.
"Belshazzar's Feast was written for the LFC and we performed this lively and entertaining work most recently in November 1998. In addition to rehearsals, some of the chorus have been getting into the spirit of the piece by having their own mini-feast. This was not televised, but certain sections of the choir were seen in new and unusual roles (princes, concubines, eunuchs etc...!)" |
||
Saturday July 17th |
Berlioz 'Grande Messe de Mortes'.
City of York Guildhall Orchestra with Simon Wright. LFC, Halle Choir and Sheffield Philharmonic Choir. Peter Auty, tenor. Concert at York Minster, part of the Ryedale Festival. "LFC sang this at the opening concert of the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. It demands a big orchestra, huge chorus and 4 off-stage brass bands. Don't miss it! Just when you think the awesome massed timpanis and the 'wall of brass' sound can't get any bigger the basses thunder in with 'Tuba mirum spargens sonum...'(the trumpet shall sound). This mass may raise the roof off the Cathedral!" |
