14th Suzuki World Convention, Turin Italy The Suzuki World Convention is being held this year in Turin, the home of the 2006 Winter Olympics. There are over 2500 students and teachers attending from all over the world, including over 60 Australians. Two families from this studio are traveling to Italy as I write this, and I am looking forward to meeting up with them in Torino and taking part in the Convention myself.

Suzuki Audition Day This year's audition day is to be held at Ravenswood school on May 7. Auditions are held annually for various Suzuki events. These include soloists at the Workshop concerts in May and September, Gala Concert soloists and group items, and this year auditions are also being held for a Shanghai student exchange (Easter holidays 2007)and for a scholarship sponsored by the Harold Brissenden memorial fund to attend the 2006 Summer School in Matsumoto, Japan. Students who have applied to audition will receive their audition time soon. Auditions will be held between 9am and 12noon.

May Workshop 28 May. Applications close 5 May (before our first lessons of the term) so please get in touch with me by email if you wish to attend. All families are encouraged to attend Suzuki events such as Workshops, as the students gain a great deal of motivation from working with other teachers and meeting new friends.

Suzuki Grand Concert This exciting event is to be held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Check the Suzuki Newsletter for the date - I will publish it here when I return from Italy! This is an opportunity for all Suzuki students to take part in a very special concert, timed to coincide with the International Suzuki Association meeting to be held in Sydney in October/November. Please note that there is no extra Graduation concert at the Opera House this year - so students who are graduating will be performing at the Entertainment Centre. Non-graduates will also be taking part in the concert. Please check with me at the next lesson for more details.

Sydney Omega Ensemble My brand new ensemble has launched its premiere season this year. We have had four very successful concerts, held in both the Paddington Uniting Church and at the Conservatorium. It was great to see some of you there, and I hope to see you all at one of our concerts later in the year. Please check out our website for details and bookings.

News from Melbourne Matt and I have settled in to our new home in Watsonia. It's about 40 mins on the train from the centre of Melbourne, but we're very close to Matt's work, which makes life a lot easier for him. He is studying and working hard, spending lots of hours on assignments, preparing presentations, studying conducting and learning all manner of instruments (at last count he has 'mastered' the Euphonium, Trombone and French Horn!).
