Go To Poem High Flight

My name is Darrel Walker. I live in Nashville, Ga.,
a small farming community in South Georgia. Keep
in mind I said Georgia, not Tennessee.......LOL...

If you haven't already figured it out, Aviation is my
lifelong dream, and how I make my living.

I would like for you to meet Mallory,
My Granddaughter and of course, the apple of my eye

I was born and raised, in a small town in NW Missouri,
Dec, 26, 1938. Duhhhh, now you can figure how old I
am, that is, if you are interested in my age..... *VBS*

I spent alittle over 20 years in the USAF, retiring from
there in 1976. I married my late wife while stationed at
Moody, AFB in 1960, that is how I migrated to South Ga.

I am, currently, a corporate pilot, flying the Citation I
below, for a local company. Click on picture for details.

Citation

I have two sons, a daughter in law, and one grandaughter.
Their pictures are in the "FAMILY" section. My interests
in life are, Church, Family, Flying, Computing, and Golfing,
even though I haven't had the chance to play in over three
years. Never was any good, but fun is what its all about. *S*

Here is just a few of the airplanes I have flown in the past.

A couple of explanations first !

KMH = Nautical Miles Per Hour. Multiply by 1.15 to get SMPH
SMPH = Statute Miles Per Hour. Equate this to a car speedometer
PropJet = A Jet Engine with a propeller on it, generally run thru a gearbox
FanJet = A Jet Engine with a ducted fan on it, most common on all Jets today
Reciprocating = Gas burning engine with individual cylinders bolted to a gearcase

I hope you enjoy the beautiful poem below,
which most aptly, describes the beauty of
flight.

HIGH FLIGHT

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,

I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace

Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod

The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

John Gillespie Magee, Jr.
RCAF
Killed in action 1941,
shortly after writing this poem
