All About Indonesia

Republik Indonesia

Republik Indonesia (The Republic of Indonesia) is the largest country in South-East Asia. It covers a vast number of islands - about 13,700 in total - making Indonesia the largest archipelago in the world.

Around half of the islands in Indonesia are populated (many are extremely small), and the total population is around 201,477,000. Indonesia has one of the most culturally diverse populations in the world.

Most of the world's major religions are represented in great number in Indonesia - everything from Bhuddism and Hinduism to Christianity - although around 87% of the population are Muslims.

There are also a vast number of languages in the country. Although the official language is Bahasa Indonesian, there are some areas where two households on opposite sides of the street will not be able to understand each other. Sundanese, Javanese and Madurese are some of the more common languages spoken in Indonesia. Aside from the country's native language, Dutch and English are also present.

Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia. Located on the island of Java, Jakarta is a modern and highly developed city with a large population.

Other large cities in Indonesia include Bandung and Bogor, both of which are also on Java. They are both every bit as modern and developed as London or New York.

The currency of Indonesia is the Rupiah, but several foreign currencies, most noteably the US Dollar and English Pounds, are accepted directly in a lot of places.

As for the local cuisine, well, perhaps you should read this page if you want to know about Indonesian cooking.

There will be an update to this information very soon, and much more will be added. In the meantime, why not look around the rest of this webpage?
