My story begins at my house, when I was watching TRL. I saw the dates of the tour, and I saw that the Backstreet Boys were coming to Detroit. I was so excited! I didn't know what the venue was, but eventually, I found out that they were coming to The Palace of Auburn Hills. Me and my friend, who I call "Friend A" for her right to be kept anonymous wanted to get tickets.
Anyway, she's a BSB fan to, so I decided to go with her. Now, all we needed was the tickets. I found the phone number for the ticketmaster in Detroit, so I gave it to her. I was going up north with my family to help my grandma, so I was also going to try, but my mom wouldn't let me. I was very upset!
The day that the tickets went on sale, "Friend A" said that she kept calling, but the line was always busy. She said she kept hitting "redial" for two hours. She finally gave up, so she asked her dad to drive her to a nearby city that sold tickets. That city is about 30 minutes away. Once they got there, the lady at the desk said that she didn't know anything about a Backstreet Boys concert, and could sell any tickets. When I called her to ask how she had done, she told me and I just about cried. My sister says that I'm totally obsessed with BSB and Brian Littrell, which I admit to!
About two or three months passed, and all my emailing friends emailed me and told me how they were so excited because they got like front row seats or something. I kept feeling bad! All of a sudden, I got this phone call from my other friend's mother. My mom was talking to her, and I came down the stairs and my mom asked me, "Abbie, how would you like to see the Backstreet Boys?" I screamed and said, "Yes, oh my gosh!" and all of this other jibberish! I went upstairs to the computer, where my sister was and said, "Holly, guess what? I'm gonna see Brian!!" and she said, "No way!" And I said that I wasn't kidding. I ran back downstairs and my mom told me that my friend's parents had gotten tickets to the Backstreet Boys concert and they were going to take her, her brother and a friend as a surprise. I was her good friend so her parents called us.
The plan was, my friend "friend B" and her brother thought that we were going to go shopping at this really huge mall. We drove there and it took about an hour and a half. We went to dinner at this place called "Big Buck" and we saw a bunch of other Backstreet Boys fans there too. I was getting nervous because I didn't know if this was a trick or not. Once we got done with our dinner, we went back to the car and her dad gave her a card and he said, "This is an early birthday present from your mother and me." She opened the card and in it were four tickets to the Backstreet Boys. She's like, "Oh my gosh," and I could feel chills running down my neck because it was about an hour until the concert. We went to the Palace and got a really good parking spot. The place only holds about 4,000 people, so there was only like one parking lot. We got out of the car and started walking. We saw about five HUGE tour buses. "Friend B"'s dad said these things cost about half a million dollars! I was like, "Woh!"
When we got into the Palace, I didn't know where our seats were, then I looked at the ticket, and it said row P. I thought we were on the floor, but we were actually in the seats. They were pretty good too!
Since we got there later than some people, we only had to wait about 20 minutes. Whenever one or two lights would dim, everybody would scream. I looked through my binoculars into the dressing room and I thought I saw the Backstreet Boys, but it was actually the first two acts.
The first act of the concert was Mandy Moore. She's a pretty good singer for a 15 year old girl. I heard that she dated Nick Carter, but some people say she didn't. Mandy sang two songs from her album, "So Real". One song was "Candy" and then there was one other one. She had about 5 dancers, and was wearing BROWN leather pants. Brown? I don't understand the logic in brown. When I looked at her through the binoculars, she looked like the singer "Robyn". She looked nothing like she did on MTV!
The next act was "EYC". This stands for "Express Yourself Carefully". I had heard of them, but never really took the time to look at them in magazines. There are 3 singers to EYC. One guy was kinda hot, but he liked to take his shirt off too much. One guy was black, but wasn't hot, either was the other guy. I didn't like that they always took off their shirts, because that tells me that the only way they can get the crowd going is by showing some skin. My friend didn't like them, neither did her brother and father.
The next act, of course was the Backstreet Boys. We had to wait about 30 minutes for them to come on. First, they played the Sears commercial when the fans are chasing BSB, and then on the big screen, just showed a picture of them that said "Into The Millennium Tour". Finally they came out. Everybody was screaming! It was awesome! They came out of this big black box type thing by the dressing room and were hooked onto skateboards and flew over to the pentagon stage singing "Larger Than Life". After that, each boy introduced himself. Unfortunatly, Brian, who I adore, kept standing kiddy-corner to where we were sitting. Nick was always on our side.
When Kevin came out, he introduced himself and told everyone that he had injured his arm in a snowboarding accident in Colorado. That made me sad because then he couldn't do the "As Long As You Love Me" chair routine. That's so neat! There were constant costume changes, and the boys had this trap door on the side of the stage that they went into.
BSB sang "Don't Want You Back", "The One" "Quit Playin' Games", "It's Gotta Be You", and when they sang "The Perfect Fan" written by the beautiful and talented Brian Littrell, they had 5 pairs of mothers and daughters come up on the stage. Luckily, Brian had like an 8 year old girl, so he couldn't be tempted to get another girlfriend besides me!
When Backstreet Boys sang "Quit Playin' Games", Nick and A.J. were sitting on the side of the stage, and Nick said, "Hey, A.J., what's going on?" They were being strapped to a harnesses, and got to fly around the Palace. It was so cool. Another one of my friends was at the exact same concert, and they yelled, "Nick!" and he looked down at them, and got a picture!
One of the funniest things that happened was that these girls behind "Friend B"'s brother kept kicking his seat. He had this pen that pulled out and looked like a pointer, and he jabbed it into one girl's foot. She never kicked him again. Then another girl did it too. He jabbed the pen in her foot too. It was so hilarious!
When the concert was nearing the end, it seemed like they were going to say goodbye, and they sang "I Want It That Way". But they only sang about half of the song. Then the boys were introducing the band, and after that, finished "I Want It That Way". Confetty came flying down and they had fireworks and everything. It was great!!
As always after a great and LOUD concert, my ears were ringing, and I couldn't tell if the hallways were loud. I wanted some kind of a momentos from the concert, and I bought a tee-shirt. I wanted to buy a poster and a mini-poster of Brian, but "Friend B"'s dad wanted to get out of the place.
This was the best day of my life! Next year, I'm determined to get floor seats, or even better, front row seats! I'm gonna spend the night at a ticket booth! I love BSB sooooo much! In the years to come, I'm definitly looking forward to BSB concerts that will be much improved!!
