"Open Wide the Doors to Christ"

The Cajun Connection's Jubilee Door

On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1999, Pope John Paul II opened the great Holy Year Door in Saint Peter's Basilica.
The door will remain open throughout the Great Jubilee of the Year, 2000. The blessing for a door at home as been prepared so that families might designate a door as their Jubilee door. The Jubilee seal could be affixed to the door, or nearby window. After the blessing, the seal could remind all who enter and leave the  home of Christ, the door to the Kingdom of God.

The blessing for a church door has been prepared to assist parishes
or dioceses in preparing in a similar manner
for the great Jubilee year.

Blessing of a Jubilee Door at Home
Gathering before the Jubilee door, the father or mother prays:
Sign of the Cross - -

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
.
Reading - - Jn 10: 7-10, Lk 4:18-19, or Lev. 25: 8-12

John 10:7-10
He therefore said:
"My solemn word is this: I am the sheepgate.
All who came before me were thieves and marauders whom the sheep did not heed."
"I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be safe.
He will go in and out, and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy.
I came that they might have life and have it to the full."

Luke 4:18-19

"The spirit of the Lord is upon me; therefore he has anointed me,
He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives,
Recovery of sight to the blind and release to prisoners,
To announce a year of favor from the Lord."

Lev 25:8-12
"Seven weeks of years shall you count--seven times seven years--
so that the seven cycles amount to forty-nine years.
Then, on the tenth day of the seventh month let the trumpet resounds;
on this, the Day of Atonement,
the trumpet blast shall re-echo throughout your land.
This fiftieth year you shall make sacred by proclaiming liberty in the land forall its inhabitants.
It shall be a jubilee for you, when every one of you shall return to his own property,
every one to his own family estate.
In this fiftieth year, your year of jubilee, you shall not sow, nor shall you reap the aftergrowth
or pick the grapes from the untrimmed vines.
Since this is the jubilee, which shall be sacred for you,
you may not eat of its produce, except as taken directly from the field."

Blessing --

Blessed are you, O Lord our god,
for you guide our footsteps.
You bless our coming in and our going out,
from birth to death, you hold us in your care.

Bless this door, O Lord,
which we consecrate to this time of preparation.
Each day we pass this place,
draw us more deeply into your presence
and the wonders of your love for us.

You are the door to the Kingdom of God,
the sheep gate to life eternal,
O portal of eternal peace, our new and living way,
lose our sins and open for us the door of salvation.

O God, protect our going out and our doming in;
let us share the hospitality of this home with all who visit us.
May the poor find rest within these walls
and all who hunger find refreshment in our home.

Lead us home through you, to you, and with you,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen
