Mozart spent the better part of his first 20 years touring. Played for the royalty in Germany, France, England and Italy. Mozart's experiences from these countries was absorbed in his music and in doing so, has composed many brillant masterworks. Mozart would often carry on a conversation while writing out his music, making composition seem effortless. In fact, he once wrote that "I continue to compose because that fatigues me less than resting".
Mozart was often broke, and a frequent borrower, despite his many performances and compositions. Mozart dies on December 5, 1791, in Vienna following a protracted illness (probably a chronic kidney disease that brought on uremia, but Mozart suspected he had been poisioned). Though his opera, The Magic Flute was wildly successful at the time, Mozart himself was penniless, and his body was buried in an unmarked grave.
In the 35 years of his life, Mozart composed more than 600 pieces. He revolutionized opera and wrote 41 symphonies. He composed 27 piano concertos and was the first composer to place the piano on a equal footing with the orchestra. Yet, despite his vast knowledge and skill, Mozart remains one of the most accessible of all European composers, an artise whose music can be appreciated by small children and studied musicians alike.
