Dr. Craig R. Miller

Craig R. Miller completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree  in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Missouri at Kansas City Conservatory of Music.  He is currently the Director of Bands at  Blue Valley West High School in Overland Park, Kansas.  In the fall of 2000, Dr. Miller accepted a one year teaching assignment at Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park, Kansas. In the academic years, 1998-1999 & 1999-2000, Dr. Miller was a.Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory of Music.  From 1993 to 1998, Dr. Miller was Associate Director of Bands at Hickman High School in Columbia, Missouri. At Hickman he was the director of jazz ensembles, marching band, and taught three levels of music theory classes. He shared responsibilities of three concert bands with John G. Patterson, Coordinator of Fines Arts for the Columbia Public Schools. Prior to his appointment at Hickman High School, he received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas at Austin and Master of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Dr. Miller was Assistant Band Director at McCallum High School in Austin, Texas from 1985-1988. From 1988-1990 he served as Instructor of Brass Techniques, Director of the Young Winds of Indiana Project, and Assistant Instructor of Bands at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Dr. Miller returned to Austin, Texas in 1991 to begin doctoral work in wind band conducting with Professor Jerry Junkin at the University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Miller was the Director of Winds and Percussion at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, Texas from 1991-1993 where he received the national winner of the Classical Instrumental Symphonic Band category in the 1993 "Down Beat" magazine music awards. Dr. Miller has been an adjudicator at the district, region, and state levels for marching and concert bands in Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. He is  a conducting student of Professor Gary Hill , Director of Bands at Arizona State University. He has also studied trumpet with Keith Benjamin, Ray Crisara, Allen Dean, Charles Gorham, Alex Pickard and Betty Scott.
