I've got the best kind of job in the world! I'm a professional philosopher! I teach in the Philosophy Department at Coastal Carolina University, in Conway, South Carolina, where my wonderful wife, Gayle, and I share our home with Junie--a miniature dachshund, Beege--a doxie-hua-hua (a dachshund-chihuahua mix), and 3,500 books. I have many areas of philosophical interest. My dissertation addressed the role of instrumental reasoning in moral theory, which I think is large, and works towards developing a view I call constructivist eudaimonism. I also have strong interests in political philosophy, in evolutionary biology and what it can tell us about human (and non-human) nature, in virtue ethics, and in animal and environmental ethics. A related area of interest is the application of game theory to the causes and solutions of environmental problems. Look here for my dissertation and prospectus. You can take a look at some of my other papers here, my C.V. here, and teaching-related materials are available upon request.

And what about other stuff?

How do you keep up with what's going on in the world? Check the news.

Also, check out Problems, Difficulties, Objections – where my views are exposed to criticisms for which I'm not sure what the answer is. Send me some more!
