REUNION DINNER

(12 FEBRUARY 1998, ORIENTAL HOTEL)

Months of preparation preceded the Reunion dinner on 12 February 98 at the Oriental Hotel.  Seeing the 100 or  so ex-SYO  members must have been very rewarding for the committee members who had worked hard to  contact former players, arrange the  venue, and prepare the  programmes.

Former  SYO members, who now  pursue a wide range of  careers (SSO musicians, lawyers, doctors, IT experts, teachers, sales, company directors, etc)  created a din while exchanging  news with all their friends, and chatting with Miss  Goh, Mr Tan  and Mr Ng.

Members viewed a display of ˇ§artifacts, programmes, posters,  tour T-shirts and newspaper  articles  on  the orchestra.  E-mails  from members living overseas were also displayed.

The buffet dinner was punctuated by speeches by Mr Tan and Mr Ng, who in reminiscing gave lively details of how they had to put up with the idiosyncrasies of the conductor!

Recordings of SYO concerts were played and members participated in a lively quiz, during which they had to identify persons in slides capturing SYO activities from 1980-1990.  Members also had  to identify  music played during this period,  especially  the commissioned works.
