A familiar landmark on Highway 54 in Conlen, Texas.

When I was a child, the family would take trips to the midwest.
I recall the leaning tower. No Intersate, no cross.

The largest radio telescope in the world.
Located west of Magdelana, New Mexico on Highway 60,
this is where many scenes from the movie CONTACT with Jodie Foster were filmed.
Elevation 7,000 ft.


The maintenence hangar as a radio telescope is being moved for repair.

Eisenhower Tunnel.
Interstate 70 east bound. Elevation 11,400 ft.
Through this tunnel begins the descent into Denver, Colorado.

On Interstate 44 Oklahoma, west bound.

I missed the beltway loop around Washington D.C.
and wound up on the detour for big trucks.
Through the White House back yard!

Highway 95 in Nevada,
travels along the west side of the Nevada test range and Area 51.

Little America Truck Stop
on Interstate 80 in Wyoming.

St. Louis, Missouri.
Interstate 55 west bound, crossing the Mississippi River.

General Patton Museum
located off Interstate 10, Chiriaco Summit exit in California.
Established by Major General George S. Patton in 1942,
was the largest military training ground known to exist.
Over one million men were trained at eleven sub-camps
covering an area of 18,000 square miles. My dad trained about 40 miles east.

West of Fort Worth, off Interstate 20. Thurber, Texas.
One of the first cities in Texas to be totally electrified.
One of the few towns in the country to be totally unionized.
A major manufacturer of paving bricks, and located near one of Texas first oil fields.
It was the largest town between Fort Worth and El Paso.
It's population was 10,000. Every home had gas and city water. By the 1930's it was gone.
All that can be seen from Interstate 20 is this smokestack and the restaruant.

and their ability to cope with the Indians, marched with his regiment alone.
Of those brave men who followed Custer, all perished.
