Spelling Battleship

MATERIALS:

    game cards (laminated)
    2 dry erase markers
    spelling words

METHOD:

1.To Prepare Game cards: Across top of blank sheet of paper write "Battleship." Across top, put numbers 1 to 6. Down left side, put letters A-G. Draw lines to create a "grid" or boxes. Photocopy onto colored paper and laminate cards.

2.To Play: Have students use dry erase markers to write their spelling words in the empty grids or boxes. They can write in any of the boxes but only put one word per box.

    3.Player 1 says a coordinate like A4.

4.If a word is in Player 2's box at A4, then s/he says the word aloud to Player 1.

5.Player 1 must then correctly spell the word to get the "hit."

6.If there isn't a word at that location, Player 2 responds by saying "Miss" and then take his/her turn.

7.Play continues back-and-forth until one player has "hit" all the words.
