Service is a fundamental part of OA. We are a brotherhood of CHEERFUL SERVICE. While we play and enjoy the sun, we also work and cheerfully give of ourselves. Through many endeavors we give to the lodge, the council, and the community. First the lodge. White Eagle gives back to the lodge through our camping promotions and also through our assistance at lodge functions. An example of this is our cleaning up of camp after the lodge has used it. Second, White Eagle gives back to the council. Through our volunteering to paint the council service center, scout shop and to keep weeds down, we have given back to the council. We also assist them at their numerous functions, such as Scout Show and Camperees. Finally, White eagle gives back to the community. Some of the things that we do is keep trash picked up, volunteer at a shelters, join in community pride days, etc. The Order is of the spirit, as is service, we should give ourselves whenever possible to assist others or to help out the community in general.

Service and the Order and the Arrow

'In this great and honored order, into which can be admitted only those who unselfishly desire to serve others, there must be a lofty purpose.'"[sic]

"Keeping the Ordeal Alive: Do you hope to serve your community? Can you make a contribution such as that made by Uncas and Chingachgook? Yet the challenges are there for farsighted leaders to find and attack. Will you play the role of Chingachgook who first saw the problem and sounded the alarm? Or of Uncas who cheerfully offered his services when others would not? Or will you hide in the nameless crowd?

Dedicated people continue to make admirable contributions too humanity through lifetimes of cheerful, self-sacrificing service. Mohandas Ghandi led the nonviolent movement for freedom of the Indian subcontinent. Albert Schweitzer gave medical service in Africa. Deitrich Bonhoffer preached and acted against Hitler within Nazi Germany. Martin Luther King Jr. led the American civil rights movement. Each led a life worthy of your study. Each was controversial in his day. Each, in his own way, espoused the principles of the Order and lived the tests of the Ordeal. Who of your heroes could you add to this group? For each of the prominent people who can be named as having led a worthy life of service to others, tens of thousands, indeed millions, of others have likewise madea difference. You can be one of these. How will future generations judge your contribution?" [sic]
