The Beautiful Flowers
These pictures are of flowers I grew in my yard
Amaryllis
A-Mary-llis
Have smooth-textured lily like flowers, sometimes 8 to 10
inches across. They start blooming in the spring here in
the south. They bloom in clusters of three or four blossoms
atop 1 to 2 foot stems. We have seen 5 in one cluster.
Day Lilies
An extremely hardy and drought resistant plant.Even those
without green thumbs can raise them. They flower from early
Spring to late Summer in the south. Has 12-50 flowers per
stem with a new flower opening each day. That flower will
last from early morning to late evening. Hence DAY lily.
Roses
For sheer fragrance and beauty the rose reigns supreme.
It's cultivation spread from Persia and China, bringing
inspiration to artists, warriors and lovers in every land.
Cleopatra seduced Antony knee deep in roses, and Roman
banquets were garlanded with petals. Today Red Roses
symbolize love, White purity, Yellow friendship. This
"gift of the angels" was also popular for its gentle
healing powers.
Azalea
Azaleas bear masses of red, pink, white or multicolored
1 to 4 inch blossoms for two to four weeks in late winter
or early spring. They are plentiful in south Georgia and
very beautiful when blooming.
