants (save a few), and yet he still feels this need to be in a relationship. And besides, it takes a true MAN to say something like "Because the Alternative is Unthinkable."

BBGL MEMBER: Ardienne of the Sidhe
SUBMISSION: "I am Methos. You live to serve me. Never forget that!"
How can any woman with blood in her veins resist? It's the ultimate domination challenge. I never could resist a challenge! Can I tame this magnificent animal? Do I want to tame him? What wild delights await me in his bed? What can I teach him of the soft, gentle, lingering side of love and passion? He's a nightmare and a dream come true. My ultimate demon lover! Mythical, legendary lover and fighter. "I'm just a guy." He's trying so hard to be just that. He knows he's not, but, by the Gods, he would like to be, even if only for a while. The remark is a double edged sword. Methos is the ultimate subtle cynic. This remark could be a jibe at himself. I think in part it is, and he mentally answered: 'Yeah, sure.' Then the part of him that craves mortal normalcy justifies making the remark by thinking,'Hey, I've been a guy for over 5000 years! Who can be more 'Just a guy' than me! You are 'just a guy' darling. The be all and end all.

BBGL MEMBER: Kris
SUBMISSION: "Maybe I'll go buy some socks." Even a 5000 yr old man understands the importance of proper foot hygeine! :-)

BBGL MEMBER: Thistle
SUBMISSION: What is a man if he is not the enbodiement of honor, strength, and courage? (and this is not limited to the literal senses)

BBGL MEMBER: Morrighan
SUBMISSION: Joe to Methos, in The Messenger after he hoodwinked Mac into going after Richie yet again:) "You are one conniving son of a bitch!" Ain't it the truth! This man has brains! When Methos smiles you hit the floor, not just because he's amazing to look at, but because you can literally see the wheels move! Somebody once said to me, "Well Duncan's the better fighter so he would win the prize." Wanna bet? Don't get me wrong I love the Big Lug myself, but Methos would win. Not because he was faster, or bigger or stronger, but because he IS a survivor and he knows how to manipulate people in a way that is almost frightening to contemplate. There's a reason this guy is the most fascinating character in Highlander history! And, it's not just those beautiful boxers, Goddess love em! I have never been so captivated by anyone. Even when I hated Methos, (Rev 6.8, CAH) I still couldn't help but love him. I wanted to scream at what he had done to Cassandra, at what he had once been, but when he cried I just had to let lose and bawl! Sheena Easton did a song that always makes me think of him. Some lyrics go like this.

"This man's is old. This man's a child.
Sometimes he's bold, sometimes he's mild.
Sometimes a tramp, sometimes a dude.
He is a song that's not easy to write,
He is the moon in the morning, and the sun out at night.
But when he shines, he shines so bright!"

Sure sounds like Methos to me. And it's why I fell in love with a ROG! Nuff said!

BBGL MEMBER: KitSileya
SUBMISSION: "Does the words compulsive-obsessive mean anything to you?"

BBGL MEMBER: Sandra Storm
SUBMISSION: I just love to be part of Methos, I am nuts about the guy, okay.

BBGL MEMBER: Brighid40
SUBMISSION: There are so many reasons to list here, not the least of which is that the man has a bod that simply does not quit . . . but aside from that lovely distraction, what drew me to Methos from the first is his utter humanness. He is cynical, naive, proud, humble, devious, innocent, wise, foolish, wicked, noble . . . and most of all, vulnerable. Oh, so vulnerable. I love that about him, and the fact that he tries so desperately to hide it behind a wall of indifference and coolness to protect himself, knowing full well it doesn't work but having to try anyway out of self-preservation. His scene with Amanda in "Methuselah's Gift" breaks my heart. When he drops his arm and sobs aloud, goddess mother, how can you not want to go to him and give him the compassion and healing love he needs? Five thousand years of living, and he can still weep warm salt tears for a mortal woman. Now THAT'S a real man! Aware of his faults, devastatingly honest, ruthlessly compassionate. *sigh*!

BBGL MEMBER: Shaelyn
SUBMISSION: "You think it takes courage to do what we do? Face an other immortal with a sword knowing only one of you will live? YOU TRY BEING HER!!!" I think that says it all. Methos lets so many things slide over him, as if nothing touches him, but for one of his friends - what few he has - he will do whatever it takes to keep them safe, or healthy. Completely ruthless when he needs to be, and never entirely certain he’s welcome even among friends. Ask me to describe a sunrise, or the first morning breeze, or... I don’t know, sunspots. I could do that more easily.

BBGL MEMBER: Jill
SUBMISSION: "I am a man who died long before the age of chivarly"; "You live and die by a code of honor that was trendy when you were a kid" He is a man who is funny but intense. What more can a woman ask for?

BBGL MEMBER: MethosChick
SUBMISSION: He's very weak willed when it comes to female shaped temptation. (Sleeping with Charlotte, Cassandra.) This is a trait found in almost every member of the male gender.

BBGL MEMBER: Bryn O'Reilly
SUBMISSION: Joe and Methos are talking and Methos says: "What did you expct Joe. Einstein, Freud, Buddah?" Joe replies: "Forget it." Then Methos says: "Sorry Joe, I'm just a guy!"

BBGL MEMBER: Kathleen Whang
SUBMISSION: "What do you expect? Einstein? Freud? ... Buddha? Sorry Joe, I'm just a guy." This is what I love about Methos. Because, though he has the wisdom and strength from 5000 years...he is a man. And a gorgeous, irresistible one at that.

BBGL MEMBER: Nydiafey
SUBMISSION: Methos embodies the ultimate existential questions: who am I and why am I here? He's a Watcher whose assignment is himself. How does one document one's own existence without being either too ego driven or too self-effacing?

BBGL MEMBER: Highlander II
SUBMISSION: He's been around for 5000 years, and yet, even after Joe's explanation of the game, Methos still did not understand baseball.

BBGL MEMBER: Nelle
SUBMISSION: He has survived for 5000 years and has managed to keep his sanity and biting wit. He has seen the best and worst that society has had to offer and still wants to hang around. Love BBG: Because of his, 1)intelligence, 2)wit, 3)voice, and of course, 4)his looks.

BBGL MEMBER: Alexa Bond
SUBMISSION: "You can spend whatever time you have left dying, or you can spend it living...with me." Well, you know what I chose.
